A second teaser has been released for MBC’s sageuk romance Ruler–Master of the Mask, starring Yoo Seung-ho (Remember–Son’s War) as a lonely crown prince forced to hide his face behind a mask. But… why on earth would anybody hide that face? It’s a crime against humanity, I say. Apparently it’s a mystery to the prince himself, and he begins to question the reason he must remain hidden from the world in the drama’s latest teaser.

The story set in Joseon is about a shadow organization that’s out to privatize the water supply to line their greedy pockets and make the rich richer, and a lonely righteous crown prince who is determined to protect his people. Kim So-hyun (Bring It On, Ghost) co-stars as a young woman determined to get revenge on the prince for ordering the execution of her father, but that revenge will take a big turn when she falls in love with the prince instead.

Yoon So-hee (Memory) plays a tragic figure who will betray her family for love—she’s the granddaughter of the shadow organization’s leader, played by Heo Joon-ho (Beautiful Mind), and she’ll forsake her corrupt family in order to love the prince. Infinite’s L (She’s So Lovable) is the poor son of a butcher with a brilliant mind who becomes a stand-in for the prince. Now that we know the mask is literal, this explains how someone else could act as a double for the prince.

The show’s second teaser opens with Yoo Seung-ho asking his father, “If I take off this mask, will more people die?” As Kim So-hyun brandishes a sword in the street and is overtaken by soldiers, Yoo Seung-ho fights the shadow organization with his mask on. He continues in voiceover, “Why are you killing them all? What is the real reason I must wear this mask? Please tell me!”

I’m interested to see if this drama will pull off the prince’s hidden identity storyline in a cool way, because there’s a lot of potential in the mask, the faceless prince, and the stand-in pauper. It’s something that Hwarang explored recently, though not with enough depth to be completely satisfying, and I’d love a meaty version with complex twists and turns and mixed-up lovelines.

Ruler–Master of the Mask is directed by PD Noh Do-chul (Mom’s Garden, Soulmate) and comes from newbie writers Park Hye-jin and Jung Hae-ri. It follows Radiant Office on Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning May 10.

Yoo Seung Ho + Kim So Hyun in a sageuk is daebak but we need a good writing & directing to complete the masterpiece. The teaser is good!!! & I've been wanting this kind of heroine in a (fusion) sageuk before. A bad ass sword fighter with strong will. I just hope her character doesn't get dragged when she falls inlove with the prince. You know what I mean haha

Please let this be good. This is one of the few dramas of 2017 that I am eagerly anticipating. The mask looks a bit weird for me, but I guess it will grow on me once I see it often.

I like the troupe of the faceless prince. But I just could not relate it to my logic just yet over the mask to accentuate the troupe. The trailer looks good thoug. But I still find the mask is rather weird. So, this is the combo of Moon Lovers (the mask) and the faceless prince (Hwarang). The combination of my two fave actors, Lee Jun Ki + Park Hyung Sik = Yoo Seung Ho. Not bad at all.

All I get from the mask is a vibe of The Man in the Iron Mask and a young Leonardo DiCaprio hiding behind that hideous mask.

Initially, I thought the idea of mask was more figurative with L's character as the King's 'mask' since it happens in the Joseon era where something so simple could have a poetic meaning.
And a lot of people have cited that the King's mask was too modern but i think if he wore a traditional mask, he would resemble the character of Gaksital too much, strengthened by the fact both have dual identities which conver hate and admiration respectively.

HEE! girlfriday, you speak my mind on that. (My Yoo Seung Ho biased talking)
I find the mask odd at first but after rewatching, I get used to it & even find it attractive (& hot?!). I also got to appreciate the details of it. It looks like an Iron Mask in a Joseon Era style.

The promo has started & all I wanted to pray to the dramagods until May 10 is to let this show be good.

I also thought that her acting in goblin was amazing too. She was a cameo but she made a huge impact imo. Especially when she was talking to the kind before she died. She's really someone who just needs her eyes to convey emotions.And school 2015... I looved the drama but the ending was a no from me... It had really good acting and was good up until the last few episodes. I definitely recommend I hear your voice though.

Joy isn't bashing Kim Sohyun—she didn't say that SH only ever acts with that one expression in every drama she's in; she just said that she always sees SH with that expression in the ones she watched.

I see Sohyun as a very good actor, but I actually know that expression Joy is referring to; I think it's SH's neutral expression, the one where one corner of her mouth is slightly upturned. Also, in The Moon That Embraces the Sun, which most people probably know about even if they didn't watch it, she did act as an unlikeable character, so if Joy came across stills from then, I can see how it could add to that impression.

I know that recently there has been an influx of commenters who post hateful comments, but it'll be good if we try our best to avoid jumping to conclusion & accusing normal comments as hate comments.

That's always the initial impression she gets from people who haven't seen her act, and perhaps that's also the reason why she gets cast as stereotypical teenage villains in the past a lot. She looks mean at first glance. She doesn't smile a lot either, so that doesn't help. She's naturally introverted and shy, and it's a rarity to see her laugh and when she does, she has a habit of covering her mouth, which is a bummer because I love it when she smiles and laughs without thinking about what other people might say.

Can't get over the second teaser. It looks interesting especially on the part where KSH grab her sword. I would love to see Kim So Hyun playing a badass heroine. It will be more interesting if she will have a fighting scenes.

I doubt KSH will fall in love on him even before she finds out his identity. lol! Can't wait for this drama. May please come quickly

But her character description is still vague. We just know she's a noble woman aiming to get her revenge (but how exactly?) I hope this 2nd teaser lives out what it have shown -- kim so hyun fighting with a sword. Ga Eun FTW!

I was not that interested in this drama but this teaser and post has ratcheted up my interest. I really hope they pull off the reasoning and mystery behind the mask in a deep and credible way. This drama has huge potential to be awesome (but also potential to fail horribly).

I'm just disappointed the beautiful Yoo Seung-ho is covering his beautiful face! Blasphemy I SAY!

KSH is good with chemistry with her leading man, heck she can even pull chemistry with someone older than her 11 years. So I wouldn't worry about the romance. Im sure the love story part would be jjang.

based on what he's saying in the teaser I think his people knows that the prince always has a mask on. I think the hidden identity piece will be more when he has his mask off and I presume he will meet his love that way so she has no way of knowing that he's the prince.

The plot for this so confusing and busy to me. How many episode is it because they will have a lot to cover?

And why do both of the women have to fall in love with their enemy. Silly women and their weak hearts the moment a hot prince comes along, right? They'd better not spend the second half weeping and being the support for the men and all their manly important conflicts. Kdrama tend to do women and their character development so bad the second they fall in love.
