2015 Beanie Awards: Vote for your favorite dramas of the year

Can you believe it’s December?! Where did my year gooooooo. On the upside, that means the 2015 Beanie Awards are here, and it’s your chance to weigh in on all your favorites (and less-than-favorites) of the year. We’ll also be kicking off our annual Year-End Review Extravaganza, which will be a little different this year with a slightly altered format—keep an eye out as we post the reviews in the coming days and weeks!

You can browse the reviews of previous years using this handy Year In Review tag, and check out past polls. Due to the death of Twiigs, the polling service we used in past years, we had lost all the poll information from past years, but were able to retrieve the majority thanks to reader tips about the Wayback Machine. (Thanks again! We owe you!) Sadly we may never again see what brilliant entries and responses we had in 2011 or 2014, which I’m sure were stunning and irreplaceable and probably our best work, since there’s no way to confirm that it wasn’t. Just trust us on that one!

Courtesy of the Wayback Machine and +PrtScn:

Oh, due to popular request, we opened up some of the larger categories to multiple choice voting, although most of the polls are still one-choice-only. (If the indecision brings you pain, it just proves you care!) Let the angsting commence! (The polls will be open until the end of the year, so you can come back on January 1 to see the final results. And psssst… you can vote once a day!)

Yay for Healer dominating the charts!!!!!!
And Ji Sung for getting his own poll, that seriously was pleasant surprise.

I see that I Remember You managed to grab quite a few votes in many of the categories - it must be pretty good then? Was it one of those really underrated dramas and had really hard competition? Because I seriously don't remember hearing much or any buzz from that drama either in Korea or amongst my friends. Is it worth watching?

It's really good but kinda underrated both in buzz and rating. It's more about psychological thriller, so not too many action. Maybe that's why people not really interested in it. But it definitely worth watching.

I remember You, stayed in fans' hearts, not just because there is a certain Min-ya... but also because it bring out a very special OTP, not because of the chunks of cheesy moments, but because the female cast having this very strong character, as if she was the mountain and shoulder that Lee Hyun can fall back on, every time he worn out... above that, the very controversal debates about Psychopath, and the birth of Psycho, it gave a human heart to what many think of heartless beings. it even show the few, say 3 diff kind of psycho... bring out the Big Question"Psycho are born or made"... then there are the cheesy Bromance, which i personally can appreciate, but respect the likes of others in this beanie world.
all in all, IRY is diff, when compared to big actions, or stunning beauties, or 6-pac hunks...
its just a rating only, like any KBS drama award... this year shall comes to pass, IRY fans will tell SIG when they see him one day, "i remember you in "I REMEMBER YOU""... this matters more right?

But I think it was the Bromance which made the viewers got touched. And made IRY be one the most memorable Kdramas. Without the bromance, it would just be a normal drama.

0

the bromance was everything. everything else was like every other thing (except team leader Chunnie, he was such a teddy! ) the brothers relationship was like dancing on the edge of a knife, love, sacrifice, doubt... ultimately, Mins´ devotions was great, but it didnt press down all of the psychopath in him. and Hyun, so torn, so desperate to win Min back to normality, even if it was a lost fight from the beginning. his responsibility as a big bro, and how Min was still little in his eyes, that needed air drying and feeding with a spoon. I loved that relationship so much. if anything, it became too harmonious. there was always something eerie behind an invisible door..

I Remember You is definitely, solidly, my best drama of this year. It's chronicling the story of a psychopath who changes a family's life irrevocably, and when the victim grew up, he became interested in finding this killer, working alongside an investigation team. It sounds so generic if I say it like this, honestly, but once you watch it, it's sooo much more worth it. It's a story about how psychopathic minds work, how villains think and 'feel' and how are monsters made? I feel like this drama offers so much hidden, buried meanings underneath every scene. The layers are paced well, so that the tension is always there, and its always deeper than what it looks. The romance is there, but it's one of my favorites; no bickering, just support, honesty and pure friendship at the core. Moreover, the show doesn't treat us like fools. It assumes we're smart, and then throws us in right away. Watch it! It's underrated, so that's probably why you didn't hear much...but it truly is a gem of a drama. Plus Seo In Gook and Park Bo-Gum are both in it! (*squeals*)

I Remember You best quality was the deppth with which the actors went into their roles. It became more than playing, it was like they crossed the line between reality and their assumed role. you know, like when kids are playing and they are so engrossed all their emotions become real...

Oh and thank you.......

...... for reminding me that the only 2015 drama I've finished is Persevere lol. Oh and there's also WAY: School!(wait, it's not 15 episodes long?). I really like most of the dramas this year and started almost all of them. And I don't think I've dropped anything. I just forget about completing them hehe. I've finished more of the older dramas. I guess I'll be marathoning a lot of dramas this christmas ;)

But really, thank you!

Finished voting! The only thing I don't like about these polls is how people just vote for their fave drama regardless of the category. I could tell because there's a couple dramas that keep winning every single category. I've watched majority of them and I've honestly seen other nominees compared to the ones winning. Like there's one category where I would put the winning nominee at the very last. I get that this is personal preference, but it seems like you've only watched one drama this entire year

I wanted a Favorite OST category, too, even though Jang Jae In's "Auditory Hallucination" is a shoo–in.

My favorites this year included:
-School 2015 OST: Tiger JK's "Reset," Yoon Mi Rae's "I'll Listen to What You Have to Say," and Younha's "Prayer"
-Reply 1988 OST: EVERY SONG
-She Was Pretty OST: SoYou and Brother Su's "You Don't Know Me" and Kim Min Seung's "Thumping"
-I Remember You OST: Dear Cloud's "Remember," Kim Ye Rim's "Who Are You?," and Hong Dae Kwang's "It Shows"
-D-Day OST: Wendy's "Let You Know"
-Oh My Venus OST: Kim Tae Woo's "Darling U"
-Orange Marmalade OST: Lily M's "I'm Afraid"

Favourite OSTs, here goes:

Sassy Go Go - Hold On There (drove everyone in the recap nuts for weeks until they finally released the full OST and we had a name on 'the whistling song')

Heard It Through the Grapevine - Heard It Through the Grapevine, by Jang Kiha and the Faces.

Scholar Who Walks The Night - Secret Paradise, by Jang Jae In.

just watched parts of I Remember You again and the score in there really creates the vibe. especially in the dinner scene between Hyun and Joon-Ho, when they are chopping vegetables, the music gets so creepy that you jump out of your pants.

Kill Me Heal Me soundtrack, especially title track will linger for long and will be un-mistakably recognized because they are theatric, elaborate, memorable, colorful... I loved Se Gi´s tune Freak from it.

Love year end polls and throwback!

Healer slaying the poll! ??? The fuss it created here in dramabeans and into international fans is trully remarkable!

I haven't watch a lot but I did watch a good amount to say that we had a good year of kdramas this 2015. Personal favorites from what I watched were Healer, Twenty Again, Oh My Ghostess and Producer (just because I love how the bestfriends end up, otherwise, wouldn't want to watch it again). I really liked and impressed by I remember you but OTP is just off for me. Yong Pal isn't exactly that bad on the second half but still wish they went all out on doing a good show. Joo Won still did his best.

Mask was kinda addictive but too makjang also for my taste and personally, I don't really like Soo Ae as an actress. And I think I haven't express enough how disappointed I was on how The Time I love you turned out. ?

Reading through the lists I think that this year's dramas were kind of disappointing. Except for maybe Healer which was a little better than the rest, they're all easyly to forget. So hopefully next year will bring out more memorable dramas...

If anyone picks something other than Answer Me 1988 or Sassy Go Go for best bromance, they are insane. Giving up the girl you love because your best friend loves her too is the definition of best bros.

Also, I don't get all the overwhelming Healer love. Yeah, it was an entertaining show, but I wouldn't say it was better than many others I watched this year.

"Giving up the girl you love because your best friend loves her too is the definition of best bros."

No it isn't, it's a recipe for pain and suffering all around! I was practically screaming when Yoon-jae did it for his bro in 1997, looks like Jung-hwan and Taek are going to be it for me this time (not yet seen ep 9/10)

I much preferred the Sassy Go Go approach, there was still a world of hurt because Yeon-doo liked only one of them, but the boys being honest with each other was what saved their friendship from getting eaten away by guilt/hurt.

If you replace Answer Me 1988 or Sassy Go Go with I Remember You, then that's how I feel.

I'm just going to delusionally believe the only reason HyunMin is losing is because few people have watched I Remember You.

Both 'Sassy Go Go' and 'I Remember You' have the best bromance in my opinion. I alternate between voting between both dramas to give each of them a leg up from the other dramas in that category.

Although I must confess - 'I Remember You' slightly edges out the competition. Something about that heart rending scene where Hyun discovers Min's drawings and confronts him just tugs at my heartstrings ;-)

Almost a week later and those three dramas are the ones leading the field for Best Bromance - it's virtually neck and neck and each drama only has 2-3 dozen votes separating them from the next one (1816 ->1781->1759 for 1988-SGG-IRY)

I have a lover is crazy good (after episode 10 of course). The wait for each episode is killing me.

For those who plans to watch "I have a lover", I recommend watching ep 1-3 and skips ep. 4-9. Continue on watching from ep. 10 and upwards. The drama drags between those episodes but quickly picks up after ep. 10.

Lots and lots of love and admiration for Punch. Can't heap enough praise for it! Exceptionally good ▪ Outstanding ▪ First-rate.

An amazing and underrated gem of a drama with a stellar cast, superb acting performances, a compelling narrative with memorable characters brimming with moral complexity and intriguing shades of grey. Swinging from protagonist to antagonist depending on the situation - chess-pieces in a game/on the board - with interesting traits & facets to their personalities that grab the viewers' attention.

Against the backdrop of a "known" finite amount of time to accomplish one's goals, leave behind a legacy, and plan for your family's security (estate planning)...it was fascinating to watch the individual nature of people (behavior, temperament, and emotion) especially the ambitions, motivations, & tactics/strategy for surviving in a competitive workplace & society.

A character study on philosophical & ideological convictions/belief systems vs. idealism vs. reality.

Your Legacy - What Will You Leave Behind?

yeah, Punch absolutely deserved its ratings and the buzz it got in Korea, which was why I didn't pick it for Most Underrated (it wasn't), but I did pick it for Favourite Thriller/Action drama. Kim Rae-won was absolutely fantastic, actually everyone in the cast outdid themselves.

both Punch and Grapevine have stories that really don't play well with most international kdrama viewers (we generally tend to want escapism in our dramas and not the kind of anger/dark humour of those two dramas) but they were good ones.

I also really liked Shin Hyuk aka Choi Siwon, had a good laugh. from women, cant get round Angry Mom, Kim Hee Sun was amazing there and I am surprised she is not nominated. You are quite male-centered. I also liked Yeon-Doo aka Eun Ji and even the frenemy-villainess Soo Ah .

And even though Surplus Princess was silly and lacked any meaty plot (just running after the man), it still would have deserved a nomination.

(I mean, I get that the Heirs boys were good-looking but they did not have any actual bromance, sorry)

re: why Healer is in the "underrated" cat.
its all about which angle you are lookin' at.
my "virgin-ascension" into the DB sphere, started by Healer. (before that was pure "see-see-look-look"only)
i still remembered just exactly one year ago, when that fandom started, it simply roar every Mon-Tues night, till many of us sneaks times off at school, works just to comment on DB, watched... many make fan-fics, not just in Korea or Asia, or India, Healing power spread to the Brits, the west, even Middle East... and guess what. amid all these, the rating in Korea herself was not doing well. so many of us fans were like, "why koreans' tastes different from International realms?"
guess, many vote Healer as Underrated in terms of that period's low rating.
if you watch IRY, you got the same lament also, IRY happened to garner low ratings too.

remembers, folks, its just KD LAND, where each of us have our dreams, each DRAMA applied to us differently, diff character in diff drama touches diff people.
because of certain experiences in our life, some character or some dialogue/ lines just hit our heart-strings, or even a simple OST trembles us to pieces...
keep this DB land sweet and happy too, by respecting everyone's own likes.
so, let's agree to disagree.
for myself, i learn to accept, too that what i love alot, may be junks to others. and its ok.
while we are "fighting"-verbally, hahaha. jichangwook don't even know right? (but javabeans and girlfriday will be saddened. )
thanks, JB, GF, and all. for swooning with us over awesome OTP, and scolding villains for us, even providing such platform for us to rant, debate, then meet again at another show, making friends.

truth be told, I'm amazed any drama scored ahead of Healer for that category, let alone two (really liked I Remember You for the bromance and general lack of nonsense). And that Sassy Go Go has held out against Healer for the second-place spot for a day and a half now (784/748 to SGG)

0

Ah I guess we will have to wait a couple of days. Healer might overtake even IRY in that category, let alone Sassy Go Go. If Healer fans want to, they will make Healer win every category possible- both underrated and overrated just for the sake of it :P... I hope I don't sound hateful though! I mean I did love Healer a lot!! But I think I liked other shows along with it- can't really be crazy about one show for a whole year!

0

yeah, after the year when Heirs fans besieged the poll and tried to vote Lee Min-ho/Kim Woo-bin for Favourite Bromance ahead of none other than Lee Jong-seok/Kim Woo-bin for School 2013, I know very well what fans of super popular shows are capable of. And it certainly isn't reason.

(sorry to any fans but what LMH/KWB had wasn't even close to a bromance, let alone one to beat the bromance of the decade, NOPE.)

I adore Sassy Go Go and will vote for it in every category I think it deserves but I'm not blind enough to vote it into every category just because it's there (certainly not Best Comedy, because it isn't really one. And certainly not for Best Girlfriends, not in the face of Oh My Ghostess or Answer Me 1988's mom brigade!)

And oop I didn't mean to sound like I hate Healer fans (some of them are sensitive), but yeah, it will probably swamp every 'good' category in which it's been nominated, eventually. That's just fandom, for you.

0

@ObsessedMuch - your prediction was right, it's currently 841/831 to SGG, the gap is narrowing.

Still, I'm happy that little drama held out for two whole days. And it'll always be the most underrated to me!

0

I am not happy that my predictions were correct. I did not go crazy after Sassy as a whole but I really loved its last 3 episodes and it really deserves recognition!

0

I have a really short list of dramas this year.

Best: Grapevine, Punch and My Beautiful Bride.
Best Comedy: Ghostess.
Best sageuk: none

This is fun! And how much do I love that last category? My favorites are Segi & Yo-na but I love all seven of them so voting for one character a day. ^^

My apologies my chingu. I just thought generalizing was not always good. :D

0

Sad that none of my favorites were nominated in the character list but not surprised. My favorite character was Oh Dae-young played by Park Hee-soon from Missing Noir M. The show wasn't my favorite, but Park Hee-soon was great. Jung Jae-young in Assembly is another favorite! I also enjoyed Midnight Diner and Kim Seung-woo but that one must have too underrated since it didn't even make the underrated category!

Also, Missing Noir M was a remake/adaptation? I don't remember any of the press releases mentioning this and can't seem to find any information on this.

Yeah, I was wondering if anyone else had commented on Missing Noir M. I don't recall hearing/reading anything that would suggest that it was an adaptation of anything. But that drama didn't get much coverage, so maybe I just missed it?

I also enjoyed Midnight Diner :) At least it showed up in one category so I could vote for it somewhere.

I love this time of year because it helps me figure out which dramas I missed out on and gives me something to look forward to during my upcoming vacation. Definitely adding I Remember You and Missing Noir M to my list...

Have to say the hardest category for me was definitely Breakout Star - makes me excited for the future though! Had to go with Joo Soo Hyang...her picture with that perfect little smirk just made me get the shivers all over again...slight traumatized still.

"Boo Hoo, First-World Problems" made me realize why some of my friends give me the crazy eye when I try to explain Korean drama plots...Sassy Go Go has to take the cake for that...

OMG had the hardest time choosing between Park Bo-gum from I Remember You and Ji Soo from Angry Mom for breakout performance. Both did an amazing job!

Required fields are marked *

on one hand: Ji Soo wasn´t a psychotic killer.
On the other hand: Bogummie was the cutest killer ever who turned us all twisted. I mean, hello...
and their adoration, towards a love interest and towards a brother, was pretty much equal. it was impossible to return that love as well, but they still received a lot of it.

I would say Ji Soo is still a real rookie and he has a long way to go in his expressions, but Park Bo Gums´ eyes already deliver the chill, the innocence, the doubt, the longing, everythin

Park Bo-geum has the edge in terms of having more varied roles - Ji-soo has had all of two tv roles with any significant screen time, and both have been written off the same template (but still very well played by him). He's in danger of being typecast, which is a real shame because he's got range as an actor and can play more than just rebellious boys.

0

yes, he needs something different now to be able to acquire new skills. I am worried about that too.

Required fields are marked *

It's not that he lacks the skills, since I've seen him in Lunchbox (a cross-country collaboration) where his role was NOTHING like Bokdongie or Ha-joon, not a hint of bad boy about him anywhere. And he played it perfectly.

It's more that his breakout role left such a strong and sympathetic impression that his agency/casting directors don't seem to be able to look at him for anything else. Both his upcoming Korean projects have him playing some version of rebellious and brusque teenagers, which kind of worries me. He also has years of stage experience, so it's not like he's only been playing Bokdongie-like roles forever, but he is too good to end up typecast like this even if he nails it every time.

0

And yeah, it's more that PBG's more varied roles are better known because they've been broadcast. Ji-soo's acting experience has been largely outside of tv, in much smaller projects - Lunchbox or even Seoul mates wasn't a project intended for a wide audience, so he's limited by what he got known for in the first place.

0

I ultimately voted for Park Bo-gum because even though I loved Ji Soo and want him to be in everything, PBG blew me away by his acting in I Remember You. He perfected the innocent and adoring brother and the psychotic killer and could go from one to the other within a second without a hitch. He turned what could have potentially been a boring or uninspired character into a very complex and sympathetic psychopath.

But then I went and voted for Ji Soo today because I can't deny him my love >.>

One comment on JS: Ji Sung just had the fan concert. He sang more than 10 songs (OST, request songs, old songs) all live. He got emotional/teared up singing ABA's song, and said "When I did my debut show Kaist, there was only one fan. When he asked me to sign for him, I didn't even have my own signiture. I have never dreamt that I could have my own concert in front of many people'.
Fighting! Glad DB can give him much deserved awards!

Thank you JB and GF for dedicting an entire catagory for Ji Sung. I had posted below in my IG!

Snubbed !!! A discussion among personalities.

Yo Sub: Hyung, first it was Beaksang, then SDA now APAN? Totally unfair!

Yo Na: Do Hyun Oppa, can I "Borrow" at least one from KSH oppa, like for ever?

Perry: Lets make bombs. Need to blow up something, anything.

Se Gi: Damn it. Damn it. This is invalid.

Do Hyun:

Yo Sub, life is unfair. When you are given lemons, make a lemonade.

Yo Na, You can't steal an award from KSH oppa, its not the same as stealing a kiss from Ri On!

Perry Hyung, Let's not bomb anything. You want another Beer?

Se Gi, I agree. It's invalid. Let's not get worked up and try to work even harder in next project but don't expect any recognition!

Yo Sub: Should we just...go together?
Me: Um... help!

Ji Sung has been snubbed so many times it's so sad. Even sadder is that some Kim Soo Hyun's fans write bad things about him because many fans were saying he deserved Daesang more than Kim Soo Hyun. I'm a fan of both actors but I don't get why would they diss Ji Sung? He hasn't done anything wrong.

JB and GF, Thank u for making a complete category dedicated to Ji Sung and his 7 personalities.
I truly can't decide who my fav personality is - as all 5 major have something unique to offer.

Ahn Yo Sub - A smart suicidal bookworm that enjoys music but wants to stop suffering for all of them.

Ahn Yo Na - A bubbly, fierce girl that takes the suffering without question. That is why she loves oppas and idols and everything pink.

Perry Park - A chicken/beer lover, bomb maker, fatherly figure that want to forget the past and look forward to future.

Cha Do Hyun - A gentleman that is so conflicted about his DID and tries to build a virtual wall so no one can get close to his emotions.

Shin Se Gi - A man-child, a very fractured and tattered personality that just wants to be loved.

Nana - i wish they had made farewell conversation between Ji Sung and HJE so we would have seen his acting chops for 7 yr old girl.

Mr X - what can i say about a magician dad that he is glad that he is not superman. Lol

His acting was SUPERB (daebak). ?

As usual dramabeans your polls with the one-liners are so funny. I selected Assembly as the most underrated drama for 2015 primarily because the overall quality was excellent and it did not need romance to tell its story. Its a must watch. Also there were 2 dramas not mentioned Cheo Yong 2 (OCN) paranormal detective show and Riders; Catch Tomorrow (new) and seen on viki not sure of the station that brought it - nice drama.

I did not watch Misaeng (shame on me), however I recommend that SFD - Byun Yo Han to be included as breakout star for 2015; he definitely has caught a lot of viewers etal notice from this drama. There are a lot of dramas here that I did not watch, but that's okay, because I've gotten more selective plus I have given up on weekend dramas.

Also, I had just discovered I Remember You (Hello Monster) this past weekend and binge watched the whole thing. So good! Where have I been all this time? Glad these are getting some recognition.

On the other hand, She Was Pretty? Meh...Siwon was really the only great thing about it and after a while I couldn't even watch for him. I'm just surprised it's polling so well.

Man, the best character categorie was sooooo hard this year!

Required fields are marked *

My categories would be:

Dramas I finished and asked for seconds and thirds and licked my plate:
I Remember You -I could eat this every day
Angry Mom - there was a lot to chew on and I sometimes put the bitter parts aside, but savoured the sweet bites and just adored them from afar
Kill Me, Heal Me - was this dish made of one ingredient used in 7 different ways, or 7 different ingredients? Anyway, the rice was fully cooked.
Sassy Go Go - that portion was way too small.

Dramas that did give a sense of fulfillment, but weren´t really gourmet
Oh My Ghostess - licking your screen is not the same as being able to taste those kisses...DISHES, I mean dishes! jeez.
Heart to Heart - the dish was slightly burnt. Just slightly. But that never really bothered me.
Girl who sees smells - when your title reminds me of seashells and there are none in the dish.
She was pretty - why would you put THAT ingredient together with THIS one, if it compliments THAT one so much better?

Dramas I did finish when I re-heated the dish:
Night Scholar (seriously why did we need a long title? Learn from Gwi, short names, easy to remember). Sorry, Ninja Teacher, you were great, but the sauce was terrible.
Hyde, Jekyll, Me - fish, marshmallows, spam.
Falling for innocence - not falling for the finger bite trick again. I couldn´t taste anything
Mask - it is impossible to eat with one, but they kept switching the dishes as well.

The dish that is in the process of being made and I am snitching bites until the pot is empty before it is finished
Reply 1988 - why are the cooks so slow...*takes the peels out of garbage and eats them too* yum...

Dramas, that are like trendy superfoods: way overpriced, supposed to be heavenly but I just can´t get anything down:
Healer - reading the package is already confusing and then the contents feel a bit stale
Shine or go crazy - by the title I am afraid to even try this dish. would it make me glow in the dark or just think I am
Ho Gu´s love - a great name for a dish, but that´s as far as I go when they bring the plate

Dramas I have not found a way to eat:
Six Flying Dragons - so...how do you grasp them, exactly? I seem to have missed something...
Heard it through the grapewine - um... excuse me, I think I am in the wrong restaurant. *whispers to self: way out of your class, fox, this is not for you*

Dramas I ate too cold to enjoy
Awl - it is nice and a serious attempt at cooking, but it feels like the fire went out and it is slightly cold and raw...

Dramas I left on the plate and didnt feel sorry not paying the bill (certainly no tips!)
The Time I loved you - that dish had been on the plate wayyyy before it was brought to me
Blood - well, um, blood.
Warm and cozy - hey, I didn´t ask for a tea pot on my head

The dramas that were not on the menu which I would have ordered had I known they were good:
Midnight diner . I was sleeping already!
Because it is the first time - I am in this...

0
4
reply

Required fields are marked *

continued:
Because it is the first time - I am in this restaurant
Last - well, looks like it

Dramas I would have cooked up
That one about the Vampire carpenter who makes coffins - hammering makes it tender
That one about supervillains having a complaint choir in an abandoned shack - order one, get two for free
That one about the narcissist king - but it is too good for you.

TBC...

My most underrated drama is the Ex-Girlfriend Club, it's not just funny, it's witty. It's a refreshing slice of life show with no chaebols and geniuses, and I swear I laugh more on this show's (cut) episodes than any other complete drama! How I love that each character has their own appearance BGM.
I wish more people are watching this show. Still smarting about the episode cut until now, hu hu hu.
Also, am currently still mulling between Shin Se Gi and Ahn Yoo Na...
