Drama viewership ratings for the week of Mar. 8-14, 2021

What a crazy week… We said goodbye to a few shows, said hello to one, and witnessed what I can only call a near-disaster. That near-disaster was River, which went through re-casting and re-filming chaos due to the male lead’s scandal. Despite that chaos, the drama’s ratings managed to stay afloat around 8 percent.

Fellow Monday-Tuesday dramas Sunbae and L.U.C.A. simmered down to a quiet end, their final ratings neither their best or worst. Then, over the weekend, we had the premiere of our new 50-episode family drama Revolutionary Sisters. As expected, the drama jumped into the ring and garnered over 20 percent.

While I am glad that Vincenzo is getting the rating it deserves (I love that show so much!!) ,I am quite surprised at Mouse's high ratings. I am liking the writing and the overall thriller aspects of that show, especially in the last episode, but I did not expect that this gritty thriller will garner over 6% ratings. Is it Lee Seung Gi effect only or something changed amongst theaudience?

I think Lee Seung Gi effect - Mouse is good but i think a lot of people who don’t usually watch thrillers will be checking it out to see if he’s evil this time 😄

Mouse is good at creating suspense. Lee seung gi effect could also be an influence eventhough he had little airtime up to ep 4 🤭. Hoping the drama maker is brave enough to make LSG the ultimate villain instead of making him the good guy again hahahaha.

Apart from that, TVN has good ratings variety shows airing before Mouse which overlaps with Sisyphus airtime...maybe that could also be a factor that influence ratings on Wed-Thurs? Viewers watch fun variety and then watch thriller crime drama to balance it out 🤣.

I'm sad for She Would Never Know, it was the only drama I watched that was coherent and normal until the end, a breath of fresh air among murderers, craziness, time travel and bad sageuk.

I agree - it's one of the few I've been able to watch start to finish lately. I really enjoyed it!

I can't believe River is winning in its time slot--I'm watching it, but more because it's a train wreck that I can't look away from. Looking forward to seeing Na In-woo with more than just one line per scene this week!

And glad to see Hello? with not bad ratings as well. It's a breath of fresh air, with some fantasy/time-travel thrown in. But doing very well making me care for both the young and "old lady" Ban-hi. I can see why disgraced chaebol would have a crush on her! I watch it before I watch Sisyphus. It's amazing that S. Korean entertainment has thrived during this pandemic when the US has had to shut down a lot of ours.

Next week it’s going to overlap with “Joseon Exorcist.” JE will be on the 10pm time slot like “My Country.”
MC didn’t get the ratings it deserves so I hope it’ll work for SBS on weekdays.
So far I’ve enjoyed SBS and JTBC sageuks the most.

I rewrote the themes for RIVER’S Soundtrack on my wall if you’re interested. I feel like I borrowed from all the other sageuks I’ve watched and some cdramas too!

Hi @kiara. I was away traveling for a couple of weeks and fell behind on the three dramas I am live watching.
One of my concerns before leaving was the 6 week (I think) overlap between RIVER and JOSEON EXORCIST.
While I was away the Ji Soo situation occurred.
I have decided not to try and catch up so RIVER and SISYPHUS are going on long-term hold and I will catch up on BEYOND EVIL. I want to catchup on MOUSE and start JOSEON EXORCIST and DARK HOLE if it becomes available. I am adding NAVILLERA to my watch list to balance some of the ‘darkness’ of the dramas above lol. After I had seen the Julie Andrews teaser for DEAR M I queued that up on VIki (US) thinking that would be a good balance to the ‘heavy’ dramas I would be watching but that seems to have been cursed like RIVER.

Sorry for running on but I do have a question (or two).
I see that both Viki (US) and ODK are carrying subbed the time slip sageuk MUST YOU GO with Kang Chan-hee and Park Jung-yeon. It has eight 30 minute episodes.
At HanCinema it under the title WILL YOU LEAVE and the networks are listed as Seezn and skyTV which I am totally unaware of.
Have you seen any of MUST YOU GO? It sounds kind of sweet. I probably should add MYG to my list of 2021 sageuks. What do you think?

Welcome back @marcusnyc20 bong-soo. Hope you had a wonderful time.

I'm not watching any sageuks right now. I can't seem to stick with any K-dramas lately but I'm hopeful that I may finish "Vincenzo."

I've heard of MUST YOU GO but haven't watched it yet. I think you should add it to the 2021 list too :).

I'm definitely going to watch "JOSEON EXORCIST" and hope that my stomach can handle it.

I am looking forward to your take on JOSEON EXORCIST. I think I saw that the first 2 episodes are rated 19. I didn’t know there was such a thing. I am prepared for blood and gore.
I hope there won’t be HAECHI redux as in being almost unable to see scenes because of the way lighting is used.

I'll see you at Gwanghwamun gate on Monday :).

I saw the first two episodes of the new weekender REVOLUTIONARY SISTERS. Most of the men are portrayed at this point as the victims of Eeeeeviiil women (especially the now dead mother), although the middle sister at least balances this out to some extent by having a lazy cheating cad for a fiancé. There is another character who can also be described as an extremely unfilial son. So at least the women do not have a monopoly on being bad. Still I am encouraged: Bad Women almost always make for great drama- and with fifty episodes we will no doubt be treated to some redemption arcs, except. of course, for the now dead mother- for whom I feel absolutely not a single shred of sadness for her passing.

Reminded me of the drama, Unkind Women. Interesting watch.
