Jung Jin-woon joins JTBC rom-com Madam Antoine

2AM member and actor Jung Jin-woon (Marriage Not Dating) is the newest addition to JTBC’s upcoming weekend drama Madam Antoine, which recently secured Han Ye-seul (Birth of a Beauty) and Sung Joon (High Society) to headline.

I’ve been curious about this drama because the initial description was so vague that it left me wondering; it was touted as a quirky romantic comedy about psychologists. Now we have more details, which are an interesting mix of traits: It’s about a couple who understand other people’s feelings but not their own, and the “psychological game” between them as they fall in love.

Han Ye-seul is a “fake fortuneteller” who believes in the fantasy of love, who is particularly skilled at reading people’s feelings. Sung Joon is a top psychologist who is insensitive to love, yet also so good at his job that his Hollywood star clientele calls him “soul doctor.” Jung Jin-woon’s character is a former athlete.

So basically, this is a psych version of ye olde opposites-attract romance. I can totally see Han Ye-seul playing a quack psychic (I’m presuming Madam Antoine is her fortunetelling name?), and like her best when she goes for the quirky, bold characters in comedies. I’m not sure I want Sung Joon being insensitive and emotionless, but I can see him fitting that image, and at least this time he won’t be a psycho shrink. (One hopes.) As for Jin-woon, we have very little explanation of his role but I think he’s an actor who adds charisma to his roles, and enjoy him when he’s being playful and funny.

Madam Antoine is written by Hong Jin-ah of The King 2 Hearts and directed by My Name Is Kim Sam-soon and Can We Marry’s PD Kim Yoon-chul. It will premiere on November 27 as the next Friday-Saturday drama to follow D-Day.

Eh I really thought that this guy was quite wooden in both MND and Dream High 2. Didn't matter much in MND since all he had to do there was to be all pretty.

and that being pretty in MND? He nailed it ?

He totally sold the bromance. I really kind of wanted a three-way resolution in that drama.

Or just a three-way would have been acceptable.

Same here. He can stand around and do the pretty (like most JYP products, for that matter) but I don't expect him to accomplish any heavy lifting. Unless its a barbell. >Yawn<

Two great male leads. Why did they have to pick this horrid actress with them? She has nothing going for her. Not pretty and does not know how to act.

While the idol can act and he's one of the "great male leads"? Hmmm...Are you sure you know who he is? I mean he has one perfect body with the muscles and all but he can't really act. Even SJ has not done anything impressive on the mainstream channels' productions he worked in lately. I can see your point (just a little bit) as long as it's about the female leading actor and her alone. The comparison makes no sense whatsoever (unless you don't actually know who the other actors are).

I don't get it really. Jin Se Yeon, Go Sung Hee and Suzy get all sorts of hate for supposedly being bad actresses when guys like this actually get praised.

I so wanted to watch Dream High 2 for Kang So Ra, but this guy ruined the show for me. In MND he was fine being a wallflower but his scenes that were supposed to have emotional gravitas just didn't work.

Han Ye-seul (Birth of a Beauty) - So bad in every way possible. Both her and that horrid drama. She is playing a fake? So much like what she seems to be in her roles. Fake wooden actress.

[lowers standards again] Can we just see him with his shirt off? Can he play a swimmer/diver/boxer? Then I'm good with it.

Behold everyone! Really low standards can work perfectly! So, count me in for the shirtless scenes...All those hours at the gym had really, really paid off and the man brings shame upon other young men and their (not ballooned enough) bodies...

The only thing I'm wary of with this is that Jinwoon will pull and Park Hyungsik and outshine Sung Joon.

High Society fans know this.

I don't think we have to worry about him stealing the show... If you watched 'Marriage not dating', you'd know what I'm talking about...He's sure handsome but that's all about it, his acting is really awkward (wooden). Park Hyung Sik on the other hand can act (ever watched Sirius?), that's why I wasn't really surprised when everyone were raving about second leads actors in High Society (he's literally the saving grace of the show), Hyung Sik just proved once again he's an actor worth keeping an eye on in the future...(if he keep pursuing acting of course)
Hyung Sik is one of the most talented idols turned actors imo (Lee Joon, Si Wan, Sooyoung, Yoochun, Seo In Guk are some others).

Sirius was a fantastic short drama and PHS's performance was outstanding to begin with; not the usual "idol-turned-actor" annoying mannerisms that almost always destroy a role no matter how small it is. He did a weekend drama as well as High Society and he was good in both of them.

Exactly my point...I almost watched everything he was in and I've never been disappointed. Except 'The Heirs', that drama was crap and PHS's presence was wasted.

Their are all not acomplished actors but let's see how it goes there can be surprises (especially from sung joon) ..

Hmm I actually found his acting MND to be quite bland. To be fair, practically all he had to do there was smile and be pretty but I remember wanting to smack that smirky grin of his by the end of the drama lol.

Leads aside, I'm still very hesitant to watch any show centred around psychologists/psychiarists. Bonus ick points if there's a doctor-patient 'romance'.

!!

I'm actually excited about this. Han Ye-seul was great in Birth of a Beauty. Sung Joon was... not as good in Hyde, Jekyll, Me, but he's been such a strong actor in other dramas that I'm willing to dismiss that as a writing/directing issue.

I actually really like Jung Jin-woon in dramas. I think he can be incredibly charismatic given the chance, as he was for the first 3/4 or so of Dream High 2.
