Suzy confirms supernatural romance While You Were Sleeping

It’s official: Suzy (Uncontrollably Fond) has signed on to star opposite Lee Jong-seok (W–Two Worlds) in the new drama While You Were Sleeping, from hit writer Park Hye-ryun of Pinocchio, I Hear Your Voice, and Dream High. The supernatural romance has also found a home at SBS, and PD Oh Choong-hwan of SBS’s medical romance Doctors will take the helm. This will be Lee Jong-seok’s third series with writer Park, and Suzy’s second after 2011’s Dream High, in which she made her acting debut.

While You Were Sleeping will be a legal supernatural drama, much like I Hear Your Voice—that series was about a public defender and a boy who could read minds, while this one is about a prosecutor and a girl who sees the future. Suzy has been cast as a young woman who has dreams about bad things that are about to happen to other people, and Lee Jong-seok will play the prosecutor who fights to stop those tragedies from coming true.

I expect the PD of Doctors to be a good fit for the contemporary romance; that show had the pitfall of seeming visually pretty but empty of substance at times, but with this writer I don’t have that worry at all, since she always delivers great characters and a compelling story. I’m really not enthused about Suzy’s casting, but I’ve always found something to like about the heroines in this writer’s dramas, so I’m going to keep an open mind and hope for the best. Maybe the drama will reward my optimism by keeping it light and funny and melo-free, with some chemistry on top.

While You Were Sleeping is being planned for a 2017 broadcast on SBS.

It's like her reps just saw how badly Uncontrollably Fond ended out, and they said 'Get her in a drama with Lee Jong Suk NOW! He'll carry her back to stardom!!!!"

I don't understand the hate for Suzy casting, her acting is not that bad and I doubt all the people that criticize her actually watch her drama without having this biased mindset that 'she's suck'

I mean, come on...nobody actually force you to watch this drama, if you don't like it don't watch it...simply as that

There are people who actually excited for this couple and drama like me :) so please don't spoil our mood with all this negativity, you guys should be the judges for oscar or something with all your incredible judging on acting

I'm actually really excited for this drama~~~~
can't wait for 2017, I love Lee Jong Suk and I love Suzy, so this is like my wishlist kdrama couple that come true <3

No no, not true. I watched both her movie and the drama Unc. Fond with Kim Woo Bin knowing nothing about her acting and I just sat through the episodes cringing at each line, each delivery, each scene until I just decided that she is a horrible actress. I have no bias against her, I think she is cute and I'm sure she's a nice girl but she just can't act. I don't think audiences need to like her simply because she's "Suzy" and popular - which is probably the reason why she keeps getting casted even though she can't act - and I think THAT'S not right. Give the role to an actress who can actually act. Not to a K-Pop idol just because she's pretty and popular.

Why do they keep casting her?? First Kim Woo Bin, and now the sacrificial lamb is Lee Jong Suk?? Both fantastic actors stuck with the unbelievably horrible acting that is Suzy. I have nothing against the girl, but she should just recognize that acting is not a talent she possesses and just stop it already. For the sake of all viewers.

I know the "kind" thing to do is to say we'll keep an open mind and hope for the best. But no matter how great the script, if the actor can't deliver the depth then it's just going to stink up the scene. I'm just not happy about this casting news, esp being a fan of LJS.

My sentiments exactly. I was so excited about this project... now I just feel like my heart has shattered into a million pieces. I'm sure the writer will write a memorable story with great characters, and I'm sure she would be able to write a character tailor's to Suzy's extremely limited acting ability, but I don't think it's the writer's job to do so. If Suzy wants to be an actress - which I am certain she has no interest to be one - then she should start working hard at it: take acting lessons and hone her craft.

I'm just worried what the results will be. I want this drama to do well; however, if it does (and Suzy still does a horrible job in acting) it could propel her agency to think that Suzy is a good actress after all... That would be a nightmare. Stop taking on roles, Suzy. Please...

NOOOOO, Im scared for this drama...I love LJS, but not loving Suzy as his partner. I really LOVE LJS, and he deserves someone much better as the girl main lead. Well originally Im not a big fan of Suzy, soooooooo...just my opinion. And yea I didnt like Uncontrollably Fond either, stopped watching it in the beginning few episodes

Dramabeans had become infested with oppa fangirls.

I can't take this site seriously when their comments are mostly about bashing and already devoid of logic due to idk jealousy perhaps? I mean Suzy's acting was good in Uncontrollably fond and definitely wonderful in Sound of Flower.

My worry is actually with LJS but I don't really care since I like the writer.

Happy to see LJS in a new drama. I recently watched W, Pinocchio and Doctor Stranger and I really like him as an actor. I watched Suzy in UF...she was not that bad. Could have been worse. I did not manage to finish that drama as the story was just too depressing. lol.
Hope she will do okish...

I liked her in Gu Family Book. paired with a good actor like Lee Seung Gi helped and she was charming.
Lee Jong Suk is so charming that he can have amazing chemistry with a piece of toast xD (Pinocchio memories~) Granted, she isn't the best actress, I'm sure LJS can help at least bring good chemistry :) also they are both very pretty to look at xD
