Name That Drama: A design thief, multilingual love confessions, and purse abuse

  1. Stolen shoe designs

I saw this drama back around 2009, and I remember it was an older drama even then. It has to be either a ’90s or early 2000s drama. What I remember–there were two sisters, the “good” sister and the “bad” sister. (The bad sister might have been a stepsister, half-sister or a cousin, can’t remember.) The good sister designs shoes. The bad sister, a.k.a. second female lead, either ends up working for the same company or just in the same field, and steals her designs. There is a male lead and romance but I don’t remember specifics. It felt very old, like Tomato or Attic Cat, with the cliched, jealous second female and Candy protagonist. But beyond the age and the stolen shoe designs I don’t remember much else.

  2. A jerk and a video

A girl confesses to a jerk and news of her confession gets spread around the campus. Later on, we find out that the jerk didn’t spread the story after all. Some other guy accidentally got a video of the confession, and a group of mean girls forced that guy to show them what he recorded. I just remember this scene because the video guy was so far away (up in a building?) that you had to suspend logic to believe that he could record something from that distance with just his cell phone’s camera.

  3. A multilingual love confession

There was a drama that my friend was watching and I saw a scene that really stood out to me. All I remember is that the main guy was reciting “I love you” in different languages to the main girl. I think she was from somewhere rural, so she was kind of country bumpkin-looking (if I remember the way she dressed correctly, lol). Please help me figure out this drama! Would like to watch it.

  4. A marriage plot

The female lead is a competent TV announcer and the male lead is this playboy chaebol that really likes her. He ruins her career so that she’s forced to marry him, but then they eventually fall in love.

  5. Purse abuse

In the scene, the mother of either the female lead or the female lead’s best friend is in a mall. I don’t remember what happens but one rich lady (who is one of the bad guys in the drama) hit her with a purse. A mall employee filmed the scene with her phone and put it online. When her daughter learns about the video, she tries to delete it from the internet before her mother can find out about the video’s existence.

Thanks for playing, everyone — till next time!

Yes, it was such a cute and beautiful reveal! Lee Min Ki's character wasn't the best but, that goes own in Drama history for one of the best confessions.

He was obnoxious and immature but actually got great character development

I only knew this one because of you! I was like? I don’t know the show, but I know Lee Min Ki is the lead! Lol.

I am going to have to track this down as I can’t recall watching it, It then I thought I’d seen all of Lee Min Kis dramas/movies.

I'm weirdly attached to it despite the fact that it really isn't a great drama, lol. His character is obnoxious at first (and he plays that obnoxiousness to a T LOL) but the best part of the whole show was his character development, and he and Eugene are so cute together!

I was very liberal with the fast forward while watching, however...

Wish Viki hadn't dropped it. I wanna see it again!

Viki dropped it right after I finished watching it which I found hilarious, as if they were waiting for me to finish. Literally within 3 days of finishing I noticed it was gone LOL.

But the Viki quality was terrible, tbh. The quality you can get on illegal sites is way better, even. I have it downloaded in 720p, it's great, lol.

I thought it could be that drama, because Eugene really plays a country bumpkin big time, LOL.

I don’t know the actual answer to #4, but it sounds a lot like that awful C-drama Well-Intended Love 😂

Any scene where the male lead is a horrible manipulative abusive jerk sounds like Well Intended Love. But while I think he ruined a project or even bought a company to control her career (and her entire life), she was an actor not a TV announcer and he used the fake cancer diagnosis to trick her into marrying him.

So there is more than one of these gems floating around dramaland.

Yeah, I knew it wasn't because I unfortunately remember the plot of WIL fairly well (god help me).

Why is doing horrible things and tricking a person into marriage even a thing... 💀

I think I saw WIL one episode and dropped it. Reading from the clue doesn’t make wanna pick it up again either. How jerk does one have to be to do something like that?

#1 might be the 2000 drama, “Secret”, starring Ha Ji Won, Kim Ha Neul, Kim Min Jong, and Ryu Si Won 🤔🤔

#3 is definitely “I Really, Really Like You”, starring Eugene Kim, and Lee Min Ki

Oh haha number 1! I submitted that request- I watched the first half of the drama like 11 years ago, but the subs were all out of sync and I didn’t know how to fix them at the time. I went looking for it later and couldn’t remember enough to identify it - it’s been bugging me for like 10 years 🥰.

I even started just watching the first episode or so of anything made before 2004 but hadn’t run into the right drama yet - but as soon as I saw the description for Secret, the whole “sister took ML place as real missing daughter” part REALLY rang a bell, so I’m 95% sure this is it, I just have to watch a little and see. Thanks!

Arrrgh unfortunately, it's not the drama. There is no shoe designing or stolen designs - looks like a fun old drama but not what I'm looking for

1

Aww and I thought #1 was the 2002 drama "Glass Slippers", with two sisters and of course, the title mentions shoes. You can give it a try though. 40 episodes of it.

half of it sounds like it is BLWL but remember that seola wants that marriage and he only ruined her career when they divorced.

btw i was so disappointed when seola still ended up with his toxic and childish ex-husband.

I agree the chaebol's stalking, harassing, bullying the older sister to marriage (and throughout the divorce) even though he was at fault was the worst story line in the series.

Number 4 could be The Greatest Marriage? It stars an anchor woman who is rivals with another announcer and she is dating a chaebol, she finds out she is pregnant and decides to raise the child on her own.

Way too new - that ones from 2018 - I first watched the drama in around 2009 and it was considered really old then. Also, it was between 16-30 ep in my memory.

But thanks!

Okay, it took me going through 22 pages of actors on My Drama List but I think I found #4, it’s Hateful But Once Again, made in 2009. Starring Jung Gyu Woon and Park Ye Jin.
Please respond if this is right! 😁

In Hateful But Once Again i don't remember it being that he ruined her career for the sake of marrying her. Him being a spoiled chaebol, i think he just wanted to mess with her or something like that at first but then his interest in her started growing? And then his mom played a big part in separating them? So if anything it would have been the mom who destroyed her career i think which then made Park yejin's character go after revenge? I vaguely remember it but i don't think it matches with the description in #4

I think #1 is Cinderella Man, from 2009, with Kwang Sang-Woo and Yoona. I don't remember what relation the second FM is, but the stolen shoe design is a major part of the plot. It's also kind of a Prince and the Pauper story, with KSW playing two parts, a rich chaebol and a guy who has a stall at a discount clothes mart.
It was a fun watch, if the plot was a bit unbelievable, and the tropes, oh, the tropes!
I think it's on Viki currently.
