Park Hae-jin eyes an immediate return to dramaland in JTBC’s Man to Man

Glad to see Park Hae-jin is ready to jump back to work after his last drama kind of imploded, and so far the fan reaction to this latest news is pretty much mine, in hoping he’ll have better luck this time.

He is currently considering a drama for JTBC called Man to Man, and it’ll be produced by the production company Drama House, which has a number of critically lauded projects to its name: Secret Love Affair, A Wife’s Credentials, Yoo-na’s Street (all of which were also on JTBC). It’s described as a story of a star actor and the bodyguard who is brought in to protect him, with Park Hae-jin up to play the bodyguard.

My first thought was that the star would be an actress and the two would fall in love, a la Bodyguard — not a bad setup, but a familiar one — but on second thought, it seems more likely to be a male actor. Aside from the title being Man to Man, there’s also mention of bromance, which I find encouraging.

In any case, this production company has proven itself more than capable of nuanced, thoughtful, and emotional material, so I’m expecting they’ll find a solid writer and director team… if only for their sakes, since there may be rioting if not. After the Great Cheese Controversy, public sentiment is overwhelmingly on Park’s side right now, and whether or not it’s accurate, the prevailing belief is that Park was wronged badly by the Powers In Charge of Cheese in the Trap, which has resulted in a very protective attitude toward him. Park’s involvement in Man to Man will likely bring it a lot of extra attention, and it’s probably great time to tackle a new project while there’s so much love being thrown his way.

Man to Man is looking to broadcast toward the end of the year on JTBC.

Could I ask a cameo from Choi Yoon Young, his wife from My Daughter Seoyoung? Maybe as the avid fan of the actor but turns out the bodyguard falls in love with her. I can't get enough of the cuteness they performed in MDS.
Park Hae Jin, fighting!

Wow this is soon. Really glad that the wait for PHJ's next drama will be reasonable. Even if this doesn't work out, it is at least an indication that he is indeed looking for a new project (and a kdrama at that - double yay). Can't wait to see another work of his :)

This sounds great, and I hope he takes it. Love a bromance and, of course, they'll commiserate over problems with girls, I'm sure.

After the SNAFU with CITT, I think he's wise to jump back in while the irons hot.

What is this?
Since when is it sly to speak up in defence of your character and the work you put into it?

@ Gelai, Gidget,
Acting doesn't just happen on your screens you know, it takes a lot of work, overnights reading and interpreting the script, mind control to get yourself into role and character, especially when you're a fan of the original material and concerned about doing justice to it, and then actual hours shooting and reshooting scenes to bring the character to life, months of promotion - acting is commitment, you commit your time and talent and reputation so of course the outcome would affect you and the product is important to you as is your right.
This is why there is a relationship of trust and reliance between actor and director, from the actor's side to bring to life the director's vision and from the director's side to actually have a vision & to enhance and not undermine an actor's work.

We will never really know what went wrong bts, but people already did notice something was wrong way before PHJ said anything, and more than trying to separate his image I see it as him unable to deny his disappointment in a drama & storyline that he could no longer trust. And no, a person doesn't stop being the wronged party as soon as he speaks out, that's not how it works. Tritely saying not to victimize a person who IS in fact a victim is not a edgy sort of empowerment, that's victim shaming. The writer Soonki was also offended and spoke up, was she also having an agenda in making her self look good and blameless to the public, never mind that her work was being turned into a bad dramatic experiment as the director took off on a frolic of her own, I mean, who cares about the actual craft when you have public sentiment to manipulate in your favor right? Have you ever put your energy, trust and creativity into something only to have someone else who is in control of it play fast and loose with it? At that point more than your public image, professional integrity is more important. And it is ugly to see people imply otherwise. You wouldn't want anyone to do to you what was done to PHJ/Soonki in your work or school or whatever if you think about it carefully, yet it's easy to imply nothing wrong was done to PHJ, is it because he has no thoughts, feelings or pride of work, he's just an actor who only cares about how much the public fawns on him...lol
Simply put, the drama let PHJ down, in the work he expected (on the strength of which he took this job), the work he did (cut scenes, changed scripts, actor replacement) and the work he could have done (sidelined character, zero development), why is it so hard to put bias aside and be reasonably sympathetic.

I just can't at the snarky implications here

@ Gidget, (and Gelai earlier)

Might I add that he never complained about screen time either, the guy specifically clarified that. BTW the fact that PHJ suffered does not mean SKJ did not - the fuckery is not mutually exclusive

All right, this is perfect, I'm soooo ready to forget that poor excuse of a drama that shall not be named. This can only be topped by news of Kim Go-eun's casting in a drama!

They should! Well, not sure if this drama will have romance, but I'd like to see them together in something. It would fulfill our unmet desires. :(

So glad that PHJ is looking at another role....Hoping this new role will not screw him over like the last one...PHJ was so good as YJ! I am still so traumatized!.. I love YJ from the webtoons and PHJ was so delivering YJ vibe....If only the crazy PD or whoever was behind the switch of focus of the drama halfway. It would have been a EPIC drama. It was DARN GOOD the first half! I mean it was like CRACK! PHJ FIGHTING! Hopefully you will get a good romantic partner too!

Oh please...no love triangles again and definitely no pianos. Will he be a lead here? Coz if they are getting a huge star then he might just be the second lead which is fine. But I'm kinda hoping that after CITT, he deserves a really great role with a great story. He's acting is so fine. It touches your emotions when he's delivering his words. I hope he gets more projects 'coz I would love to see him in a lot of swoon worthy moments:)

I just from another site and saw something interesting. Somehow Do Kyungsoo did mention Man to Man in his interview, didn't know exactly what it is about. Did it corelate with PHJ new drama? Is he the hallyu star PHJ has to protected?
If it is true, wow, it will turn out more interesting. I don't want that hallyu star always connected to man with height, sexy, abs, etc. If Do Kyungsoo will be hallyu star, it will be wonderful. He will show different aspect of hallyu star. It will promote new light to korean culture. Especially since I know that DKS is very polite, humble, and very down to earth star even though as one of the top idol group in Korea.

I feel like the trend lately is the entertainment business, focusing on actors/singers and their entourage (manager, bodyguard, etc.). This isn't necessarily bad, especially if like this drama is promising it brings lots of bromance to the screen! Good luck to PHJ.
