Suzy bows out of Cheese in the Trap
by javabeans
Can’t say I’m surprised that Suzy won’t be headlining the drama adaptation of Cheese in the Trap after all—not after the swift and loud netizen outcry to the initial announcement that she was considering. It’s funny how most of it was along the lines of We like Suzy, really we do, but please not this drama! Which I get, because that was basically my reaction too.
Park Hae-jin (Bad Guys) is still the only actor attached, but the drama does have a writer now, to work alongside director Lee Yoon-jung (Heart to Heart, Coffee Prince): Kim Nam-hee has signed on, which is a difficult choice to examine since I don’t believe she’s written much other than 2006’s melo Heaven’s Tree and 2008’s Little Mom Scandal 1. Let’s hope there’s a solid reason she was picked after all these years of hiatus.
For now, the search for the heroine continues, which is an unenviable task since the hardcore Cheese fanbase is so invested in the casting. Understandably so, given the popularity of the webtoon, although it makes the decision-making process trickier than most dramas.
At least they still have plenty of time to find the right person; Cheese in the Trap is set to air on tvN as a Monday-Tuesday drama in October.

I really hope they choose wisely for this one. Maybe not even go with an kpop idol (please, please, please don't).
I mean, there's a lot of great tv/movie girls out there that would be great for this role. On the top of my mind : Shin Min Ah, Go Ara, Yoo In Na, Jeong Ryeo Won, Lee Seong Gyeong.
I see Im Su Hyang as Juyeon, she would fit her perfectly.

OK comments are getting out of hand, try listening to people tell u, I love u but u are good for nothing. How would you feel? Overjoyed? Not a chance. Poor Suzy, I love you and I hope you get a better role in future but I don't think this role is for you because it's over hyped and likely to flop like almost all over hyped drama.

I'm glad Suzy bowed out of this project. I'm sure she is a lovely person, but she really does not have the acting ability to star next to Park Hae-jin, which may I also add, they don't quite match. It is great that Suzy knows her own limitations, and I hope she takes some acting classes to improve her craft if she plans to continue acting. She did improve a bit from her dream high days, but it is not enough to end people's scrutiny toward her acting if she doesn't take the initiative to improve on it.

Verrrrry surprised at the hate for Go Ara. I watched WHO ARE YOU? recently (also starring Yoon Kye-sang) and thought she was fantastic.

Go Ara was actually a decent actress before Reply 1994. However, her most well-known drama ( the one with TVXQ Yunho) happened to be one of the worst drama in kdramaland, so people think she was a bad actress.

Who cares anymore? That drama is not even popular and it came out many years ago. Irrelevant

I think Han Groo or Moon Char Won would be absolutely perfect for this role. Since Hong Sum is the heart of the manhwa, the drama would require someone who has the acting chops to carry an entire drama. If Sul isn't played well she can easily come off as a candy.

Honestly I really like Suzy but I'm so glad she didn't do this drama. In the webtoon, Seol is a seemingly simple but actually very complex character. I think Suzy has a lot of potential to become a really good actress, but she's pretty young and I kind of want to see her work her way up to a role like Seol. I hope she gets increasingly more complex roles to build her acting skills.

The most important thing is the writing. Judging by all this mediaplay, I already have a bad feeling about this drama and I hope I'm proven wrong.
