Just 1-2 weeksa go i talked about how a non-vote is a protest in own right and for past few months we all are witnessing protests all around the world. Interesting time now and near future. At the centre of its still are cronies and capitalism. Few 1000s having resources at hand compered to several millions.

Once i read in commercial law - Corruption corrodes the society and whole system morally and ethically and leads to broken system of law. That's where all these nations at.
Stark inequality and rampant corruption leading to lose of moral character of executive.

Few politicians go and few other take their place and story remains the same. Unless you go for the reforms needed aka the strong bitter pills, things won't change. And human societies at large are pretty lousy in nature and feel secure or comfortable in mediocrity aka no change whatsoever.

Facemasks and more facemasks.

My first fanwall post on The Untamed was dated 27th August. I said I was still on the fence about it. Must have been a few episodes in. Now, it's November and I am still posting about The Untamed. What sorcery is this?

Sorry, I can't be of help. I need heeeeeeelpppppp!!!

I'm not really trying to get out of it. However I do try to inject other shows into my viewing time so that I'm not only watching stuff on The Untamed, or that are only related to it and to the actors.

I'm still mid-way through my re-watch... and very happy. 🤩 LOL.

Maybe let's look at it this way, @mayhemf, @outofthisworld, @shach, @growingbeautifully, @stpauligurl:

Why should we even consider moving on to other objects of affection when we have been shown what love and devotion can be in the purest form? I have found bliss in the worlds of MXTX and I have little time and patience for the next round of drama speed dating.

What is couple months of grand demonic obsession compare to 16 years of unanswered inquiries? <i<The Untamed, I am happily engaging in the drama monogamy.....at least for the foreseeable future! (I am no Lan Zhan after all 😅)

I still love this drama as whole, but I think I'm here only for the drama with this set of actors because I have no interest in novel itself, I'm really not digging BL stories, too problematic for me, and although I still love all this fangirling on Beanies fanwall I started noticing through the gifs how green behind the ears XZ is as an actor, I guess on-screen charisma doesn't translate onto gifs and my glasses are loosing it's pink lustre ;) So it's different for everybody I think.

Required fields are marked *

Oh I've said this since the beginning. XZ does a good job embodying and becoming WWX and he has some excellent moments of acting. But he still had awkward acting moments throughout the drama. You can tell he is still newer to acting. My mom (who started watching before me) had even mentioned to me originally that he wasn't the greatest actor. But as the drama progressed she was saying he was getting much better. I don't think his acting changed, I just think it was just the drama and his on-screen charisma that changed her mind.

But overall I can't see anyone else as WWX.

6
3
reply

Required fields are marked *

I agree. I feel that he came to embody the character so well that whatever he did as WWX felt OK. I definitely like him as the character, and as a person, I like the personality that comes through in his interviews or in the BTS. I have to see if his acting is OK or great in the latest modern drama.

However XZ's smile has won my heart for now! (I'm fickle that way!) Like I said on my fan wall, I just want to see his face!! 😁

4

Absolutly, he has mad on screen charisma and this drama is pure TV magic that rarely happens.

1

Yes I did find his acting awkward initially but I warmed up to it. There were scenes where it mattered he really delivered. So am sure it’s only a matter of time.
I think he does much better in emotional scenes than in the comedy scenes.

2

Do you come out of it? Is that possible? I finished the drama about the end of August and I am still stuck in The Untamed.

Spamming the fanwall, watching BTS and looking up images has helped. I also have already rewatched the drama and read the novel, and then went and read the authors other novel and just started another of her novels! You can also watch the anime and listen to the audio drama.

Welcome to the Beanies Untameables!

I’m going to say, as long as you don’t start a rewatch, or start listening to the audio book, or start reading the novel, the longing for the continuation of these character’s stories will eventually end *fingers crossed* (I’m doing all three at the same time so.... for me it’ll still be a few months I guess)

I was wondering if and when Crash Landing of Love was going to do any official promotion before its premiere. The general premise has been panned by critics. The cast started filming in Switzerland, Mongolia and Jeju Island which led to the conclusion that the series may be more visuals than substance. Then Netflix picked up the series, calling it a "Wizard of Oz" style story. Huh? Now, we have two teasers. The first one was SYJ and HB melo-dramatic poses in the Swiss backdrop. The second one was a campy-goofy first meeting where SYJ literally falls onto HB's arms after her paraglide crash. Is the show going to be a drama, a travel adventure or comedy? I do not know but the previews predict it may be a mess.

Like many dramas, it will probably lure us in with fun and silly antics before getting all angsty. I mean, you cannot have Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin in a drama and not make them cry.

Plus it’s a romance across the DMZ, so it’s bound to hurt. *adds tissues to supermarket list*

Is it gonna be on Netflix? Idk I actually liked both teasers even if they don't correlate at all. Maybe I'm really curious of the two leads chemistry which are "rumored" to be dating for so long already.

From the official Netflix press release:
SEOUL, October 21, 2019 - Netflix Inc., the world’s leading Internet entertainment service, announced that a Korean romantic comedy series Crash Landing on You (Korean title: 사랑의 불시착) will launch globally later this year.

Starring two of the most popular Korean actors Hyun Bin (Memories of the Alhambra, Secret Garden) and Son Ye-jin (Something in the Rain, A Moment to Remember) as the main cast, Crash Landing on You is a love story of an oddly-matched couple. Yoon Se-ri, played by Son Ye-jin, is a beautiful heiress and a leading fashion businesswoman in South Korea, and she meets North Korean military officer Lee Jung-hyeok, played by Hyun Bin, when she is swept up by a wind storm and accidentally crashes in North Korean territory while paragliding.

Jung-hyeok’s life has been nothing but great so far and he has a bright future ahead of him. His self confidence, which stems from his elite and prestigious background, makes him a man of principle and no-compromise. For Se-ri, her life in the South is even better, almost as good as that of a royal family. She has her family’s wealth and successful business of her own. But the unexpected accident happens, turning her life completely upside down. No one in North Korea obviously gets her.

Although Jung-hyeok and Se-ri find the situation equally absurd, they begin to have feelings for each other in spite of themselves, given that Jung-hyeok is the only one to hide and protect Se-ri from authorities in the North.

Like Dorothy who meets the Wizard of Oz by accident, or like the pilot who meets the little prince by crash landing in a desert, Crash Landing on You depicts how an endless cycle of luck, destiny and beautiful stories can begin from unlikely and unexpected misfortunes, bad luck, and crash landings.

Happy Friday dear Beanies!

This week has been good and bad- good because I got some unexpected good news today but bad because I went out and walked for about 15-20 min on Wed and ended up with awful aching shoulders and since then I can’t sit or eat at the table without pain. Can’t rush this recovery it seems. :(

2 things to update on the drama front:

Finished Graceful Family- LOVED IT. so insane and OTT and bonkers but so CRACKY! Haha. Love the heroine so much. So. Bad. Ass. With a heart of gold. The best kind!

Am super conflicted about Tale of Nokdu because -SPOILER- if Yul Moo really is King Injo- it means that unless they hugely deviate from history, he will end up being crowned King, over throwing Nokdu’s true father (the current King)?? and there is little chance of Dong Joo and Nokdu getting their Happily Ever After??? Meaning I have to also suffer through 7 more hours of his smirking face?!?

*sigh*
Say it isn’t so!!!! What I love about youth saeguks is usually the Happily Ever After, no? I mean I signed up for cross dressing hijinks and while I got those and they were great, and I even got a kiss between Nokdu and Yul-moo- this HARDLY will compensate me for all the FRUSTRATION I feel everytime Yul-moo smirks. Bah!

Ok rant over.

Maybe I need to pick up something new. Extraordinary You has been highly recommended and at least in that I can be sure I won’t have smirking bad guys? Right? 😬

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hi @michykdrama, 😊
I was saying in the post (on your blog) that got eaten up that I hoped you'd slowly recuperate your strength and endurance before heading back to work. It's hard to get back to be standing for a long stretch or walking great lengths (hospitals are big buildings) after being off your feet for weeks.

I've been so sedentary now for a long time, so that I can no longer stand for long or even squat comfortably, although I hear that's a great posture for one's back.

Take it slow and take care now!

2

I agree with you on EY. As a much older viewer and that means I am quite jaded, I am not so keen on watching a happy sugar coated school love life. I rather want to watch BK's agony and how he can handle with love triangle ( and his family issue)where he seems to have no hope at all.
I also find there are some plot holes and I have questions that I dare not to say cause it would ruin other viewers who has not watched recent eps. I do hope that the writer will explain why on earth Haru has gained some sort of super power and will not disappoint viewers with unexplainable series of events.

EY: Think last 4 episodes should have been compressed to 3 to move the story forward more. Am actually keen to find out more re. aspects of the comic world rather than just moon over DO-HR. Eg NJ’s mother’s role in the historical manhwa, what BK’s brother knows. Am actually sorry for BK. He’s suddenly become aware that all he’s been living has been a lie - he’s been forced to suffer abuse from his father & have an unhappy family life for no reason other than to fulfill a comic plot. The one thing he could count on was DO’s unwavering love/devotion to him but now discovers it was all fake & he is being unsurped by HR. BK may be a jerk, partly cos he’s written that way but also cos he’s a lonely boy, brought up in an unhappy home unlike DO. He’s lashing out in the only way he knows how given his character & upbringing. I hope drama would explore more of BK’s backstory including what his brother knows.

Hi Everyone and Happy OT! And Happy All Saints Day as well!

I'm missing those days when I could recover from illness and feel really well. But now, 2 weeks after so-called 'recovering', I'm still feeling stuffed up and coughing suddenly. Not sick enough to take time off work and not well enough to be energetic. 🤧

On the show watching front, I find I've moved on to watching more short YT videos, interviews, BTS and reviews, which I seldom used to do before. It's been quite a change for me. One plus point is that I don't necessarily end up investing hours on just one drama, but we all know the scary rabbit hole that starting with 1 short, little video clip can suck us into!!!

Another plus point is that I'm learning more stuff about show making, about how to do better reviews or to know what to look out for in a show, and I've begun to be more open to other kinds of shows as well, that I never thought I'd want to get into.

What I am enjoying still in kdramas are Camellia, Pegasus Market and now Catch the Ghost. After the more angsty feels of Camellia, I really need the lighter tones of the other 2 shows. I'm hoping for/looking forward to getting more clues for Camellia so that I can play along with the investigation... also of course, I'm hoping the characters who should be great friends, do end up more united rather than less.

In Pegasus which I can only watch subbed on Sunday, I think, I'm so eager for the market to take down all its naysayers, and I'm wondering what other dances/antics the show is going to make Bok Dong do. Last week's dance number in tights was to die for!

Catch the Ghost is another crime investigation drama that I'll be happy to be allowed to play along in mystery solving with, if only we could get more clues as to the criminal or criminals. Are Grasshopper and Ghost, 2 different individuals or one and the same? I'm thinking they are different, and wishing we'd be given more data about them.

Have a great weekend everyone and here's 🥂 to better health for all! 😃

I too was not the kind to try anything other that watching the dramas and reading recaps/reviews cause I never felt like it. But once I started watching the BTS and interviews I realized it's actually quite fun. I also like watching humour vids people make of dramas I watch If I can find them.
I know very well how emotionally draining some shows can be so for every melo or serious stuff I watch, I watch at least 3 or more comedies or rom-coms before I start watching something serious again. Though ever since I started live watching i have been watching both kinds at the same time now. So now I always rewatch funny parts of shows I have already watched.

@amy1009 Ah, getting into BTS and interviews are just too much fun. Even without my being able to understand much, just watching the celebrities react or be more their natural selves is so much fun.

On and off I do the same... ie live watch a couple of shows and watch some happy bits of completed shows. I've moved also into watching completed cdramas that are more likely to not be too angsty, since the reviews are already out. However I'm risking one that I think will turn terrible in the 2nd half ... The Legends, because I like the early set up of the kids.

Melting Me Softly was a 'guilty pleasure' to watch until I began to note the look of despair in the actors' eyes. Then it just became sad. There's a distinct sense now of '6 episodes left, lets just get through this and walk away'.

Happy weekend Beanies!

Nanowrimo, or the failed new year resolution of November in my case, starts today. Rather than deluding myself yet again that I will finally turn my historical plot into a novel, I have decided to settle for just writing as much and as often as possible. My friend is also participating and we will have some writing sessions together during weekends, so that alone should break my record from the previous editions. I started writing horrible fanfiction as a teenager, but real life eventually got in the way, and I sort of gave up because I never got any further than writing some plot ideas and drabbles. The weekly Open Thread posts however, made me realize how much I actually enjoy reflecting on my week on Fridays and then creating a post out of my reflection. The fan walls and monthly themes as a result, are no longer safe. :P I would like to extend that joy outside of Dramabeans and just drabble on. Who knows…

Reading is the other side of that coin, so I am also challenging myself to get out of my reading slump. I got a Roald Dahl book collection and some Jane Austen works as a belated birthday gift from my friends last week, and I finally started reading Pride & Prejudice today. My bookcase has not collapsed yet, and it never will, because I will never buy books again…ahem. :P

The challenges are necessary, because I also did not do much job hunting this week. I have had bad days and even bad weeks, but I cannot help but be disappointed in myself for letting it go on another week. There were some unforeseen appointments and my parents needed some help caring for the sick god siblings, but the remaining time I felt as listless as I did last week. I do hope November will bring me more diligence and structure.

Extraordinary You does provide some structure, because I am still fangirling and obediently finishing my episodes and fan wall posts by the end of the weekend. ;) Unfortunately the obsession has toned down a bit since I finished marathoning the first half last week. But if Dan-Oh can change her set-up, then so can I! :D

All the best in the diligence arena. I'd like to call it job-hunting slump. Heh!

I guess the only way to get past it is to just do a couple of job applications and slowly build up steam. The time of the year might be favourable too ... in my part of the world, many people wait for the year-end bonus and then quit. So job opportunities may open up as the new year approaches. I'm not sure if it's at all similar at your end.

All the best and have fun not working yet!! 😁

It might be the time of the year indeed....anyway the lack of diligence is the real issue. I do not mind focusing on fun stuff whenever job-hunting goes wrong, because at least in that case I am diligently enjoying myself! ;) Seems like even pressing play and turning pages are hard nowadays :(

*clears throat* National Novel Writing Month. Writers, (professional or hobby), challenges themselves to write a novel of 50,000 words throughout the month of November. I call it a (failed) new year's resolution, because many writers (myself included) vow to accomplish that challenge, and yet fail to do so. ;)

I am also telling myself to read more and while it took some time I also started on a few new books. Let’s encourage one another. 😊

Good luck with the job search and don’t be too hard on yourself. Next week is a brand new week! Hwaiting!!! 💪

MY life is very unstable, my friends are so unbalanced. Guess I need to be strong by myself no matter what. cant rely on pople who are too weak to handle me.

maybe that is the reason I watched some drama lately as well. I watched Extraordinary you and realised at least I have a choice how to live my life. I have myself. But I guess we all feel sometimes that we have no control over our lives....
It kind of helps.

Good morning,

Happy All Saint’s Day. My oldest son does not want to get up and go to school. In another word, today is half day and there is mass. I told him to buckle up and get moving. He was coughing and say he is sick. 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄😑 I told you are fine last night and going out with your friend for Halloween and you slept late. You are totally fine. My youngest son went out last night too. However, he was fine and get a ready without a fuse. Sometimes, I wonder if my boys change in order. My youngest son seem the more mature then my oldest son. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I am very proud of my daughter as se went out and enjoy her Halloween with her father. Last year, she only went for an hour. Last night, she went a lil bit further and get a lot more candies and did not get scared of Haunted House. 💗

As for Chinese Drama, thank goodness, I finished Nine Kilometers of Love. I do not even understand the last episode. But, glad at least, I finished it. I can not wait to watch Love Hypnotic. I read he sleepwalking and that is the funny part. Also, he look like Hyun Bin.

For Korean dramas, I am behind of all three Nokdu, Extraordinary You and Gracefully Family.

This morning, my friend and her son is coming over at my house. She is totally stress out and I put the croissant in the oven and have coffee made so we can hang out and have the kids play together.

P.S. Peaky Blinders like always was such a great show. I am looking forward to season 6. I am so happy Tom Hardy is back. 💗
P.S.S. Anyone watched Treadstone of USA network. I recognize the guy as he was in Sense 8 and HHJ. Is it good?

My favourite on your list :
The package All the story happens in France and not only in Paris. As a person who really like the France, I think they really did good to show this country. There is a lot of humor but the people stories are pretty touching.

Girls gen 1979 I think the area is pretty interesting and those girls trying to find hapiness was pretty lovely to watch :) The OST is great !

One spring night It's a slow story about people but I really liked it. The PD is really great to picture intimacy but without using too much zoom. The actors were great.

Live It made me discover Bae Sung Woo. He was so good in this role.

Children of nobody Not an easy story with children as victim. But for once I really like the police and the ways they investigated. Lee Yi Kyung was great in a serious role. Kim Sun Ah was great as usual.

Adding to what @kurama suggests ... I can recommend:
Strongest Delievery Man for a great feel good, warm story and likable leads and 2nd leads.

Secret Life of My Secretary for ridiculous and hilarious scenes, and a romance one can really get behind.

Terrius for the sweet kids and So Ji Sub being so great with them. Also for the opportunity to slime the spy industry in this show LOL. It was fun.

The Guest for intense and scary evil spirit possession but really more for the exorcism scenes and the team that came together to defeat that particular evil. You need to be able to watch blood letting though.

I loved Children of Nobody as well. The other shows, I either didn't watch, can't recall much to say about them, or feel some negativity towards, which I find hard to put a finger on ... so I'm not saying anything about them. 😏

I loved the acting and cinematography of Bad Papa but it had very cruel fight scenes. I couldn't go past a few episodes.

My Fellow Citizens and Two Cops are 2 of my favorites. I rewatch them a lot and love them every time.

20th Century and Jugglers bored me to no end. I ff'ed the last few episodes just to finish them off.

Disliked and dropped Happy to Die midway. Same with One Spring Night.

Strongest Deliveryman and Terrius were both very sweet and lovely.

Witch's court was nothing special. Watched, finished and forgot about it.

Deserving of the Name is one of my most favorite shows ever.

I finished Fiery Priest but didn't like it.

I live-watched the last few episodes of Children of Nobody, that is probably why I didn't like the ending. The waiting and guessing and theorizing is not for me.

I LOVED welcome to life. It was such a lovely classic kdrama.

Whatever you do, don’t watch ARTHDAL CHRONICLES, unless you’re willing to ruin your eyesight by watching dark murky images, tear out your hair at the frustrating slow pace, and throw your laptop when it actually “ends”.

Out of your list I recommend:

ARE YOU HUMAN TOO?: I’m not into robot dramas but this one had heart and lots of twists and turns that kept me invested until the end. And a great OST.

GIRLS GENERATION 1979: Short, only 8 episodes, so it’s not a bit investment of time. I liked to see a story set outside Seoul for a change.

Well, the main problem is the story did not really end and the production surprised everyone by announcing it’s actually intended to have 2 more seasons (for a total of 54 episodes). That left a very bad taste in my mouth. Maybe the complete drama will be better than this stunted “first” season, but I doubt it.

My favourite on your list is: Perfume! Imo, it told a beautiful story in an entertaining and unique way and never lost it laughter until the end. It was layered and the writer managed to include so many literature/song references that reflects the characters thoughts. Many2 kudos to the writer, director, cast, crew and everyone else involved in this very underated gem, a 10/10 for the message it had, the acting, cinematography, books, poems, songs, classical music, blues music, art and many more.

Heads up if you have plans to watch it, ep 1-2 was off-kilter and weirdish but is with reason and everything that happens is addressed throughout the series. It's not a perfect drama, it does have minor loopholes, ups and downs...but overall it was an awesome ride and the ending was splendid.

@katakwasabi is right about episodes 1 and 2 of Perfume. They are rough, but after you see the whole drama you realize that they are rough for a reason. So, if they leave you a bit shaken, know that the show isn't just doing what they do for shocks and laughs. I do wish more people had stuck it out to see and understand this, but if you have any questions or want to chat about it, I'm sure Katak and I will be willing to indulge.

What a list! Secret life of my secretary is my favorite rom-com this year! Watch it now! Mr Sunshine was EXCELLENT, but sometimes got draggy. But probably the best acted and most beautiful of all historical dramas on that list. LIVE was also excellent but for very different reasons—a hard, gritty watch, but entirely worth it. Touch your heart was just adorable and the reunion of SUNny and Reaper Kim. 20th century boy girl holds a very special place in my heart that I actually wrote and co-wrote two DB articles about it! Without too many sp0ilers, you can read why. http://www.dramabeans.com/2018/01/in-defense-of-20th-century-boy-and-girl-when-you-dont-want-to-ride-a-roller-coaster/

http://www.dramabeans.com/2018http://www.dramabeans.com/2018/03/best-friends

I’ve got One Spring Night on hold, it starts out pretty slow, so I’m having difficulties continuing.

Some ones you’re missing that were good: A Poem A Day, 30 but 17, and to.Jenny. To.Jenny was only 2 episodes. And Hwayugi was watchable until the last 2 episodes for me. Some others really liked it though.

And I’m watching My Country and The Untamed! Both are excelling every way for me.

I don’t waste my time on any drama I don’t like; maybe my tastes are similar to yours.

Hi beanies, wow Nov 1, how? But I like the month of November, it’s a sort of kickoff to holidays and birthdays and wearing boots (I love them) and puffer coats. I watched a lot of dramas this week:

Lies Within , watching ep 3 now.

VIP – I am especially impressed with Jang Nara and I’ve grown to like Lee Sang Yoon from Master in the House. The 0 episode of VIP is well done and makes for a good intro to how the drama will proceed. Definitely a no nonsense drama, Office Melo, I think it’s referred to.

When the Camilla Blooms, sometimes I forget this is a murder mystery.

My Country, The New Age is good but I watch with eyes squinted tight because I’m hopelessly sympathetic toward angry Seon Ho whose hands are tied, and you know, it can’t go well for him, can it? Ugh, kings and their lousy non-parenting skills have ruined kingdoms since forever. Jang Hyuk isn’t the lead, supposedly, but he dominates as Yi Bang Won. His disgruntled palace yelling is the champion of the worst mannered princes. Hwi is running around in there all the time getting beat up right and left by, well, everyone. I dunno how this will end, but I fear they all won’t be left standing.

I’m looking forward to Chief of Staff part 2 in a couple of weeks.

And of course, New Journey to the West 7 started up with P. O., MINO, and Kyuhyun who is back! Ji Won somehow makes a great Gandalf, definitely the best costume.

I love The Manager, it’s the best showcase of behind the scenes managers for celebrities who practically all get offers after being on the show, like Tei’s manager who is quite the model.

Loved the clip of G Dragon greeting his fans upon his military release. The place had been changed the day before but still 3000 VIP fans found their way to the location to meet him. He was touched and wiped away a tear or two. Welcome back!

Happy weekend!

I was meaning to ask for some drama recommendations today. But I realized I am satisfied with all the currently airing dramas I am watching and somehow have four dramas in my to watch list all 50ish episodes. Would be my first attempt at long dramas when I do start to watch them.
It's been only a week since I started commenting on dramabeans so-
Pros of being on dramabeans-
1. Being able to talk about my favorite shows.
2. Having other's relate to and being able to relate to other's comments.
3. Reading about opinions different from my own.
Cons: Too much time spent on DB :)

I am also one month into live watching:
Pros of Watching currently airing shows:
1. Trying out different shows I probably wouldn't have watched of different types.
2. Having a balance between watching both serious and light/funny shows.
Con- Not having time to binge watch or watch older shows.

In short I am having fun.

I used to read like crazy but due to watching Kdramas I have lost interest in both reading and watching anything other than kdramas cause I keep on comparing everything with them.

While watching Extraordinary You and Catch the ghost I wonder if I am being too harsh on Eun Dan Oh for crying and Yu Ryung for bring reckless.

Catch the ghost: I got turned off when he got the loan. Am not sure if i'm in for the loan shark ride because i just know conflicts will come up.
My Country: the gravitas! the manes of glory! The tragic hottie bromance! The quiver full of arrows and the long long lances! Oh i could go on, but i love this drama~! But why the vengeance board on a wall in a cottage? Shouldn't a vengeance board be hidden in a secret room?
Lies Within: I started liking this when i saw the vengeance board. So many vengeance boards, so little time.
Extraordinary You: I love Baek Kyung so much. Give me a troubled and rich bad boy and i'm all in.
Pegasus Market: This drama cracks me up so much
Camellia: I didn't have the strength for the angst after the murder. Still have to see the new episodes.
Tale of Nokdu: I still have to catch up. I feared noble idiocy.

That's about it. Have a great weekend, all.

the gravitas! the manes of glory!

You had me at "manes of glory." Haven't started My Country yet but looking forward to screen time with Jang Hyuk, one of my favorite ahjussis.

Regarding your prepping, what have you done for back-up water? I just realized we've got a few days of drinking water but nothing for washing up. In 20 years, we've never lost power for more than 1 hour so we don't have a backup generator. I might regret that some day but there are so many other things we need to fix ...

I'm in albany beside a park. i figure we have to have firewood if anything. I got a mini wood burning stove, led battery operated mobility detection lights, snow rake, cleats for ice, doggie diapers so we don't have to put the dog out, hand cranked lamp, solar charger, sleeping bags, etc. Tons of socks, leggings, etc. Just stuff to keep warm. I hate the cold.

I have tons of juices -- beet juice, guanabano, coconut, etc and only two large gallons of water and a water purifier. I figure we will have snow galore to melt.

Is there a report that your Winter could get particularly bad or do you just stock up and prep in case, every year?

Despite the humidity, haze and some random storms, and maybe ad hoc but not over the top flooding, I feel pretty fortunate to be living in my particular neck of Southeast Asia.

I've got to wait for Pegasus to be subbed... it's lower in the subbing priority list. It's what I look forward to on my Sunday mornings!! 😀

Yup. Lots and lots of acorns on the ground in the Northeast, as though the squirrels are going to seriously need to stock up. On the other hand, we still haven't had a frost -- it's crazy late for that.

Happy Friday Beanies!

This week has been a tough one for me. My roommate is driving me bananas which I realise may be part of her strategy to get me to move out. I may need to invest in earplugs soon if my landlord doesn't talk to her. I haven't shared a room since high school when I was at boarding school and now I remember why I hated it. At times like this I wish I was a bit more confrontational but I just hate drama if it's not on tv. I know I'll survive this because I've survived worse but it just sucks sometimes 🥺😢.

Anyway onto dramas because they've kept me sane. I was trying to figure out why Pegasus Market appeals to me so much (because I will look for any excuse not to study for my quizzes) and I realised it reminds me of the US tv show Chuck which is one of my favorite shows of all time minus the last episode. The classic underdog story with a store full of oddballs. I love underdogs and I'm an oddball myself so I identify with the weirdos at the market.

Someone commented earlier in the week I think, that Melting me softly should be renamed Killing me softly. Now the song keeps playing in my head while I'm watching the show. Not that I think the show's killing me softly. Nope. Not. At. All. Fun times.

I really want to watch My Country because I'm enjoying the recaps but I'm still mad at them for doing the flashfoward at the beginning. Just start at the start Show!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

This is by far the best recommendation for Pegasus Market that I've seen, CHUCK is (captain) Awesome! I just started a rewatch a couple of weeks ago. I have no idea where my dvds are in my moving mayhem so I've been checking the discs out one at a time from the library!
And if you ever want a roommate horror story---just let me know. Give me a topic and I can go on for hours. Ive lived with some truly questionable people. In some truly horrible places. Murder Sheds have been involved.

😱murder sheds??? Ok I think I'm doing well then. She's not there yet. I would love some stories actually. Topics are Dirty roommate and Loud roommate as well as creepy roommate(has a mug?with the clown from IT facing me and she was watching some show where they were calling people from the beyond. I don't watch horror so this is freakin me out major).

Also, I have to find somewhere to watch Chuck because Pegasus is making me nostalgic.

Lets see, lets see.
Firstly, sorry I'm putting on my storytelling hat so late. Its been yeah, quite the week in libraryland. But. I've got tales.

Dirty Roommate. This can also slide right on in to creepy roommate (although its more her father than her---but if you think too hard about that then it becomes sad and horrifying and lets all get therapy).

Oh, lets start lighter. I had a roommate in college. She was about 10 years older than everyone else in our apartment (there were 8 of us sharing a 5 bedroom 3 bath apartment.) She stayed because she was convinced she'd be able to convince her boyfriend to marry her any day now and she had a private bedroom/bath. Plus the rent was dirt cheap. For her room and bathroom it was something like 60 bucks a month. Dirt cheap. One day she decided she was going to make some rice and her dude called her last minute, she left the rice cooking because she thought it would be a quick conversation. She came back 3 days later--still unmarried, bitter and thisclose to a breakup. I believe she spent some of those 3 days telling the soon to be ex about how neither of them were virgins. SCANDAL!
The rest of us sharing that apartment didn't know what to do with her rice cooker. So...in all the wisdom of our youth, we left it there. After a week or more of the rice sitting there (it never dawned on her to clean it up after she came home) some of the roommates and myself came home to find her sitting on the coach eating popcorn that she sprinkled with seaweed (made it taste like creamed corn somehow) and we finally said...um, excuse me. What are your plans with that rice cooker? She went, OH! Totally forgot! And scooted up and into the kitchen, popped off the lid, stirred the moldy mess inside, asked us if we thought the moving stuff was maggots TOOK A BITE, shrugged, threw the whole thing away and whipped out a brand new rice cooker from her bedroom like this was such a common occurrence that she stockpiled them.
Hmm....another GROSS roommate. I had a roommate who, well honestly, she was probably suffering from depression. But she was worried that she was getting lazy and the laziness was going to make her fat so she got a dog. Her theory was if she had a dog she would have to take care of it. Except that she didnt. She kept the dog locked in her room where it proceeded to eat her used sanitary napkins, yak them up, then eat them again. Use the restroom all over everything INCLUDING her bed. And she NEVER cleaned up after him. Not even her bed. She'd just sleep on the side of the bed not covered in fecal matter. When we were evicted from that apartment (thankfully my name was not on the lease) I heard later that the apartment complex couldn't just hire someone to clean that room. They had to rip up the carpeting down to the studs of the floor--replace a great deal of the floor itself, and the walls because the smell had gotten into the walls. From what I recall the whole apartment...

From what I recall the whole apartment wasn't liveable for like a year after we left.

Hmmm.... Oh, one more for messy. They are the easiest tales to tell. My roommate last year she says that shes not a hoarder but the definition of hoarder would probably be enough proof to be all...yeah, you are. There is not a space in her house that isnt feet high of nonsense. There are mice, bugs (a bug took up residence in one of my good bras! IT LAID AN EGG IN MY RIGHT BRA CUP! It so wigged me out that even after washing it half a dozen times I never could wear it again. I tossed it away) After I moved in with her (desperation, my friend, makes us make some hardcore questionable choices) she way lying on the couch in the living room (she had taken the stuff on the couch and arranged it on the floor as it had no place to go) and as she was lying there she kept sniffing and saying that she smelled something. Eventually she lifted up the couch cushions and realized that she was lying on just...a field a mouse droppings and so much urine that she could smell it through the cushion. Instead of cleaning it? She flipped the cushions around, put a blanket over it to distance herself slightly from the smell and LAID BACK DOWN. She didnt clean it for another month or so.

I dont have any loud roommate stories. I always just put on my headphones so that doesnt really bother me. I guess there are some topics I dont have a story for! The closest I've got is: my dad is a pretty tall guy, 6.5 feet tall. Because he's so tall when he has to go to the bathroom its a looooong way down. And the walls are thin and I could HEAR him every single time he had to pee. And at the time he was on a med that made him have to go to the bathroom 50 kajillion times a night. I started listening to white noise to block the sound.

🤣🤣🤣 oh my gosh. Also air hug. I think I've been complaining too much because while my situation is bad it's not as bad as witnessing the eating maggot-infested rice mukbang or mice droppings in the couch. Desperation just sucks. It's made me live with some pretty messed up people over the years.

Now anytime she does something I'm going to come back here and feel better. Thank you

They have left DB (but I don’t think permanently) and have a new editor @stroopwafel! They’re working. Girlfriday is doing something with Netflix from what I remember. Javabeans posts on twitter occasionally on what she’s watching.

Last night I caught the film 'Parasite' on its first night in my local (U.S.) theater. A rainy Thursday night (and Halloween to boot) but the theater was full. I had half an urge to call out to the audience "If you liked this, y'all should'a seen Lee Sun-kyun in 'My Ajusshi'!

Beanies, it’s only been a week or so since we have moved into cooler weather reminiscent of Fall, but my hands are already cracked, I’m congested from my first cold, my throat is itchy, and I’m almost a lighting girl from all the static I carry around me. How are all of you farring?

@pbnjelly513 I hope you get over your cold soon! It's tough in climates where there's Autumn/Winter. I don't have those seasons where I am but we keep getting influenza. I'm recovering from 1 bout.

What can you do to reduce the static? I guess you need lots of moisturizer for the skin and lots of water to keep the throat from drying out. Take care!

Thank you @growingbeautifully! To be honest, we don’t really see the seasons where I live either. It just suddenly went from having a warm night to having a cool night and that was enough for me to start bringing out my sweaters, hehe. I went for a walk the other day and almost overheated with my sweater. I left the house at around 60F and an hour later it was almost 80F.
Being sick is not fun at all! I hope you feel better as well and take care of yourself!

You need to put some humidity back into the air around you. If not a humidifier, then even a pot of boiling water or the steamy air from a shower can help.

My hubby and son love horror movies, so every Halloween they have a marathon. Dear Reader: I am a scaredy cat who watched most of Master's Sun covering my eyes, which is a talent when you also have to read subtitles.

So this weekend I was reluctantly dragged into a Stephen King Netflix binge, and a documentary on possessions. I did watch Zombieland, which was fun.

But now I can't sleep so I am downstairs with all the lights on and watching vagabond because I am 100% sure it has no ghosts.

Do you like horror movies? What is your scare threshold?

I DON'T like horror movies. I don't even like battle scenes in non-horror movies. I don't tune in to be scared or creeped out or to see people die a bloody death. I won't watch zombies. My threshold might be even lower than yours. (And btw, I hate roller coasters.) At the same time, I DO really like psychological thrillers, like Forest of Secrets, Confession, and Watcher.

I believe I regret watching any horror with very ugly, painful killing scenes or torture. Those horrible images remain in the memory and play in the mind for weeks. Therefore I FFD/opt out when I think there's going to be gratuitous violence or pain-inducing stuff.

I was able to take the scary and somewhat but not entirely bloody The Guest, so that may be my threshhold. I admit to closing my eyes each time they were about to poke their eye. 😱 😲 😉
