Name That Drama: Supportive men, sageuks, and military families

  1. Supportive men

This one’s from about ten or fifteen years ago (I think) and the female lead is a wannabe architect or architecture student whose dad is a famous, established architect. They live in an awesome house he designed, with sort of a traditional courtyard in it. At one point she’s so stressed out she gets her period at a party, and makes the male lead go out and buy her tampons. Which he teases her about but totally does, blowing my young mind and ruining me for unsupportive boyfriends from then until the end of time.

  2. A deadly bank

Some years ago I saw a drama about the employees of a bank who were not efficient enough; so they were sent to an office in the countryside, somewhere in the middle of a field. Their building had no utilities at first and there was someone mysterious who kept stealing their snacks (later they discover it’s a girl from that village). Different things happen, but I only remember that one of the employees told her colleagues she was going on a trip abroad, but her passport was discovered in the field. Later, it was discovered that she was killed, and the most innocent looking character was the culprit. (I don’t remember the motive behind the murder.)

  3. Military family

What drama had a woman who was a colonel and married to an army commander? Her daughter was also in the military and became a second lieutenant.

  4. An ante

Help! I have been banging my head just to recall the title of this particular sageuk but sadly, I really could not remember. The story’s about a concubine who was so pretty that the king fell in love her. He would visit her instead of the queen, who of course was very jealous and mad about this concubine.

Something I do remember is that this concubine was a real, historical figure and the king favored her and granted her the highest ranking for consorts. She was very famous because of her beauty. The king also built a special place for the concubine; it was like their lovers’ nest. He was supposed to visit the queen to make love with her, but he went to the pretty concubine instead and bad things happened in the palace after that.

Thanks for playing, everyone — till next time!

Can confirm! It was me who sent that in and I am now on Ep 4 thanks to you :D
I think it was my first Korean drama. Weird to watch it again 10 years later and see all the tropes that I found so creative at the time! Son Ye Jin is still the absolute best though. Just her facial expressions and timing... daebak!

Personal Taste was my first K-drama as well! I was was on a bent, watching live J-drama versions of my favorite manga on YouTube and clips of it would pop up in the recommended videos. I also discovered recaps at the same time, because things would happen and I'd be like "Why did they do that?!"

I agree #4 is Dong Yi. The only clue missed was that Dong Yi and the King had a son that lived with her in the house in the village.

Yeah, it does not hold up. It seems like they were going for a Coffee Prince thing (and I just watched the ep where YEH/Eun-chan shows up as LMH/Ji-Ho's ex, Eun-su... was it a callback or are they just uncreative with side character names?), but it's just problematic from a 2020 perspective.

Yeah, it definitely did not stand the test of time. I watched it only recently, and most of it from behind my fingers - cringe city. I only stayed in it for Son Ye-jin and the fact that I could readily employ the FF button.

I respect the LMH love but also do not understand it. To me, he just looks like Sam the Eagle.

I don't get the love at all, I find him aggressively mediocre. However, when I started kdramas he was how picked dramas because I didn't know better or about dramabeans. So I immediately knew it was his drama.😂😂😂

Tagging @kafiyah-bello too. LMH's never my type either. 😅😅. Yet we should admit that he really is good looking. Whenever i watch his drama, i somehow drawn more to his sidekicks: kimbum's so yijung in bof and in PT it was im seolong.

I think he has his moments of being really good looking, but other times I'm like meh on him. So for me, it depends on the day and lighting to find him good-looking. This is so shallow😅😅😅

He is sort of like the kind of art that I can appreciate in a museum but not want to hang on the walls of my home.

The only drama that I can recall that had a military family was The Infamous Chil Princesses. Don't know any details.

Number 2 is definitely once upon a time in Saengchori! That drama was hilarious! It was also pretty crazy who ended up being the culprit.
