Siwon considers MBC rom-com She Was Pretty

The main love square for MBC’s new romantic comedy She Was Pretty is almost complete: Choi Siwon (King of Dramas) is being courted to join the cast, which currently includes Kill Me, Heal Me twins Hwang Jung-eum and Park Seo-joon, and Go Jun-hee (Yawang). I’m a little surprised that Siwon is taking on a supporting role, but I like him more for it — he was at his best as the hilarious second lead in King of Dramas, and I’m all for him doing more rom-coms.

She Was Pretty stars Hwang Jung-eum as the heroine who was once beautiful and wealthy; but one day her family loses their fortune, she has to take on part-time jobs to support herself, and her grades plummet too. As if that isn’t bad enough, the ugly gene that she inherited from her grandfather presents itself during her teenage years, and she loses her beauty too. I… don’t know.

Naturally, Park Seo-joon is her opposite: He was a short, chubby kid who couldn’t even look girls in the eye, let alone talk to them. But as an adult, he has a growth spurt, sheds a bunch of weight, and ends up looking like a model. Go Jun-hee plays Hwang Jung-eum’s best friend, a hotelier who’s popular with men and has a lot of dating experience, but has never really been in love.

Siwon has been offered the part of a features editor at a magazine, which is likely where the bulk of the drama will be based (Park Seo-joon plays a copy editor, while Hwang Jung-eum’s father once owned a publishing house). His character is bold and smooth on the outside, but he’s deeper on the inside than he seems. He does have an air of mystery though, because he never lets anyone know what he’s really thinking. He’ll develop a friendship with Hwang Jung-eum and eventually fall for her.

She Was Pretty comes from writer Jo Sung-hee (second writer on High School King of Savvy) and PD Jung Dae-yoon (second PD on Sly and Single Again, The King 2 Hearts) and follows Scholar Who Walks the Night on Wednesdays and Thursdays in September.

I'm still not fond of this pretty vs ugly theme but I sure want to see Siwon in yet another comedy, it's the genre that suits him best

I loved him in King of Dramas. He is not a great actor, but when he does comedy he is just adorable. But how the heck are they going to make us believe Hwang Jung Eum is ugly? Is she going to don a fat suit again? Don't just give her bad hair and frumpy clothes and try to make me believe she's ugly. I need more than that, people. HJE has bad hair in basically every drama she does!

Isn't Siwon enlisting soon? I'm pretty sure he is. So far, the character description is just meh for me. You need to put Siwon in a hilarious over the top role. I don't want to see him all brooding for love then doesn't get the girl.

Its can be even worse in Hollywood movies. She's All That still irks me to this day with the "ugly girl" transforming just by taking off her glasses and overalls.

"I’m a little surprised that Siwon is taking on a supporting role"

I'm not. His dramas have always failed in ratings. They want to use his popularity to appeal to overseas fans, but don't want to use him as the lead in order to save their ratings in South Korea. So supporting role is the answer.

I think it's interesting that first Hwang Jung-eum re-teamed with Jisung for Kill Me Heal Me. I think that having had them just come off a drama together may have helped them with the show a lot because they felt like they had chemistry as well as friendship, which worked really well. Now she's re-teaming with the ever adorable Park Seo-joon who also had a lot of chemistry with her on that show but this time it will be appropriate for the characters since they won't be siblings. So I'm really curious to see how this plays out. Siwon seems ... actually nice from what I've read. His good looks are almost at the point of being a hindrance to him being taken seriously so comedy seems to suit him well.

Definitely love hwang jung eum, my favorite actress ever. Love Park Seo Joon also (and now he can have the girl. Lol. Really curious how they'll develop the romantic story between them and in HJE I believe the chemistry will stunning. I'm in love with siwon since My lady (Co star Chae Rim), although I must admit that I hope it Siwon whose taking the lead role hahahhahaha but it sure this show is a must watch for me. But with talented and good looking (call me shallow and I don't care, LOL) casts like this surely will make me glued to the screen. September please come faster ^^

Siwon is not only a good actor, but an excellent one. It is harder for an actor to make the audience laugh, than for them to produce tears. Siwon makes it all natural, darnet, and I credit him for that. (PS KING OF DRAMAAAAAAAAS)

Siwon's acting skills have improved. So, here's hoping for a good(ish) drama. The drama land so far this year has been dry for me (My love Eun Dong, Mask and Oh my ghostess are the only ones I thought were worth watching), so I hope fall will bring in something good.
