Park Min-young considers romancing Park Seo-joon in tvN’s Why Secretary Kim

So much pretty. I don’t really fancy the plot of this new drama (it’s so 2001), but man do I love this potential pairing. Park Seo-joon (Fight My Way) has decided to sign on to tvN’s new webtoon adaptation drama Why Secretary Kim (or more literally, Why Is Secretary Kim Acting Like That), and an offer has been made to Park Min-young (Seven Day Queen) to headline as the title character.

The drama is based on a popular webtoon by the same name with 4.5 million views, and it’s an office romantic comedy about a super capable secretary and her chaebol boss. Park Min-young is being courted to play Secretary Kim, an assistant who knows her boss’s every move before he makes it, and is basically the behind-the-scenes fixer who solves everything no matter how big the crisis. She’s a legend among secretaries, and would get blood on her hands if she had to for her job. She’s an absolute perfectionist at work, but the second she clocks out, she turns into a lazy slob who picks things up with her feet at home.

Park Seo-joon will play her boss, a vice president and second-generation chaebol graced with good looks and brains to top it off. His major malfunction is his personality, of course, which is “the prickliest in the entire universe” due to his extreme narcissism. Gee, what a ray of sunshine. The drama will be about their “heart-fluttering, roller coaster romance” as they work together.

It sounds a lot like the recent office drama Jugglers, which I also thought had a very old premise, but it was executed well with cute characters and lots of comedy. Maybe Park Seo-joon’s character will be a mix of prickly Daniel Choi and spoiled chaebol Lee Won-geun, all rolled into one. And even though Baek Jin-hee was a superwoman secretary in Jugglers, I’d like to see Park Min-young’s version be even more badass, because after her strong heroines in Healer and Seven Day Queen, I’m just not going to settle for her taking orders from a jerkface, even if that jerkface is Park Seo-joon.

Why Secretary Kim is scheduled to air on Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning in late May.

Gawd, she sounds a little like me, I'm a slob at home even though I look outwardly organized, so if anything at least I'll relate to the character? LOL.

I love these two, so if it works out I'll definitely be checking it out. It does sound like Jugglers, except Chi-won was nowhere near narcissistic... prickly definitely though.

But I am a sucker for such plotlines, so fingers crossed!

Park Min young's character sounds awfully like the Kim Hyun Joo's character in What Happens to My Family?, which sounds hilarious. They're like two different personas at work then at home. :D

I am a slob at home too, something to do with exhausting all my energy during office hours and also about letting go (heh!), can't be perfect all the time.

Sounds like Jugglers, couldn't finish Jugglers because of this eminent fear of mine that Daniel Choi might crush his secretary when they get serious due to her size, and I hate that she sighed too much.

This pairing might work and both are decent actors. Yay! another light-hearted drama.

Whoa, that IS a whole lotta pretty. Here's hoping PMY signs on!

I would also totally watch a show in which PMY would be the chaebol and PSJ the super-efficient secretary. Let's mix things up a bit, drama world!!

As much as I loathed Witch at Court, I did appreciate that SHE was the superior. I also appreciated how he did give deference to her. It's extremely rare to see a woman superior in a non-noona romance but we need more of them.

I have just started watching 'I do, I do', which has similar dynamics. The second lead is a nightmare though. So, it may have to be selective watching + recaps on DB!

I thought the exact same thing as I was reading this! She would rock it as a snooty chaebol because I don't care how she acts she will find a way to make us love her anyway. And I could see him playing both sides of the coin so well.

Very 2001 indeed but I’m strangely excited by the story, plus Park Min Young! So want her to do another great drama after healer and skks!

It reminds me a bit about Kim Hyun Joo's character in What Happens to my Family. But then again it also sounds like every other secretary-boss drama plotline, LOL. But I do like the potential pairing.

Same here. And that's too sad cos I've been waiting for PMY's drama comeback for some time now. Plot sounds TOO similar to Jugglers. And I just finished it last week (okay but not great). I wish they'd be more creative, this office romcom plot has been recycled repeatedly in dramaland

Checking the post and thinking oh, so pretty, and found it echoed in the first sentence. Then after reading the post got to thinking, uh, so a reprise of his role in She Was Pretty..? All these pretties...

Apart from the fact she's a PA not a lawyer, it maybe sounds more like Two Weeks Notice?

Sounds so much like Jugglers LOL. I really loved the secretary version's by Baek Jin-hee and Kim Hyun-joo (What Happened To My Family).

I don't know if I'll be interested to watch another secretary drama anytime soon and female secretary at that (when will we get to see female leads as a boss and male lead as her assistant?) Besides this kind of classic plot very much depends on the execution so hopefully the one who is going to helm this drama will do a good job.

I recommend Ms.Temper and Nam Jungi if you haven't seen it already which has this plot (female lead boss and male lead subordinate). It's an awesome underrated show ;)

It would be cool if PSJ was a jerk to everyone BUT his amazing secretary, whom he quietly has a crush on because she is so awesome. Too much to ask?

Oh I'd love that! Like she's too busy being awesome and professional to even think about that he might like her. Though the usual in dramaland is that if a snooty chaebol likes a girl, especially one below him, he treats her like dirt. Would happily be wrong.

Sounds like Jugglers but since it's TvN I'm sure the execution will be different.
Hope the drama doesn't lose steam midway though and actually has a strong plot with good writing.

Thanks @girlfriday... You made my day with the statement "so 2001"...
That said, I will love to see both of them act in the drama, I feel like they will work well together.....

I feel like I need this because it's only so many times I can hold my hostage to Healer. That said, this doesn't really sound like a Park Min Young drama. She tends to take fierce woman dramas and this character seems a bit shaky. However, with the right writer, I'm sure PMY can totally make this.

I love both Park Seo-joon and Park Min-young, but the plot doesn’t interest me. However, dramas are almost always about the execution, so I’m definitely not writing this off.

PSJ’s character description is giving me She Was Pretty flashbacks, which... eh... hopefully he’s not AS needlessly mean in this one.

I read that it will be directed by Park Joon-hwa, who did Because This Life is Our First and Let’s Eat, so that has me excited!

Meh for the plot. Unless, as GF said, they go for a cute, funny Jugglers-like vibe.

OMGGGGG I love these two!! :D Never thought of them together before, but now I'm excited for their pairing!

The boss & secretary plot is not exciting though. I haven't watched Jugglers, but the basic plot sounds pretty similar. I hope that Park Seo Joon's character will not be too extreme and be unlikable. And I hope Park Min Young's character will be a strong, resilient one that handles him like a pro.

YES PLEASE. Park Min-young has a great track-record of picking good projects, so if she signs onto this I'll feel pretty secure that this'll be a solid show. I mean, Healer, City Hunter, Queen for Seven Days, Remember, Sungkyunkwan Scandal -- she's done some good stuff in recent years. She's one of the few actors whose judgement I actually really trust.

Also Park Seo-joon. Yum.
