Park Eun-bin, Park Hye-soo up for JTBC’s Age of Youth

Casting offers are out for JTBC’s new youthful roommate drama Age of Youth. This drama features the amusing events that happen in the lives of five young college women, all with different appearances, quirks, majors, taste in men, and relationship styles, who happen to live under the same roof.
The drama is courting five actresses to play those leading ladies, and the names mentioned so far make up a pretty strong lineup. Han Ye-ri, who was the first to be announced, has been building a career with strong performances and characters who leave an impression, in film (Sea Fog, As One), and in television (Six Flying Dragons). Park Eun-bin has been transitioning well from child and teenage characters (Queen Seon-deok, Iron Empress) to adult parts (Gu-am Heo Jun, Secret Door), even if she hasn’t found her adult breakout role yet.
Ryu Hwa-young is still relatively new but has been developing a comic side that’s often scene-stealing (Ex-Girlfriend Club; Come Back, Ajusshi). Kara’s Han Seung-yeon (Jang Bo-ri is here), and Park Hye-soo (Joo-won’s little sister from Yong-pal) complete the group.
Girl’s Generation member Sunny was also in contention for a part in this drama, but has since announced through her official SNS account that she declined the offer. Humbly, she said that she did not want to take away from the enjoyment of the drama with her inexperience at acting.
This project is brought to us by writer Park Yeon-sun, who has a string of insightful drama to her name, such as Alone in Love, Mixed-up Investigative Agency, and White Christmas. The PD at the helm for Age of Youth is Lee Tae-gon, who also directed the emotionally riveting Beloved Eun-dong. With these two heading the project, we can expect a solid thoughtful drama, and I’m hoping it’ll be like the humorous and chic I Need Romance dramas, perhaps geared toward a younger demographic. I think Age of Youth definitely has the potential to resonate well with that crowd, combining a Sex in the City or Girls vibe with a focus on the concerns and goals of female millennials.
Currently JTBC is airing Mirror of the Witch, which will finish in July. Age of Youth is scheduled afterwards, set to begin July 22.

I was looking forward to seeing Sunny, but understand her reason for declining since this would have been her first official acting role. She'll probably stick to musicals.
I'm pretty excited to see Park Eun Bin and Han Ye Ri, hopefully Seungyeon has improved a lot since her last role.

This is shaping up to be pretty promising with three actresses I really like and two I can't comment on. Props to Sunny for being in-touch with her capabilities as an actress and turning the role down.
I love the dialogues and characters in Park Yeon-sun's dramas so I can't wait for this.

"she said that she did not want to take away from the enjoyment of the drama with her inexperience at acting."
Wow, good for her. Lots of idols would take such an opportunity. I guess she doesn't need the exposure, though, since she's already well-known doing what she does best and likely well-off financially.

I love Han Ye-Ri and Park Eun-Bin, but nothing else you write about the project so far, inspires me to want to watch it.

Sunny what is a life whitout taking a risk, at least you sould try first before you give up, You will never know if You has Potentials, capabilities or talents, if you don't try or chalange your self!! And I think for someone who worked in enertaiment industries they must be as greedy as they can for milion, billion, zillion money $$$ sake, I'm glad that my bias is sooo brave for taking so many risk!

I wish more idols are like Sunny, knowing their limitations while working to improve their own strength. It will be good to learn little by little either by taking acting classes or taking minor roles. Almost every great actor we see today also started from minor roles and continue to build up resume, it's unfair for talented actors to be relegated to second leads/supporting characters in favor of less talented idols.

Ah yes! Worth waiting for then with Han Ye Ri and Park Eun Bin.
If they reached out to Sunny for an offer, then they must have a specific image in mind associated with her fun persona on tv. Kind of curious to see her take on it, but with two other ex-idols onboard I am glad she declined because man, will there be a disparity in acting level and she'd definitely face a lot of criticism if she didn't do well.

Much respect to Sunny for what she did, most would have jumped at the opportunity. But I've got to admit a part of me is a teensy bit disappointed as I was curious about how she'd fare. I'm actually not too worried about her being horrible at acting. I think she would have been decent.
