First teaser for Missing 9 crash-lands onto the scene
by chickachunga
The very first teaser is out for MBC’s new mystery drama Missing 9, and it wastes no time in setting up the high-concept premise and introducing us to the nine plane crash survivors who must fend for themselves on a remote island.
The teaser opens with a plane suddenly plunging into its descent. Inside the luxurious private plane, oxygen masks dangle from the ceiling and passengers hang on for dear life as water surges into the cabin. In a creative use of numbers (that sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t), we meet our first passenger, “1eader” Jung Kyung-ho (One More Happy Ending), who plays a has-been pop star who used to lead an idol band, but is now barely hanging onto his celebrity status. Though he’s hit rock bottom in his career, he finds the strength and determination to lead the other stranded victims in their fight for survival.
Then we have Kim Sang-ho (Bring It On, Ghost) as the “Pre2ident” of talent agency Legend Entertainment, and Oh Jung-se (Beautiful Mind) as the loyal “Mana3er” to Jung Kyung-ho. Chanyeol (To the Beautiful You) plays the handsome “supersta4,” a renowned artist/composer who used to be in the same band as Jung Kyung-ho, but found greater success as a solo musician. He’ll serve as the much needed ray of light for the stranded.
Choi Tae-joon (Flower in Prison) assumes the mantle of “Trou5lemaker” and plays the former bandmate of Jung Kyung-ho and Chanyeol, who ventured into acting following the band’s fallout and was enjoying his second career boom. On the island, his egotistical nature sparks disharmony and doesn’t make island survival any easier. Lee Sun-bin (Police Unit 38) plays the top celebrity of Legend Entertainment. She’s the “Prin6ess” who doesn’t mince words, but hides a dark secret.
Tae Hang-ho (Moonlight Drawn By Clouds) plays the Head “Secre7ary” of Legend Entertainment, and Ryu Won (Uncontrollably Fond) is the mature and accountable billboard model and Hallyu star, and also the group’s “8utsider.”
Last, but not least, we have Baek Jin-hee (My Daughter Geum Sa-wol) taking on the role of Jung Kyung-ho’s rookie stylist and eventual love interest who becomes the sole remaining survivor of the nine, ergo the only “E9ewitness” to the devastating plane crash and its aftermath. The country will turn to her for answers, but how much of the harrowing truth she’ll reveal is uncertain because there’s something holding her back.
Quick flashes of bloodied, wet, and anguished faces show the quick downward spiral of the stranded passengers who struggle to beat the elements and make it out alive. The copy reads, “Top Star x Private Plane x Emergency Landing,” ending with “9 survivors, a mysterious corpse, and just one eyewitness.”
I’ll admit to not being very interested in this drama as it was going through a plethora of creative, casting, and title changes, but I’m surprised to see it shape up nicely into what appears to be an ambitious, dark, and electrifying tale. I’m very interested to see how they film the island scenes and whether or not the island will become a character in and of itself.
Missing 9 will air on MBC on Wednesdays and Thursdays and is set to premiere in January 2017.

Maybe it's just because of the editing style of the trailer, but I'm getting Liar Game vibes...it has the same "homicidal reality show" feel, lol. ?
I'm still a little worried this might end up a bit of a mess... But I have a lot of faith in the Police Unit 38 writer, so that abates most of it.
I feel like this show has taken on a bit of an underdog quality with all the set-backs and reworks it's gone under. I want it to be good, simply because I don't think anyone is expecting it to be.

That numbers thing is pretty redonk-- In my head I always start to say the number, which just makes it silly. That US show "Numb3rs" will always be "Numbthers" to me.

a part of me misses the incarnation of this show that had kang ha neul beeing romantically stranded on the island and entertaining me with light comedy (likely involving some kind of waterfall shower) but like you I look forward to this version - it could be a gloriously entertaining mess or even really good.

I want to watch this. I am intrigued, but this show has me vacillating between being reassured that I already know everyone dies, so I won't get attached and I can relax and let them be obliterated, or knowing that if it's any good at all I will totally get attached anyway and spend a great deal if time being sad/mad with the show for sucking me in.

I bet the corpse is the pilot's. I mean, there has to be someone driving the plane otherwise they're just stupid for boarding!

Dang the teaser looks gripping! I kinda thought they'd go at it slowly and build up the mystery some more, but I like the teaser. It really shows a dire situation. I like how they incorporated the 9 numbers into each cast member's title too.

One night, they succeed in making a small fire. They blow out the fire when dawn breaks.
The Goblin appears and says, "I will grant you one wish."
Everyone is stunned.
The girl stylist is the first to recover.
First she shrieks, "Gong Yoo, I love you!"
Then she yells, "I want to get back to the real world!"
That's how she became the only survivor.

If I'll get to see some epic witty remarks from Jung Kyung Ho then I'll be in. But I have doubts about PCY's acting. Let's see how he does and hope for the best.

Noooo don't want her to be the only survivor and everyone else to die. Shouldn't they have not told us about that ? It's a huge spoiler lol. And even in Hunger Games Katniss and Peeta both survived :'(

Well now I'm hooked. Even though the teaser could be totally deceiving me into believing this is good. But anyways I will give it a try... for Jung Kyung Ho and the premise.

Never saw LOST, but I know it was hugely popular. This drama looks interesting and I thought the numbers thing was fun, lol. Interesting way to grab viewers attention. It might be cringey to i-netz and I assume the savvy Korean internet users will have seen American shows so this number thing isn't new to them, but the ahjummas and ahjusshis might think it's cool =]

Ambitious disaster shows tend to fail to live up to its expectation, so I'm not expecting anything from this one. This drama seems, well, ambitious, and it seems like it's missing something, but I guess I'll try watching.
It'll be great if this succeeds, disaster dramas are actually refreshing in the midst of political, fantasy stories.

Had zero interest in this at the beginning (even w/ Lee Seon-bin), but chances are, the writing will be good as PU38 and "Bad Guys" were excellent.

Love mystery thriller of this kind. So I would love to catch on it when it premieres ! Hopefully it won't fail us like what "God's Gift - 14 Days" ending did to most of us.
