Beware This Woman becomes Suspicious Partner, secures main cast

Ji Chang-wook, Nam Ji-hyun, Choi Tae-joon, Nara

Woohoo, we’ve finally got a heroine locked down for SBS’s romantic comedy Beware This Woman, which has now changed its title to Suspicious Partner. Ji Chang-wook (The K2) and Nam Ji-hyun (Shopping King Louis) are confirmed to star in the story about young lawyers going up against a world filled with prejudice, and growing up through the sacrifices they make. Choi Tae-joon (Missing 9) and Hello Venus idol Nara have also signed on to round out the main cast.

The new legal thriller rom-com comes from PD Park Sun-ho, assistant director on Legend of the Blue Sea, and writer Kwon Ki-young of I Remember You, All About My Romance, and Protect the Boss. Ji Chang-wook plays a Jack of all trades who’s good at everything from sports to music, and becomes a prosecutor to live out the life that his father wanted to live. Nam Ji-hyun plays a junior Taekwondo athlete who fought tooth and nail to get through law school and is now a junior prosecutor in training. In previous casting stories there were different tidbits about the plot—an amnesiac killer is after them, the heroine is a murder suspect, and the hero enters the private sector as an attorney—but we’ll have to wait and see how everything comes together.

Choi Tae-joon plays a lawyer with complicated family relationships who had a particularly harsh adolescence. In real life Choi Tae-joon and Ji Chang-wook are buddies, so hopefully they’ll get to have a bromance and won’t end up romantic rivals in the drama. Hello Venus’s Nara will play a prosecutor and Ji Chang-wook’s ex-girlfriend in the drama. She’s still interested in him when she returns from working abroad and will try everything to get his attention, from acting pitiful to confident to sexy. But Ji Chang-wook’s lack of reaction will make her sad, and in stopping by his house all the time, she’ll run into Choi Tae-joon’s character and start having strange feelings towards him.

I don’t know what to expect of the supporting leads, but Ji Chang-wook and Nam Ji-hyun are so great that I’m in it for them and no one else really matters. I like the idea that there might be two separate lovelines, so let’s cross our fingers for that. I mean, with an amnesiac killer on the loose, we might barely have enough time for one romance as it is!

Suspicious Partner airs on Wednesdays and Thursdays following Saimdang, Light’s Diary in May.

Im watching Shopping King Louie, kinda skip it before. Nam Ji Hyun is so badass. Her character is strong but loveable.

I like this pairing. And Chae Tae Joon. His killing in Missing 9 still giving me creep.

I only worry how they can be on time for the broadcast, they only have few weeks away.

The rating war gonna be so tense. Ji Chang Wook, Park Min Young, Yoo Seung Ho, Joo Won, Park Seo Joon, Kim Ji Won, Nam Ji Hyun, Kim So Hyun, Oh Yeon Seo plus Yeo Jin Goo, Yoo Ah In, Im So Young, Park Hye Jin.

Wed-Thu
KBS: Seven Day Queen - May 31
SBS: Suspicious Partner - May 10
MBC: Ruler: Master of the Mask - May 10

Mon-Tue
KBS: Third Rate My Way - May 8 (15)
SBS: My Sassy Girl - May 22
MBC: Lookout - May 15
TVN: Circle - May 15

I guess the best way for May is skip them all then watch them later lol. Its impossible to choose. How Korean Audience gonna choose? We have almost no romance first quarter than it goes in full force.

It's tough for Korean audience for us i-fand we can watch them all anytime, i like watching dramas while they air, if I marathon i tend to skip episodes that i feel they're fillers or irritating, but if I watch while airing i am forced to watch the whole thing.

I can't wait to see who will win this battle it's hard to root for since all the dramas competing has good actors and i am fan of the most but i root for Ruler because of Kim So Hyun.

Clarification on the statement above: Korean viewers have the ability to watch the rebroadcasts of first-run dramas several times over after their initial airings. So if the shows are not watched the first time around, there's always later in the week to catch up.

But this will be a good indication of where the viewers' loyalties lie - with a sageuk or with a rom-com. We'll see on 10 May!

P.S. SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! :P

I would be watching suspicious partner first and then ruler of mask I think. I'm not much fan of park min young or YJW, so there's that. Also I guess if sageuk dramas are not done well, people tend to avoid them..contrast to that suspicious partner is a romcom, plus thriller, I can sense another SWDBS, minus the strength part. But yeah as international fans we don't have to choose one over another. For mon-tues, circle and third rate my way look promising. Though wish I could watch chun woo hee for the first time on drama land.
Nam Ji Hyun was quite bad ass when she went on a running spree with the halmoni, loved that scene.

LOL, I don't know which ones should I watch, other than JCW's drama since it's a given. Since I love sageuk, I may try Ruler and My Sassy Girl. But I also wanna watch PSH-KJW and YJG dramas. Decision, decision...

For star power alone, I think the ratings will go to:

Mon-Tue: Ruler: Master of the Mask

Wed-Thu: My Sassy Girl

But the underdogs may rise to the top if the story and directing are good.

Well SKL was an underdog against jealousy incarnate too. But then it came first in rating within couple of weeks. So yeah it depends. JCW also is a star in his own merit I would say. Here's to hoping that the story's gonna be alright.

Thanks for summarizing that. Every time I read about upcoming dramas that I'm interested in, they're all in May! I wonder why they scheduled it like that. Like I have not had a Wednesday Thursday drama to watch this year and I'm interested in all those in May

Fortunately, or perhaps unfortunately, who knows, I AM going to have to skip most of them and watch them later, because I'm travelling 28th of April - 16th of July, won't have a laptop and won't have much chance to watch anything!!!!

At least I'll have all these goodies plus more to come back to.

dear C. your schedules comes useful, so i have borrowed and posted on soompi for few of the dramas 'affected' by the major Stations' wars, coz i know some of us (me esp) will be chasing after all 3 at the same timing. so we really need the time table to organize.

so sorry, i 'ask' your permission to copy your 'findings' after i posted. but i need quote you. thanks for taking time to find out the details.

Oh ye!! *Bong Soon's tone*
Nam Ji Hyun is in!
Although I like the title 'be careful this woman' because it sounds more like a female-centric drama, Perhaps Suspicious Partner is more appropriate for the story if they opt to change it.
But still, I'm looking forward to a ass-kicking heroine, her taekwondo title needs to be showcased right?

Love that Nam Ji Hyun was casted as the female lead. She is so lovable and warm actress.
I saw her for the first time in Queen Seon Deok and she was really good. She did good as well in Hwayi. But it's her recent shows like What Happens to My Family? and Shopping King Louie that made her shine and transitioning to adult roles, she was a gem in both of them.
I'm looking forward to her taekwondo skills in the drama, I'm sure she can pull it of.

As for the main lead, LOVE Ji Chang Wook!!! He sure looks more mature than her, but then I remembered the role of Healer (the part he played a dorky) and he was so adorable. I can already picture them together and be extremelly cute!

I expect that they will have separated love-line. I did enjoy watch I remember you, but i love Protect the Boss more. The writer has a taste of woman center and not childish and annoying second female lead.

The premise too sounds similiar to Protect the Boss. Second Female lead is the ex-of male lead. And the male and second male lead are friends/sibling. I enjoyed so much their rivalry. Hope it will go that way too.

Also the second female lead, i dont know her for sure, even her girl group i dont know. Hahahha..... So i will go with pure intention to watch her skill. Hope wont disappoint us. See After School's Nana got a lot of love on her first acting on The Good Wife. I will expect that too...
Think about it, why they didn't cast Nana? Hohoo...

Agreed about this author and second female leads - Protect the Boss has one of the most lovable second leads ever, and she got a separate loveline too, and it was adorable!

Also I think I'm one of like three people who watched All About My Romance, but that was a pretty good show, and while the second female lead started out annoying, she had an interesting arc by the end. Plus I loved the strong, outspoken, smart heroine in that drama. (And the chemistry between the OTP!)

I loved the second female lead in PtB. She cracked me up. She was so pitiful. The fact that no one liked her and her only friend was the main girl who was her romantic rival was pure gold. I still remember the scene where her co-workers sent her home early from a work dinner because she was drunk but she was like 'I didn't drink any alcohol though!'. Poor thing.

I predict "Nara" is going to be both annoying as a character and terrible as an actress. There will be comparisons, for good and ill, to the tiresome work Suzy did in Big. Everyone except Venus fans will heartily wish her off the screen. We will be told, several times, how nice she is as a person, how hard she is working, and how she is trusting in her sunbaes to help her. There, I think I've covered everything.

Even second lead is too big for her if she has no acting experience before. But then this is not the first time.

As long as what happened in Cinderella & 4K won't happen again - where the second female lead who is an idol out of sudden stole the screentimes of main female lead, I think I will be OK.

Park So Dam was so great at the beginning, poor her in the middle she was like nothing. sighhh. What made me more perplexed is the audiences also dislike the second female lead, from the character to the actress herself (her acting) , I see no point the writer /PD increased her screentimes though.

A drama that had every single potential to become a cliche and fluffy drama that we can at least enjoy the drama, but they ruined it for us.

0

Yes I hope for this drama, she won't be clingy for a long time. Choi Tae Joon is good though, I see his potential.

0

With zero experience you know they cut a huge deal to get her in there. Who even heard of this girl group? Who ever heard of her? I expect her producer has some serious dirt on someone over at the studio, or forked over some serious cash. To whomever argues that work always goes to the talented, I provide exhibit B.

Nam Ji Hyun and the writer of I Remember You?? Add Ji Chang Wook to it and it already sounds like winning show. Adding Choi Tae Joon is like a cherry on the top! He was frigging scary in Missing 9 and I am already wondering if he is a villain in disguise in this show!

Yes there is no article yet on DB, and I am hoping they would squeeze one in in the News Bites side this week, because I am so need to do more counselling together with the other SIG fangirls, just like @Boomboompow said, ?
Yes he released 2 songs actually; Better Together and Mint Chocolate, and I have been listening to these 2 songs diligently since his departure to the army on the 28th. But I loved Mint Chocolate so so much more, maybe because it was an upbeat track, just like his Bebe song. But his ballad song really is good, Seo Inguk really amazes me with his endless talents, and someone please stop me before I go on talking non stop about my bae, ??

0

Yup he enlisted quietly on 28th, without any fanfare.. i was somehow very proud of him :) The songs are heart-breakingly emotional, and the video- Oh my! Did u guys check out the lyrics... it's basically a song for his love of fans.. he is bloody awesome... I heard somewhere that another video or something will be released tomorrow (31st March).. Waiting for it!

And yes, I am waiting for Dramabeans to post something about his enlistment. I need all the fangirls who always come out when his name is mentioned in a DB article! We can mourn together!

0

I am stoked.

I love Ji Changwook and I'm so happy he'll do a rom-com after Healer (!!!), The K2 (meh) and Fabricated City. It doesn't hurt the fact that I absolutely love thrillers, I Remember You AND Nam Jihyun.

(Okay the last part reminded me of Seo Inguk and now I'm sad all over again from his enlistment two days ago)

I sometimes hate them too, especially the one who jumps directly into lead roles without taking supporting roles first, that's stealing the job opportunities of the young promising actors who aspires only in acting, those idols from SM, YG, JYP, and those other big companies, at least if they're stealing they should be good at it, not suck at it ffs.

But sometimes I love them too, almost half of my fave actors were idols, like the two ZE:A boys, Lee Joon, and Yoon Do Joon

I have love-hate relationship with idols hahaha

Although she is not as awesome as Jeon Hye Bin but she is still far better than some other female guests there, and she does work hard in that show. In some cases, she is even better than the male guests.
As for acting skill I haven't seen her in anything. I hope she work hard too and impress anyone who belittle her. Just like Nana and Ryu Hwayoung did to me last year.

I am a HelloVenus fan (HelloCupid, if you will) through and through, and Nara is easily my bias of the group without a doubt. That being said, I still don't really know how she got such an important and large role so early on in her acting career. I'm happy for her, I really am, and I'm sure it will bring a nice amount of promotion for the group as well. However, I just can't shake off the fact that somethings a little dodgy here, no matter how hard I try to keep the rose tinted glasses on.

For one, she has very little acting experience - she made a cameo in the first episode of 'Entertainer' last year, where she really didn't do a whole lot. She only had, like, 2 lines. Not much to really make a solid judgement. Her other 'roles' in other dramas were also just simple cameos. To suddenly jump to a supporting role is extremely surprising, even to a die-hard biased/deluded fanboy like me. In fact, when I read that Nara was going to 'star' in an upcoming SBS drama, I had thought it was just another mindless cameo, not an actual important, large supporting role.

Regardless, what's done is done, and despite the really bad feeling I have in the bottom of my stomach, I really hope that I'm just being a negative potato-head for no reason. BEST-CASE SCENARIO, she's going to blow us all away with her amazing acting skills that she had stored away in her locker for the past 26 years of her life, and I REALLY HOPE that's the case.

Here's hoping that it turns out to be a perfect casting choice.
