Deal loses Yoo Yeon-seok, in danger of losing timeslot too
by girlfriday
I don’t know which bad news came first or if it’s all jumbled in a chicken-egg scenario behind the scenes, but the new SBS melodrama Deal might not be happening anymore. News came out that SBS was reconsidering its timeslot — that’d be Wednesdays and Thursdays after Entertainer — and not long after that, news broke that leading star Yoo Yeon-seok turned down the offer to headline. Is it mean to point out the irony of a drama named Deal losing all its deals?
According to SBS, they’re still in talks over the mid-June timeslot and insist that it could still go to Deal… It’s just that now it also might not, because they’re considering green-lighting a different drama instead. Yoo Yeon-seok’s reps, meanwhile, say that he’s already looking at other projects.
The new drama from writer Choi Ho-chul of Mask and Secret is being called the male version of Mask, a revenge story of a poor man who enters a chaebol family in order to avenge the death of his beloved sibling. Now it’s being described as a story about the death of one weak person, the four men and women surrounding that death, and their love, betrayal, revenge, and ambition. So… like Mask.
PD Park Yong-soon (Divorce Lawyer in Love, 49 Days) is attached to the project now, but without a leading cast, it’s not going to get back on SBS’s schedule anytime soon. Part of me wonders if SBS blew all their money getting hot potato rom-com Jealousy Incarnate and forgot they had a June drama to air before their August drama.
I’m not too heartbroken over Yoo Yeon-seok turning the project down, though it would’ve been nice to see him back in dramaland in June. I’ll just have to cross my fingers that some of the other projects he’s considering will bring him back to television this year.
Deal may still follow Entertainer and premiere June 15. Or maybe not.

He has the face of a hundred people.
I mean, his looks fit almost every role.

Aha, it's also ironic that he was one of the faces in the movie, Beauty Inside–which was about a man that woke up everyday with a new face and body. But yeah, Yoo Yeon-seok can be a real chameleon!

What's the deal with Deal that they can't seem to properly deal until they lost all the deals?
Anyway, I was conflicted about YYS and the drama - part of me wanted him to do it because I need to see him twice weekly and I think he would suit such a role but the other half not really fond of the overused plot. And if he signs on, the drama will have crazy liveshoot schedule since they only have 6 more weeks to go.
But since he passed the Deal already, I can now move on and hope the other projects he's considering are dramas. You hear me YYS. D.R.A.M.A. please.

Maybe he rejected because SBS having some dramas flops now, and Deal will go agains MBC: Lucky Romance and KBS: Uncontrollably Fond so i guess it's a smart move

Though I miss him so much in drama land, I'm glad he didn't pick this for his drama comeback.
Any new news from drama Advance?

I really didn't like Mask after the first half. It got so boring and unadventurous - even slightly 'normal' which wasn't the writer's trademark. So I'm happy YYS turned it down. He can look for something more interesting and fun! Like a romcom because his last drama didn't exist...

Good. It sounded like a fail drama. So glad its scrapped. YYS can do much better than this.

I am glad that YYS passed on this drama, it sounded like a mess in the making, and YYS deserves better. I hope he will sign up for a better drama, hopefully soon!

Glad he declined the offer. YYS has to come back in a winning drama and this one doesn't sound like one...

I'd love it if they find a time slot for it, since it is from the writer of Mask. But I am not sad that Yoo Yeon-seok turned it down. They can certainly find a far better actor than he is, easily. I like the PD too. Please find capable cast for this drama.
