Scarlet Heart’s princes share bath time, games, and a lady love

They bathe together? Did Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart: Goryeo turn into fanfic when I wasn’t looking? The second teaser is out for the upcoming SBS fantasy saguek, which is turning out to be fantasy in more ways than one: Our 21st-century heroine gets transported to Goryeo, where a ginormous family of beautiful princes seems to be living quite harmoniously, at least before love and political ambition will tear the bromance apart. So basically, enjoy the communal baths while you can. Seven flower boys in one bath seems like overkill, but who am I to argue with history?

The time-travel drama stars IU as the modern woman who wakes up one day in the body of her Goryeo-era doppelganger, and Lee Jun-ki as the masked prince dead-set on not losing his kingdom or the woman he loves. Kang Haneul plays his main rival for the heroine’s affections, not that she’ll have any shortage of interest from the rest of the princes, played by Hong Jong-hyun, Nam Joo-hyuk, Baekhyun, Ji-soo, and Yoon Sun-woo.

Co-starring are Kim Sung-kyun (Answer Me 1988) as a genius royal astronomer, Kang Hanna (Mom) as Kang Haneul’s ambitious sister, Jin Ki-joo (Splish Splash Love) as IU’s maid and helpful guide in Goryeo, Seohyun (Passionate Love) as a princess who lives for revenge against the royal family, and Z.Hera (Moorim School) as a general’s daughter and fierce warrior.

The second teaser opens with the boys playing a game together, all smiles, while IU says in voiceover: “Goryeo?! Just how many sons does Taejo have?” She then bows before King Taejo awkwardly, probably mimicking what she’s seen in dramas (hey, it’s what I would do!). She’s in for another shock when she comes upon the princes bathing, and then Kang Haneul looks at her curiously and notes, “You seem like someone else.”

She takes issue with Lee Jun-ki calling her “his thing,” so he leans in and asks, “Shall I call you my person?” Ji-soo, Nam Joo-hyuk, and Kang Haneul all seem to be falling for her in turn, but in the end Lee Jun-ki catches her in his arms and says, “I missed you. I won’t ever lose you.” I was kind of looking forward to experiencing seventh-lead syndrome for the first time ever, but Lee Jun-ki and his mane of glory aren’t really letting me get anywhere past OTP-landia.

Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart: Goryeo follows Doctors on August 29.

The costumes are slightly different than the usual Sageuk drama i watched. Is this a different era already?

I hope i made sense.

Yes, this is the (early) Goryeo period. Most historical dramas are set in the (later) Joseon period. The costume was inspired from the Chinese dynasty since Korea and China shared close trade ties, etc.

Thank You. I googled it and found out about it. Although i got confused because there's two King Taejo. One from Goryeo and one from Joseon. Good thing the title has Goryeo in it. Lol.

It's really nice to know a piece of Korean history. Thanks again!

Get you a drama that can do both. ?

I love this vibe too, as much as I loved the moody, dark vibe of the first teaser. I'm genuinely looking forward to the romance(s) because I like a variety of dynamics, rather than those being completely overshadowed by the power-play. I think it gives the drama grounding and heart. I'm also so looking forward to IU's Haesoo being an awkward dork in the beginning and completely unable to fit in and frantically trying to make use of all her History + Sageuk knowledge somehow, and being painfully obvious and just confusing the hell out of everyone, lol.

But that BTS picture of Haneul, Jisoo and Baekhyun smiling at IU as she speaks- I already have all-the-leads syndrome!!! Polyamory is the only acceptable solution at this point. #truestory

I really hope this drama turns out decent - it's hard not to be very pessimistic, given the track records of previous cdrama adaptations and the fact that even pre-production has not saved some much-hyped dramas from being completely underwhelming. I really, really hope I'm wrong!

Also, where is this bts pic of which you speak? I have a feeling I might just emerge from this severely wishing that Haneul and Ji-soo could get their own dramas as OTP opposite IU :)

I agree! For the drama's sake, I really hope it's great. For my sake- well, I already know I only started even considering watching it for the cast, so unless it's a complete trainwreck, I'm fairly sure I'm going to enjoy it, especially as I'm neither familiar with the Chinese drama, nor the original story. (In fact, I'm currently most excited about Baekhyun/IU, because I've always low-key shipped them, so what credibility do I have ^^)

On the other hand, hearing more about the story, I can't help but get my expectations up, because it sounds so great. A woman from the 21st century caught in that sort of male-dominated, power-structured society is utterly fascinating, especially in that sort of pathos-return addition of her knowledge of History as it happened. I love the teasers, so despite wanting to watch for the shallowest reasons, I now find myself getting caught up in all the other aspects; the cinematography, the narrative, the characterisations, the dynamics, the politics. So *fingers crossed*

Here's the picture! I don't know if it's a BTS or a shoot, but, adorable! I would totally be up for an IU/one of these guys drama, heh.

Omo! Kim Sung Kyun looks so great.
I can't remember if Z.Hera was Jenny or the other girl in MS but they were both awesome.
Is Baek asleep in that 3rd pic? The lighter blue in the back. Ugh! I want to focus on KHN, Jisoo and HJH but Baekhyun won't leave me alone. Hopefully it will be easier during the drama.

Gosh this drama looks grand. This one is a must-see for me because of LJK! So excited to see Kang Haneul too. He looks perfect for sageuks.

I really hope the story is good though!
I'm not really a fan of IU, but I warmed up to her a little after her role in Producers.

I'll be watching because of Lee Jun Ki and IU. I don't care for Kang Ha Neul or Hong Jong Hyun. I've always found them one dimensional and expressionless which is a shame considering they keep getting decent roles...

I don't know about Hong Jun Hyun and I've only seen Kang Ha Nuel in the movie Empire Of Lust. He's character was such a pervy-sicko-asshole but he definately was anything but expressionless. He was so filthy,I rejoiced in the way he was brought to an end. I definately want to see more of his projects!

Your people keeps your family history/records well. 90% of my rl friends are Koreans and it amazes me how the elders can trace their family line all the way back 1000+ years.
I can only go back 3 generations (cries in shame hu hu).

Ship her with the Oppar you like least (like, 1% like less) so you can have the others for yourself.

Let it not be said that fangirls are not generous...

*Spoiler but kind of not*

I'm surprised that there's so much bromance in this Korean remake (not that a girl is complainin' HEEEEE!!!!), because, well, it's not that the original didn't have any bromance, but it was more subtle, less flower-boy-like and not all the brothers were unified and bromancing everyone... There was some strong alliances, conversations under cut with lots of subliminal messages, and lots of faction-speak in the original.... I know, I KNOW!!! I shouldn't be comparing the original vs. this remake version and just let both works/ versions/interpretations speak for themselves, but sometimes I just can't help it.... Please don't kill me T.T
*hides under sageuk flower canopy full of pretty Goreyo brothers for protection*
Also, computer wallpaper choices:
1. Picture 2, LJK's glorious mane & smile *swoon(
2. Picture 3, all my princes in their glorious royal robes
3. Picture 4, all my princes in the royal bathhouse *holds cup under chin to catch drool*
4. Picture 5, prince Ji Soo and his cutie patootie face (them abs & flexing is bonus)
5. Picture 8, prince Jong Hyun and his fab sageuk guy-liner
6. Picture 11, prince Kang Ha Neul and his beautiful eyes *trying not to get lost in said eyes.... swoon*
7. Picture 13, my new fave OTP being SO CUTE!!!! <3

SO. MANY. CHOICES...... HELP!!!

I would willingly go back in time and suffer from unhygienic conditions, lack of internet, and nonexistent plumbing if it meant Lee Jun-ki would stare at me like that.

He is King Taejo's first born son. He ruled for just 2yrs after his father died so I think he won't last long.

The 1st prince wasn't part of the Chinese version. Yin Reng (2nd prince) was the current crown prince when Rouxi's story started in Qing.
