Yeon Woo-jin, Im Soo-jung
- Yeon Woo-jin (Marriage Not Dating) has signed on to co-star opposite Im Soo-jung (Time Renegade) in the new movie Passing Hearts: The Table, an omnibus film with an interesting premise, about patrons at a cafe and the various events that occur at one specific table there. Anyone who’s waited tables before could tell you: Some crazy stuff, that’s what. It’ll be directed by Kim Jong-kwan (Come, Closer) and also stars Jung Yumi, Jung Eun-chae, and Han Ye-ri. It starts filming later this month. [My Daily]
- KBS gave it their all and then some to hold onto their Monday-Tuesday drama Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho for a few more episodes, but in the end they either got the memo that lead actor Park Shin-yang wasn’t going to budge on his no-extension stance, or they realized it made them look a little like a clingy boyfriend who really should just move on. The series will end as planned next week, to be followed by 4-episode drama short Baek-hee Has Returned, and medical mystery Beautiful Mind. [Joy News]
- The updated remake of 2003 romantic comedy drama 1% of Anything has its hero in Ha Suk-jin (D-Day), who confirmed the offer to headline in the role that launched Kang Dong-won’s career, so long ago that I don’t really want to dwell on it. The contract romance between a prickly chaebol and the kind schoolteacher who stands to inherit his entire fortune will slowly soften his heart and eventually lead to love. The drama’s original writer, Hyun Go-eun, and Ghost-Seeing Detective Cheo-yong’s PD Kang Chul-woo are at the helm. [DongA]
- Auditions for the SBS youth sageuk remake of My Sassy Girl are going strong, with the field now narrowed down to 89 candidates who made it past the first round of the open casting call. Initially there were over 1,800 hopefuls in contention for the starring role opposite leading man Joo-won (Yong-pal). The second round of auditions will be broadcast online via Naver TVcast like a survival audition contest, and Joo-won will be participating in the selection process directly. Well, I guess if you’re going to bother with the massive open call, then you may as well drum up some promotional buzz this way. Let’s just hope the effort pays off in a great leading actress sassypants. The drama is set to air in early 2017 on SBS. [My Daily]
- Park Min-young (Healer) will be starring in a Chinese drama next, a romantic comedy called City of Time opposite Zhang Zhe Han (Nirvana in Fire). It’s a lighthearted rom-com based on a novel of the same name, about a college student and a star who meet by chance and fall in love. Park Min-young will play the college student, and Zhang has been cast as the top star. [Star News]
- Also off to China is Lee Hyun-woo (Moorim School), who will be starring in the Chinese web drama The Most Beautiful First Meeting. The youth romance is a novel adaptation about two people who were first loves separated for seven years, reuniting by chance as adults. Lee Hyun-woo will play a college lecturer (Really? Doesn’t he seem a little young for that?) who seems cold on the outside, but has never forgotten his first love. [Sports Seoul]
- MBC has confirmed the new drama Shopping King Louie as its next Wednesday-Thursday series, scheduled for September following Lucky Romance and W—Two Worlds. For a minute there was news that Yook Sung-jae (Village: Secret of Achiara) was up for the leading role, but his reps quickly denied that he was considering it. Boo. Fine, be that way. Shopping King Louie will be about an amnesiac and an heir to a company, and promises lovable characters and humanity in its story. I… have no idea. Your guess is as good as mine. [TV Daily, News 1]
- Lee Beom-soo (Operation Chromite) is in negotiations to star in a new movie called In the Line of Fire, about a dissident who is abandoned by Korea in 1980 and defects to Germany, where he seeks asylum. His family falls into danger, and the film is about his fight to save them. Directing is Noh Gyu-yub, who was on the crew of The Show Must Go On. [Xports News]
- Newbie actor Seo Ji-hoon made his debut in tvN’s hit thriller Signal, as the evil privileged high school student who was behind the horrible incident that changed Lee Je-hoon’s family forever. He’s following that up with a leading role in the new KBS drama special Legendary Shuttle, alongside Lee Ji-hoon (Six Flying Dragons). Seo will play the school jjang, and Lee will be a member of his tough circle. The drama special about bullying in high schools will air in August. [Xports News]
- There’s going to be a Chinese drama remake of the 2008 KBS series Women of the Sun, the melodrama about birth secrets and ambition that starred Kim Ji-soo and Lee Hana as sisters separated in childhood. Nicky Wu (Severe Winter, Bu Bu Jing Xin) and Qi Wei (Singing All Along) will headline the remake, which is in development but still hasn’t confirmed a broadcast date. [Joy News]

Ooooh. Just imagine. What if Shopping King Louie is actually about King Louis XVI prior to the French revolution who gets a one time chance from fate to survive the revolution by losing his memories of the time (and his love Marie) and being reborn into modern day Seoul as an amnesiac king who has to shop for his humanity so as to get connected to his love and experience what true wealth is... family, friends and love.

I would totally watch that! We should do some sort of magical machin-chose-thing-majinked and get Itenoria to switch placed with the writer of Shopping King Louie! We can't let these story ideas go to waste!

I wish Park Min Young would come to Korea and do dramas here instead. I want to see Sungjae back in dramaland but not sure about Shopping King Louie. Heir and amnesiac? Pfft.
The production of My Sassy Girl is really capitalizing on this casting concept. Hope they select the right actress who can act and isn't just pretty.

To each his own. KDW is undeniably talented. And I did watch that drama a couple of times. But couldn't stand the grandfather. And although KDW was great some of my impressions are of his loose hanging clothes. Plus really lame office conversations that could do with some updating. I think the series only worked because he carried that role.
However since I like contract marriage dramas wouldn't mind an updated version. Where the leads are nice people. And they wear proper fitting clothes. And have sleeker more polished lines please.

It will be interesting to see if HSJ goes with the same high-strung, neurotic characterization that KDW used. It worked well with KDW's skinniness and played so well against the lead actress' warmth and calm. HSJ has such natural physical gravitas with his looks but would be hilarious going for the comedy in the same way. Looking forward to seeing what they do with it, I loved 1%.

Happy to see Yeon Woo-jin racking up the movie roles, even if it means I can't have him in dramaland.
Lol, seriously. I know Healer was popular in China, but both Park Min-young and Ji Chang-wook are spending an awful lot of time there since it wrapped.
I'm interested in that drama special with Lee Ji-hoon and Seo Ji-hoon.

Hey GF I think you've got the wrong Zhang Han for the Park Min Young drama. It should be Zhang Han (Boss and Me, The Four)
On topic, I've noticed a lot of K-actors are heading to China. Healer couple, Lee Jong Seok, Goo Hye Sun all have C-dramas lined up this year.

And it's a historical drama. Here is the trailer, you can see PMY at 0:28

If anyone has seen My Amazing Boyfriend, aka the C-drama that bears slight resemblance to You From Another Star, the female lead from that show is also in the trailer at 0:33 (I think that's her)

that one is definitely zhang han,

Yoona and kim jung hoon have drama this year too as I remember,
park hae jin and victoria fx also already had drama few years back

Yep it's Zhang Han and Park Min Young for Braveness of the Ming. It was shot last year and should air soon.
GF has reported on a different drama I believe, with PMY and Zhang Zhe Han from Nirvana in Fire. I got confused because the names were so similar lol.

Sorry forgot to add that yes I've heard of Yoona's C-drama. Park Hae Jin's drama was bad in my opinion. What i hate the most is the dubbing, it sounds really bad and that's what I'm dreading about Ji Changwook's next called Mr. Right.

I watched that one with PHJ, I don't think I finished it, or maybe?
oh god, it is bad but to be fair I like the dialogue, mostly in the 1st part,
the dubbed is obvious weird and didn't match him at all,
I kinda like the 1st half, mostly bc PHJ is always smiling on screen to reminds me that I definitely stay this long just for the visual,
the character got the easy way out and that infuriate me, at least slap them, both of the lead's ex-fiance and his new fiancee/the step sister of female lead, also the dad. The PHJ girlfriend also needs to realize she is wrong for more episode,
at least PHJ always look good in every scene, the dude is handsome, no need much wardrobe,

Is that really Zhang Ze Han (Lin Shu in NiF)?
bc he is too young for the role and it maybe Zhang Han (Shan shan comes to eat) like @Zah said
I have a hard time connected to Cdrama dubbed actress/actor that doesn't speak Mandarin/Cantonese,
the flow mostly doesn't match bc of breathing, the tone and the length of each word, and not to mention the weird voice sometimes,
but it's okay to try,
Park Shin Yang is really Jo Deul Ho then, he doesn't back down,

I was looking forward to the 1% of Anything remake as I felt if they got a good new writer to update the storyline and make a few changes along with tightening up the length, it could be a really good rom com. So disappointed to find out the original writer will be doing the remake as I had a few problems with the original script.

Shopping King Lui could be awesome tho.
It could be about an amnesiac girl and an heir to the shopping mall.
He was responsible for the car accident that stole her memory and makes her relive the same day everyday- a day that she goes shopping for a present for her mother's birthday.
Now he follows her around and makes sure that she always has the best day ever by taking her shopping.
He used to be a major jerk but now he changes but his punishment is that she will never love him because everyday he becomes a stranger.
Until one day she regains her memory and she never comes back to the mall and has no memory of the year she spent shopping with him.
And he never finds her.
The end.

Heresy!!!
Hahaha jk. To be fair, law enforcement in Signal had been mixed with politics so it got dirty and seemed like the cops were not doing their jobs (years to solve a crime!!!), but I think they did their best that they could at that time, with however limited resources they had. And it's the same in the present anyway, all countries have unsolved crimes. It's reality, or close to reality.
Meanwhile, I'm gonna check out Punch. You got me curious for a sec.
