Odds and Ends: Attainable goals

javabeans: Happy New Year, everyone!

girlfriday: Wheeeee! I’m not really ready for a whole new year, but I guess I have no say in the matter.

javabeans: Really? I’m kind of over 2015, which I guess is good because it’s… over. It wasn’t a bad year, it just ran its course.

girlfriday: I just feel behind on 2016 things, like new year’s resolutions and such.

javabeans: Oh psh, like you really make those? Does anybody actually make those intending to see them through? Or is it just a thing you say you’ll do, like voting or paying your taxes?

girlfriday: Um… you DO have to do those things. You do those things, right?

javabeans: Okay fine, yes those things get done, but I mean in the spirit of wanting to do them. Nobody actually enjoys it.

girlfriday: Nobody WANTS to do their new year’s resolutions. You just have to make them anyway.

javabeans: What, they’re culturally mandated or something?

girlfriday: Yes, culturally mandated failure. Like, I’m not gonna drop 30 pounds like Shin Mina did in Oh My Venus, but at least we all won’t lose 30 pounds together!

javabeans: Although, I would at least give it an honest go if So Ji-sub were part of the deal. Actually, would having So Ji-sub as your trainer be more effective, or less?

girlfriday: Less, because you’d be so distracted by his beautiful face to do all those push-ups or whatever.

javabeans: But then, if you had that beautiful face asking you to do things for him, like push-ups, wouldn’t you do your darnedest to make him happy?

girlfriday: Okay yes. Especially if he made all our workouts as suggestive as they are in Oh My Venus.

javabeans: Yes, those workout sessions are all hilariously sexual.

girlfriday: But I wouldn’t want to work TOO hard at the workouts, just in case I lost all the weight super fast and then he went away forever. Sadface.

javabeans: You would have to work really hard to lose weight with him, and then work just as hard to self-sabotage that effort behind his back… but only a little, so you still saw progress, just not too much, but enough that he knew you were trying. Calibrating progress to that level of detail sounds more exhausting than just losing weight. Basically, it would be the most work I put into anything ever.

girlfriday: But then it would be an excuse to work out and then come home, pop in an episode of Let’s Eat, and eat all the cake I want. I could literally have my cake and eat it too!

javabeans: Mm, cake. I vote for more cake anytime. Any other drama-inspired resolutions on your list?

girlfriday: Hm, there aren’t a lot of attainable goals in the current dramas… I can’t really found a new nation, or catch killers…

javabeans: I suppose “don’t get Alzheimer’s” isn’t much of a goal either, or “Go back to school for a college degree” when we’re still eyeballs in debt for the first one.

girlfriday: I could try to defeat a vampire overlord, if I meet one this year. Or learn medicine in anticipation of that impending earthquake disaster.

javabeans: I certainly don’t need to fantasize over falling in love with a Joseon king (he could basically have you killed for looking at him wrong!), or anyone I knew 7000 days ago. (Shudders at the thought.)

girlfriday: Oh, I found one! I could imagine that my cat is thinking snarky thoughts at me all the time. I’m pretty sure he’s been doing this for years.

javabeans: And I could eat a lot of food for no reason and make lots of porn-food faces.

girlfriday: Done and done! Our 2016 is already a success.

Happy New Year, DB and fellow Beanies!

I hate resolutions, especially on January 1st, since I know by now they all will be in vain, lol ;-) So, I go with the flow and adjust to each year's demanding schedule - I hate loosing; therefore, I recently adopted a more "passive" technique in order to ease my competitive "moi" and become more productive in my everyday life.
I ate and drank my fair share (and beyond!) these last few days and I'm sure not even SJS (and SJS's body) could make me go back to exercising right now (I'm sure I would have hated him, his face, his abs and all his other extremely super pumped muscles, had he made me do all those routines on holidays).

My resolution is binge-watching more (MOAR!) So Ji-Sub. By that measure 2016 has already been a smashing success.

i think I was the only one who liked cain and abel...
maybe because Han Ji Min and So Ji Sub were so cute together that I forgot about the plotline. I was only anticipating their scenes together and didn't care about anything else.

My resolutions for the new year are simple: don't make them! I currently peddle away on my exercise bike while watching my favorite dramas. Oh my venus is worth at least 30 minutes before I collapse and even then I'm smiling?

Thanks for the laugh! Here is to another great year of drama recaps.
The site keeps crashing though, hope the issues is not too big!

I personally had it with this phenomenon of new year's resolutions. Mainly because I secretly do make them, and sometime halfway in that year I want to kick myself for doing that. SO OVER IT.
Drama-wise: quantity<<<<quality! I should really finally learn how to drop the bad and the ugly ones, and finish the good ones. I already did one thing right, watching more Japanese dramas/movies than I did last year.

Just my personal opinion; Road No.1 was the most underrated drama of So Ji Sub. It is a shame that MBC didn't give even a slight recognition for that drama. Clearly, they gave out awards based in rating not on performance. How could Michievous Kiss and Personal Preference received nominations & awards and won over Road No. 1.

Happy New Year! Road No 1 is worth to watch in 2016. It is one way of understanding Korea.

You guyss should watch glass slippers ^^ SJS is such a cutie in that drama and its has 40 episodes so you can see SJS for 40 episodes (well actually 37, because in the first 3 episodes there's child actors). His character in Glass Slippers is different from all the characters he has recently played.

Just finished "Let's Eat 2" and really enjoyed it.

Since I didn't see the 1st one, didn't have all the angst about the previous cast (aside from YDJ not returning, but think I'll like the 2 better anyway as I like the cast better and probably the story as well (based on some comments), just as I had liked INR2012 better than the 1st INR.

Really liked YDJ (he really has this charm and is a pretty good actor) in both this and SSL, but Seo Hyun-jin stole the show (liked her in "The Three Musketeers", but loved her in LE2.

There have been numerous negative commentary about her character, Baek Soo-ji, mainly about not being so nice to YDJ's Dae-young, but she had reason (albeit a bit misguided) to be mad/hold a grudge at him, but really had a good heart, despite having a # of flaws.

Don't understand why people want the female lead to be overly "nice" or not have flaws - that just makes for a more boring heroine.

Kind of like when Soo-ji didn't act naturally and like herself when she was w/ the 2nd lead love interest and crush - as opposed to when she was with Dae-young.

The stroy-line of the troubled kid living on the rooftop was unnecessary, but overall, like that the show pretty much revolved around everyone's relationship to each.

Unlike OMV - there was no silly backstory which took away from the important stuff.

Really hope there is a LE3, but this time - keeping more of the cast from LE2 (and maybe bring back a couple of character, like his ex, from LE1).
