Premiere Watch: Clean With Passion for Now, Boyfriend, Memories of the Alhambra

Some of the year’s most anticipated dramas premiere this week and I have my fingers crossed that the shows will exceed expectations.

Clean With Passion for Now

Time slot: Monday & Tuesday
Broadcaster: JTBC
Genre: Rom-com
Episode count: 16 episodes

Reasons to watch: Adapted from a webtoon drama of the same name, Clean With Passion for Now follows Kim Yoo-jung as she finds a job at a cleaning company — despite being a total slob who doesn’t care about cleanliness. Yoon Kyun-sang is the germaphobe CEO of said cleaning company who is both appalled by and drawn to Kim Yoo-jung. A true odd couple pairing, they may be polar opposites but that doesn’t stop them from developing feelings for each other. Song Jae-rim also stars as the mysterious occupant of a rooftop apartment.

Boyfriend

Time slot: Wednesday & Thursday
Broadcaster: tvN
Genre: Noona romance
Episode count: 16 episodes

Reasons to watch: The A-list pairing of Song Hye-gyo and Park Bo-gum has fans all a-flutter in anticipation of their first project together. Song Hye-gyo plays a rich, divorced single mom whose life of privilege hasn’t quite translated into a life full of happiness and fulfillment. By chance, during a trip to Cuba, she and Park Bo-gum cross paths and develop a relationship. Park is young, poor, and still getting a foothold in life but his happy, carefree attitude has a profound impact on Song Hye-gyo. Can their love endure whatever obstacles fate throws their way?

Memories of the Alhambra

Time slot: Saturday & Sunday
Broadcaster: tvN
Genre: Fantasy, sci-fi, romance
Episode count: 16 episodes

Reasons to watch: Brought to us by the director of Forest of Secrets and the writer of W-Two Worlds and Nine, this show has all the makings of a great blockbuster. Hyun Bin is the CEO of an investment firm who visits Granada, Spain with a mission — He wants to purchase the hostel that Park Shin-hye’s character owns and operates. Hyun Bin’s desire for the hostel seems to revolve around his main reason for being in the city: a high-tech augmented reality game that involves knights, swords, and guns. The two get swept up in a strange event that sends them on a journey that begins in Granada.

They're all cable dramas. Sigh. Here's hoping that they get subbed or get picked up by Netflix or something.

What's with cable dramas? I felt like it was more the actors popularity that would intervene with subbing. I'm not sure though.
Anyway, with these actors, I can hardly see a problem.

MoA is picked up by Netflix.
No idea for the other two but I'm sure either Viki or Viu will pick them up.

It seems like it will be available for the Americas as I see episode 1 coming out tomorrow--it actually says today but I know they mean tomorrow. I guess we'll have to wait and see to confirm, but I think we'll be alright.

sorry, got a little lost trying to follow this. are you seeing this on Viki for the US?

1

@anothernicole as you may have found out by now, yes, it is available on Viki in the US.

3

Boyfriend IS available on Viki- and the first episode is 100% subtitled (at least for English) I have just watched the first few minutes and then took a break to report in. Please note that on Viki it is titled "Encounter"- but the program notes do say that "Boyfriend" is its alternate title.

I never get Noona and much younger man pairing (I dropped What's Up Fox. I'm sorry Chun Jung Myung. I love you, but I can't..), BUT... I have irrational fondness for Song Hye-gyo. So I probably will check it just to watch her then drop it after a half episode.
I feel most excited with Alhambra. I'm not a fan of the actors but I always enjoy the writer's works. I hope Alhambra will live up to my expectation.

This! The combo writer-director is quite a pull for Alhambra but then again, I was not really sold by the teasers and other promotional materials.

I was not interested in the least for this drama and then I saw the writer and followed by the trailer. Let’s just say this shot up to my most anticipated drama!

3
reply

Required fields are marked *

I must be one of the few persons but seeing these actors names doesn't automatically mean starting the drama for me.
For now, the synopsis doesn't draw me in, I'll certainely wait for the reviews before watching any of them. .. Or maybe I'll start Memories of the Alhambra? 🤔 The plot seems fresh and original.

I am excited for this week! I have been in a drama slump for months now...I am going to watch Encounter and MOTA. Encounter looks very pretty and I looove Noona romances and MOTA sounds really original and it is by the writer of Queen in Hyun’s man my favourite drama so..I am feeling optimistic..fingers crossed

When it comes to Memories of the Alhambra, I've seen enough of the writer's work to expect some very creative and well done storytelling, and the last ten minutes will wind up being infuriating and horrible.

Definitelly Clean with Passion for Now, I'm already dying from watching their fun press con event ! 😄

I have already picked two other dramas for my weekly plate, so I might skip Boyfriend and Alhambra (as they didn't really give me feelings since the beginning, what's the point of watching a drama if they couldn't make me feel something, anything..)

I'm in for something light and fun and I love the cast.
I'll probably check out MoA for the writer and PD. I think Hyun Bin has talents but I wouldn't watch a drama just for him alone.

Required fields are marked *

I would watch all of these...*checks schedule* ugh, still no time. Tell me which one ends up being good, guys! I had forgotten MOA had such a compelling writing/directing team, and it’s probably edged out the other two as a live watch if I can fit it into my life.

clean with passion should have followed House helper or House helper should have aired with this one.
Even without considering the high profile actors listed, Memories of Alhambra seems to be those rare good melos that grace drama land once in a while. I could be totally wrong as I have only read the synopsis and seen the stills but there is a sober feeling.
If dramas are good I may turn in actors are not really an attraction.

I'll try Memories of Alhambra since it will be on Netflix. I like the writer, but I always end up frustrated by her dramas so I'm a bit cautious going in.

Not interested in the other two and it doesn't look like they will be subbed legally in the U.S. anyway.

I'm really surprised Viki US doesn't have licensed yet for Boyfriend. That should be a given. Is it too expensive? OR did Netflix bought it but will not air it on same day?

I'll watch Memories of Alhambra, but I don't want to get my hopes up. I would like this to be a legit thriller, where characters end up dying. But since Park Shin Ye is there, then we know it will be romanticized. It's going to have a happy ending.

Also, the writer's previous drama was a mess at the end. So, I'm also being cautious.

Alhambra will be available on Netflix in many countries, including US. That's where I'll watch the drama, thanks to my brother's account.

I don't have expectations of Boyfriend as much. I'll check the first episode out, and will decide if it's worth it continuing. I drop dramas easily.

Fantasy-Sci Fi is not my normal cup of tea but I am looking forward to Memories of the Alhambra (I love to read the best Sci Fi- but most Sci-Fi for TV is abysmal). I wonder if it will do justice to the wonderful classical guitar piece that it is named after: Francisco Tarrega's "Recuerdos de la Alhambra". The creators of this show set themselves a very high bar to meet when they give it that name. The trailers for this show have certainly been intriguing. And it has two great leads so I am hopeful.

I'm excited I can watch a few of these dramas, but Clean with a Passion is restricted in the US. Which I find aggravating. Now where I watch this stuff legally and without spam pop ups!
