Jang Dong-gun, Park Hyung-shik team up for remake of Suits
by girlfriday
Wow, that’s one hell of a leading cast. Jang Dong-gun (VIP) is coming back to dramaland five years after his last drama, A Gentleman’s Dignity, in the new KBS drama remake of the popular American series Suits. And the happy news doesn’t stop there: Rising star Park Hyung-shik (Strong Woman Do Bong-soon) will be the other half of the two-top drama, about a hotshot lawyer and the young genius he (illegally) takes under his wing.
Suits, which has been on for seven seasons on cable network USA, is a slick, fast-talking legal drama about New York City’s best closer (Harvey Specter), and the down-on-his-luck legal genius (Mike Ross) he hires as his associate… even though he’s never gone to law school. Mike is a college dropout who illegally takes the bar exam for other people to make money, so he’s a walking encyclopedia of legal knowledge, especially since he’s a genius who never forgets something he reads once. He ends up crashing a job interview for Harvey’s new associate position, and Harvey is so impressed that he hires him, and thus begins their risky partnership.
Jang Dong-gun has signed on to play Harvey’s counterpart, charismatic lawyer Choi Kyung-seo, a legend at the top law firm in Korea. Harvey’s character oozes charm and confidence, so Jang Dong-gun is pitch-perfect for the role, and a huge get for the remake. Park Hyung-shik has been confirmed to play the young genius associate, Go Yeon-woo, who learns the ropes under his new mentor’s tutelage. I’ve been impressed with Park Hyung-shik in all of his roles thus far, and I’m excited to see him try a different genre and character (say, not a chaebol).
Fingers are crossed for the remake to retain the same fast-paced, energetic feel of the original series. The writer, Kim Jung-min, is unknown, but I have high hopes for PD Kim Jin-woo, who directed the moody, visually strong Mystery Queen earlier this year (and was also the second PD on Healer). KBS Media (Seven Day Queen, The Best Hit) and Monster Union (Dreamcide) will collaborate on the production of the remake, which is being planned for a 2018 broadcast on KBS.

OH.MY.GOSH.
I AM EXCITE. This sounds potentially amazing and I have no doubt Hyung Sik is going to blow it out of the water. He literally oozes charm from every pore.
I wonder if this remake is going to match the american one, character for character. And in that case, I'm looking forward to seeing who plays Donna and Jessica!

This post is running away with comments - one can always tell a popular actor by the number of comments on a news post by DB. Yay! I'm glad to see Park Hyung Sik doing so well!

Oh wow! I honestly have not watched any of the Korean remakes of US TV shows but I might check this out. Never seen Suits but I have a friend who's obsessed with it.

Original: Paper thin characters. Really bad acting. Pretentious writing. Substitutes sex for heart. It's really not worth wasting time on.
But, the premise is great. If they thoroughly Korean-ize the show, it might become a worthy version of itself for these actors.

You don't like it, that fine. But the series isn't in it's seventh season, because of bad acting and paper thin characters. And substitutes sex for Heart? How?

OMG! Who's playing Jessica? More specifically, who's playing Jessica's stylist? Suits should've been called Dresses because her wardrobe always left me deceased 💀

I will keep my high hopes because of The Good Wife (it was a well done remake)...
Now, I need to now who will be playing Jessica, because, she was the best for me... I mean, in the original she is so full of charm, presence and a sensational woman and I simply love her, the best presence of leader women in the show. I faithfully hope they don't change the gender of her character.

Dang, I was waiting for this post last night, but I had to go to bed. LOL
I’m not familiar with Suits, but my sister watches it. She watches American TV shows whereas I watch kdramas. I can’t wait to tell her about this though. xD
I really want to see Park Hyung Sik in a strong, meaty role. But a remake? UGHHHH those dramas often disappoint. Still bummed over Korean Criminal Minds and still haven’t finished it yet.

I hope it will be just as good as The Good Wife remake! I can totally see Park Hyungshik as the alter-Mike. Hopefully they cast the ladies and Louis right too! The chemistry of the ensemble is key!

OH YESH YESH YESSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Suits is definitely one of my most favorite American TV series. Honestly, the legal probs are a bit meh because they just recycled it again and again (with different characters as "enemy") though with a tad different closure from Harvey but what I love the best from Suits are the slick and savage dialogues between those characters. I mean who doesn't agree that one of the reason they watches suits is for Harvey being such a badass?? I'm I could totally see Jang Donggun in that. Though, I don't know about Hyungshik's Mike but I'm more than ready to see a messy Hyungshik! YESH! But though, please don't go entourage way pls don't go entourage way please don't go entourage way.
PS. If they would ignore those loveline (which I doubt) can they just ignore Mike's loveline instead of Harvey's because if we would not even get Darvey in a Korean Drama we won't get it anywhere else.

I'm with you on ignoring Mike's loveline. (I don't really think it's a loveline btw, it looked more like pure lust to me.) The girl was really the character that made me drop the show when she started to take up more screen time. I disliked her acting and also the character.

I am not familiar with Suits. I've heard of it, but have never watched it, nor do I have any idea that it was about a lawyer and his illegal protege. But I like both of these actors, so it I'll be looking forward to this. I just hope it's a better remake than Criminal Minds is turning out to be.

Super look forward to this, even if the role isn't a chaebol's I'm sure Park Hyung Shik will be great. If I remember correctly, Mike is kind of a straight man to Harvey in way, so after his turn in SWDBS, I'm looking forward to this.

Super excited about this! I really like the cast! Please drama god, let this be a good one! I had watched maybe the first two seasons of suits before I dropped it but I can definitely see a good Korean version remake. If it turns out to be another Criminal Minds, I will probably curse KBS for wasting such good ensembles.

A remake of Suits? Hmm, I'm kinda iffy about K-drama remakes of US shows. Especially since I actually watched Suits and I think it would be pretty hard to capture the magic of characters like Louis and Donna.
Can't think of who to cast for Louis but I kind of see Kim Hyun Joo as a good candidate for Donna. Her character in What Happens to My Family was a sassy secretary and I think she could pull of the Donna sass and sophisticated, sultry vibe.

Also, I can picture having Kim Seo Hyung (Empress Ki, The Good Wife) as Jessica. She has the necessary kickass, no nonsense vibe to me.
