Premiere Watch: Jirisan, Would You Like a Cup of Coffee

They might have given us a week off of new premieres, but this weekend sees two new shows — one a huge and long-awaited title, and the other a small niche show that sounds warm and comforting. With mountain rescues, fires, and dire straits in our future, we might just come to rely on a cute boy and a healing coffee shop to keep us centered.

Jirisan

Time slot: Saturday & Sunday
Broadcaster: tvN
Genre: Mystery, thriller, crime, fantasy
Episode count: 16

Reasons to watch: It feels like we’ve been waiting for Jirisan since, well, forever. Ever since the initial announcements, Jirisan has been full of Kingdom-y meta. It’s not only written by screenwriter Kim Eun-hee (responsible for all the Kingdom scripts) but also stars Kingdom lead Joo Ji-hoon, and Kingdom side-world lead Jeon Ji-hyun as the main characters. There won’t be zombies (I think…), but from the surprisingly action-packed trailers we’ve seen, there will still be life-threatening situations all around. So either way you shake it, these two will be running for their lives — and looking good doing it. I’m a big fan of both leads (not to mention our supporting cast of greats like Sung Dong-il and Oh Jung-se), so even if the story might not feel like a go-to genre, I’m here for it.

Would You Like a Cup of Coffee

Time slot: Thursday & Sunday
Broadcaster: KakaoTV
Genre: Healing, human
Episode count: 12

Reasons to watch: This one completely flew under my radar, but they pretty much had me at “coffee” (just typing the word makes me want another cup). This little drama promises to be a sweet, healing story that takes place in a coffee shop, and the posters and stills give off exactly those vibes — warm, cozy, and charming. Add in Ong Sung-woo as a young barista-in-training who studies under a master (Park Ho-san). Then add manhwa artist Heo Young-man (of Gaksital and Tazza), who also created this story/world. And… sold!

Actually they are not formal trailers but rather 3 'behind the scenes' and one "teaser"

Legal streaming site for Jirisan: Iqiyi

It is an Iqiyi original indeed.

I noticed that it won't be released there until Oct. 28. I wonder if it's delayed release because of Iqiyi?

That seems to be a normal practice with iQIYI. Sometimes the delay is even longer- It was months before Viki had the iQIYI original BACKSTREET ROOKIE. It may be worth waiting for Viki though- often the subtitles are better (if at times slow- I am talking about you DALI AND GAMJATANG).

Iqiyi has exclusive streaming rights (simultaneously as in Korea) and Iqiyi resold it to Viki, I think.

I was pleased to see that JIRISAN a would be available also on Viki US.
(I hope this is an indicator of good things to come with iQIYI and Viki ‘sharing’ dramas if you will.)

@marcusnyc20
They have been doing it already like My Roommate is a Gumiho, Monthly Magazine House, Backstreet Rookie...
Buying exclusive rights is really expensive, I guess? So Iqiyi resells the dramas to Viki or some other sites (maybe) but there are one or two weeks delay from airdate. So Iqiyi is still the only one site that streams simultaneously as Korean TV networks.
Anyway, it's a good thing for us.

I really hope Disney won't interfere too much in the future though. (I don't really care about Jung Hae-in's Snowdrop but I heard it will be on Disney Plus... In the US too? I don't know..)

Very excited for both of these dramas. Especially Jirisan, the wait has been so long.

Jun Ji-hyun is stunning, as always. Meanwhile, what are any of the men from the Jirisan cast wearing in that photo?

Woah I just noticed that. Each man's outfit seems ok at first glance, but look a bit more closely and you'll see a sort of glitch. Even the PD's sweatshirt has asymmetric sleeves...

Loool, just noticed! I was too divided on Jeon Ji Hyun’s toned abs to notice at first. It’s Joo Ji Hoon’s hair for me...and the sleeves...*crying*

I'm checking both dramas. I've been waiting for Jirisan ever since it was announced (both leads have my love) and the more I read about Coffee the more I want to watch (plus it's only 12 episodes). With some dramas finishing this weekend and next week, I can add them both to the list!

And Would You Like a Cup of Coffee is only 30 min each episode. So it's really like 6 episodes.

I don't know what expecting from Jirisan. The teasers/trailers sent mixed messages with pure humor or pure mystery... One of the poster looked like a under water shot. I'm not a fan of JJH, in drama, she acted the same characters. But I like the fact it takes places in a National Park and the rest of the casting.

None of the promotional material for Jirisan has impressed me much, but I have to try it for the writer and cast. I'm not a big Jun Ji-hyun fan, so I hope she's toned down here.

Would You Like a Cup of Coffee flew under my radar too, but I will give it a try. I don't like coffee, but I could use a nice healing drama right now.

I'm so excited for both, especially... Would You Like a Cup of Coffee.
I like slice of life drama in general and don't know why, I just have a good feeling about it.
It's coming to Viki and I'm going to be its Japanese subber.
So I'm really excited.

Watched Jirisan and liked the first episode,is very action packed showcasting the ranger work with a time lapse between them(2018/2020) with a twist I confess didn't see it coming...Might be wrong but also gives “Signal” feels…
I case u don't know much about the show it has mistery and a killer as well(Was presented in the Highlight teaser) so it's not just finding lost hikers,u can say it has a mix...
The Jirisan view is impressive as we can actually say Jirisan is among the main cast...
