OCN drama pairs Seo In-gook as charming swindler, Sooyoung as upright civil servant

Ah, so the cast has been finalized for OCN’s scam-artists-catching-scam-artists drama Police Unit 38, and it’s the same actors that were initially in contention: Seo In-gook (I Remember You), Sooyoung (My Spring Days), and Ma Dong-seok (Bad Guys). I like the actors, and moreover, I like the way this drama is taking a humorous spin on a crime squad, so this is good news.
The drama is a little oddly specific in its premise: A team is assembled to go after tax evaders using any means necessary, which includes using the criminals’ own tactics to trick them and bring ’em down, whether it’s through lies, subterfuge, con artistry, or the like. Is it strictly ethical? Well, maybe not exactly… but sometimes you just want people to get things done, and a bureaucratic system full of red tape is not exactly the most efficient justice delivery vehicle.
(Fyi, the title is translated Police Unit 38, where Article 38 of the legal code is the part that deals with tax payment. The word for police unit has a prefix attached that plays on the word for scam, since the team will employ scams of their own in catching their targets.)
Seo In-gook will play a charming swindler who’s sexy, smart, and glib, which makes for frankly perfect casting. It should also give us a fun match-up, since he’ll have an unlikely bromance with Ma Dong-seok, who plays the upright, righteous chief of the tax collection department. Sooyoung, meanwhile, lives by the rules as a civil servant working in the tax evasion department who is principled and logical in everything — which suggests to me that she may not have the easiest adjustment to working with our con artist hero. Should be a fun meeting of personalities, and the producers promise a fast tempo to the cases, humor, and satisfying plots.
Police Unit 38 comes from writer Han Jung-hoon, who’s already produced several hit OCN crime dramas, Bad Guys and both seasons of Vampire Prosecutor. Directing is PD Hwang Joon-hyuk of Hidden Identity. It will air in June.

As if I needed another reason to look forward to summer for...
I have loved most of the OCN crime dramas but haven't been watching Neighborhood Hero so definitely need my fix soon! Though hopefully Vampire Detective that airs after Neighborhood Hero will be good as well...

So freakin YES ! Sooyoung is headleading two dramas for early 2016 which makes up for her absence in KDramaland in 2015, haha.
I am still disappointed that she doesnt get to play a detective nor a con artist though. I hope she will still disguise somehow to trick their targets ... Sometimes, maybe ? Lol.
And I like the two guys especially Ma Dong Seok who was marvellous in Bad Guys and all his other projects, haha. Cameos by the killer team of Bad Guys, maybe ?

Am watching Bad Guys now with my husband a bit slowly because of our schedules. He keeps asking 'what's the name of this show' and I tell him to thing if the characters as the mnemonic, lol. It's fantastic, stunning cinematography, complex characters with hearts waiting to grow like the Grinch (hopefully). And I Remember You became my all time favorite, one I can't help comparing characters and scripts of dramas to, (here's looking at you Madame Antoine). Yes, whyyyy can't we get season 2 of such stellar works as BG and IRY (let's throw Vampire Detective 3 for good measure)

Sooyoung and Jung Kyung Ho keep making interesting couple drama choices. First Sooyoung played someone who falls in love with the widow of her heart donor, then her boyfriend plays someone who falls in love with the ex of his heart donor. Then Jung Kyung Ho takes on a drama with Jang Na Ra, and his girlfriend signs on for a drama with Seo In Guk, who's Jang Na Ra's most recent on-screen partner.
Now I'm kind of hoping all four of them become besties and hang out together and send each other food trucks bc that would be adorbs.

Haha that is cool, never really occurred to me! And speaking of Sooyoung, I'm not in the least bit worried about her casting. She's actually a pretty good actress and is hilarious to boot. I've always loved her random quips on reality shows and interviews. She also seems like a really nice person. JKH chose well, she's a keeper!

Seo Inguk is getting better day by day. I like his performance in I Remember You.
And Ma Dongseok is really good in crime series.
If it's the writer behind Bad Guys, I'm in. It's not that captivating but enjoyable.

I can't wait to watch this. SIG and MDS are the main reason to watch. Only watched SY briefly in Cyrano Dating Agency, which I never finish. Hope this would be another good drama of SIG to remember before he join MS. *fingerscrossed*
