Namgoong Min in talks to become Handsome Guy for SBS

I’m all for casting Namgoong Min (Falsify, Chief Kim) as a handsome guy. It might be the world’s most generic description of K-drama hero (others that come to mind are rich guy, cold guy, or geeeeenius guy), but you can’t argue that he doesn’t fit the part. SBS has a new drama in the works called Handsome Guy and Jung-eum, an opposites-attract romance between a man who’s got love completely figured out and a woman who’s made it her life’s mission to fall in love.

The new series will be penned by writer Lee Jae-yoon of Tamra The Island and My Unfortunate Boyfriend, as well as the movies Red Carpet and Professional Mr. Baek. It’s about a man who has parsed every theory there is about love, and a woman named Jung-eum whose greatest dream in life is to be married. I’m getting the sense that he’s a love guru while love is a mystery to her, which just makes me eager for the inevitable twist when he falls for her.

Namgoong Min’s agency confirmed that he received the offer to headline, and released a statement saying, “The plan and the script were fresh, so he is considering it favorably.” The casting reports don’t offer more details about the characters or plot, but I don’t expect Namgoong Min to sign on to a drama with a two-dimensional hero, not after his hot streak as a quirky leading man in Falsify, Chief Kim, and Beautiful Gong Shim, which came after his hot streak as a psycho villain in Remember–Son’s War and Girl Who Sees Smells. The man’s just on a long streak, so let’s not mess with it, okay?

Handsome Guy and Jung-eum is being planned for a May broadcast on SBS, following Wednesday-Thursday dramas Return and Switch: Change the World.

He has literally posted commercials he's done to his Instagram and I've watched them because they're fun performances. Apparently he's good at picking commercials as well as drama scripts.

Ha! Cast Handsome guy as "handsome guy". Perfect casting as far as Namgoong Min is concerned. I am not too sure I like the stereotypical role descriptions yet but i trust NGM to pick a good project!

This.

You have no idea the rollercoster of emotions I felt when I read the headline about Lee Jun Ki's possible new drama yesterday. I was thrilled when I read that he's considering new drama, but flopped when I read the word "legal". I'm even considering of skipping that drama

I think as long as it's not a procedural but just has a legal backdrop it would be more watchable but yeh I totally agree with you

Yes for Namgoong Min in a rom-com (as the lead not a murderer)!!! Though the only thing I’ve seen from this writer is ‘My Unfortunate Boyfriend’ and let’s just say that drama was unfortunately bad...

I've only watched Tamra the Island and it was overall good or maybe a good drama adptation. The male lead played by Lim Joo-hwan started as a standard jerk male lead but then he proved to be more than that as the show progressed :)

Namgoong Min's swag facial expression for this news is perfect.
The woman mirroring Namgoong Min's particular brand of wackiness is perfect.

First we have Pretty Noona, now we have Handsome Guy. What honest drama titles!

I’m always impressed by the sheer dedication that Namgoong Min has for his roles lately. He’s been acting his little heart out and I can always count on him to be entertaining. Show me what you’ve got this time, Handsome Guy!

No space for newbies this year; many veterans and top actors are coming back. But you can try JTBC. They seem to be the only channel that utilizes newbies in lead roles.

There are drama give chances for new, fresh and underrated faces - Just Between Lovers,Waikiki, upcoming A Poem A Day, OCN's romcoms (recently ended Longing Heart, sport youthful drama called Short, upcoming That Man Oh-soo) etc etc. Cables still give more opportunities to them compared to public broadcasters. You just need to find the right ones to watch and you will get to see new and different faces.

Namgoong Min as a handsome guy? Perfect casting! I just hope the story doesn't fail us. He has had relatively good luck in choosing good dramas and roles as of late, so lets hope this streak continues.

Hurray! Namgoong Min is nuanced, charming, and good looking. I have not yet seen him play a character that is a cold, arrogant jerk to be won over, so maybe this is why I love his characters so much. He would make a great one true partnership partner.

Btw, this sounds a bit like the plot of the just released Chinese drama, Mr. Right, about a relationship expert falling in love. It was pretty good (I would rate it a B).

Come on, no way don't go there, the male character in Mr. Right was horrible to say the least, he was the guy that should be forgotten as soon as possible. He was the worst relationship expert ever. I dont want Nam goong min in that role, even Jin dong could'nt save the series from being so bad but it had a some nice mid part till the ex-girlfriend caused havoc.

I was just about to start Mr. Right, whew i have been saved. I liked the main actor in the doctors show i watched of him he pretty much acts the same in all the drams I've seen of him but, now i know its not just me.

Nah, I'm watching it right now and am on episode 19. and I really like the guy, as a matchmaker and a person. The banter between the main leads is fun to watch and they don't immediately fall in love. There is a realistic progression of relationship. So far I like the drama, so give it a try. Who know you might end up liking it, too?!

I thought he was pretty good at being relationship expert? I mean it wasn't exactly on his experience as he had none, but his points were mostly logical and very understandable.

there cant be anyone more handsome than NGM for Handsome Guy... I was dying to see him back in a RomCom after Gong Shim. I guess drama gods did listen to my plea.
now waiting to see who gets cast as female lead...

Lol I was thinking what if Hwang Jung-eum were to be literally cast as the female lead, making the title reflecting reality. The male lead's description does not seem promising yet but who knows Namgoong Min's acting can make him different or he is revealed to be a "Handsome (Funny) Guy".
