Joo-won and Kim Hee-sun unravel time in new teaser for Alice
by tccolb
A new video teaser has been released for SBS’s upcoming sci-fi drama Alice, featuring Joo-won (My Sassy Girl), Kim Hee-sun (Room No. 9) and Kwak Shi-yang (Welcome 2 Life).
The drama is about a man and a woman who were separated by death. But are somehow brought together again, defying the conventional laws of time and space.
In this story, Joo-won stars as Park Jin-kyum. As a police officer who has difficulty feeling emotions, he often appears cold and aloof. But he carries great sadness from his past. He is one of the first to discover that there are people who can travel through time.
Kim Hee-sun will be playing two roles. The first is physicist Yoon Tae-yi, who is working on unraveling how time travel works. The second is a scientist from the future named Park Sun-young, who possesses the secret of time travel. It’s not yet known how the two characters are related to each other, but both will appear in the story at different ages (from their twenties to forties).
The teaser starts in a beautiful landscape with a car moving across a bridge. A woman speaks in voice-over, “Mom [referring to herself] will do anything if it’s for my Jin-kyum.” In a sequence of shots, we see Kim Hee-sun driving in car, getting hit by an egg, and crying next to Joo-won as she tries to clean the hate graffiti on their gateway. It cuts to Kwak Shi-yang aiming his gun and he asks, “Have you ever lost someone you love?” All of a sudden, a car explodes and we see a crying Joo-won who screams, “Mom!”
Cut to a text screen: “Another me who isn’t me.” In a sequence, Kim Hee-sun fights with someone while Joo-won and Kwak Shi-yang compete in a car chase. Joo-won explains in voice-over, “I became a police officer in order to catch the man who killed my mother. I’ve been agonizing over this for 10 years.” In a brief intercut, a woman says, “Suspending all disbelief, let’s say it is a doppelganger…” before returning to Kim Hee-sun who faces off with her other self. It cuts to a chaotic scene in a library where a man declares, “No matter what you do, you can’t catch up to us.” As Joo-won engages in a shoot-out, we hear a different man in voice-over, “One person’s future is another person’s past.”
It cuts to a text screen, which reads: “Stepping through time and space, they are coming.” In a determined voice, Kim Hee-sun says, “I can prove your existence.” As she speaks, we see a series of shots: two men fighting, Kim solving a math equation, and Kim standing with Joo-won by a carousel. The teaser comes to a close with Joo-won’s declaration, “I’m going to find her. And when I find her, I’m going to protect her.” As he speaks, we see Joo-won finally together with Kim Hee-sun and he embraces her in a hug.
When Kim Hee-sun says she can do anything for her Jin-kyum, that has to be a different incarnation to Joo-won’s character, right? On one hand, the two actors are only 10 years apart in age, on the other, there’s time travel involved so it could work. Since this is Joo-won’s post-military comeback, here’s hoping the show is a hit.
Directing for the drama is PD Baek Soo-chan (Reunited Worlds, Beautiful Gong Shim) and scripts will be penned by a team of writers: Kim Kyu-won, Kang Chul-kyu, and Kim Ka-young.
SBS sci-fi drama Alice is currently set to premiere on August 28 and will be broadcasting Fridays and Saturdays.

Omo Omo Omo Joo-woni. Pls be good show. Please bring back my Yongpal male lead. I tried so hard to convince myself that My Sassy Girl (2017) never existed.

Yongpal went downhill in the second half and you know it. Once the FL takes over the show, yongpal had nothing to do

I know but couldn’t help myself loving the second half also. I felt a bit bad for Joo Won, but given the state of his health at the time I think it was better to have the fl led the show in the second half. She had nearly nothing to do in the first half anyway.

The Radiohead teaser for this was aces. Bummer it's not used here. That being said, a mother-son bond than a romance is so much stronger and heart-wrenching. This is a pre-produced drama too!
I like both leads, both who have presence and are talented. Sci-fi K-dramas don't do so well ratings wise, and sometimes the writer fails at executing the idea full 100%. I hope it surprises us in a good way. Curious if it'll do well ratings wise hmm...

SBS!!! That means Kocowa, which means it won't be available legally elsewhere than US (viki licenses kocowa shows in only few other countries too). Low key hoping iqiyi takes it instead.
But... Random 1 am musings, how many people believe in time travel? The simpsons predictions make me think it is a legit thing.

I've been looking forward to this drama. I've missed Joo-won. He took a long time to choose a project. Here's hoping he picked a good one.
Good or bad, I don't expect it to do well in the ratings.

I hope he took his time to find a good drama.
But yes, dude was a well regarded/big tv star in the early to mid 2010s. I like him, and hope this goes well story/ratings wise.

Ho-hum, another time travel/doppelganger/noona romance (?) drama...as this show will overlap with Forest of Secrets 2 and Record of Youth, I will not have to pass this one up. Of course I would said the same thing if my only alternative was to chew on tinfoil while shaving my head with a cheese-grater.

She's a gorgeous timeless beauty! One thing, her role is the meatier one compared to the male lead. She has to play a 20, 30, and 40 year old in this show :O And she's a physics genius too!

i am not quite sure of romance aspect here they were very clear one of the hee sun's is his mom, so having romance with your mom's doppelganger .... i dont think it will sit well with the audience....so pleese drama..let it just be a thriller of time travel with a good mother son bond...starts praying
