Comic book hero comes to life in W–Two Worlds

Ah, finally—some conceptual teasers for W–Two Worlds that feature Lee Jong-seok as a fictional character come to life! MBC’s new Wednesday-Thursday supernatural suspense romance drama has danced around this idea, and said that we’ve got two lovers living in two parallel universes that coexist in the same space, and that one of those universes isn’t in reality as we know it.

But now we’ve caught a glimpse of Lee Jong-seok as an actual comic book hero who walks out of the pages of his story world and into reality. It’s kind of funny that pretty boy drama heroes are often referred to as having walked out of the pages of a comic book, and the writer has run with that idea and made it literal.

Han Hyo-joo stars as a rookie surgeon whose webtoon artist father suddenly goes missing one day. Lee Jong-seok is a fictional character from that webtoon—an Olympic athlete super-chaebol boy genius—and due to a mysterious event, the barrier between reality and the webtoon world breaks down, allowing him to cross over. Han Hyo-joo is convinced that he holds the key to finding her missing father, and in the process of chasing that lead, they begin an unconventional romance that crosses dimensions.

I’m really excited about the concept and happy to see the webtoon drawings that will play such an important part in the story. It reminds me a little of the old NBC show Heroes, but with a cool twist on the fictional world being its own dimension.

W–Two Worlds premieres July 20.

Is it possible to love a drama even before it has started? Because seriously, the stills and the colorful teasers are totally doing it for me.

Hope the actual drama delivers!

waaah.... I am so happy!

I'd never thought I'd see someone write Shikamaru as a fictional character that they fell for... because he is not the typical romantic character but I LOVE him.

Not seen that many anime's but Shikamaru from Inuyasha?

I think its Naruto? could be wrong tho

Absolutely! Loving the concept. It also reminds me of Heroes and that 80s video by A-Ha, "Take on Me." Memories, memories...

Public broadcast drama really dependant on their star studded cast. Its always media play about the cast rather than the story plot. I'm not saying that this is a bad thing but it has become a trend to grab a poular cast rather then trying to appeal the audience with the storyline.

Well that being said,I have to say this drama definitely is on my radar. Everything about the story, and the cast had been interesting. Its been a while for han hyo joo since she has been focusing on movie lately.

I feel that you meant your first paragraph in general. However, why did you write that for this particular instance? I mean, this drama actually hasn't mediaplayed about its cast. I would hardly call announcement and confirmation of the casting, script-reading, and photoshoots mediaplay. All dramas, including cable shows, go through that.

So, I'm just curious why you chose to say about mediaplaying, when MBC is actually quite late doing that.

I was really hoping they would keep that twist hidden and reveal it in the course of the drama. Oh well, Kdramas are not great at hiding their twists, for the most part. Still can't wait!

True, but it helps to simplify the concept of the show. I though inter-dimensional travel would be so intricate at first - now that I understand that dimension, it's far easier to understand the show as a whole.

Or, this doesn't really qualify as a twist because it's their basic premise. That means the real twists are indeed hidden. More to look forward to!

Well, since that secret was already spilled they might as make the most of it and exploit it in their teasers instead of trying to quiet or deny the spoilers.

These teasers are awesome! Absolutely loving the unintentional homage to A-ha's Take On Me music video. I wonder if these lovers will also be chased down due to their barrier breaking romance? ;)

Is anyone else suddenly getting flashbacks to A-ha's video for Take On Me or am I just old? Perfect looking guy from a comic coming to life and wooing a girl with some fighting thrown in? I see no difference!

Of course now I have the literal version stuck in my head.

PIPE WRENCH FIGHT!

lol lots of us old folks here...when they said the girl's father is a comic book writer I kind of guessed that LJS was the fictional character in the book her father wrote..so there was no suprise here when it was revealed...looking forward to this...I would love to see the execution and the ending...

Yep, that was the first thing that came to my mind. Some of those promo pictures even look like stills from the video (hero becoming blurry and comic-ish while she remains standing on the side of reality)

Yeah- I was totally thinking the same thing! The promos look like "Take On Me" video. I was almost expecting LJS to start banging into that "wall" or for her hand to go through and him to take her hand and pull her through to his dimension just like the video.

I was a kid when that song came out. I loved the concept and song back then; I still love it now. And now we get a full series in same vein? SIGN ME UP. Also, Metallica's "Enter Sandman" is in the background while LJS fights in one of the trailers, another favorite!

I heard a rumour that the comic illustrations were actually done by one of LJS' s fan. Is it true?

Required fields are marked *

Not confirmed yet but the drawings in YJ's room in one of the stills are very similar to that fan's previous posted drawing. And the logo that she made before all the promotional things from W came out is also very similar with the official logo. The art style is really similar. So the chances are high that it's true!

I wonder if you know the name of Lee Jong Suk fan who's rumoured to be the illustrator of W comic??? I'd like to see her artworks, just super curious to know here :))

Being a comic book character never has been revealed officially & I think figuring it out is one of the plot twist but it seems that leaked synopsis is everywhere for reference.
Anyway this story is really unique! Can I say I've never been this much attached to a drama by reading its plot! Casts are perfect for their character description + great acting skills.
Hope to see a satisfying result.

Oh...By the looks of the first picture, I thought it was Han Ji Min, I swear! Maybe it's the smile?

Anyway, I really look foward to this drama. I like Lee Jong Seok but unfortunately his last dramas weren't my cup of tea (I'm not saying there were bad, it just I suppose I wasn't in the mood for them at the time. Who knows, maybe some day I binge watch them, just not now)

The plot seems very good. Although makes me remember that mv of A-ha, "Take on Me", he he he.

Will this be like Dramaworld in which the fictional character cannot know he is fictional or his world implodes? I want to see LJS act through some serious existential crisis.

Eh, I was already full of anticipation for W because of the cast, but now I'm totally excited for it! I just finished watching Queen In-hyun's Man and the story's so well-written!!! I loved the romance to bits. So glad that LJS is once again in good hands. Can't wait to see how the writer will tell the story this time.

It's from the writer who did Queen Inhyun, Nine and the Three Muskateers, am I right? Because I loved, loved, loved all of these dramas so very very much!! So smart, so fun, so addictive! My only (small) concern is that those previous dramas were on TVN which I believe is more open to new concepts and gives the drama and their directors/ writers lot of freedom to make their show. I just hope that MBC will not try to change it to make it more mainstream...
(I hope I didn't just jinx it....)
Please be good show! I am so looking forward the summer!!!
