Song Kang, Han So-hee in new teaser for Nevertheless

A new video teaser has been released for JTBC’s new romance drama Nevertheless (formerly Even Though I Know), featuring its lead actors Song Kang (Navillera) and Han So-hee (A Couple’s World).

The drama is adapted from a popular webtoon by the same title, and aims to take a realistic look at dating and romance for young adults in the present day. In particular, it examines how your heart can easily get swayed by the thrills of love despite your head saying it’s a bad idea.

Taking on the role of Yoo Na-bi, Han So-hee plays a woman who has been burned by the disappointment and failings of her first love, and no longer believes in love or fate. As such, she continues to guard herself from falling head over heels, but still enjoys dating and being in a relationship.

Song Kang plays Park Jae-on, a man who finds committed relationships too cumbersome and prefers keeping things casual. He enjoys toeing the line between flirting and being friendly (all while remaining emotionally distant), and likes being categorically single.

In the newly released teaser, we see Song Kang and Han So-hee encountering each other on a tennis court. As flower petals fall from the spring sky, the two walk slowly towards each other. Han looks at Song with a shy and hopeful smile, and Song grins widely at her in return. In a split screen of both their faces, the text introduces the actors’ names: Han So-hee and Song Kang. In voice-over, the two actors explain: “JTBC’s Saturday special drama Nevertheless premieres its first episode on Saturday, June 19 at 11pm.”

Written by Jung Won and directed by PD Kim Ga-ram (Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency), JTBC drama Nevertheless has been planned to have 10 episodes and will be airing once a week on Saturdays starting June 19.

This synopsis reminds me of Oh! Master. Something about a man and a woman who can't love 🙂

Let’s not jinx this before it even comes out.

OH MASTER was overcomplicated with all the supernatural stuff, which spoiled what could have been a good story. So if it sounds like OH MASTER then the proper response is not to cringe but rather to hope that this writer will do it right. So I am going to feel hopeful- particularly because the so recent and obvious failure of OH MASTER provides everyone with such a good example of what not to do.

And if it is done right then I will have to feel even more sorry for Nana and LMK for having had their talents so wasted.

2021 was the Song Kang year?! I am excited for SK's next TV project after Netflix and TvN... here it comes with his first JTBC project and I want to improve better ratings like Navillera did.

Song Kang tends to pick shorter dramas, huh?

Might make some sense for an actor early in his career. With short dramas, you can get your name out there quickly (presumably, can pick up more dramas in a year), show that you can do a variety of roles, and you can potentially increase the chance of cancelling out bad projects with good projects.

Idk about the plot but that teaser was beyond pretty. Plus, I’m always down for more university-set dramas as opposed to high schools.

Indeed, even more when there aren't many of them unlike highscool ones...Like korean writers truly lack creativity plot wise and avoid them...

Agreed, I'd like to see more romance dramas set in universities. University romances can provide a nice balance of youthful innocence and as well as adult maturity (rather than lopsided in one direction or the other).

I read a little of the webtoon yesterday, and I have to say this is looking really good. The casting is spot on! I can't help but wonder whether they'll change the ending, but either way it's going to be interesting to see how audiences respond to this one.

Look up the previous post on this drama. Someone gave a detailed synopsis and spoiler about the webtoon and I was'nt interested in this drama until I read that. Now I want to watch the train wreck if it really is like that.

Thanks for the heads up. I had a look and now I've lost interest. That plot makes Oh My Landlord look tame. What are the chances they'll keep the suregi male lead in this and the unhappy ending?

In any case, I'm ambivalent about Song Kang or Han So-hee anyway, and this plot just looks horrible (realistic, sure, but not the kind of realism I want from a drama), so I think I'll pass.

Thanks @orientedstar125 for the suggested reading. Based on @s2rosez (leann)’s synopsis of the webtoon in the March 18, 2021 News post for this drama it will be a pass for me.

I always wish actors good luck on their new projects and continue but I now wonder a little bit where the plus side is for SK in doing this.

Along with the rest of the cast I think Song Kang can be very proud of his performance in NAVILLERA. He had a ‘hefty’ role and a physically demanding part which called for months of training. Although not a ratings success I think it was a critical success.

I wish him luck on his new project. It wasn’t until the end of episode 5 in NAVILLERA that we got to see SK’s nice smile like in the first image above. Presumably the smile will come sooner in NEVERTHELESS.
(Another one word ‘N’ drama for him!)

Perhaps the N words will bring him luck! ^^

Navillera was surely a critical success. I agree with you that you should be very proud of himself.

There were some times in the first couple of episodes that I think he was a bit 'green', but that suited the character well (he was all grumpy and quite emotionally immature at first.) But somehow, I developed a soft spot for him. I normally like very good actors and actresses, but I'm kinda rooting for this one. Was a bit sad he didn't get the Best New Actor award at the Baeksangs, but I'm sure LDH (the young man with a sweet smile) deserved it. It was a tough competition.

He was amazing in Navillera.

Aside from starting with N, he has a butterfly tattoo in Nevertheless, and the girl's name is Na Bi, butterfly in Korean. So there's the butterfly connection of Navillera to Nevertheless.

There's also the connection of having a ballerina buildingmate in Sweet Home, to being a ballet dancer himself in Navillera.

@honeyb, honey blue, thanks for the butterfly connections.
LOL. I just looked up the synopsis for SWEET HOME available on Netflix (US). Oh my!
SK is certainly willing to take on dramas that are edgy and challenging if you will.
In the above comment I said I thought this would be a pass but I may change my mind.
NEVERTHELESS is generating conversation as people learn about the source material. I guess I will make a decision as it gets closer to airing and of course if it is available subbed on a legal site in the US.

I know he tends to choose shorter projects, but still, having a drama after a drama must be quite taxing. I hope he's getting enough rest.
