Hi my lovely friends,

It was a roller coaster week for me. I got my job contract renewed, finished one important project at work with appreciation, started study for a professional certification exam, then got a health scare about my sister who had a fever and ended the week with a six days off time. All in a week's time! Phew!

I hope all of you and yours are safe, happy and healthy!

Little Boy - 1015k 1st week October. let's see

1075k 19 OCTOBER - Momentum is still strong.

I am competing when i already said that i won't participate in this stupidity. Just had food after 65 Hours. heh. And a few have the delusions of me being superior. I have already openly talked about stupid antics and acts i indulged in and this specific one is going on for months. Seems like I'm also in for November and December. ohh.

Still i'm being happy Alive. ohh. This time around lower temperature but high humidity actually helped me get through these 65 Hours. Night temperature falls pretty fast. But that can be a cons too as body burns more energy to produce heat. Still better whether around and I;m highly enjoying the rough political whether all across the world. Real life is always far far more fun compared to fictional world and plastic faces.

Stock Market going good too. Gold Silver has now calmed down a bit.
Presidential elections gonna increase market volatility quite a lot in all these 4 weeks. be attentive and fight to earn as well as secure your profit. Last week i talked about Children living with parents because of economy's effects and this week - I consider 500k+ a rich household and everything in distance is upper-middle-household and middle-income-household.
I want to be rich for this to be right.

@screentime - October - 1st week - time for you.
You had asked me several weeks ago - how i disassociate myself from all lively things.
Last week i gave a small answer - Never get personally ingaged with other human beings and get to save so many resources that way. But, that was merely a view.
I do follow a framework of rules - designed be many and executed by many in their real life through successfully playing it in virtual world.
I'm the almost the only one across asian fandom(as far as i've seen) who use the term virtual identities.
Even in 2017-18 i talked about in several open posts how virtually identities( bits and bytes) consider themselves important and how human beings get too involved with these bits and bytes of identities. They see themselves in a virtual identity. virtual representation of a real human being. And this is what we term as delusion. an escape route. For someone its an insult but for us its categorisation and defining something to not have any chance of any confusion. better be clear minded. We don't so much value in a virtual identity as of 2020 many well known AI programs and bots exist that cleanly replicate a human behaviour in virtual world.
For us a virtual identity is merely a view that floats in air in pentabytes of data. That on various occasions take life energy from a human being, that copies traits and personality from the said human being. All that takes the effort of an "I"
And we use this tactic of humans to create an image and character of Cat-o-Cat. Cat-Oh-Cat used the scheme of "I" to develop more than a virtual identity to a Character(with specific personality traits and views) and now Cat-Oh-Cat sometimes look like a roleplay. Its one of the achievement to see the growth of Cat-Oh-Cat over years. The Cat-oh-Cat of 2018 is remarkably different from the 2020.
The usage of "I" created a specter where what is truth and what is a lie and what is a fiction is not more a matter. That way Cat-Oh-Cat is remarkably different from the humans it take energy from.

Still sitting here asking for clarification on what Little Boy might be. Wondering if CatoCat will ever answer me directly. I mean, not a lot, it's just a random thought as I read Open Thread while I eat my daily peanut butter toast and sip my coffee.

“ peanut butter toast and sip my coffee “

Reminds me of my traveling days - five cities in five days was not uncommon - At times, peanut butter on toast with morning coffee was the only food I could tolerate. Ah, the busy old days...

@leetennant if you don't travel with a jar of vegemite peanut butter you're doing travel wrong

8

It's sad how wrong you are about this
*bites into vegemite toast*

4

Peanut butter is the best

4

I think it has something to do with trading on the stock market or some other form of speculation, with the figures referring to the profits made.

Peanut butter toast and coffee: one of my favourite combinations.

I will never understand peanut butter. It's so strange for me. It's not even common in my country nowadays. I remember wanting to taste it whenever I watch TV shows when I was a little girl (like Eight is enouh) because I found it fascinating, it must be so cool instead of normal, simple butter. And then I got to try it as an adult and didn't really like it.
Isn't it fascinated how you like / dislike certain things just because you don't grow with them?

9

@eazal Peanut butter used to be strange for me too. As a child I didn't like it because it didn't fit into any of my personal categories of food/flavours. It seemed like a sweet because it appeared in confectionary, but was salty enough to be used in savoury items. Then I grew up, got rid of all those prejudices and just ate it any way I wanted.

6

Growing up, used to find peanut butter fascinating - such a US sitcom thing! Only got to try it for the first time in my twenties - and, yes, I love it because I love everything nutty, but it is an unusual taste here

6

@eazal, peanut butter is definitely a regional food that can be off putting for those who didn't grow up with it. Like say, the Australian's love Vegemite. The texture alone could be gross.

4

I belong to the category who do not like Peanut butter. I do not like the sate sauce (Indonesian peanut based) as well.

I grew up eating peanuts in various forms but these two I never enjoyed.

4

:D .. what are the best investment decisions for now? which sectors to invest in ?

1

@alasecond I'm afraid I know nothing about that kind of thing, and have never made a penny from anything other than the most traditional kinds of work :)

1

1st time i thought it was malicious so ignored but when a fellow VI is curious - I'm using it for several months and in between talked about how much Little Boy normalised what wasn't earlier. How Little boy is around. And i do , so i never thought it has the capacity to confuse someone. Answer is always there, You just have open up to it.

I love dairy products - they have protected me so far, Well, its different matter when others call you child for liking Milk products. I wholeheartedly accept that view too.

Required fields are marked *

But again, what IS Little Boy?

4

Since it's something you are using, a car perhaps? A more environmentally friendly electric car or hybrid vehicle that is becoming more normal or common these days?

4

It is an open thread why be malicious to someone who is saying what they want. I generally get other references except this one. Is it some kind of dairy you consume?

(People calling someone child for loving milk products, half of my country will be childish then, but then looking at the leaders they select...)

2

For the record, I'm too lazy to be obliquely malicious. I'm just curious and apparently too dense to puzzle it out.

7

I think it's the number of Covid fatalities... but don't mind me, it's just a random thought while I'm eating my toast with humus spread, rolling through the OT and preparing myself for the evening bed-time routine with my twins... 🙂

Not toast though - sage pumpkin seed bread baked daily in the bakery section. Yum.

It is a well known fact that Korean celebrities can make more from endorsements and promotional events than singing or acting projects. Part of it is based on the Korean agency model which charges back all expenses to the artist (especially heavy debt loads for younger talent). Top stars have been reported to earn around one billion won (~$836,270.00) a year from such endorsements.

There is nothing wrong with cashing in on one’s popularity. CLOY was a huge hit in Japan. This week, Son Ye Jin held a virtual Japanese fan meeting. In the past, an audience of 1,000 would sit in a theater to interact with a star. Viewers were charged $16 to see the two hour event where SYJ sat in a small studio answering (prescreened) questions with a moderator and translator. Reports have it that 50,000 to 80,000 people attended this virtual meeting for a gross between $800,000 to $1.28 million.

Last year, The Korea Herald reported that BTS raked in 93.6 billion won ($77.2 million) from ticket sales for their Love Yourself: Speak Yourself world tour in May and June 2019. The group also live-streamed their Wembley concert on June 1 via VLIVE, which charged $28 per viewing. A reported 756,600 checked out that concert.

BTS charged $35 to catch the show, or $26 for members of BTS’s Army fan club, which means the band drew in between $19 million and $26 million in ticket sales. Rolling Stone magazine remarked that in perspective, Ed Sheeran’s Divide tour — which Pollstar ranks as the highest grossing concert tour of all time — grossed $775.6 million over 2.5 years and 255 dates, or about $3 million per show. BTS’s virtual show would reach that same gross in under 40 dates. And with considerably fewer expenses than what comes with a traditional, multi-date tour across the world, BTS can likely keep much more of that cash.

The revenue generating power of a simple fan meeting live stream is staggering. Fans are willing to pay to watch their favorites on a screen instead of in person. And apparently, it is going to be the future of entertainment distribution (fueled in part due to the pandemic).

This is what i like - Media is business and Propaganda tool.
That's why i always say - They only respect they deserve from me is for earning their livelihood.
Most tv dramas are just a long winded advertisements, manipulating the user aka customer. That's why in most democracies Competition Acts have specific remarks on MNCs.
Customer is king, Customer is always right, Customer knows best are just manipulation tactics to flatter the consumer.
The same consumer is a voter too so if you can get them with 1 you can get them with everything.
Thew way a person from a specific relgion is always a terriost
The way a person of colur is on most occasion a drug dealer or thief or looter or a indulged in such -ve stuff. Soft Power is used to brainwash the minds, slowly-slowly very successfully.
How a specific physical(mostly facial) is a must to be awesome.
Most of them time i come to the view that Kdramas are indirectly run on endorsements of plastic surgery industry.

Fan meetings are weird. It took me so long to even begin to understand what these things were. It's so wrong to give "fans" this idea that if they pay, they have the right to get information and access to their "favorite". It's not like a regular ad or campaign, it's a whole other level of selling parts of what should be private life or at least pretending to sell, which is just as bad because it fuels this stupid system.

6

Required fields are marked *

The concept of selling access is weird, but I guess it’s just another opportunity for celebrities to make the most of their small windows of opportunity. Famous athletes do fan appearances too, and for similar reasons. Actual performance and endorsement deals only get you so far, I guess.

IA. It's just a bit of a fantasy, playing into the image that your fans want you to be. The only one I liked was So Ji Sub's who would donate the $$ earned from them to charity. Other than that, I feel like the irony is there are Korean actors who look down on Idols, and also take part in the Fan meetings and such lol. I think it's more of a thing in Asia, the whole idea of owning your favorites.

Someone wants to run away to Mars together? Thanks to beanies, dramas and azzo's wedding posts, I still know the world isn't that bad and there are good people around. But sometimes I need a reassurance of that because we are time and again reassured that it is bad.
I was watching this clip of Dive studios, where PH-1 (current oppa lol) discusses how he is hesitant about the idea of having kids. If you would've asked me this a few years ago, I wouldn't have sided with him but now this world looks so messy and dangerous for kids and humans in general that even I question why should one bring another life in this hell of a world. Need some assurance that good people exist and they are aplenty hah but that's why I'm here even if I've never met any of you I know you all are great!

As a person with young children - we thought about it a lot before deciding to have our third, and I still think the world is a very scary place. No doubt their world will look very different by the time they’re adults - I just hope they can be resilient and adaptable and make a positive contribution.

You've got to have hope, faith and belief to let go of the unforeseen future otherwise none of us can survive a day. So I definitely get why parents would be worried and why they would still want to go ahead with it. As he said in the podcast too that it is probably the kind of worry our parents might have had too before having us. We know too much now, I also think things must have been better to some extent in the 20th century.

My sister asked me, in all sincerity, why don't we build brick houses in Calif because they won't burn so easily (every house where we grew up in Arkansas was made of brick). I said because of earthquakes! She says, why don't I move back to the midwest? Because I'm terrified of tornadoes.
I"m not even that close to the fires and we could only go outside for a couple of days last week. Can't imagine the people living closer.

happy friday beanies ! :-)

i actually did manage to watch some episodes over this week— i got up to episode 10 of fight for my way. i felt a bit of a lull there (nothing wrong with the drama, i just got used to watching multiple shows in quarantine), so i actually started because this is my first life and have finished episode 4 so far. already am in love with lee min ki and jung somin, and it’s kinda funny that this is the 5th drama i’ve seen kim sun young in (7th if i include cameos!) i haven’t seen @juniebug in a while on the OT, but if you’re out there, i just wanted to thank you for recommending these dramas to me, and i hope everything is well with you :-)

i may drop flower of evil— i only got up to ep 7 and saw that many people were displeased with the writing— thoughts?

i have a very strong urge to watch my ahjussi— clips keep coming up on my explore page and iu’s performance seems so good already, but i don’t know if i want to start it because i’ve heard the beginning is dark, and i don’t know if i can handle a dark show right now…

my act is next week and i do not know if it will happen for sure, but stay tuned to find out! school is just really stressful, everyone says the first half of senior year would be hard and i understood that, but i think experiencing it is a whole other story. i already have as much work as i did as last year, so i’m kinda worried. i guess the one thing that i’m happy about is there’s no fomo— it really hurt last year to see all my friends being invited to parties and i just never got invited places. i know that it’s kinda twisted to say i’m happy that the pandemic has stopped people from having parties, i’m sorry, but there’s a longer story behind that that i just do not want to get into.

i’m sorry, i feel like i complain a lot each week. i do have a good life and good friends and family, it’s just that when i am tired, the bad things seem to eclipse the good-- but i will try to keep my head up :-)

besides homework, i have just been doing applications every moment of free time. i think the lack of seeing my friends and not being able to watch dramas is getting to me, but i know that by the end of the month i will be less busy because my key essays will be ready by then— i don’t know if i want november to come slower so that i don’t have to work on these essays, or if i want it to come faster so i’ll be done then!

wishing everyone a happy weekend! <3

My dear Shachi, it is good that you realize that there is a deadline to your school suffering, it will make it easier to bear it all. However, that does not mean you are not allowed to feel a bit down or overwhelmed by it all. Those feelings are somehow there, so it is better to voice them and deal with them in a healthy manner, like coming to Dramabeans for Beanie comfort!🤗

I experienced a lot of this myself. Last month with all the exams I did not know whether I wanted more time to prepare for each exam or if I wanted to skip to October straight away! And yes, going without K-dramas (and friends) for a while can cause severe withdrawal symptoms indeed!🤣

I also can relate to (not) being invited to stuff and feeling torn about whether I should attend or should have been invited in the first place as to not fall out of grace with any peers, despite not liking those parties and the pressure it entails. I still feel that way, but right now it is because I am unemployed and do not have the money for such things.😂

Last but not least, Beanies are here to hear your woes, so please do not feel bad about that! I have more OT complaining experience than you do!😉

Shachi! Keep smiling and ranting! This is why we have this thread!

I am glad you re watching "Because this is my first life". One of the few serials which talk about what marriage is in the contemporary time. It was so close to real life experience of what being married means in an Asian family means. It can be adapted to an Indian Serial (not on TV channels with 2000 episodes)

Most serials (and films) end at the wedding but the real story starts with marriage. (Side note: I wonder who say they want a fairy tale wedding ever read real versions of fairy tales).

I used to say (and still do), in most Indian arranged marriages, bride (and her folks) spend more time to decide on the saree than the guy. :-D

I would like to hear what you liked about the show!

It's been a very stressful month and a half because of work, I've suffered from migraines, headaches and anxiety almost everyday and, but now I'm having 10 days to rest and disconnect from everything.
And it will literally be disconnected as I'm going to my dad house where I will be wifi-less: no pc, no cell phone, no calls from work, just walks in the countryside and lots of reading.
I will miss beanies and dramas, but I'm dreaming about all the sleep and rest I will take!!!!

Hi beanies. I'm just very tired with all that is happening around me and upset. So we got a new cpu cause our old one was getting repaired and my brother ruined that also. We were yet to get an antivirus but he still went ahead and tried to download movies from uTorrent despite me REPEATEDLY warning him not to. Now my computer is infected. There is no sound and Google chrome is the only app that works. Absolutely nothing else works. I am unable to even open the system settings. I tried looking online for help but nothing is working. It's so sad because I really loved working on my pc. Also we've forgotten our wifi password so we have limited data on our phones. We can't tell dad about this cause he will not get it repaired since we just ruined a previous system. I am really angry at my brother. People should really learn how to listen to others.
The good thing is that I have 18 Again to help me cope with this situation. It's a wonderful show and I relate to it a lot as an Asian kid. I love how it shows various aspects of parental love. It makes me appreciate my dad a little more. I'm getting anxiety about college since it hasn't started and covid cases in my country seem to be hitting milestones. It's an awful time to be a student for sure. Every day feels the same and I am unable to even focus on reading but I'm trying my best to work on it. Our nation is currently rocked by the rape of a lower caste woman. It happened in my state it's hard not to be affected by all of this. Here's to gathering strength to move forward beanies.

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!

To live up to the Monday reputation, one employer did not wait until October as agreed to deliver the bad news. The feedback report discussed all the required competences for the job and my scores for each of them. To score well you have to explain for each competence in thorough detail an example of a situation in your past work experiences where you used that competence accordingly. You can use other fields like studies, hobbies,…if you cannot rely on your work experiences, but you must prepare an example and present it (This is the STAR method, for those who are familiar with it).

So I also used other fields, because I only scored temp jobs up until now, and temps do not get authority to attend meetings or speak up, or are allowed to do much at my previous work places. Or there was authority, but limited knowledge about the matter, so speaking up would actually cause harm. Of course, despite explaining all this to the exam jury, my report card says that I am not capable or willing to take any initiative, speak up, and my absolute favorite: I hide behind my colleagues as soon as it gets tough…🤦‍♀️😤 I actually thought their interview was the most successful one. I cannot wait for the results of the other 3 now.🙄

This feedback report ended up giving me a small career crisis, and I even considered changing majors again from administration to…and that is where my mind drew a blank.🤔 My lack of tempo (hence my username) does not make for a good match, and rushing me is like demanding a blind person to see well. This decision seemed so urgent and made me feel so lost for most of the week. Fortunately the problem is not that I picked the wrong major, but that I keep picking employers I do not match with.😌 I may be smart enough to be a civil servant, judging from my master’s degree and my job exam results, but I doubt whether a turtle like me would survive in a jungle workplace like that where only the hares who are always multiple steps ahead of everyone else, survive.

Officially, there is no need to despair until I am rejected by the other remaining employers as well, but why wait for that when there are many other potential job applications and job hunt strategies to consider?🤔 I am glad that I have some semblance of job hunt motivation left after September, because K-drama binging without a care does not solve my unemployment. However, some clarity would help to have the best of both worlds, there are too many interesting K-dramas airing to be responsible all the time you know!😆

Hang in there @turtuallysarcastic! Things are rough rn but I know you'll get through it.
I totally relate with your third paragraph. I woke upto a rejection today and the first thing that came to my mind was time to change fields and then, to what really? But I always think that some things don't reach us because there is some thing even better for us in store which will reach us on the right time. So hang in there, the right opportunity will come soon.
Also ouch that's a wake up call "because K-drama binging without a care does not solve my unemployment". 🤭

It is hard to balance an adequate amount of job searching with K-drama binges, huh?🤭 I hope you are right, sometimes I am just so shocked and angry by the way I get treated. I am just looking for a job, no need to treat me like I stopped being human simply because we do not match well.

A couple of years ago some university did a study on how effective job interviews are. They found out that they are almost totally useless in judging future performance or a good company fit. Just one of many examples (Google 'how useful are job interviews' for many more) https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/08/opinion/sunday/the-utter-uselessness-of-job-interviews.html

In the long run, these "appraisals" are not what is going to decide your future. There was this guy in our school who was pretty good artist and barely passed his science and maths exam. (In an Asian school, THOSE are the only subjects which matter to teachers). And was told by our teacher that he has not future. He is head of the art department for one of the biggest ad agencies in the country.

People judging are not going to define your career or future. Best of luck for meeting better folks in your future professional endeavors.

Currently, I am not watching any K-drama. I finished The School Nurse Files in the last week. And was watching mostly (English) films.

Currently, I am watching an old Japanese serial called "The last Cinderella". And "American Gods". I am waiting for some serial to finish to binge watch and Stranger Season 2 is not yet released in my country on Netflix.

And while it lasts, enjoy the ride!

I should put "classics" in quotes, as it's only what I've gleaned from lurking around here and other places on the Internet. The dramas that come up again and again in people's comments and conversations. For me, this has been things like (in addition to the above) Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo, Splish Splash Love, Descendants of the Sun. All probably debatable!

Also I think there was a recent post here about what dramas long-time fans use to recruit new fans. That was a great resource!

Hello and happy Friday to all you beanies around the world. I don't write much but always come and read the wall.
Lately I haven't been on much as I've been watching the Chinese drama called "With You" on the WeTV channel. It's about how life was changed in Wuhan China during December 2019. They are telling real life stories with famous actors and actresses. At the end of each 2-episode story they show pictures of the real people being honored.

I tell you, it's very moving and reminds me of how so many people around the world have suffered from the virus. Not only China but Italy and New York City among other places who went through weeks of so many cases and daily deaths. I watched it on the news but couldn't really feel it.

Yes this is a drama and so isn't telling how China hid the news for a whole month - watch CoronaNation for that - but it tells how scary it was.

The past 6 months of unemployment during a pandemic, wild fires in the valley around me, watching a government who doesn't seem to care for its electorate has been hard. But still I'm healthy and have enough.

So I watch these shows to remind myself and let my heart hurt for those who have and still are suffering so much.

Sorry if this is kind of somber writing.... but it's how I feel right now.
maybe the only good news is now that tRump has supposedly tested positive for COVID, we won't be subjected to any more of his incoherent-unhinged-outofcontrol debate performances.
See I try to find something positive every day!

"Coronation" is merely a movie and that's all it is. It does NOT represent the facts in reality and the actual timeline of events that happened in China at the outset of the outbreak. And no, being made by a Chinese artist does not make the movie any more true. Besides, the coronavirus outbreak is a medical, health and governmental matter. Since when has an ARTIST become an authoritative figure on such subjects?

Besides, to many, Wei Wei is considered a Chinese dissident. So obviously, anti-China.

The claim that China hid the news for a whole month is FALSE.

If you want to know the ACTUAL timeline of events which are based on FACTS, see below

26 Dec 2019 – Dr Zhang Jixian examined 4 cases of pneumonia in patients who visited Hubei Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, and first noticed that they seemed to be cases of pneumonia of an unknown cause

26/27 Dec 2019 – Dr Zhang notified Hubei Hospital of her observation

27 Dec 2019 – Hubei Hospital reports this to the DISTRICT CDC (Jianghan CDC) – this marks the FIRST REPORTING TO THE LOCAL HEALTH AUTHORITIES IN WUHAN, HUBEI, CHINA

28 Dec 2019 – Hubei Hospital also reports it to the Wuhan Health Commission (CITY CDC) AND the Hubei Health Commission (PROVINCIAL CDC)

29 Dec 2019 – District CDC, Wuhan CDC and Hubei Hospital begin an investigation into the report by Dr Zhang and began quarantining people

30 Dec 2019 – Within 24 hours after the investigation, Wuhan CDC reports the cluster of cases to CHINA CDC (NATIONAL CDC) – this is the FIRST TIME THAT THE NATIONAL HEALTH AUTHORITIES KNEW ABOUT THE SITUATION.

This is also the day that Dr Li Wenliang told his friends (other medical professionals) in a WeChat group about the pneumonia of unknown cause so that they can warn their friends and family, but not to leak it to anybody else

31 Dec 2019 – The WUHAN MUNICIPAL HEALTH COMMISSION ISSUED ITS FIRST WARNING TO THE CHINESE PUBLIC on its website and China’s state media channel, CCTV, reported on it at least twice on this day. The Health Commission also suggested that the public wear masks.

This is also the same day that the World Health Organisation’s (WHO’s) Country Office in China picked up the media statement by the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission from their website on cases of ‘viral pneumonia’ in Wuhan

The WHO’s Country Office also notified the International Health Regulations (IHR) focal point in the WHO Western Pacific Regional Office about this

THIS IS THEREFORE THE 1ST DAY THAT WE CAN SAY THAT THE INTERNATIONAL HEALTH AUTHORITIES BECAME AWARE – which is ONLY 5-6 DAYS AFTER THE FIRST MEDICALLY SUSPECTED CASE AS REPORTED BY DR. ZHANG

1-2 Jan 2020 -- WHO requested further information on the reported cluster of atypical pneumonia cases in Wuhan from the Chinese authorities

3 Jan 2020 – Within 24-48 hours, Chinese officials provided information to WHO on the cluster of cases of ‘viral pneumonia of unknown cause’ identified in Wuhan

WHO emergencies director Michael Ryan told a press conference on Jul 3 2020 that countries have 24 to 48 hours to officially verify an event and provide the agency with additional information about the nature or cause of an event.
Ryan added that the Chinese authorities immediately contacted WHO as soon as the agency asked to verify the report.

Verifiable if you do your own research (a lot of the results will be in Chinese language), and from the WHO's official timeline (https://www.who.int/news-room/detail/29-06-2020-covidtimeline)

This video is also informative: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kO5EXjFKE7U&t=1s

FURTHERMORE:

After 3 Jan 2020 – Chinese researchers worked to find sufficient scientific evidence to indicate that the virus could be transmitted by humans to other humans

19 Jan 2020 – Human-to-human transmission was officially confirmed by experts at China’s National Health Commission

20 Jan 2020 – A press conference was held to publicly announce this to the media

What I liked about Coronation is the videos of the streets and people living their lives during this time. The doctors working hard to figure things out. Wei Wei is considered a dissident I know about - but I think he speaks the truth.
So many countries failed to take this seriously and didn't lock down - but so many more have suffered as a result. I just like to learn as much as I can.

In this crazy world of misinformation and disinformation, it's hard to separate truth from falsehood so it's always good to have the attitude of wanting to learn as much as one can, and I think it is something to be applauded; it never hurts to learn more! :)

I agree with you that many countries failed to take this seriously enough which is costing so many lives unfortunately, and it's interesting to get a glimpse of how people are living their lives during this time

I hope you take care and stay safe!

Subway, which was a PPL staple in k-dramas, was this week in the news.
In a sales tax case, the Irish Supreme Court ruled Subway bread is not "bread" because it contains up to 10% sugar ratio. To be a non-taxable "staple" bread, it must be under 2%.

Hello all:
Hoping all is well with you all. The woodchucks, squirrels, chipmunks, and all manner of rodentia are making one side of my garden look like a storm hit it. They're so cute though. Hard to hate their shenanigans when they're so darn huggable.

Dramas:
Stranger 2 is my only watch right now. I can't praise it enough. I've watched every episode holding my breath. Who knew we all loved Prosecutor Seo so much? Heck, who knew Prosecutor Shi-mok loved Prosecutor Seo so much? I hope by the end both guys realize how much of a friendship they have together. Am wondering what mental or physical issue our kidnap victim will have when he recovers. He better not be totally sound and perfect when all this is over. It doesn't ring true. Am so happy that his wife is shown as loving him and that we are shown that for all his whiny sleazy desperation he was a great prosecutor.

I didn't see the end of Flower of Evil. I kinda lost interest when it disposed of an interesting storyline.

Was watching Alice but i kept fearing they were dropping hints of making the erstwhile mother/son into fated lovers from another timeline. I know they wouldn't do that but it all made me very uncomfortable so i dropped it last week.

Gotta catch up on Missing: the other side. I guess it's good but i kinda lost interest.

Haven't watched Zombie Detective. I started the first episode and got overwhelmed by the whole death thing. Yeah, i know..maybe the effect of too many dead bodies and rotting corpses in true crime dramas. Maybe all the covidity around. So i stopped watching.

Saw Matchless Mulan on youtube, which is a Chinese-made Mulan adaptation. Very good.

Not into any cdramas right now but i might be watching The longest night on iqiyi.

Happy weekend all, and keep safe and healthy.

Shi-mok did not let it go when he was basically told to drop his investigation. One little bit I liked was the ‘great job’ Shi-mok got over the phone from Chief Prosecutor Kang. Happy friday, beanies! My phone broke down slightly the other day after have fallen down on the floor one too many times, the touch sensor works sometimes and sometimes refuses every command I make or make up it's own command. I am obviously unnerved by this as my morning alarm and current favorite novel resides in my phone, but I'm secretly enjoying the un-ability to answer texts. Multiple texts are my nemesis.

I picked some rose-hip last weekend and made both marmelade and soup on this. As my hands have healed during the week (and the pain of the alcoholic gel at work stung less than anticipated), I'll try to pick some more this weekend and dry to use over the winter for more soup (which my children won't touch anyway).

And since the reply function of the peanut butter discussion is no longer viable, I just have to say I picked up the best recipe for peanut butter cookies. I can't stand the dryness of peanut butter, but in cookies and frostings it's awesome. To go with some coffee, aww heaven...

Happy Friday (well Saturday here), all!

I’m grumpy because the neighbours were having a party till 3am last night (possibly longer but that’s when I fell asleep- I’m very tempted to go and start mowing the lawn now it’s morning and they’re all quiet 😈 )

It’s been a nice week though. We visited my parents farm, the weather was hugely stormy for the first bit then beautiful. The kids had a ball. (Also, I have to say thank you to whoever posted the dance practice clip of Criminal on the fan wall - my 6yo loves it and keeps trying to do the choreography, which is hilarious).

I know it’s only October, but there seem to be lots of creative types here so thought I’d ask - anyone here going to do NaNoWriMo? I haven’t done it for years but I’m thinking about doing it this year.

I do not know if that is the case, but do not let having zero novel ideas stop you. I usually give myself a word count challenge/ write every day challenge during nanowrimo, because I like the process of writing more than the final result (and because I have zero inspiration for a novel). In the end the daily blurbs somehow start to fit together and it becomes a story idea for a future edition. ;)

Not really but I never let that stop me 😄 my sister and I have done it a couple of times and we generally make a list of elements our story has to include (eg must use a particular word in every chapter, must include a poem) and just see what happens 😂 I’ve managed to make it to 50000 words a couple of times but one of them did involve a character doing a lot of maniacal laughing to pad the word count. I haven’t tried in a few years though.

Honestly, Kdrama is saving my sanity right now with everything going on in 2020, and I love how supportive this community is too.
I'm sad that Forest of Secrets/Stranger 2 is almost over, and I won't have that to look forward to anymore. But I've just re-watched CLOY, and realized how much my Korean language has progressed even in just a few months. From zero to 0.2, basically! Heeheehee.

@midnightramyeon - I chuckled at your spreadsheet comment...I have a notebook of multiple handwritten lists: dramas to watch (as they air), dramas to binge watch, dramas to rewatch, dramas to watch due to beanies’ comments....hmm maybe I should use a spreadsheet!

BTW - I think VIKI has the best subtitles sometimes explaining Korean culture/terminology.

i did watch it on netflix, but i was super confused at times because there are some jokes that are hard to understand if you don't know culture or korean. viki is awesome if you can deal with the ads!

ps. spreadsheets are super helpful HEEHEE

1

Viki is a must for watching Chicago Typewriter.

4

You read my mind @ndlessjoie mugyuljoie. The Viki team that subbed CHICAGO TYPEWRITER as far as I am concerned set the standard. Because the drama takes place in modern Korean history (the last hundred years) during the Japanese occupation that team took their job very seriously. The added notes for historical context were outstanding.

4

Ooh, this is good to know. I watched Chicago Typewriter on Netflix, but I should re-watch on Viki then.
Verrrryyy much appreciate this pro tip! I come from a background in linguistics and anthropology, so basically I am fully licensed to nerd out on this kind of thing :)

4

Have you tried MyDramaList?? It does this for you basically. Dramas you've watched, want to watch, are watching, are not interested in watching, dropped. You can also rank, rate and review them, leave notes on them for yourself. I found it helpful.

2

@leetennant um mydramalist sounds PERFECT FOR ME how did i not know about this before

I've been strongly considering a re watch of Fight My Way.
And I was one of the ones that went completely gaga over Healer and rewatched certain scenes for weeks.

When I watched Reply 1997 I'd then read the recaps on here and will probably do the same when I actually watch the others. I miss having GF and JB's writing as a companion piece to my viewing.

Hi Beanies! Another crazy week in paradise. However, @azzo1's update on her and her new hubby picked me up enough today to get on the OT! And my shows are giving me a nice distraction from the real world.

Speaking of, still loving my PBG in Record of Youth--SHJ's cameo was so unexpected but adorable. PBG looks SOOOO YOUNG next to an actress like her. Not that she looks young, but her acting is so mature. PBG has a really youthful vibe in this show, which is perfect for his character. Some people are complaining about the chemistry between him and PSD. However, I think their relationship is a lot like mine and my husband's. We're not used to kdrama couples to hold hands before the 6th episode and the angst and desire gets dialed up until it happens. We didn't get that here. They are both level-headed people, falling in love, but acting normal around each other otherwise. Kdramas make OTPs awkward which is endearing, but a lot of people aren't that way. I do like them together in this. And the kiss in the van which was appropriate and consensual-- really well done! I like all the side characters too.

And still loving DYLB? as well. I enjoy this one like a good glass of wine, sipping it through the week. I'm still working on episode 10. It's slow and deliberate and that's nice. I'm only watching for the OTP, all the other characters aren't very compelling for me.

And, of course, I caught the 1st episode of the Coffee Prince reunion. That show was lightning in a bottle, and even the cast knew it when they were filming it--it had something special, never to be reproduced. Gong Yoo was just as star struck with Yoon Eun Hye when he saw her act. She devoted her whole self to that role and it showed. She WAS Eun Chan. Gong Yoo WAS Han Kyul. When you watch that show you don't even see the actors, just their characters. I felt the same with that whole cast. These people really existed (or we could imaging they did) and I think that's why it resonated with all of us so much.

Just a life update: things are crazy, lots of people sick, others recovered, but the Math Genius and my daughter are still making memories together. This time through virtual learning and virtual math competitions, which we just participated in a couple weeks ago. And I don't think daughter has ever been that impressed with Math Genius until this week when they had a project to complete separately for their current event class.

Daughter: I hate current events! It's a total waste of time and we have to spend SO MUCH TIME ON IT!

Me: Yeah, Math Genius' dad texted me the first couple weeks of school telling me that they were spending too much time on it for what it was. I told him you were only spending class time on it.

Daughter: EVERYONE is spending all of class time on it, and out of class time too! But that would explain something.

Me: What?

Daughter: Math genius and his partner did a slide...

... animation presentation that looked REALLY GOOD, like AMAZINGLY good. I was impressed. *raises eyebrows to make sure I know how impressive this feat is*

Me: How about yours?

Daughter: Mine was fine, but theirs was so much better than all the live students too. Like, maybe he IS spending too much time on this.

Me: Well, maybe he is. *checks texts to see if Math Genius' dad has texted me about current events lately*

Moral of the Story: Love is in the air!

Second Moral: Current events are kind of important right now. I feel bad that our kids are living through it, actually.

Third Moral: Continue to stay safe and healthy, Beanies!

I really think about my 8th grade social studies teacher at least once a week now. He gave us a current events quiz every Friday and in those days you were supposed to be reading it in the newspaper. Not even getting it from the hour of nightly news on tv. We were all terrible at it and hated having to pretend to pay attention. Now I live for the news, take the weekly NYT current events quiz and get 100% every time🤣 it turns out I’m a current events ace, I just wasn’t ready when Mr Walls thought I should be 😁

Well Beanies, I always come and whine when awful things happen so heres a meh update from me. Not particularly bad or good but an update.
I asked to have a weekly meeting with my manager. I think its irresponsible to move across the country, so far from my dad when were still in the pandemic. I dont think itll help at all as everything is still 100% awful there.
I found a new apartment and am on my way to sign the lease now. It has a spare room for my dad if it comes to that, a patio, and LAUNDRY HOOKUPS!! BOOYAH!!
The meh of it all is I now have thousands of dollars in hospital bills which Im going to go on a payment plan for and the pcp I saw today made intense eye contact and told me that I can no longer put off getting a biopsy done on my thyroid which is looking mighty cancerous. Its not exactly what she said but Ive mostly blocked it out and only heard: hospital bills hospital bills hospital bills and MORE hospital bills!
Also. I dont want cancer, yall. Ive had enough just in general enough in life. No more. I draw the line at cancer. She said that I may have to have it removed. Which again hosptial bills hospital bills hospital bills. No thank you.
So...par for the course, 3 steps forward 3 strps back. But I was already sitting in the middle of a fire so, meh who cares?

Isa, please take care of yourself! And guess what, if you can't pay for your bills, it doesn't matter. Not that I'm condoning this, but hospitals write off a lot of bills that people never pay. And I know that thyroid cancer sounds scary, but a lot of it is treatable! So, go get that biopsy, get that cancer out, and don't think about the money. My uncle recently had a throat cancer and his wife was all "let's move back to Vietnam and get it taken care of there because we don't have enough money to pay for the medical bills there." Now, the cancer is gone, and he's healthy again, and they are doing fine! Social workers and patient financial planners/ advocates are able to help a lot of people. There are people who can and will help! Fighting, and YAY for the new apartment!

The lease has been signed. Twirls have occured. Now Im going to go investigatr how much iy costs to rent to own a washer dryer. Things are working out, son! Woot woot! And, and this is a silly want. So silly that it didnt even make it onto my clipboard. Nut it has a window overlooking the sink in the kitchen. My granny, my grandma and both of my fav aunts had this in their homes. Windows over the sink says home and this is the very first time ive had this since Ive been an adult. Im off to find some yellow curtains that flutter in the wind.

Congratulations on the new place isa. And you're correct, a window over the sink is very homey, and I will never understand new fangled kitchen designs that put the sink in the middle of an island. If I have to do dishes let me look outside and imagine I can escape, or maybe just yell at the birds to be quiet.

Anyways, I'm happy for this very much not meh update. YAYYYY.

Now, do what ally said, and get that biopsy, no cancer for isa. I won't allow it.

Congratulations on the apartment and the window! You might see if there's a used appliance store (a trustworthy one) since in the long run it might be cheaper to purchase a washer and dryer. Also, listen to Ally and hope for the best.

Another second to what Ally said, perhaps find out who (social worker, patient advocate) at your hospital can help with the medical bills. I've seen them cut the total payment due and even erase the patient portion of the payment depending on the person's financial situation even when the patient has medical insurance.

Yay for the apartment, that is great news. Not such great news on the health front, I hope you can sort something. Waiting tends to make things more difficult and more expensive, in my experience (not that I understand the American health system at all) so best to get things dealt with if you can. Good luck!

Our annual attempt to find a time to watch the classic I'm Not a Robot together despite all these strange zones of time.

Well the first two hours start in 15 minutes (7am AEST) and I will be there at least even if nobody else makes it.

I've set up a permanent room over at Kosmi so it's One Link To Rule Them All, which is on my fanwall but also here.
https://app.kosmi.io/room/fx9ujh

You can join the room by following the link without doing any other signup work on Kosmi. And feel free to pop in and out as you choose.
