Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching

So, what are we all watching this week?

What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…

javabeans

Life: I keep seeing this drama as a palace political thriller in disguise (which makes me want to see the writer tackle actual palace politics in her next drama, having stuck to contemporary corruption thrillers like Forest of Secrets). It’s perhaps the one way you could make a drama without a central plot actually riveting, because it becomes this game to see each greedy power-mongering doctor rise and fall, only for the next one to take his place, while our righteous heroes remain in the background to step forward (hopefully?) at the last moment and prevail (hopefully?). I also find Jo Seung-woo’s character more fascinating the more we see him put under pressure by the chairman, because he isn’t the ultimate evil — heck, I don’t think he’s evil at all. It’s more like we’re watching this brilliant man toe the line between being a benevolent ruler or a corrupt tyrant, and I’m rooting for him to let his better nature prevail.

My ID Is Gangnam Beauty: I just picked this up this week, so I’m way behind but I like it enough to suspect I may be caught up fairly soon. I find the heroine’s position quite interesting, having wanted all her life to be treated as normal, only to find that once she gets surgery so that she can join the ranks of the rest of society, she’s so beautiful that she’s overshot and treated differently by everyone because of her beauty. I’m sure Aesop had a fable about that. Our resident Mr. Broody is shaping up to be the poster boy for the tsundere hero, and I find myself swooning in some parts and wishing in others that he were a more interestingly complicated character. I can’t wait for two-faced, snake-like Soo-ah to get her comeuppance, and just hope it won’t take all series long. My bloodlust must be sated, and the sooner the better.

Let’s Eat 3: Wah waaaaah. I knew the ending would be rushed—because how could it not be when your lead actor has two days to film an unexpected finale before rushing off to army duty—but even with my expectations set low, I was so disappointed that we got such a lukewarm send-off. Our hero spent the entirety of the season mourning and getting over his last love rather than focusing on his new love interest, which only seemed to worsen in the last two episodes when he actually confronted his heartache. That’s setting yourself up for failure if I’ve ever seen it. Look, would it have killed you to say something along the lines of, You were my first love and I was too chicken-shit to say it when I was twenty? She said it to you! I would’ve settled for a “Me too!” I ask for so little, and yet…

Mr. Sunshine: Okay, I did like seeing everyone come to Yoo Yeon-seok’s rescue when his life was at stake. I just wish the friendships were more overt in this drama, but I suppose the weird three-way frenemy-mance wouldn’t be nearly as funny if they acknowledged that they were friends? Mostly, I’m concerned that there aren’t that many episodes left, and everything seems to be pointing to a tragic end for… well, everyone.

Thirty But Seventeen: It’s a good thing the characters are so freaking cute in this, because man is the plot frustratingly simple and slow. Dancing around one secret for this long is bound to frustrate anyone, and I consider myself on the forgiving end of the spectrum because I like the leads and the setup so much. But listen, enough is enough. Out with it! The truth will set you free! Or at least curb your constant panic attacks!

Laica

Your House Helper: I was happy with the way the show dealt with the sexual harasser storyline… until it brought him back into a Da-young’s life and decided to frame his “crush” on her as real—and somehow harmless. NOPE. Also, I’m a little let down by how lukewarm and almost… familial(?) Da-young and Ji-woon feel with each other now that they’re actually an item. I’m surprised because I really found them so cute before, and I thought they had chemistry! Maybe it’s because, despite how much screen time has been devoted to Ji-woon’s tragic backstory, he somehow still feels a bit like a cipher. Also, this weird storyline that the disappeared ex-girlfriend is Cute Bartender’s estranged mom, and he’s become a low-key villain? Not a fan. I want more adorable healing-via-cleaning interludes.

Thirty But Seventeen: The drama continues to both make me laugh and make my heart feel squishy and vulnerable. I continue to wish for the characters’ secrets to be revealed at greater than a snail’s pace.

TeriYaki

Your House Helper: The broadcasting interruption couldn’t have come at a worse time because it took two weeks to get through the final two episodes. I was not a happy camper but the finale more than made up for my frustration. The final hour proved to be an emotional one; I spent most of it with a lump in my throat or tears in my eyes. Amazingly, by the end I had a smile on my face, certain that our characters were finally poised to make the most of their futures. Everyone was stronger, happier, and more confident, including the house helper who brought everyone and everything together. Believe it or not, this was the first time that I watched a drama that starred Ha Suk-jin, but it won’t be the last.

Be With You: I’ve been in a bit of a drama slump so I decided to choose a movie this week and settled on Be With You. So Ji-sub plays against type as the quiet and shy Woo-jin, a widower struggling to raise his young son. They both do their best to deal with the huge void that Sohn Ye-jin, as the wife and mother, left in their hearts and in their home. As if in answer to prayers, she reappears one day but has no memory of their lives together. It’s a sweet story and the movie takes its time to tell of the special love between Woo-jin and his wife. There were some surprising twists towards the end that brought the narrative into focus and shifted the entire mood of the movie.

@teriyaki So Ji Sub and Son Ye Jin played such an adorable couple. I mean, who can resist a dorky So Ji Sub ? But the relationship with their son and especially around the end was so touching. The twist was really nice tpp ! Be With You is a remake of a Jmovie, so I might watch it too ^^

- Completed -

Andante: It was weird at first to see Baek Chul Min playing a model student after his role as a bully in Solomon's Perjury. The show was interesting. Characters were engaging, the plot involving high school and a hospice was interesting and seeing quite new faces with other experienced actors was great.

Are You Human Too: It was an enjoyable show. I didn't like it as much as other Beanies but it was fun to watch Nnam Shin III be more human than humans themselves.

Champion (Kmovie): Ma Dong Seok <3 No need to say how much I love this actor ! It was nice to see Han Yeri plaing his little sister and a single mother with two adorable kids. She's always strong ! Also, Kwon Yul's character is different from the ones I'm used to see him play and it was a fresh breathe. Overall, I enjoyed this movie a lot more than expected.

Let Me Eat Your Pancreas (Jmovie): I didn't know Oguri Shun was part of the cast. I guessed the "twist" early but it didn't make the movie any less enjoyable. The cinematography was really pretty and the story was heartwarming.

Let's Eat 3: My OTP had a happy ending ! I'm talking about Seo Yeon and Ji Woo. It was nice to see them back in good terms. Thanks Yoon Doo Joon for playing Goo Dae Young ! I hope he will serve well in the army and come back to us maybe for a fourth season (with Ji Woo as his love interest !). While I liked this installement the best, it's still a shame not to see what Jin Seok and Byum Seok became in 2018.

A-Teen: ep 9. I say it again. I absolutly LOVE the girls friendship. The story could only be about them and I would be utterly satisfied. Even if Si Woo's crush is adorable.

Hide and Seek: ep 4. Characters are crazy, the screenwriter is crazy, everyone is crazy and I love it. It's good makjang with Lee Yoo Ri and I'm on board for this crazy trip.

My ID Is Gangnam Beauty: ep 11. Mi Rae's parents are cute. I don't want them to discover what a Gangnam beauty truly means. I feel more pity for Soo Ah than anger. Like Kyung Seok said, what does she gain from interfering so much in their lives. Mi Rae knows Soo Ah's true face now, and Kyung Seok doesn't care about people appearance so she shouldn't be that hesitant to start a relationship. Of course, it's easy to say, but she still cares for people opinion and it will take lots of courage for her to look over that.

Not Alright But It's Alright: ep 8. Taking a day off feels really great when you're overworked. But then, you go back to work with lots of things to do haha.

Unnatural: ep 2. I begin to really...

Agreed on Hide And Seek. It’s a crazy makjang show but I’m hooked as well. I can’t wait for Lee Yoo-ri’s fake heiress and slightly crazy character to get back at her fake psychopath grandma.

The funny thing is that I was going to watch Monay Flower but I saw Lee Yoo Ri was in the main cast and had to watch this drama instead. It's good that the craziness starts right off the bat, so we know we shouldn't expect logical situations and go along with whatever happens.

Let's Eat 3 - I agree with you! I love seeing the sisters getting back together. And I actually can see a subtle hint that they will be making the next installment of Let's Eat as GDY DID mentioned to 'wait for him a bit longer'. Was it hinting that please wait for him till he comes back from army? *wishful thinking* otherwise, I couldn't hope for more. I guess the lukewarm ending suffice the rush they had to go through. The production crews were actually kind enough to spare Dujun's time for other things before he went off instead of crunching him to finish shooting on other heavy scenes.

But I'm glad that Dujun managed to eat all those yummy stuff before going! XD

If we look at the first teaser for Let's Eat 3, it showed us that Dae Young and Ji Woo was actually lining up to enter a restaurant, as if they are doing a research (for their business, I think). I guess that was what the writers were heading but didn't make it to the ending they wanted. I am glad at least they got a small kiss scene for these two, even if it was only Ji Woo's dream 🤭

I had seen some clips of Hide and Seek and was intrigued. In weekend dramas, it seems like the right heiress is the main character and is the innocent, tender-hearted type. But in this drama, we've got the innocent true heiress, but it seems like Lee Yuri (the unwanted temporary replacement heiress) is the main character (and a fiery, badass one), and the male lead, who is the true heiress's bf, will end up falling in love with Lee Yuri's character.

I was confused for one moment seeing Lee Yoo Ri being on the drama's promotional poster on mydramalist after reading the synopsis. Watching this show, she 's truly the main protagonist. I don't know if I should totally root for her since she has a little craziness in her but then, who is sane in this show ? Maybe the nice girl ? Anyway, I will sit back and enjoy the mess upcoming. It will definitly become my new crack !

Secretary brings Chae Rin to Grandma and Shaman. Secretary gives Chae Rin clothes that look the same as Soo Ah's. Shaman and Grandma prepared a kind of ceremony with Soo Ah on her bed to transfer her bad luck to Chae Rin. If you pay attention, Chae Rin has lots of red strings hanging on top of her bed. I assume it reprents her bad luck and/or the difficulties she will encounter whereas Soo Ah has no string. Both girls's lives are entangled together as the red string shows it.

Silly me. I had extra time because of the preemptions, so I fired up an old computer game and go hooked (again) and hardly watched anything.

Lovely Horribly: 8/10 One of just two shows I watch ASAP, and the show I look forward to the most.

Witch's Court: 7 10 Ep 6: dude says he's crazy, then proves it by kissing the girl. Whut?

Voice 2: 6/10 Ep 5 had a nice suspenseful case for a while, but I thought the who's-your-baddie identity twist was more like a plot hole, and then they spent too much time reassuring us that everyone was ok instead of getting on with the next case. Ep 6: spent too much time on suspicions & hostility between the police -- the zombie was the best part -- like Hwayugi :) This is the other show I catch ASAP, hoping to see them live up to the standards of season 1. So far they haven't.

I'm watching too many dramas but because of the pre-emptions have almost kept up.

Your Honor I could write an essay about this because it's so frustrating and yet I keep watching. The good bits are excellent and the bad bits are terrible. YSY playing the gangster twin by delivering his lines with something between a snarl and a grimace does my head in. But Lee Yoo-Young is amazing and the emotional heart of the story as the trainee judge whose sister was raped - and the rapist got away with it. Whenever it's dealing with the court cases, I love it. Whenever YSY is pretending to be a gangster, not so much. I wish he'd chosen a different facial expression to distinguish between his two characters or at least toned it down a bit as the series went on.

Witch's Love It's finished. I was a bit disappointed by the final two episodes but then the ending scene with the two of them kissing over breakfast under the disapproving eye of the two grannies cracked me up and I thought that the drama was cute again. I liked the not-fated part (even though there was of course a childhood connection to make up for that) and the realism of how new couples behave. But... was there a plot somewhere? Like candy floss - super sweet without a lot of substance. Sometimes that's just what you need.

Thirty but Seventeen I still love this drama because everybody is nice. And it's cute. And fluffy. Like a baby chick. But now I want this baby chick to grow up a bit and go somewhere.

Life I'm slowly catching up with this one because - unlike the other dramas that I'm watching - you actually have to pay attention otherwise you miss something!

Come and Hug Me I had no intention of watching this but @LeeTenant, @Shiindy and @ravennightstar were Rabbit Watching it and I had nothing else to do and just joined them for a few minutes and... completely hooked. I'm so interested in this story about what crime does to the victims and the families, and how certain people try to make money out of others' grief and trauma. The acting is amazing. Also - watching two episodes a day is just perfect. What are we going to watch when we're done with this one, chingus?

I can't watch Yoon Shi Yoon's acting ever since I saw him in Prime Minister & I. He basically has 1 facial expression - sad, bordering on crying. And he uses that in every scene, it was hard for me to tell whether he was sad, angry, happy, touched, etc. I couldn't finish that drama because of him and I thought, if it had been any other capable actor, I would have had serious SLS. I tried him again in Grand Prince, but same thing, same expression. I give up.

Your house helper

Dunno, but somehow I felt disappointed. 😞 I felt the two last episodes lack quality and the typical "healing tips" where the cleaning process made their way into our hearts. And it had nothing to do with being two weeks apart.
I felt like the writer was tired by the end of the serie. She/he was tired and didn't know what else to do with their characters, so well, let's give them all a nice resolution and as for the rest of the hour, we have some filings, reused scenes from before.
Now, don't get me wrong. I still liked this show and it made me happy most of the time.😉 But the finale was a little bit let down, except the part where they cleaned Dae Young' father' possessions. That was really really touching, and I cried with her.
Naughty guess: that must be the room she gave mr. Kim at the end 😆

Mr. Sunshine
Catching up slowly. One episode at the time. Joseph's death made me cry rivers.
I still live Ae shin so much😍... But I have to prepare my heart because I don't think they will be happy at the end. History of this period of time tells me already, whatever they do is in vain anyways. Joseon won't be free, and its people will keep in suffering for a long long time 😖😥😐😞

I agree with you about the relative flatness of the last 2 episodes of My House helper. The return of Mr. Kim's ex made almost no sense and certainly provided an inadequate explanation- especially when it came to why she abandoned her son. But Sang A's proposal was perfect.

Life: I don't know how the writer is able to make a show about Hospital politics interesting, but that is some serious skills right there.

My ID: It really did seem like this show came out of nowhere. I had no interest in it and I didn't really see anyone else on the site show too much either. But this really became one of my favorite shows. It's amazing how a show can have scenes showing the deep social problems in Korea, then a scene where a main character is feeling devastating loss over a coin he couldn't pick up. And it all works.

That was me too on its first week. I just wanted to check it out out of curiosity, but lo and behold, darn after ep 2, I craved for more and went ahead to read the webtoon at once. Then heart broke when I found out webtoon is still not finished in English. And 11 episodes later, I`m still obsessing it.

Witch's Love I had no idea this would be only 12 eps! So I was really shocked that the finale rolled around. Overall, this was a very sweet drama that despite not promising anything grand still presented a great fluffy story that was high on love, respect and cozyness. It's a great drama to zip through if you're not feeling all the other dramas or if you want some mindless fun. The cringey acting gets better and the premise shines a lot more + the grannies!

Mr.Sunshine I'm finally in ep 8 and I've discovered this is the perfect drama to watch whilst eating. It doesn't make me crave for anything and I can ogle at the beauty in peace without thinking what could've been. So far the plot is inching very, very slowly, the historical aspects seem very distant and not engaging but I don't mind because the languid pacing means I sit back and relax. The character development is finally happening and I hope everyone begins shedding their masks to liven up the pace.

Wife's Credentials Phenomenal. The acting draws me in, their mediocre lives speaks volumes and the directing makes me feel like I'm a part of their constricted, competitive, unoriginal worlds. The fact that they took a boring premise - a child's education and spun it into multiple webs of stories that thread in and out of people's lives are fascinating. The lies, the hypocrisy, the patriarchy, the stifling of differences, the falseness of it all resonates. It resonates so much that the dry premise is so incredibly reveiting . The passion so engaging, so real, so free.

While watching I found this amazing review that puts the drama (first 2 eps) into words that I couldn't (Para's 1-4 are non-spoilery, henceafter read at your own caution):

I have been a big fan of PD Ahn Pan-seok's work way before "A Wife's Credential."
Ahn and writer Jung Sung Joo are the dynamic duo (at least mine). Much like Kim Jong-hak and Song Ji-na back in the days but they were more popular.
"Heard It Through the Grapevine" (SBS, 2015)
"Secret Love Affair" (JTBC, 2014)
"A Wife's Credentials" (JTBC 2012)
I love them all equally.
It's too bad they couldn't work together again on "Pretty Noona." I believe we would've gotten something entirely different.

We were all at thundie's prattle for "A Wife's Credential." The much lighter shows were DB's bread and butter.

Mr Sunshine 15-16 - oh my heart. These 2 episodes are so, good, my heart hurts. The random images of them being in NY are beautiful. She looks beautiful, they look happy. Hui Seong continues to amaze me with his deep thoughts and lone fight. I hope his news publication company will be the media and voice of the Right Army Movement.

Voice 2 ep 5-6 - i am unable to tear my attention away from each episode. Each cases flow smoothly and grip my attention at all times. It’s just, so good. I am curious about Detective Do’s backstory. We’re still kept in dark about that except for few glimpses of psychopaths-like tendencies. Team Leader Kang is awesome.

Life ep 11-12 - 2 hours just flew by. I really want President Gu to team up with the hospital team and fight the chaebol family. He must have known a lot of their dirty laundries. If only he turns away from them and fight for the hospital, the chaebol family would be done for.

Familiar Wife ep 9-10 : the cliffhanger! I really wish that they don’t break Jung Hoo’s gold heart by letting him witnessing the kiss. My otp is still Joo Hyuk-Woo Jin but Jung Hoo is such a good and sweet guy!

Lovely Horribly - watching this to fill gaps while waiting for new releases. I’m not really liking this so far but I’m staying for the comedy. And Gi Kwang😘

Thirty but Seventeen I'm enjoying the drama as usual and loved Woo-Jin's jealous reaction. I'm concerned for Woo-Jin when he gets to know about Seo-Ri being his crush. I'm not ready to see Chan being heart broken again. I feel the pace of the show is slight off. It's been 20 episodes and offlate Kang Hyun-Tae has been missing completely. Now that we see the dead person in the collision accident was Jennifer's husband I want to know her story more and more.
My ID is Gangnam Beauty Still has to catch up with episode 11. I'm happy that now Mi-Rae know Soo-Ah is double faced. I love Kyung-Seok and Woo-young jealous reactions.
Witch's love I'm looking this no nonsense easy going drama but just yesterday got to know it's 12 episodes in total and I've watched 7/12 and not ready to let it go. I'm having second lead syndrome as he's so sang cute.

My ID Gangnam Beauty : it's sad to see Mirae to not understand that her worst enemy is herself. As long as she won't understand she doesn't have to care about the opinion of people, there will always be someone to find fault... She's lucky to have a warm family, a good best friend and good college friends. I like the OST Junggigo(정기고) - D-Day !

Your House Helper: it was a nice drama. Not a incredible one, but warm stories. But I'm not sure to have understand all the story of the mysterious woman...

30 but 17Still cute :) but 2 episodes by week is better !

Mr SunshineStill beautiful !

Meteor GardenIt's a typical drama from a manga. I'm happy that the second couple have a happy ending ! Finally !

Voice 2 I like the new casting, there is a lot of suspens.

My Familiar WifeI don't really like it... I like the casting. But I think all is to easy for Joo Hyuk. I like the OST SF9 - Love Me Again.

"palace political thriller in disguise" hah judging from how she used Hwajeong (lit. splendid politics) as the name of the omnipotent corporation, I don't think the sageuk-ish intent was concealed that much by Lee Sooyeon. Very curious writing choice and it has yielded riveting results with most of these characters, indeed. After watching the latest episodes, I do wish Life won't go the SF route as far as latter half plot twist/major series shocker... Cannot go through that again.

Marry Me Now - There is one character that I really dislike. Intensely. We were given heartbreak and pure joy in the last episode. Now I want evil slime ball jerk face to get what he deserves. Six episodes left...

Witch's Love - so adorable! Completely fluffy and fun!

I'd love to watch Seventeen But Thirty... Soon... 💕

I saw Youtube preview and seems like Father is back and its time for Moon Shik to face him?

My ID is Gangnam: I really don't want the parents to find out the whole Gangnam Beauty thing is a diss but I know it's coming. I've been happy with the pacing but - enough already - I'm ready for the gal to figure it (she is worthy of the handsome tsunderes affections) out though her doubts are totally understandable.

30 but 17: I love this group but definitely a character-driven drama.

Your House Helper: I'm watching as Viki releases episodes so only halfway through. I want more of the nail lady.

C-Dramas:

Ashes of Love: Very addictive and reminds me of Eternal Love though I hear there is some filler in the late 30ish episodes, but I'll worry about that later as I'm at episode 12. I have to hand it to the lead actress because her type character could drive people crazy, but I think she's awesome the way she's written and performed. I knew I'd seem the actress before and figured out it was Ode to Joy.

Bloody Romance: Also addictive but weird and disturbing at the same time. It's on hold but I will jump back in.

On a side note am happy to see that Dramafever seems to have an in again and is licensing more Korean dramas. The whole Kocowa thing knocked them for a loop and as much as I like C-dramas, I only like certain ones and it was really hit or miss on what they were licensing.

I agree with you about DramaFever. I am glad to see that DF has VOICE 2. I would love DF to become the home for OCN dramas. It was annoying to have to watch OCN's terrific LIFE ON MARS on an *alternate* site. It was the same situation with SUITS. Are Korean "remakes" never picked up on Viki or Dramafever?

None of the remakes from the US or England (in the cast of LOMs) have been shown on legal sites that I know of. I'm hopeful Netflix might pick up LOMs, but I'm assuming that licensing fees are bigger due to perhaps paying the Korean production company and the original one. Some of the remakes have been misfires (of course) but LOMs, Suits and The Good Wife have been well received.

I don't think it's the remakes. I think it's the cable shows that don't seem to be picked up a lot, especially not that Kocowa has taken over. DF seems to show a lot of fluffy teenage romcoms, a lot of Chinese dramas (which I've now gotten into) and occasionally a more serious drama such as Voice 2. The sad thing is most of what seems to be the best quality these days are the cable shows. Most of what Kocowa produces are pretty badly done.

No, DF has always gotten certain cable productions like Voice and they will always go for the teen/fluffy stuff because they know who the consumer is (I mean BOFS is the #1 on MDL). Kocowa does not involve the cable stations at all. At least that was my understanding. Now that THAAD is ending and Korean actors are allowed to legally be shown again in C dramas maybe things will ease up.

Yes, DF get a few cable productions, but not usually the ones I really wanted to watch, like Life on Mars.
btw, Just Between Lovers, one of the best productions last year (or was it early this year?) is now on Hulu. And so is Along with the Gods.

1

I really liked Just Between Lovers but am happy to see it on Hulu. They used to have so much Korean content and it's just so limited now. I'm not familiar with Along With The Gods. I'll have to check this out.

I think that the economics of re-makes works against low margin operations like Viki. On the other hand that also drives Viki and Dramafever to be more expert at choosing their C-drama's and K-drama's. The excellent Legend of Fuyou and My ID is Gangnam Beauty are both on Dramafever while I got to see Because This life is Our First on Viki. These are top quality shows which beat any remake.

I only started watching Ashes of Love when it ended and I could read on MDL if people were happy with how it went. Most fans of the book skipped what they considered the filler with the Demon Princess but were otherwise happy and people who hadn't read the book, seemed okay even with the other storyline. I have gotten used to filler in C-dramas to a certain extent, and if I think it isn't helping the story, I'm a vicious skipper.

I'll report back if I made a big mistake or not.

I decided to wait until it's ended and then skip those filler episodes too. I heard the leads go thru hell to get to the end but it's supposedly a happy ending (?) I'm also a vicious skipper because I'm impatient to see the leads' scenes. If the drama is worth a 2nd watch (since I miss so much the first time, adult add at work) then I'll watch the side stories if I like the 2nd leads.

I did go read the article you posted. It is just a shame that C-dramas go for the $ instead of the quality. I get if they need add'l episodes to have the $ to build sets and stuff but at least be honest with the writers and actors from the get go.

I don't mind an extra story that isn't in the book if it is done well but - wow -that's some serious drama behind the scenes. If they knew ahead of time, they could have done it more like Eternal Love where the secondary couple's story flowed more naturally through the story.

Your Honor: I'm obsessed - why was there only one episode??

My ID is Gangnam Beauty: Well, we're over half the drama in and I'm actually starting to warm up to it now?

Hana Nochi Hare: Finally finished, Melodrama of the Year so far.

2 Days 1 Night: No wonder I'm behind on everything when I've been watching this non-stop for weeks now. Nothing else makes me laugh this much - expect perhaps Hana Kimi. It's basically the ultimate comfort food.

FLOWER BOY NEXT DOOR (rewatching): I just realized that recent tvN is too generous with the screentime that we got 70-80 minutes of drama per episode meanwhile this drama they only have 45 minutes of airing time (including CFs). It is still my favorite drama.

MY ID IS GANGNAM BEAUTY (Ep. 11): I still like the drama, but I feel kind of a bit jaded. Despite attending one of the top university in Korea, on top of that studying chemistry major, they don't seem having any problem with finding balance in studying for exam, gaining some credits, part-time working, join organization and playing with friends which is so unrealistic to me knowing how competitive South Korean universities. I know I may sound like I hate Hyunjung, just attack me using all of your strength. But I also don't think it is possible for Hyunjung and Mirae to always meet each other in campus, especially when they are in different faculty. Even me and my friend attending different major having hard time to schedule meetup despite on the same building. The CR who supposed to be Mirae's new bestfriend didn't appear at all in this episode (which made me got mad that she supposed to expose Sooah). I also pity Mirae since it feels like she doesn't have any friends in her class except Kyungseok, which is very unhealthy. Not gonna drop this until Sooah got her own karma, Mirae totally embrace her body and feelings, and wishing Hyunjung happiness but not with Wooyoung since I don't think he can look at her more than just a friend.

THIRTY BUT SEVENTEEN (Ep. 19-20): Chan sweetie, why did you just turning a blind eye!!! This is as ridiculous as Chick Jr back to being baby chick again. For our little furry messenger Deokgu, you did a good job and deserve a daesang. I am applauding Seori that she now know what she wants to do and not afraid to run towards it despite many hurdles ahead. LOL at Woojin being jealous and with another case of bad lying, feeling soft when he talks to Chan, and feel sad when he got another series of trauma. Also love Chan and Seori's conversation as if its they are just two teenagers who can't wait to grow up and reaching their own dreams.

Life - 8/10 awesome. Too much praise for Mr. President. Too many explanations made for him. He isn't even Anti-Hero.
What Heroine does? - Tour guide of the hospital. Eat foods with elder brother, Drives home younger brother. randomly meets Mr. president everywhere. Heroine is useless annoyance.

Time - 6/10 - This drama takes away your energy. Give us something positive, writer. I'm surprised by the reaction of vast audience.
3 weeks ago i made comment about it and now again i want to say the same thing.

These fans want Heroine to be pregnant. wow.
WHERE THESE PEOPLE COME FROM? What's the logic behind this obsession over forcing a pregnancy on a heroine?
Seriously, ever did they thought about heroine and her future?

I used to feel that male audience is immature and verbally abusive but after experiencing the female audience(kpop and asian dramas) past 2 years i have started to give more respect to male audience.

Lover and Pie - 6/10 Light hearted nonsensical drama.

10 Jdramas - watching

Top Jdrama - Himomen aka Moochy Boyfriend.

Stepmother and daughter

MOVIES - Parks and Colours of Wind

I did watch more than these, but these are all I have time to think about. 😉

Familiar Wife - The preview episodes after Ep 10 gives me hope. Joo Hyuk has been stuck in the new timeline for far too long. With 10 episodes out of 16 already over, I'm hoping that the original timeline scenes are not going to be squeezed into just 1-2 episodes, but treated fully as they deserve. There're so many wrongs to right, I'd like to see a reasonably gradual reconciliation of the OTP and NOT a rush job of Joo Hyuk placating Woo Jin and of Woo Jin just letting him get away with it too easily. I'd also like to see Woo Jin come back to her naturally ebullient self and be a happier mum.

On the Hye Won end, much as I disapprove of her, I'm glad she found out that the bf was a douche bag of the highest order.

Your House Helper - It pretty much got wrapped up with ribbons and bows, with everyone moving on and getting on well, and with nostalgic flashbacks and sentimental goodbyes. I found that I missed in these last few episodes, the household tips and sage advice on living well and healthily, that the first half of the series doled out regularly. Also I thought it was a pity that Ga Ram's reunion with his mum was only briefly mentioned and that we never got to see it. It was interesting that Tae Soo had to be set apart from the others before So Hee could visit him, because she was never meant to become part of the group. On the whole, it was a well thought out and well written show. I liked how the cast took their bows, so to speak, 2 by 2, as they ran off in the rain, from the side characters to the main. Thumbs Up to a sweet show, warm and uplifting all the way.

Thirty But Seventeen - Still eminently watchable and the relationships of the main threesome elicit lots of happy squees, however it's flagging in the area of tension with characters moving forward a few paces only to backtrack. I feel that the series would have done very well with just 16 episodes so that the plot does not have to be eked out, like now, to fill 20 episodes instead.

My ID is Gangnam Beauty - A pretty good show, and I mean that with and without the pun. What I like about it (now that I'm comparing with 30 But 17) is that there are no superfluous characters or unexplainable events. All possible couplings are more or less in place. I happy to see that Mi Rae's greater awareness of Soo Ah's lies stays and I hope that she won't be needing Kyung Seok's help against Soo Ah or the lousy sunbae, Chan Woo. Next, I really need Kyung Seok to declare clearly how he feels to Mi Rae. It's taking too long!!

Thirty but Seventeen: *cue the It's So Fluffy I'm Gonna DIE! clip* Yang Se Jong never really caught my eye, but now I'm in love. I love the relationships in this drama - from Woo-jin seeing Jennifer as family to Hee Soo being such a great boss to her employees to the violin repairman being so nice to Seo-ri. The Chan and Woo-jin relationship is actually my favorite. I'm so happy that Seo-ri has a chance to perform again. I'm impatient with how the drama is straining to avoid letting Woo-jin know that his No Su-mi is Seo-ri and to avoid Seo-ri getting any sort of information about her missing family, but I'm also glad we can spend more time on the cute.

Risky Romance: It's so bad, but so watchable! Why does this hospital keep letting a doctor who has been fired from the hospital come back to do major surgeries for them? And is good doctoring directly correlated to giving away free medical services? And how can you install CCTV in the same room where you see your patients? Can you treat kleptomania at a hospital? So Seung-joo's testoserone problem was never treatable? Love is still dangerous to his brain? @__@ The positives: It can be cute at times. And Ji Hyun-woo looks amazing in the kitchen.

Familiar Wife (a week behind): Ji Sung deserves an award just based on that scene of him finding the homeless man in the bathroom and pouring out his regrets. I've been so fed up with Joo-hyuk, but that moment made me want to give him 2nd and 3rd chances. I wish there was a way to get Woo-jin and Joo-hyuk together without making Hye-won unlikable, without making Joo-hyuk a liar, and without hurting Jung-hoo.

I'm so glad somebody else is enjoying the wonder that Risky Romance? Are you watching it with the same glorious subs?

To be serious for a moment, this show has an interesting premise about the physiological basis of human behaviour and how we should respond to some people's action - the kleptomania plotline is in fact really interesting if they'd give it any attention (because, yes, you can and should treat something like kleptomania as a medical condition rather than locking a person up for theft). In the middle of this episode Shin and the klepto briefly had a fascinating conversation, which went something like "You need to come to your appointments to get treated" vs "Maybe I'm just a thief who does bad things and should be punished for them".

I think that's supposed to be the entire point of the show but the conversation lasted less than a minute and then it was on to more silly cohabitation hijinks.

In fact, most of the female lead's own actions make sense if you realise she understands the male lead's behaviour is entirely hormonal*...

... except apparently it isn't? Because his testosterone levels are now fine? Is that supposed to be because of her? Because he's in love? I have no idea what's happening. This show is so badly written. He did have a testosterone problem, right? And he still got a bad headache from their kiss? So why didn't it show up on the tests? Why am I even asking these questions?

Anyway, the whole premise reminds me of a fascinating case study done by Radiolab about a man who have violent, life-threatening seizures who underwent a series of brain surgeries to treat them. After the surgeries, he developed a compulsive child-porn habit and was eventually arrested for possession of child pornography. And the entire quandary is that he didn't have any interest in child porn before the surgery so this is the result of a medical condition - an acquired brain injury - but at the same time children are harmed making child porn. So should he be locked up or not?

*And off course, getting romantically involved with him under those circumstances is even more unethical than filming patients with the CCTV he just installed in her treatment room.

Yes, I'm also watching it with those funny subs! They have a lackadaisical flair that complement the drama very well. I'm sure even if the subs were better, I'd still be just as confused as to what is going on in this drama.

I was also interested in that premise and that case study you brought up is interesting. Unfortunately, the drama seems very ill-equiped to handle it. Maybe a sparkly rom-com isn't the right genre for it. With the interesting premise and the likable characters (who need to be toned down a bit), I feel like the drama could have gone in a variety of better directions.

I'm also confused about Seung-joo's medical condition. He had a testosterone problem that was causing him to go violent. But his brain injury also resulted in some cut or flap of tissue where if the nearby blood vessels expand and touches it, he would feel pain and be at risk of something life-threatening. It seems like love did cure the testosterone problem (doctors, is this a thing??) or maybe it went away on its own? Anyways, no one seems to care about that problem anymore. But love (or probably sexual arousal) is also causing blood vessels near him brain to expand which is resulting in painful headaches. But then everyone was looking at the high dopamine levels and was fine with it...?

I need someone to take him to another kdrama hospital.

I need someone to take him to another kdrama hospital.

His imaginary medical condition needs a more competent set of imaginary medical practitioners.

I was wondering if what "cured" his testosterone problem was actually the domesticity. Sure, he's in love chemically speaking but since he moved in he's been nesting. He's living with people, cooking, cleaning, and even being touched (probably for the first time in a long time). That kind of emotional security can have real physiological impacts.

For some reason, his brain injury didn't get a mention this episode and I wished it had. in fact, they kept talking about his scans were clear - wouldn't they say "apart from the existing damage"?

And again, I think you and I are making this a much more interesting drama than it is, LOL.

What did I watch this Saturday morning? MR SUNSHINE ep 17. Without being spoilery (and I want to so bad) I'll just say imo of course:
1st 5 minutes - oooh, possibilities!
2nd 50 minutes - oh, let down, boring, going nowhere slowly, how can this writer take something that should be exciting and make it boring?
3rd 5+ minutes: honestly, Dong mae's scenes and Heung Soo (whatever his name is) scenes, so hokey (that's cheesy in other vernacular). Why are they so fallen for her?? Makes no sense except they must have the hots for her. They're so pitiful right now. Man up, boys!
Last few minutes: don't worry, dearies. You-know-who ain't gonna die.
But those last few minutes showed real possibilities of something finally happening - in the next episode. But I've been fooled before.

My ID is Gangnam Beauty: SOOOOO satisfying to watch as a female! OMG I'm just so happy they're still hitting on literally all the "little" slights (aka shitty things) that we go through, all the passive aggressive comments and double standards, for a wide range of women.

Still waiting on Soo-Ah to just go away though, lol. Like the story could do without her. Mirae has enough complexes to drive the story as is.

Anyways, sorry I got distracted - really really proud of them girls for standing up, I know they were still being mocked after that, but that's a step. As long as you show them you're not someone to be stepped on, that's all good.
