Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching

So, what are we all watching this week?

What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…

I’m Not a Robot: Ahh, I really felt for the angst this week, because of how badly both Min-kyu and Jia want the same thing (for the robot to be human). The pain seems so easily remedied by telling the truth, but it made so much sense why the lie had to continue, and I appreciated that it gave our characters the time to explore how keenly they felt that longing in that moment.

Black Knight: I find the tone so weird in this show—or rather, the tonal shifts from light to dark and light again. The tone changes are probably both an asset and a flaw, because I’m never bored by this show but I don’t think its execution does it justice; I do feel like the seams are showing at every turn and it impedes my ability to sink myself into the world. I also find Seo Ji-hye a strangely compelling character, because her petty jealousies can be cute in the present day, but then we’re constantly shown what a vile and wretched human she used to be (and hasn’t learned her lesson yet) and I don’t want to like her or find her appealing.

My Golden Life: I left this show weeks ago, but I have to admit that my curiosity was piqued when I randomly watched this clip, and the idea of love triangle roommate hijinks appealed to me (much more than the suffocating chaebol household). I’m always surprised at how much doesn’t change from week to week in a weekend family show, because I skipped about twenty episodes but felt like I hadn’t missed a beat, even with all the big plot changes. I still don’t really buy the characters or the world of this drama (it feels too simplistic to resonate) but it’s still light and amusing and easy to watch.

I’m Not a Robot: Yoo Seung-ho is really quite dense about the robot not being a robot, but awwww, he was so heartbroken over her not being a real girl this week that it melted my heart. This show can be silly, but they always do a good job of bringing it back to an emotional center that keeps it grounded.

Two Cops: I know that the undercover operation in prison was important for the overall mystery, but I couldn’t get over how easy it was for Jo Jung-seok to just get in and out of prison without anyone batting an eyelash. It’s the kind of plot that would take up a whole other drama’s worth of time to do logically, so instead they just kind of waved a magic wand. Maybe someone watched Mysterious Il-seung and went, Look, you can just walk in and out of prison, easy peasy! Let’s do that!

Jugglers: I enjoyed the denial stage of this romance and wished it would continue a little longer, though I wouldn’t exactly complain about the romantic development, seeing as how it’s a lot more interesting than the office hijinks. For all of his social issues and his emotional stuntedness, this hero sure knows how to be swoony when it counts.

Black Knight started out so well but it is quickly losing me. Just Between Lovers is STUNNING!!! Junho is an amazing actor and the story is really intriguing. Money Flower and Untouchable are my other favorites these days.

1. From the in-tray to the out-tray. I finally completed Temperature of Love last week. The one bean I earned for completing that series I awarded in the 2017 Beanie Awards post to Duel.
2. Prison Playbook. One of the two dramas I am currently watching.
Excellent. I agree with most of the comments. The 90 minute episode format was a bit challenging at first but it allows for nice character/story development. I have been a fan of Jung Kyung-ho since Cruel City. Up until episode 9 I don't think his character called for too much heavy lifting but that changed in episode 9. In JKH's Instagram account he has a lovely reunion picture with Choi Moo-sung (our Min-chul) who played Safari in Cruel City:
https://www.instagram.com/p/Bcox8gglVhc/?hl=en&taken-by=jstar_allallj. Also I picked up another homage to Cruel City where the cell mates referred to another as Dr. Go's son which sounded to me (a non-Korean speaker) as baksa adeul which was the nickname of JKH's character in Cruel City (given to him by Safari IIRC). Sorry for the diversion and I may have screwed the whole thing up.
3. INAR. I am enjoying the series and both leads. After her role in Strongest Deliveryman It is nice to watch Chae Soo-bin not slugging guys.

I'm new to commenting, but have read the site for a while. I'd like to dip my toes into the drama world more thoroughly, especially since my drama watching has gone up so much during winter hibernation.

After finishing Temperature of Love and Revolutionary Couple, I'm watching dramas off my backlog list right now. I might finally finish Winter Sonata, I'm on the back end of that. It feels like more of an obligation, really. I'm also watching (and enjoying) about the half-way mark of Suspicious Partner and a little less so Beautiful Gong Shim, a show I started watching while it was airing, but ran out of time for. Wondering when the 2018 season will start kicking into high gear!

Currently listening to : Just Between Lovers OSTs+Savina & Drones

Currently watching :
JUST BETWEEN LOVERS: Beautiful. Painful. Recommended to those who haven't watch it.
I'M NOT A ROBOT: Cute. I keep finding myself grinning and smiling like a fool while watching this.
PRISON PLAYBOOK: Loving all the little side story about side characters. Tho I found myself having to check what happened last week as I keep forgetting. Too many stories to keep track. haha. I'm a gold fish. The romance between the lead and his girl isn't so strong, but it's okay with me.

Considering/planning on watching :
HWAYUGI: I'm waiting for at least 4 episode aired before starting this one. Quite wary as the review is a bit mixed, tho heavy on the good side.
Black Knight: Watched the 1st episode, but was not hooked. Not a big fan of Shin SeKyung. And then I kept catching a scene or two on KBSW (i have a habit of leaving the TV on while resting at night, eventho I'm not really watching), the flashback scenes intrigues me, now I think I have to watch it. But Shin SeKyung....

Dropped show:
TWO COPS: I can't really pinpoint where this go wrong for me, because i like the male lead and the second male lead, coz dimples, but it somehow doesn't keep me reaching for more. I have no problem with Hyeri, but her character is... bland? unnecessary?

Really wanted to watch, but no subs available! Hoping Netflix would pick one of these up.

Here’s mine:

I’m Not a Robot: I really love Yoo Seung Ho and i’m glad he tried to do rom-com this time. And for Chae Soo Bin, I’m starting to like her. Her acting as Aji3 is very well done.

Prison Playbook: I only tried to watch this because of my love for Jung Hae In but didn’t expect to be addicted. I don’t mind that it is 1.5hrs per episode. There is a lot going on but since it is very enjoying you will not notice the time. And I like it that the story of every character is shown that them leaving affects me (Go baksaaaaa! 😭)

I'm on..
1. I'm not a robot: ep 16
2. Bad guys-vile city: ep 4
3. Just between lovers: ep 1

Dropped:
1. 2 cops
2. Black knight

I'm playing it safe this time. 'Safe' as in watching just 1-2 dramas till the end and save others for later (not until the 7th or 14th episodes aired). But by doing so, it kills my excitement. I lose interest in what will happen next. Hmm...

Love I'm Not a Robot, binged it this week. Love Hwayugi. I tried Black Knight and I thought it was a mess. For me personally, it did not maintain my attention, was all over the place, and jumped around without clearly setting up a story in episode 1. I saw that other viewers felt similarly.

The scene where she was trippin' was so bizarre/amusing/confusing in ep 1, too!

Waiting for Smart Prison Life to come back next week! I'm glad there was a special episode though. The behind-the-scenes were hilarious. So if you guys haven't checked it out yet, you definitely should. It actually might be the best special episode I've ever watched because usually they tend to be poorly put together, but this one I could actually see that they've put a lot of thought into it; even the replay of scenes were good. I might be a little biased since I love this show so much, but you should trust me on this :) It made me love Jung Hae-in even more because of all his smiles in the behind-the-scenes footage. Gosh he's so cute. It's so hard to believe he's already 30 years old. Actually thought he would be more like Park Bo-gum's age.

Hi Beanies.
I've been lurking on this site for years, but this is my first time give comments.

I've been watching Just Between Lovers for last 3 weeks, and I love it to bits!
Ok, I thought I might be biased since I'm a 2PM fan and watch all of their drama 😄
So I'm really happy to read many of Beanies also love it.

Now, I usually watched it on myasiantv. I have no choice, I can't watch it on Viki because this drama is not licensed in my country.
But I'm curious, does anyone know where I can watch it live?
I'm usually patient enough to watch a day until its raw version is uploaded in myasiantv. But now I can't wait, I wanna watch it as soon as possible 😊
Thanks in advance!

Just binged watched episode 1-16 of I Am Not a Robot during new year. ( It was a great way to spend the first day of the year, if I do say so myself) I think I finally found the cure to my last year's drama slump. I am now unable to wait for the next episode to come.

I'm still holding up on watching on any other drama though Hwayugi is looking more and more tempting every episode.

Binge watched Money Flower!
I must say that Jang hyuk performance is fantastic and mind-blowing. Those who are hesitant or who are in a drama slump, watch this! Definitely one of the most intriguing drama of 2017! The directing, acting and storyline are on-point and great! Park Se young looked really pretty in this too :) Looking forward to watching the rest of the drama in the coming weeks

Just Between Lovers is (rightfully) getting all the love here, and I just want to add mine. I have never seen Junho before and had no idea he was an idol-actor until well into this show, which is amazing because I can usually spot them immediately. He's SO GOOD in this role. Truly. He reminds me of my stepfather, who has a frighteningly similar past as this character. Junho acts out so many accurate little quirks of someone in those circumstances, it almost feels like we're voyeuristically peering into the life of an actual person. The other actors are also great, but he's honestly the standout. I agree with those who are less impressed with those in the chaebol roles...definitely the weakness in this drama.

I thought the second leads were boring, but I didn't mind them bc I felt like the writers needed the traditional makjang tropes (Chaebols! Inheritance Battles! Pseudo-Incest!) to attract their audience, but then pushed it all on the second leads so that it wouldn't affect the real story of Gang Doo and Moon Soo just living and healing and being adorable and beautiful people. Until of course this past ep, where the project leader guy is actually INTENTIONALLY throwing Gang Doo under the bus just for a chance with Moon Soo, who clearly is Not Interested. I was so angry at him omg ugh. Ugh. I'm so mad. Why give us so much cute and then rip it away at the last ten minutes it hurts me. DX

Awwwwwwwww Beanies. Thank you for loving Just Between Lovers🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
I really like everything about it (most especially the new lead girl ) so I was so sad to see that DB wasn't recapping it. I thought then that maybe people didn't like it (i sort of have this belief that shows not recapped on DB aren't good enough lol) but I'm glad to see I was wrong!

What I'm watching:
Black Knight: tbh this show is so beautiful and romantic. I love the OSTs as well. It just puts me in a kind of feel-good mood. Really glad I started it. I live for the cheesy scenes between the main couples. Of all the shows i watch, this is the one I'm mostly looking forward to every week Sadly, it'll end next week....

Just between lovers: I have to admit I was starting to lose interest in the show until the last 2 episodes. Why? The show goes sooo slowly. Like, after 10 episodes, you realize that not much has been accomplished. Whether it's the construction, character growth or just plot. Why I keep watching it is because it's an easy, lighthearted drama I can watch when I need to de-stress or when I'm bored. I'm not hopelessly looking forward to new episodes. Certainly not binge-worthy but still an easy watch

Money flower: every week is a different kind of ride. The thing about this show is that it's so exhilarating. Keeps me at the edge of my seat everytime even when I can guess what'll happen next (Which is not often). It also helps that I love Jang Hyuk so much and would literally watch ANYTHING with him in it.

Others: Master key (trying to catch up on episodes I missed) and Scholar Who Walks The Night ( after watching moon lovers, I discovered LJG and now I'm obssessed)
