The Time I’ve Loved You: Episode 10
by HeadsNo2
Get ready for less of the relationship we might’ve once cared about for the one that no one wants or understands, least of all the two people directly involved. It’s an hour where Hana has to defend her unholy union to those who actually love and care about her with very mixed results, culminating in a tidal wave of red flags that she’s very likely picking up on but ignoring nonetheless. Because nothing, not even sanity, is going to stand between her and lo—…ts of mistakes.
Ratings-wise and without listing every other weekend drama, The Time I’ve Loved You has consistently been in last place and clocked in at 5.5% this episode.

EPISODE 10 RECAP
Won arrives at the wedding after enjoying a flight where he’s waited upon as opposed to the other way around, and afterward attends a party with Hana, Na-young, and their other high school buddies.
Immediately, the others pick up on the strange vibe between Won and Hana, wondering if they’ve been in a fight. Both deny it, but Won handles the deflection much smoother than his counterpart.
Even when Na-young confronts him with the knowledge that Hana is dating Seo-hoo again, Won acts like it’s no big deal and jokes as he would if Hana were in any other relationship. Na-young takes the opportunity to half-jokingly suggest that Won can date her now if he likes.
Though Hana doesn’t notice, Won watches her interact with Seo-hoo when he calls to ask where she is and how long she’ll be—you know, the usual controlling boyfriend stuff.
Hana looks at Won and flashes back to when he’d hugged her before leaving on his vacation, and said: “No matter what happens, I’m always going to be on your side as your friend.” Which really throws me for a loop because he’d made a whole point of saying he couldn’t be on her side before and that things between them would change. I guess that’s that?
“How are things with Cha Seo-hoo?” he asks her, trying to be nonchalant and friendly. “Good,” she answers curtly. She asks him about his vacation spent being ascetic, and notes that he’s changed a bit from his month away—he seems manlier now. And healthier.
She’s being totally serious, so Won seems to be copying her intonation when he says he’s also noticed something different about her… she’s a lot shorter than he is. Leave it to Won to turn every serious moment into a joke, leaving Hana at a loss for words.
Mi-hyang pouts that Won never called her once from his trip as they enjoy sponsored facial masks and sponsored beer, asking what he thought about while he was all by his lonesome. He just says he looked at his life and tried to sort out what he should dispose of and what he should keep.
While Won receives a commendation for being the most caring flight attendant at work, Seo-hoo calls Hana to ask if she regrets not taking him to the wedding party yesterday. She stalls awkwardly and claims it’s because he doesn’t know her friends very well, but he says she’ll come to regret it…
…As he appears at her office door. He later explains that he likes working with her, because it means he can see her anytime and watch her work anytime. She tries to focus him back on the job at hand, but he definitely didn’t come here just to work.
She stops him from doing anything physical at her workplace, and attempts to focus him again. But her words may as well be a foreign language to him, since all he can focus on is her lips as they move as his own form a lascivious smile.
He gets upset when she receives a text from Na-young that makes her smile, because it contains an official photo taken of Won for his Best Employee award.
He’s very concerned about who she’s talking to and why, and when she says it’s just Na-young, he demands that they go out with her later. “I need to know why you’re laughing,” he explains. For the love of womanhood Hana, please wake up and realize he’s a controlling asshat. Please.
Won goes out with his buddies to celebrate his commendation, and ends up singing the soulful lyrics to Kim Bum-soo’s “I Miss You” when he’s drunk. It’s pretty clear who he’s missing.
Speaking of, Hana walks in on Seo-hoo during a practice session, and he wastes no time pulling her into his lap on the piano bench. It’s really discomfiting that she looks so uncomfortable, yet she says nothing in protest as Seo-hoo pulls her in for a kiss.
While in the car, Hana broaches the topic of Seo-hoo going to their main office in China to please their overseas investors, and he says anything’s fine as long as he’s with her. But not anything, since her phone rings and he orders her not to answer any calls when she’s with him.
She does anyway, but it’s too late and she misses the call. Her mother worries about her not answering, and voices her concerns to her husband: “What if she’s dating some weird guy again?” What if indeed.
After a kind warning by Min-ji that the design team is taking a renewed interest in the Seo-hoo collaboration now that things are looking up, Hana crashes their office to remind them that she’s in charge—and anything they come up with needs to go through her. They’ve already stolen one project from her, she won’t let them take two.
When Seo-hoo sends her a text that he’ll come pick her up after work, Hana calls to tell him not to bother—she’ll be working late anyway. Seo-hoo’s got other problems too, since his manager notifies him that his Big Bad Agency will be suing him for breach of contract in light of all he’s doing with Hana’s company.
Seo-hoo’s glad about the lawsuit even though it unsettles his manager, since he can use it to air his grievances against his agency and end his slave contract with them. Because that always works.
Won ends up training all the newbies while So-eun watches intently, and afterward she finds him sitting alone. Even so, he doesn’t want to sit with her. “Your love is also one-sided, isn’t it, Sunbae?” she asks suddenly.
She tells him that she saw Hana and Seo-hoo together, and I love that Won tells her to get to the point. “If you’re staying next to Hana Unni as a friend, then I want to do the same. Staying by your side as a hoobae, please let me do that.” Won shakes his head and tells her not to do something like that. Well, at least he’s clear with someone.
Won finds Hana wandering the grocery store with an empty cart, which means there must be something wrong. She says it’s nothing, but when she finds out that Won took the last bottle of wine she wanted, she play-fights with him to try and steal it for herself.
It feels a bit like old times when they move venues to something that will cover them from the rain with beers in hand. Hana quickly changes subjects when Won asks her how things are going with Seo-hoo (fine, as usual), and mentions how badly she wants to eat chicken feet with him back at their rooftop hideout.
“I think I’m getting old,” she sighs. Won: “You just realized that now?” Hah. She mentions that she used to like the feeling of having her heart flutter so much so she couldn’t think of anything else, but now it’s too draining for her.
She feels like she’s at the proper age for her heart to start getting a little more numb, but adds that it isn’t easy. Won reminds her that having a beating heart is a good thing, but she says she’s just trying to keep going forward without looking back.
Won supports this side of Hana, the side that pushes onward until the bitter end. He’s a bit surprised that she never went to their rooftop while she was away, but only gets a few moments to say it before they go running in the rain.
Using only the newest and best appliances, Won makes his cousin a dish he ate while traveling abroad. She advises him to try dating, though she realizes that while he can, he’s deliberately choosing not to.
Then she asks how easy it was for him to suppress his feelings for a month-long vacation before coming back to just be friends with Hana again. “Am I making it look easy?” he asks ruefully. “It’s not easy. I’m just trying my best.”
Hana leaves for a one-night business trip, and Dae-bok finds out that she’s going with Seo-hoo while on one of his dates with Assistant Hong. She finds his concern for his sister admirable, and Dae-bok puffs up his chest to say that he’d be the most liked male figure in the family… if it wasn’t for Won.
Since Mi-hyang’s decided to start fangirling over Teacher Park, she waits in line for an autograph only for him to ask if she’s not headed over to the bathhouse today.
Horrified, Mi-hyang now knows why she thought he was familiar-looking—she’d encountered him before while on her way to a bathhouse, and the two had bickered since he’d accidentally hit her while jogging. Whoops.
Why Hana should be surprised to find that Won is the flight attendant for her and Seo-hoo’s flight back from Somewhere (because that trip already happened) when she knows the airline he works for isn’t clear, but he maintains a professional air for the flight while sneaking the occasional smile to Hana.
But it’s all a front, since it’s hard for him to bear seeing the two of them together. Nor does Hana make it any easier for others to discern her feelings, since she goes from looking acutely aware and uncomfortable with Seo-hoo to smiling and laughing with him later.
Seo-hoo wants her to invite him out with all of her friends including Won, which Hana is hesitant about. “I love you Seo-hoo, but don’t think all the people around me will accept you.” Yes, because they know he’s the worst.
He takes offense to that, acting like he doesn’t need to be accepted, though Hana points out that he wouldn’t have asked to meet her friends otherwise. “It’s because I want to know all about what you do and the people you know,” he defends before adding, “I’m putting this effort in for you.” Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
“Then try to wait for me,” Hana says. “I’ve changed since the last time we were together. I hope you would have changed too.”
Seo-hoo drops her off at home, which gives Mom her first glimpse of him since everything happened. She reacts as expected and drags Hana inside to face her father, who asks if his daughter’s gone out of her mind.
Hana knows she’s in trouble, but tells her mother that she’s decided to trust Seo-hoo again. Despite her mother telling her exactly why that’s a terrible idea, Hana says that Seo-hoo is really trying this time, and so is she. Mom doesn’t know what to do, and who can blame her?
Seo-hoo stops to talk to Won outside his house, and bluntly says that they need to become friends before adding sarcastically, “You understand what being a friend means, don’t you? Friends, just like what you and Hana are.”
Won picks up on his tone and doesn’t like it, but Seo-hoo continues that he’d like to experience the kind of close friendship that Won and Hana so clearly share. “You only ever think about yourself,” Won grits out.
Seo-hoo can’t deny that, so instead he just warns Won that he doesn’t want to be the third wheel in his and Hana’s relationship. Won has to reassure him that he has no interest in their relationship.
Dad calls Won out for drinks, and to ask him if he knew about Hana seeing Seo-hoo again. Won nods. “Then you should have told me, or tried to stop her,” her father sighs exasperatingly.
He likens this feeling of disappointment with Hana to when it happened once before, which was the day she gathered all her friends for her engagement ceremony without the consent or blessing of her parents. It turned their lives upside down, only for her to return from said ceremony and lock herself in her room for days without eating.
Now thinking about that, there’s no way Dad can allow himself to consent to her current relationship. Won attempts to defend Hana by saying that it must have been a difficult decision for her too, to which Dad aptly asks why she made it at all then.
He turns his ire onto Won for not stopping her sooner. “You and Hana have been stuck together for years. What were you doing that you couldn’t even win Hana’s heart?” Won seems to be trying to convince himself as much as Dad when he says that she’ll be alright, but Dad doesn’t want to hear it. He doesn’t want Won coming around the house anymore, either.
Hana finds her dad drinking alone in the living room, and he sits her down for a talk. He says he still remembers the little girl who loved her daddy so much she wanted to marry him like it was yesterday.
“For me, even if the man you choose is the best man in the world, it would still be a loss to give you to him. No matter how rich or powerful he is, if he makes my daughter shed even one tear, I would be against him. Because my daughter is the best in all the world,” Dad says emotionally.
It’s enough to bring tears to Hana’s eyes as she says she’s sorry, that she did wrong, and that she’ll do better. I’ll believe it when I see it.
Seo-hoo pops up to bother Hana at work again, and her telling him she actually has work to do doesn’t stop him from sitting across from her and staring at her while she does it. She also has to make a concerted effort to keep his hands off her in a public setting.
He wants to take her for a drive that night, but she declines by saying she has work and she can’t be home late. He figures out that things are weird at home because of him, but instead of giving her space, he just promises not to get her home too late.
Hana almost gets frustrated enough to tell him something, but, psych!
Instead, she waits to tell him what time it is when he uploads a picture of them on social media. She chastises him for not calling her before showing up at her office and even now for not asking her before uploading the photo.
“I tried to understand you no matter what you did before. Because I loved you, I just let it all go and thought it was okay. But I feel differently now. I wish you could be more considerate of me,” she says. Seo-hoo seems legitimately dumbfounded and unable to cope with the idea that Hana just talked back to him.
Won hangs out with newly married buddy Chang-soo, who brings up the ridiculous fact that Won and Hana had two different graduation photos. Cue flashback of Hana telling Won she wanted them to take their college graduation photos together, even though they’d end up graduating at different times with Won going to the military.
Even so, Won made it to her graduation in his army fatigues just so he could take a picture with her. Likewise, Hana had to make a special trip when he graduated so she could be in his picture.
Hana calls Na-young after her tiff with Seo-hoo, and Na-young’s no help to her since she only speaks sense. Though Hana claims that she won’t allow herself to be hurt this time, Na-young asks her to seriously examine whether she believes people can change.
Still, Hana wants to have her cake and eat it too, so she asks for Na-young’s support even though Na-young says she’s the one who chased her own luck away.
As if things couldn’t get any worse, Hana sees the picture Seo-hoo posted on social media and pulls a 180 on how she feels about it. She texts Seo-hoo: “What a pretty picture. Should we go out tomorrow?” Are you f*cking kidding me?
Because of her work on the collaboration with Seo-hoo, the Chinese company Hana had originally courted for her project contacts her company wanting to work with her. That means the project that Team Leader Hwang and the design team stole from her gets returned to her, effectively putting her back in charge.
While all this is going on, Mom slips and hurts her back at home, and Dae-bok calls Won over to help out.
Seo-hoo’s been unable to get ahold of Hana for ten whole minutes, so when she finally does pick up the phone, he’s not happy. But at least he perks up when she tells him that she got the Jumei project back. She has to call him back and tell him she can’t see him that evening when Dae-bok calls to tell her about Mom.
Won and Dae-bok work together to sell cleaning products help clean the house since Mom can’t, and it seems like all’s forgiven with Dad since he’s soon sharing meals again with her family.
While Hana walks Won out and laughs when he gives her a whistle to use whenever she’s in trouble, her family ends up facing Seo-hoo, who’s come on his own to kneel before them.
Flash back to Won’s graduation photo day, where Hana jokingly admits she had to give up her overseas training opportunity in Paris in order to attend. Her next opportunity wouldn’t come for three years, which is where she met Seo-hoo.
In voiceover, Hana says, “The choices we made in order to stay together then have become the reasons we can’t be together now. How could we have known better then?”
COMMENTS
I’m sure that Seo-hoo appearing before her parents isn’t out of a need to be accepted by them as much as it’s driven by his need to control Hana’s life—and so far, the only place where he hasn’t had permission to do that has been her house. Judging by the fact that he can’t stand the idea of her being away from him for longer than ten or fifteen minutes at a time, this move seems in keeping with his character. I just hope that Hana’s parents don’t buy any of his schtick.
Otherwise, this was an episode where forward plot and character development went to die. I’m honestly a bit mystified as to how we just saw an hour of moving shapes and colors on a screen that did nothing to progress any agenda but that of the show’s sponsors. And if you think about each scene independently and even as a whole, there are maybe about three which could have existed without the sole focus being on what was for sale.
I’m not against PPL as a necessary evil to fund any given show, but watching a plot that has all but ceased to be about its characters and exists instead only by virtue of being propped up and written around whatever product is being pushed in that moment is kind of like watching everything wrong with dramas in one concentrated dose. This has been an issue with The Time I’ve Sold Myself in the past, but it took over so completely this hour that it was just absurd enough to be frustrating without being unintentionally funny enough to turn itself into a parody.
Out of those few scenes which could actually stand on their own, two of them centered around Hana’s father—first when he talked to Won about what he did or didn’t know, and second when he tried reminding his daughter that self-worth exists. The only interesting revelation this hour was that Hana never even had her parents’ blessing for the first time around with Seo-hoo, because it makes you wonder if she was willing to abandon everything she knew and loved for him even then.
Hana has officially passed beyond my realm of understanding, and I’m genuinely confused about the signals she sends through her body language versus the few words that come out of her mouth. She never looks happy to be with Seo-hoo, whom she now openly claims to love. There were multiple moments where Seo-hoo’s tyranny wasn’t lost on her, but she used only one of them to actually tell him how his actions have been inconsiderate—which is a really nice way of putting it—and to reiterate how she’s supposedly changed from the person she was when they first dated.
And that moment might’ve legitimately been able to hold water and act as just the tiniest glimmer of progress if she hadn’t sent him that text about the picture and effectively negated everything about the stand she took against him. It’s like taking no steps forward and ten steps back into the black hole otherwise known as Cha Seo-hoo.

This drama is going nowhere. There is an article on Naver talked about what actually the problem of this drama. Whether it's the writing, the actings or the target ages. The article compared it with the same genre of drama that became big winner last till the beginning of this year despite the low ratings, Discovery of Romance. Discovery of Romance's story was nothing new. And I was totally mad with the female character. However, the way that script writer tried to tell her story was amusing. There were so many popular lines quoted here and there from this drama. Even it has been a bit dragged, the writer seem know how to make audiences not going anywhere by fun stories of the supporting roles (of course, since they have Kim Seul Gi and Yoon Hyun Min in there). As much as I getting my nerve with the lead female, but I must say Jung Yu Mi did her job really good. Maybe because her tiny figures, I still enjoying seeing her acting cute and all. Even though I was rooting the fiancé', due to the development character of her old boy friend or maybe superb actings by Eric Mun, I enjoying the love story between lead female and his ex boy friend more. Perhaps, Discovery of Romance was the only low rated drama that got so much win whether in Korea or international competitions.
I was expecting The Time We Were Not In Love would be as awesome as DoR. Since they have Ha Ji Won. Ha Ji Won who never failed in her previous dramas and ratings queen. In fact, this drama also very popular in its original version. But forgive me, I never expected the adults act like so childish in this drama which reminds me how teens would act. No 'qualified-conversations' but only useless bickering with trying too hard-cute moments continuously.
Somehow, I understand why they wanna gave this drama to Full House writer before. Full House story only focus on the main leads. But I never getting bored watching them because it was totally silly and not trying hard to be cute but they were really cute together. I don't know now which one is the main problem whether the script writer or the actors (even though I love Ha Ji Won to death, not impressed by Lee Jin Wook till now).

Having been in a will-they-won't-they friendship myself, I can say that the story and its starts and non-starts aren't THAT far off from real life. Combine growing feelings, a dose of pride, bad timing and you could get Won + Hana (not for 17 years though!).
The bigger problem is that Seo Hoo is miswritten. He's too bad to be a bad boy. Bad boys get away with it because they trick you into thinking they're good. The sugar mixes with the spice in just the right amount, and bam you're attracted to something incredibly toxic. But Seo Hoo is jarring all the time, staying away a full 3 years because he saw Won and Hana hug, plus hyung plays him so smugly and severely - probably in part because Seo Hoo is a tortured pianist. Chaebol or investment banker might have fit him better, at least they need to have charisma some of the time. I can't blame hyung or Ha Ji Won for not pulling this off to perfection, many of my friends know just how difficult it is to explain to someone the power an insane attraction can have on you. (I'll disagree with Heads on this one, Ha Na's reactions are on point for someone who's been there - you can hate a guy's guts and actions and still feel crazy attracted and smile a little in spite of it).
Of course, Ha Na's age and the fact that she should know better adds loads to the problem. It sucks because they clearly pulled something off with the younger guy in episodes 1-3. But Seo Hoo is a struggle. Dramaland wanted its cake (conflict) and eat it too (have Won clearly come out as the better candidate) - it just doesn't work that way for the audience.

I was keeping this on the backburner, as as was already watching "OH My Ghostness" and "I remember you", which I really love both. But reading these re-caps I don't think I'm even going to start watching this.
I liked the original, but was a bit dissatisfied with the ending. It felt like an episode was skipped and they were suddenly together.

What a disaster. They literally just had to take the exact same script as the original TW version and translate that to Koran to end up with a winner of a show. Instead...this. I don't think it's an exaggeration to mourn the death of one of my most favorite female leads in all the dramas I've watched. It's already so hard to find greatly written female leads who are smart, dependable, admirable and vulnerable in all the right ways...and to have that written already and then take it to ruins - utter madness. I get so angry even seeing screenshots of this disaster of an adaptation! UGGGHHHHHH

Same as you. I was expecting Ha Ji Won played the independent, strong headed, selfish and a bit bitchy character (according to the original character in T-version). I was so much excited to see her playing that kinda role. I'm still hoping that kinda development but…again disappointed by this episode. And they ruined it by acting cute (which not seem naturally cute) and 'weak' girl. Siggghhhh…..

I'm TOTALLY devastated. I'm normally very selective over my drama choices. Read the previews and and a few recaps first before deciding to watch - with the exceptions of a few dramas. This was one exception cos I like HJW and LJW and I like the story-line of friends falling in love.
Loved, loved, loved the first 4 eps, re-watched them twice, which I rarely do. THEN came ep 5 & 6, which were ok, 7 & 8, barely watchable... and I have to say that I just cannot bring myself to watch ep 9 and 10. It's a good thing that I didn't have time to watch them before the recaps or I would have smashed the computer. Now I know why my elder daughter kept saying, "Stupid girl, stupid girl" for two hours in her room the other day. I wondered who she was scolding till she told me. Also warned me not to watch the last 2 eps...and I haven't. Just reading the recaps is enough to make my blood boil, save for Heads' humour.
Why oh why? Writer - you don't have to really think hard you know? There's already a TW version. At the very least, recreate that one. So easy...

The ONLY way I will forgive Oh Ha Na for being with Seo Hoo (she's clearly miserable and her actions are contrary.) is if she is purposely sticking with Seo Hoo because her career depends on it.
If Hana dumps Seo Hoo once their project is over then I will be happy and see it as character growth.

You're not alone, dear. Reading your writing about this drama is way more enjoyable and livelier than watching it. I've fell asleep since many ep prior to 9, and that makes me angry. How come LJW can't keep me awake?! Duh.

Someone said in last recap that one of the factors (in the TW version) for HN to accept SH back is their sexual chemistry, which does happen in RL. I've seen people forgive/overlook the other person's offense when they have a strong sexual chemistry many times. So I know it is possible.
While I understand this, and assuming that that's the reason HN couldn't help herself, it's just plain annoying that the writers are making Hana try to convince herself and everyone around her that SH has changed and whatnot and that's why she took him back. Because it seems to me that even if he hadn't been wayyy too late for his engagement and cut off contact since, he STILL was (even back then) an annoying jerk.
it'd be another story if HN actually realized WHY she still wants him and see that those feelings weren't gonna lead anywhere right; and then do something about it, i.e. seek professional help /do some self-examination to overcome those feelings, 'cause it's clear to everyone but Hana that being in a romantic relationship with a controlling, self-absorbed, egocentric douchebag will only end up in heartbreak (again)

@ Evy "Someone said in last recap that one of the factors (in the TW version) for HN to accept SH back is their sexual chemistry"
Okay, this makes sense somewhat.
There seems to be some sexual awareness between HaNa and Won. but....Won has never been aggressive or tested that boundary.
Seo Hoo crosses that line ALL THE TIME. He's seems to be crossing over into the uncomfortable category for HaNa now though.
HaNa has made a conscious decision to keep Seo Hoo separate from her friends and family. (Both times)
Hana's perspective is changing.
The Seo Hoo she used to see as romantic is quickly becoming a stifling nuisance. Obsessive, controlling and selfish behavior is starting to be noticed. HaNa even stood up for herself and told Seo Hoo she wishes he was more considerate of her feelings.

<Seo Hoo crosses that line ALL THE TIME. He’s seems to be crossing over into the uncomfortable category for HaNa now though.
It doesn't really work though the way it plays out in the TW drama. In the TW version is clear they are having a sexual relationship, pretty much right away from when they get back together (if I remember correctly – but I think I do because one of the weirdest things of the original version SPOILER AHEAD was when the TW-Hana finally got together with the TW-Won and went to super-awkward when it got to sex, much in contrast to how it was with the TW-Seohoo.). Here, you more get the impression that Seohoo wants to be physical but Hana is still living out some virginal life, with only kisses happening. I'm not even clear if the first time they had a relationship they were physically intimate...

Sometimes the storyline is the same from TW JP or KO versions, and sometimes the story changes a lot.
I've heard the TW version had really great chemistry between the lead actors...it makes a huge difference.
I don't feel any sizzle so far in the kdrama version. I also got the impression in the K-version that Hana was a virgin and that is one of the reasons why Seohoo is so jealous of Won/Hana friendship. He seems determined to make Hana aware of him as a man.
I don't even see this show as a romance anymore. I feel like I'm watching a competition between 2 alpha males over who gets to claim "MINE" over Hana.

This week's show really pissed me off. Initially, I thought the change in writers didn't dent the show very much, but it's so glaring right now. How did everyone become so pathetic? From early episodes, we know the actors have been trying their best, and there's chemistry between them, but now everything is just falling apart. Ugh. Show had so much potential.
And the one-month forwarding is ridiculous. It doesn't really achieve anything. I think a 3 or 6-month jump is more appropriate, for Hana to start fully missing Won and all. And dude, what's with the whole non-confession?!! Even I, as a viewer who knows your feelings, can't figure out what the whole speech was about.
I don't understand dad's rationale for telling Won not to come round anymore – I mean, there's only so much he can do with stopping Hana's masochistic behaviour with Won.
Ugh hyung, why are you such a scumbag here? So oblivious to her feelings and concerns, so self-absorbed, acting like everyone's lives evolve around you... Nobody owes you a living! Or friendship! What have you EVER done, even now, to act like you're any way deserving of a chance?
I'm surprised that he's never met any of her friends before – seems like their relationship was super duper hushed up before the engagement. Given that Hana is generally quite close to her family, I really wonder why she rushed into this without talking to them. What's the full back story?

My guess is the writer change is a ruse. This thing is clearly being written by an ad agency.

Oh I beg to differ, if an ad agency wrote this they would know they aren't captivating their audience, being frustrating ? and annoying doesn't get sales,no one wants to buy what this drama is selling just ask Don draper.

Maybe before Seo Hoo was the one uninterested in meeting her friends and family? I remember in the flashbacks he cancelled getting drinks with her, Won and their friends because he gave an excuse and went flirting with other women in that same bar. It's possible that this was not a one time thing and he frequently chose to flake out and not show up to meetings and gatherings.
He probably saw himself as the gifted and talented musician, plus she used to dote and swoon over him and didn't really expect much in turn so he took her for granted. Him not making his presence known at the engagement fits with this because he didn't feel like he owed any of them an explanation or apology because he did not know them. Ha Na seems to have been the one driving the relationship in the beginning and he took a more lazy approach.
BTW I love that we're the ones essentially writing this drama and filling in the gaps that writers forgot. #somebodypaymeforthis #thetimeiwroteforfree

<Maybe before Seo Hoo was the one uninterested in meeting her friends and family?
It's so bizarre though.... and a huge red flag if that happens in real life. If your significant other doesn't want to meet your friends and family at all... Of course, there is some cultural variation on this – I do have friends who didn't introduce their partner to their families before they knew the relationship was serious (i.e. on track to marriage) b/c of cultural reasons BUT the introduction wasn't at the engagement party, but before. And, in all cases, many friends did know before it got "serious".

and also, besides the fact that Won is not telling Hana the truth for the life of him, can I just say how aggraviated I feel by Won not explictly telling Jerk-Ho to piss off?!!! it's bad enough that SH's every word annoys me to no end, but Won not putting him in his place everytime he talks 2 him, I just caaann't!!!!!

I'm sorry, but Hana's mom and dad are a major parenting fail.
A couple of episodes ago her mom didn't question Hana when she said she couldn't get together with Won because of something he said to her... in high school. This episode her mom says nothing when Hana justifies dating her horrible ex because they're both trying really hard this time. Ummm, Mom, how about saying "it shouldn't BE hard."
Now her dad FINALLY gets involved...
His first impulse is to spew blame on Won for failing to win Hana's heart. And say that because Won didn't prevent Hana from making horrible dating decisions, Won's no longer welcome in their home. *until the next scene, when he is* But to Hana, Dad goes weak at the knees and puffs her up about how precious and perfect she is. Then passively resigns himself to having a hard time while he watches her ruin her life with a knucklehead. That's just twisted.

I think I'm probably going to be only one but I STILL get the writing and I still really like the show. And I think I'm speaking somewhat objectively, not just as a HJW fan (have searched deep in my soul). Maybe it's because I'm not a native Korean speaker? To me the biggest problem with the show is the casting of YKS as Cha Seo Hoo. I've said before that I think he is really ugly but now let me add that his acting in this role is horrible.
For some reason though, maybe because of HJW and LJW and my overreactive imagination and the fact that I don't speak Korean, I can look past YKS' horrible acting and extrapolate what the writers are trying to do with his character so it still makes sense to me.
I know Hana is 34 and she should have woken up her idea by now, but... there are people around me who aren't that far off from 34 who still make bad decisions, so I can accept her actions. Like I said before I think people are willing to give in to the temptation of the promise of a crazy passionate love you can lose yourself in. And I'll add here that it may seem like terribly juvenile behaviour (I last went through something like that in my late teens) but we all go through things at different stages of life.
Ok I'm probably going to get shot down already BUT one last thing. I think Won confessed to Hana. I've been following the soompi forum on the show, and someone gave a really lovely interpretation of what he said. Essentially it was that because he has come to love her as a woman, their friendship as they know it has to end if she sees someone else, and he's also giving her time to choose him, if she realises she loves him as a man. And then because he promised he would always be there for her he says he will try to be her friend again if she doesn't choose him as a lover.
And even without reading the forum and just going by what the subs say he said to her, I got that it was a confession.
I can overlook the plot loopholes somewhat because most Korean dramas I've watched have them.. and these are by no means the worst I've encountered.
Then again, this is only my second k drama of the year and the second I've followed in a really long time. So perhaps my judgment is off. Forgive me. I'm sorry if you don't enjoy the show! Thanks for the recaps. Also as much as I like the show I also appreciate the hilariously snarky comments from everyone.

Don't know which annoys me the most: returnee boyfriend Cha Seo Hoo's smirk, Ha Na's neediness or Won's lack of cojones.
And just how did the drama manage to make 3 beautiful people so boring? It's hard to care about any of the love lines now. Oh well, maybe one: the potential hookup between Teacher Park and Mi-hyang.
I'm enjoying their little bursts of chemistry and conflict. They possess more spark in their pinkie finger than the whole love triangle Won-Hana-SeoHoo put together.

Oh please really? The show never had much of plot. Certainly not a believable plot. Sorry but I just don't see the same thing everyone else sees. Hana likes Seo hoo because he's gorgeous! Not to mention because he looks at her like he could swallow her whole. Ladies please don't tell me it's irksome to be desired. Won is a straight up wimp. He better have a really good excuse for putting both their lives on hold all this time. I'm sorry but I just don't see Seo hoo as all that evil and manipulative. He's a well known concert pianist. Certainly didn't have to travel all the way back after 3 years for a do over. He's probable dripping with women. Yoon Gyun sang should be dripping with women he's precious. Not that there's anything wrong with Jin wook either. We should all be so burdened.

This... could not possibly be worse than Doctor Stranger, but I am starting to get that feeling I have wasted hours of my time. Yet AGAIN, like with Doctor Stranger, I come back the next week in hopes the trainwreck is no longer a trainwreck. I may be as stuck in a vicious cycle of bad decisions as Ha Na!

Haha. The same thought did occur to me.... is this going the path of DS? But since i didn't watch that drama, only read parts of the recap, I can't really say.
But, I have to say now that it's worse than W&C. Even up to ep 8, it was better. But these last 2 eps.... Jiwon in W&C was irritating and manipulative, but at least she had limited sceen (scream) time. But Seo Hoo has lots of it, with Hana, and i just wanna puke.

Co-sign! It is definitely worse than Warm & Cozy. At least those characters stayed fairly consistent and likable (except for Jiwon). I almost made it to the end of that one. I couldn't get further than ep. 6 with this one.

I have this curse of watching every episode even though it is excruciatingly bad show. But nothing can save this show. I definitely will stop watching this and will be back for last 30 minutes of ep 16.

My conclusion is that the writer probably doesn't make sense her/himself in real life, that's the only explanation I can come up with for this nonsensical story. Every scene leaves us with so many question marks as to why the character is acting the way he/she is.
I'm purely watching because I am also 34 years old. Why portray 34-year olds like this? This gives us 30+ year olds a bad rep, methinks. Maybe the 34-year olds of the world should sue the writers for portraying us poorly. Keke.
I'm still waiting impatiently for the great explanation why Won could not date Hana. Better be a life-threatening event. The apocalypse. Lee Joon Young will target their entire family....??!
I agree with some above that YKS is definitely part of the problem, I'm not sure if it's his murderer character carrying over to this show, but his current asshole character really isn't helping.
I just wish there was a strong character in this show to root for. Someone with proper EQ and who makes decisions that we can identify with.

I think they can't date because it affects National security or Won is Hana's half brother these are the only explanations I'm accepting at this point

I can understand for a tiny bitsy bit why Hana would go back to her toxic ex(like so many people do), but in this show it's been going for far too LONG. If they don't end this disastrous relationship in the next ep, I'm going to lose it. SIGH.

How great is my love for Ha Ji Won. Pretty darn great since I continue to watch this piece of drek. It makes me laugh because what was the last terribly written drama I kept suffering through for the lead, oh, yeah, that was Hyde, Jekyll and Me because of Hyun Bin!
At least in this drama though there is a good supporting cast, great chemistry between the OTP and some adorable secondary characters (ie Ha Na's family), plus decent directing. Binnie was really out on that Jekyll and Me limb totally alone.

Some Viki commenters seem to have perpetual Second Lead Syndrome. If the second lead is nice, they bemoan his fate as the option who isn't chosen... but if he's a jerk, they say the writers are trying too hard to make him unsympathetic and he's really misunderstood. I don't get it, myself.
I don't think there's any way the writers can salvage the drama now. What a waste of the good leads, supporting cast, and PD. SBS needs to learn that their interference leads to dramas decreasing in quality and ratings, not improvement.

I have found that Viki and DF commentators seem to come from a totally different demographic than the usual posters here. A typical DF review is "best drama ever", no matter how bad it actually is.
