Suzy confirms supernatural romance While You Were Sleeping

It’s official: Suzy (Uncontrollably Fond) has signed on to star opposite Lee Jong-seok (W–Two Worlds) in the new drama While You Were Sleeping, from hit writer Park Hye-ryun of Pinocchio, I Hear Your Voice, and Dream High. The supernatural romance has also found a home at SBS, and PD Oh Choong-hwan of SBS’s medical romance Doctors will take the helm. This will be Lee Jong-seok’s third series with writer Park, and Suzy’s second after 2011’s Dream High, in which she made her acting debut.

While You Were Sleeping will be a legal supernatural drama, much like I Hear Your Voice—that series was about a public defender and a boy who could read minds, while this one is about a prosecutor and a girl who sees the future. Suzy has been cast as a young woman who has dreams about bad things that are about to happen to other people, and Lee Jong-seok will play the prosecutor who fights to stop those tragedies from coming true.

I expect the PD of Doctors to be a good fit for the contemporary romance; that show had the pitfall of seeming visually pretty but empty of substance at times, but with this writer I don’t have that worry at all, since she always delivers great characters and a compelling story. I’m really not enthused about Suzy’s casting, but I’ve always found something to like about the heroines in this writer’s dramas, so I’m going to keep an open mind and hope for the best. Maybe the drama will reward my optimism by keeping it light and funny and melo-free, with some chemistry on top.

While You Were Sleeping is being planned for a 2017 broadcast on SBS.

I trust Park Hyeryun (her heroines are exceptionally daebak) and Lee Jongsuk. And Suzy is pretty, I only watch her in Dream High , Big and Architecture 101, didn't finish Gu Family Book and didn't watch UF so it's been a while.

If writernim want an idol actress? Why not choose Jung Eun Ji instead? She is one of the idol actress with natural presence and persona, I mean just look at her past works; notably Reply 1997. Are you turning a blind eye on this writernim? Or Nam Ji Hyun, well she is indeed just finished with SKL recently, but girl she knows how to act. She received such a positive reviews and response for her acting in SKL; so why in the name of KDramaland would you choose Suzy instead of these 2 lovely yet talented actress writernim???

Sassy Go Go? Well the ratings might be a flopped but Jung Eun Ji acting in it is no joke. Even Suzy cannot be compared to her. If you watch Reply 1997, then you know exactly what I am talking about. Peace.

Yeah, I agree. Were we watching the same drama?? Jung Eun Ji can definitely act. She's probably one of the better idol actresses out there. Can't even be in the same sentence with Suzy in terms of acting. Let's not be blind to bad acting simply because you're a Suzy fan now.

Yes, even in the drama Trot Lovers she acted way better than the male lead, proving herself as one of the promising young idol actress in SK. Suzy is way below her level, and I have watched UF; there is nothing to be proud of about Suzy acting except that she is beautiful. Plainly beautiful.

No no no.. not eun ji..

In minority, but saw her in autumn the wind blows.. her voice my ears can't handle.. and she was the same in reply 97..

Or maybe i have seen her only in screeching characters..

maybe would be nice to see in a mature, sophisticated, no screaming queen kind of a role

Agreed, I was also thinking of Jung Eunji as idol turned actress. She is so much more talented. Loved her performance in Sassy Go Go and Trot Lovers! Haven't watched Reply 1997 yet but heard it was great. She was badass in That Winter the Wind Blows too!!

Why Suzy why?!?!

Can't say that I'm super excited about Suzy, but I definitely am for LJS and writer Park. Don't mind the PD as long as we have good content, which I have no doubt we will since I've really enjoyed this writer's projects. Loved Dream High though I cared more for KSH than Suzy there. Made it through Uncontrollably Fond for KWB's sake despite the sucky story and had to take a break in between. So, I should be able to watch this whole show for LJS and the story itself.

I actually don't mind Suzy or LJS it's just that I feel like we're always seeing the same faces when there 's so many other talented actors and actresses out there. It's like those in charge of castings have a list with ten names and they just make different pairs of leads for any new drama. Frustrating...

Hey! You should stop the hate over Suzy's acting. If you found her acting in uncontrollably fond that bad then you'd better analyze the character portrayed first. Her character in UF is someone who looks fierce and strong in the outside but has a good/weak heart in the inside. You should give her a chance in portraying other roles. I love her Dream High character. She won't be the famous Suzy that we know today if she did not shine in that drama. Moreover, the writer for her new drama knows her well so there will always be hope for those who criticize her. Give her a chance people.

People said 'give her a chance' before Gu Family Book - she was horrible

People said 'give her a chance' before Sound of a Flower- she was horrible

People said 'give her a chance' before UF - she's still horrible!

Now they started with 'give her a chance' again and she didn't do anything to show that she earned that chance. We are all tired now.

"Give her a chance people"

How many dramas does she have to be given a "chance" to ruin before you stop saying this?

I watched UF and her acting is plain bad, there's no excuse of its a complex character we don't understand or whatever. She can be tough on the outside and nice on the inside all you want but that was not what came across in her acting, with her horrible vocal tone and her half open pouting mouth every time she's supposed to be feeling some emotion.

She wouldn't be 'famous Suzy' if it wasn't for the aggressive media push by her agency. As we've seen time and again, she's a sad excuse of an 'actress', no matter who is trying to cover for her lack of skills - enough with the 'give her a chance' already, she's blown enough chances.

Tbh I actually liked her in GFB and didn't mind her in DH either. However, I most definitely agree that she's not really qualified to be an actress and my heart aches for what this drama could've been but now probably never will be.

She kind of reminds me of Jinwoon. Pretty, charismatic and cute to look at, always managing to put a smile on my face, but pretty bad in the acting department. Both can do smaller parts just fine and be a fun comedic break in a show, but neither are skilled enough to be a lead.

At least LJS is the Chemistry King, so hopefully we'll have at least that much?

The hate Suzy gains compared to other just as bad actresses is really interesting.

When bad leading male gets casted the crying here doesn't happen, they all get happy and droll ~Hot oppa!!! At least he is eye candy~

Lmao, people here give L a chance, but not Suzy!

''WHY! SHE MUST HAVE SPONSORS! LJS doesn't deserve it! Tired of seeing Suzy everywhere''

I'm also tired of seeing LJS fake nose and overated acting everywhere, doing always the same character zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Suzy bring in the sponsorship, you guys should accept she is popular at Korea, she does bring in vierwers and money to producion. You can cry harder and she will be making dramas and money.

Also, tired about '' give real actors real chances!!!!'' then LJS should also not getting lead roles, because he is nothing to rave about, his acting is decent, and his model looks gave in a pass by female viewers here, but real actors whi studied and need a chance don`t get it.

Your persecution complex about Suzy's acting is not only dumb, it's completely false.

Go to the casting posts of Taecyeon or L when they get offered lead roles and EVERYONE is tearing them apart. L got offered only a second lead role and no one wants to tolerate him in even that. But of course this is the age of Trump, facts are unimportant and you can go around spouting lies as long as you get to say what you like.

You can keep whining about how everyone here "hates" Suzy but all we hate is shitty acting , gender no bar. It's sad that even in defending her all you can say is she brings sponsors and money, even you fans can't defend that acting.

A little criticism.

You imply the person you disagree with is dumb. Then proceed to mock them further, alleging that in the "age of Trump" such wanting behavior is apparently expected. You cap it off with a further assertion that they're not simply wrong, but that they must be knowingly and maliciously lying.

In summary, delivery is as important as being right in what you say.

Sounding like a bit of an opinionated jerk when rebutting someone seems a strategy that is ultimately less effective than one perhaps coated in a little sugar. Yea you'll get a few cheers from the true believers, but will you really convince anyone?

I'm inclined to agree with some of your position, but I felt the fury and personal attacks towards the OP unwarranted.

Granted the OP wasn't exactly waving an olive branch. But there's no reason to roll around in the mud with them.

Just my two cents.

@Emanresu thank you for your civil reply.

The things OC said in their comment was like a carbon copy of Suzy fans attitudes on every kpop or kdrama site I have ever seen - they bash other actresses, bash other actors, then claim Suzy is only judged harshly for her acting because she female and as a bonus, that no one complains about guy's crappy acting.

There's a phenomenon I read about in the American election, where if a lie was repeated enough times and loudly and no one fights it, people would just believe that and the truth would not matter. It's the kind of strategy Trump used. I heard they call it "post-truth".

Obviously the two things are different in seriousness but I would have kept quiet if @Luz17 had not chosen to attack db commenters personally and then claim that we went 'give him a chance' to L.....that was a specific claim and if you see the post at all (which I assume @luz17 did since she taking about it) you will know it's false.

I don't think this commenter was someone who was bothered about facts or would listen if we commented nicely. I just thought I should state clearly that what they claimed was absolutely false and you can see its false. If no one responded then anyone who saw that comment might think they were speaking based on fact when what they said was the opposite of fact (and this is not opinion like so and So's acting is good or not, they talking about us in particular posts)

Ha, ruthless comment is ruthless.

I do think Suzy aspires to be more than just a CM model, as much as I think she shouldn't have a career in acting. It's commendable that she tries despite all of our criticism, even though she ends up tainting the dramas we would've enjoyed. However outrageous the comparison her fans come up with, I don't think we should assume Suzy sets out to put a damper in our kdrama enjoyment. I do put the blame on the people who keep offering her these things because of sell power.

0

@Sammi - I think she probably wants to be more than a model, but more because being an 'actress' leads to better endorsement offers than because she actually wants to act.

I don't think she sets out to ruin projects but I do think she doesn't particularly have any care about whether she can actually perform - she just takes the big-name offers and she (and her fans) seem to expect that the writer/production teams will solve the issue of her bad acting.

I mean, sure, it's the fault of these productions for lowering their standards to someone like her. But she's no rookie, she's a huge name in Korea and has control over the direction of her career - she's not off the hook for choosing to do dramas when she struggles with even the basics of acting and doesn't seem to put in any work on her own (acting coaches etc) to get better.

0

Basically, I don't think she takes acting seriously at all beyond lip service to how she knows she's bad and 'will work hard' (where's the evidence of it, cause it certainly doesn't show in her performances).

I don't think she even sees dramas as anything more than an opportunity to score more commercials.

0

LJS's half hour monologue/argument was amazing acting and showed he could hold his own with a veteran actor.

0

Ah, I'm well aware that she may not want to continue to improve her acting as much as she just wants to stay in the industry. I suppose I'm just indifferent to it now.

If someone offers me a bunch of money for a project that will get me a lot of exposure and thereby extending my career, and the people who want me on the project believes in me (be it ability or just plain appeal), then why would I turn it down?

I agree that she should be more self-aware in her limited ability and not take more than she can handle... but the deals she get are ridiculously good. The pros far outweigh the cons, and she'd be a fool to not take them while she's still young and popular. I think you're expecting her to have some sort of moral standard that most of us wouldn't be able to achieve, quite frankly. It's just logical and practical for her to continue to accept these deals as long as they keep on offering to her. And who's to say she isn't trying harder, but acting just isn't her thing. Some people just don't have the talent to improve despite what they do.

Finally, I'll less likely watch this drama now that she's on board, but there are plenty of other dramas that are more interesting on the horizon. Her being in this one thing doesn't ruin everything in Kdrama for me. I think people just need to stop focusing on her flaws and look at the bigger picture.

I dunno, maybe it's just my personal outlook. Nothing is going to change unless someone decides to organize a massive protest against casting her. Dragging her hasn't change her decisions so far, it just makes her fans more upset and angry.

0

Uhmm why do I always see you leaving comments that defend crappy idol actresses in the expense of actual real actors/actresses? I saw you commenting in UF thread that Suzy’s acting skills may have gotten exposed because of the genre and then you proceeded to pull out of your ass that PSH would be equally exposed in melodramas. You just forgot that PSH debuted in melodrama and was highly praised for her melo-acting. LMFAO try harder next time

Are you 12? I guess 17 then. Okay so.. if Suzy had actually shown growth in acting, or any potential, or if she had the capacity to show viewers nuanced performance then I’d say that DB commenters are unreasonably criticizing Suzy. However she doesn’t seem to even like acting that much and she is still getting LEAD roles and acting alongside more talented people, some of them even relegated to play second/third leads, then it’s totally understandable why people are frustrated. I mean she was the lead in A sound of flower and even veteran sunbae actor RSR was in the back and that movie tanked so hard despite MONTHS of media play on Naver, the same exact thing happened with UF; MONTHS of teaser release and media play on Naver and it tanked. Her bubble is bursting so hard and everyone can see that she has just lucked out but she still got a lead role without taking any acting lessons and forget even majoring in film and theatre.
I oppose misogynistic comments, but c’mon this is 2016 and her acting is so-so/ bad and she is STILL doing lead roles and people are right to vent out their frustration...

As you pointed out, our frustration isn't just on behalf of the male leads who have to do double the work to cover for her incompetence, the people who truly lose out are talented young actresses - i.e. other WOMEN.

Using feminist arguments to defend female mediocrity/incompetence is pure bs, I don't have any truck with it.

Suzy's fans are so obvious, they can't defend her acting or say she has shown any improvement so they resort to personal attacks saying people are bitter, salty or haters and attack her costars even when her costars are obviously more talented then her. Suzy isn't receiving overly negative comments. People react just as badly to other untalented actresses like Jin Seyeon or idol actors like L. Even knetizens agree, there is a reason the only positive comments about her dramas involve her looks. She is very pretty but she should stick to CFs and singing.

She isn't as terrible but you are hoping or making it out to be. Have you really watched UF or did you just watch snippets of it? You know it yourself.

No one is asking you to give her a chance. If you find her acting bad then okay. All you need is to stop watching it. That's it. What's the point of incessantly lamenting how bad she was? No need to keep making such negative comments. What kind of satisfaction do you get from putting someone down?

"Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." This includes many of you who are making negative comments.

Dramabeans is one of the few places where people are most optimistic about giving people chance. Thing is Suzy has had way too many chances and she has let people down in all of those chances. Now, most are tired and would like somebody who has the acting prowess and doesn't just ride on her popularity of being an idol for once. Its not like SK doesn't have competent actresses but we get the same shitty actresses over and over again.
Also, what hard battle, you mean all the lobbying her management does off screen to get her opportunities after opportunities over and over again that she seems to royally screw up. After UF, I had hoped she'd take a break and focus on honing her craft but no, she's been cast again. I was really looking forward to this but now I think I'll pass. My limit to tolerating crap from horrible actresses has been crossed this year.

I rather save my sympathy for actresses who can't get such opportunities even when they're talented and naturally beautiful.

They're fighting the real hard battles, not some mouth-breather who gets all these chances even when she shows time and again that she can't act.

0

Required fields are marked *

I have to agree with this. Idols who can't act yet get countless opportunities for lead roles and even a pass for even the tiniest, minute, incremental "improvement" they show have so many defenders willing to cut them some slack, but what can we say about those poor actresses who can actually act, but never get any roles besides obscure indie movies and heroine's best friend. People don't even know they're out there struggling. I've certainly seen actresses pull off stereotypical best friend roles better than Suzy was able for all of her lead roles combined. I honestly feel more sympathy for them than for a talentless idol who gets everything handed to her and doesn't even enjoy acting.

I am sorry her agency seems to be pushing her into this, but not sorry enough to defend her bad acting. She can either take some serious acting classes or step back from this industry. I would feel terrible ruining other people's hard work with my non-existent skills and robbing people who are actually good at this of their chances. Of course, it is not entirely her fault, casting directors are at fault too, as well as those who are content to just stare at her pretty face and pay no mind to any standards of quality cause "unni is so pretty" is the only thought they can form in regards to her.

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

Why are people mean when they are only stating their opinion? It's not about putting someone down, but she could use some reality check and either take more acting classes to try and hone her skills or give up on it. Not everyone is cut for acting, just like how singing and dancing isn't for anyone (which Suzy seems to be good at). Unfortunately some actresses never improve no matter what while some rise to the occasion. But with five productions behind her, Suzy seems to belong to the first category so it's no wonder that people are lamenting when she keeps getting cast in really promising dramas, e.g. this one. It's fine if she were cast in boring dramas, then it's easy to choose not to watch, but like in this case when ppl are actually looking forward to the drama in question? Of course this will cause people to complain, and some are even deciding to skip the drama entirely which hurts the production before it even begins... Then there are some of us who will try to wheather it nevertheless, but that doesn't mean we have to be happy about a casting that might ruin the whole drama. Good dramas are hard to come by already.

Why should we all "give her chance after chance" when SHE HERSELF doesn't seems to be motivated to work on her acting?!

Is it our fault that she can't act?

Because of her media play , many good actresses are missing out chances while she just gives her horrible performance in every role still can get away with it and grab good roles.

Noooo.....will this be the end of Lee Kong suk's successful career.....I have no clue why Suzy gets casted for dramas. I hope she remains an idol....coz she's perfect for that. Please leave the acting part to someone like park shin hye or han hyo joo who had explosive chemistry with Lee jong suk's???????

If their chicken ad is anything to go by, it's going to be rough going on the chemistry front. Heck even with Han Hyo-joo it was patchy, I liked them in the romcommy parts of W but it faltered a little in the emotional parts.

(in contrast, his 2013 jambangee campaigns with Park Shin-hye...... holy WHOA, she practically smoked a hole in the wall with him)

Yes, he was good and cute with Lee Bo Young, and with PSH, he really wanted her for himself. They had amazing chemistry. In W2, with HHJ, he was all acting but no real chemistry.

IKR! I liked chemistry best in Pinocchio, because it felt so real, I could feel their emotions and every single action between them, even when they didn’t speak, were nuanced. Then imo IHYV was equally heart wrenching. W was great in romcommy parts but towards the end of the drama, it was rather exhausting on HHJs part, I guess she is a better fit for silver screen?

Noo .... Seriously I was so happy when I heard we will get to see the collab between Lee Jong Suk and writer Park Hye Run again. But I doubt I will watch this because of Suzy. I even can't finish UF although I like KWB so much. This girl seriously can't act and need more acting lesson. Whenever she’s on melo-mode or serious-mode, her face becomes blank! Seriously, she’s painful to watch in UF. Her voice tone is also awkward ... Sorry Suzy .. You looks so pretty and I like you as singer, but acting is not for you.

Someone above suggested Suzy should play LJS's mother. HA. It would be possible in twist of 'The woman who lives in our house' (that would actually be an interesting drama now that I think of it)

I'm going to pin my hopes on a strong supporting cast and inspired directing. In SUFBB I thought the actress did ok but her role was kind of secondary to the boy band. I wish that would happen here, but it's unlikely. In fact, the story is that LS and Suzy will be working TOGETHER to prevent tragedies... I won't say we're doomed. Not yet.

I just finished marathoning Sassy Go Go and am again impressed by Eunji (whom I previously saw in Reply 1997). Some idols can make that transition into acting. It's just that Suzy has not shown signs of being able to do so.

I have a question though..

I do think suzy is nice to look at.. but is she really the most beautiful??? All i have been hearing since last year is how she and kim tae hee are the undisputed beauties..

When i find them to have average nice looks..

I mean look at thai actresses.. they are beautiful, charlize theron is beautiful, Aishwarya Rai is beautiful, .. song hye kyo (only face) is undisputed beauty.. I am sure the Korean modeling world must have breathtaking beauties..

Isn't suzy more of cute nice girl category? as IU would be probably

Or is she just one of the pretty faces ( that I would understand.. and agree).. and i have been listening to the wrong sample

If korea thinks that Kim Tae Hee and Suzy are their representative beauties then errr.. I really don’t know what to say.. except that these two don’t hold candle to the beauties like Madhubala, Meena Kumari, Aishwarya Rai, Rekha, Sushmita Sen, etc (India); Fan Bing Bing, Liu Shi Shi, Liu Yifei, Zhang Ziyi, Gong Li (China). SEA is full of more stunning beauties too.
And South-Korea does have real beauties like Lee Young Ae, Jun Ji Hyun, Song Hye Kyo, but instead they seem to choose Kim Tae Hee (and Suzy) as their top beauties (they are pretty, but really, they are average compared to aforementioned female beauties)... but I guess it’s my opinion only...

But looks/beauty shouldn’t matter in casting situation but talent, unless they’re casting for a role of miss korea or something and even then they should be able to deliver good acting...

Required fields are marked *

A matter of tastes, I guess...Korean beauty standard is vastly different from ours (western) They are more into the cuter, skinny and V-shaped/small faces types such as Yoona (though Sooyoung is prettier than her imo), Audrey Hepburn (for the classic beauties), Miranda Kerr or Olivia Hussey (Romeo & Juliet) Beauty is subjective anyway and vary from one country to another. Lastly I agree with Gilgit on that beauty shouldn't matter in casting situation. Talent should come first. Beauty is only a plus imo.

She is never regarded in same way as Kim Tae Hee, they are not considered the same level in Korea. KTH,Jun Ji Hyun,Song Hye Kyo,Han Ga In, Lee Young Ae, Shin Min Ah are considered Top Beauties.

Suzy is in same league with younger stars like Yoona,Park Shin Hye,Go Ara,Moon Chae Won, Kang Sora etc.

Suzy is pretty, she is dating my favorite actor, but she should really start taking smaller roles before jumping on doing leads, she wasn't terrible in UF but she still lacks presence, and I am afraid now pairing her with LJS, he is going to make her lack of serious acting talent more obvious, they might match visually, but acting wise, he is way above her.....

Tell your girl to take acting lesson instead of saying she will bring in the ratings when she can't even do that. You can keep on washing shitty acting from your bias but notes that your bias is not the only one in the drama that she will ruin with her bad acting!!

I have nothing against Suzy. I respect her and think She's a sweet person. I'm just bothered that these days a lot of dramas are casting non talented models/singers/wanna be actors. I don't understand this. Why cast them and not cast real actors that are talented. I hate to say this but if this wave keeps going in kdrama then all the talented actors will vanish and we will get stuck with non talented no emotions wanna be actors and then kdrama will be miserable and then I would be shattered.

I have never finished a drama Suzy was in. Only attempted 2, so I can't say too much about her acting as I didn't allow my eyes to endure it long enough. She's not terrible, but she's not that great either, probably not even good (of the 2 dramas I saw her in). I never finished Dream High - I think I must be the only one. I dropped Gu Family Book as soon as the parent arc was over. I went back to watching it when I heard the parents came back, and didn't understand some of the stuff that was going on as I missed a lot of episodes. I dropped it again when the parents died.

Suzy is fun to watch in variety shows so it's a shame she's getting a lot of crap for her acting. I will give this drama a chance because of LJS and well .. if I can't endure Suzy's acting, I will have to sadly drop it. Fingers crossed the writer can write Suzy's character around Suzy's acting flaw. I really like supernatural elements in dramas. Really loved I Hear Your Voice, so would be sad to have to drop this drama. I'll keep my expectations low so that I can end up liking the drama and finish watching it despite any acting flaws from Suzy.

Park Hye Ryun and Lee Jong Suk are a lethal combo. And as much as I like her writing and him being a good actor, I really dislike the practice of elitism in dramaland, where popular stars work in "best projects" while the others would just be left off with meager and left over portion of the cakes. LJS has been so lucky and having a strong writer who insisted on giving her works only to him strengthening his position as an actor. There are vast talented actors out there but never given a chance because they have yet to prove themselves in bringing in the ratings - sometimes not of their faults but happened to be offered with leftovers with crappy writings, because the good writers only wanted to work with star actors. Bottom line is, denying others a chance really is so uncool.

Required fields are marked *

I do understand that big names or rating magnets like LJS is a preferred choice but how would any other actor of equal talent to be able to bring in the rating if they are constantly being denied good projects and having to contended with leftovers? In most cases, it's not even their faults that their projects tanked and failed at securing good ratings.
The good projects continuously landed in the hands of actors with proven track records and that actors will continue having the opportunity to succeed perhaps even further and with this kind of practice continuing, there is just no chance for other actors to prove themselves.
I agree with @Cathz....I don't appreciate this kind practice.

0

Required fields are marked *

@Nifty the only way newer actors will get chances at things now is if they have a surprise hit, like LJS had with IHYV or School 2013. Otherwise they end up blocked from being offered projects like this.

Even writers who have a surprise hit with a new star like PHR with LJS, stop offering roles to other new names after that hit, they only stick with the actor they hit success with.

0

It's a practise you'll find in Hollywood movie production houses... same writer/producer/actors/cast because they prove to be "winning combo"... It's a fact of life, newer actors just have to proof their worth as second leads before the leading role can be bestowed upon them. With Lee Jong Suk's acting skills, I am not complaining to see him on screen as lead - I rather see him act in his prime then to see some second rate lead actor in his stead.

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

i think this happens in all profession tbh, and not just limited to k-ent. most companies will also prefer an experienced employee with a proven track record rather than a newbie fresh out of uni because they don't want to invest time and money training someone before (or if ever) they become productive. but also just like in any other profession, rookies can build experience and portfolio as a supporting cast. LJS has had stints in high kick, prosecutor princess and secret garden before being cast as the one of the leads in school 2013- also none of his movies so far were box office hits. no one can deny he was pretty lucky in his projects, but can't say that he didn't work his way up to where he is now, either.

Ugh, I am so sorry Lee Jong Suk fans. He is not my bias, but I would feel pretty devastated if Suzy got cast opposite one of my biases, so I feel ya.

I am slowly making my way through Uncontrollably Fond. I started watching it when it was airing and still have two episodes left. While I would argue tepid writing is the biggest issue with the show, Suzy's poor acting is a very close second for what holds the show back (even though there are some good parts, which is why I am determined to finish it). I know Suzy has a devoted fan base which is demonstrated by her articles getting tons of views and comments, but Uncontrollably Fond proved that doesn't necessarily translate to television ratings. There are shows - like Oh Hae Young Again - which got better ratings with lesser known casts simply because the show was good. So why does this new show handicap itself at the starting gate with a poor actress?! Arrggh!

I know I'm in the absolute minority here and I know I must be weird and I can't figure this out but I just have never liked Lee Jong Suk. Yes, he can be a good actor - at times - but there's just something about him that feels "off" to me. Maybe this feeing stems from a long interview I watched with him two years ago and the poor boy just seems so insecure. I'm also not fond of skinny men - or big lips (unless they are Rain's! or Kim Young-Kwang's)...and is it just me but has something happened to LJS's right eye? I noticed it in 'W'.
There, Ive said it, and this is the first time, despite wanting to express this opinion for the past two years and knowing I'd get creamed, so please forgive me and don't hate me. It's just personal preference and I respect all of our preferences. OK - I'll quietly go away now!

Watched him in some sort of a variety show and he told the host that he's a homey type, watches lots of dramas on tv and even talks to his robotic vacuum. He sounded so lonely and pitiful to me. He lives by himself since he was a teenager too if I'm not mistaken.
I'm not his biggest fan but he does pick good scripts and paired with people I love so I watched everything of his except Doctor Stranger for obvious reason. I did watch fanmade mvs of him and Kang so ra on Youtube though.
I'd love to see him acting alongside Kim ji won or Park bo young or Kang so ra again and romancing them right.

In my own personal opinion, which of course anyone may certainly disagree with, Suzy was far from the sole issue/problem that became "Uncontrollably Fond". That show was far from perfect even if they'd had a different lead female.
Kim Woo-Bin, talented and passionate man he is, had to carry all the weight of a show full of flawed writing, unclear character motivations, confusing editing, impaired production, with a lack of central theme and plot. (Again, I'm aware this may be my opinion alone)
Whether Lee Jong-Suk had a say or not (which I agree with you he probably didn't), what I said was, I believe he wouldn't be involved in a production he wasn't confident about.
So, once again. I'm saying I'm willing to give every show and actor a shot on an individual basis. Pre-judging things without a willingness to discover, belief in opportunity, or hope in development is a deleterious way to live.

Sure I can watch it, but it would suck with her in it. Such a waste of plot and Lee Jong Suk. WHY do people keep giving Suzy drama roles when she needs to hone her acting? Put her in an acting school or a 120 episodes drama to hone her skills first!!! T^T
