Ji-soo falls for Strong Woman Park Bo-young for JTBC drama
by javabeans
Ji-soo is on a roll! He just wrapped up work on JTBC’s recent Friday-Saturday drama Fantastic (and can still be seen in Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, although that finished filming first), and now he’s lined up another JTBC project in Strong Woman Do Bong-soon. Or, as I think of it, That Drama I’m Excited About Because of Park Bo-young (Oh My Ghostess). (It hardly even matters what it’s about, because I love Park Bo-young that much, and also, she tends to pick projects well.)
Strong Woman Do Bong-soon, which comes from writer Baek Mi-kyung of Beloved Eun-dong and PD Lee Hyung-min of Ms. Temper and Nam Jung-ki, has only been described in very broad terms thus far, and is all about a strong woman. Which, okay, is something I am a fan of, but also the thinnest description ever. (Though I’m wondering what kind of strong that means: Is she a streetwise tough cookie, a resilient survivor, a weightlifting fairy? Only time — and more drama promos — will tell.)
Park Bo-young was cast early on, which was exciting news since she is adorable, energetic, and talented, and I’d feared that it would take her forever to return to dramas after lighting up the screen in last year’s Oh My Ghostess. Park Hyung-shik (High Society) was cast next in the leading man role, a self-made man and young CEO with a bright, tsundere personality.
Ji-soo will play a principled detective who has harbored a longtime one-sided love for the heroine, a role I can easily see him taking on after playing a principled lawyer in Fantastic, who loved rules and slept with his legal reference books. He’ll be the third leg in the main love triangle, and while I do fear that this means another second lead role for Ji-soo, given how new he still is to dramaland, I can live with him building up his filmography and taking on new characters. (And to be honest, he has played a lot of very similar characters, so he could use some time to branch out and explore.) I might suffer a pretty acute case of Second Lead Syndrome, but you know, when those are depicted well, they hurt so good.
Strong Woman Do Bong-soon will premiere in January or February.
