Kang Ho-dong and Na PD get the 1N2D crew back together for tvN

Eeeeeee! Are we getting the band back together? Cable’s on a roll in varietyland these days: Right on the heels of the news that Yoo Jae-suk will be making the move to cable for a new variety show on JTBC, tvN has announced that they’re rolling out the reunion of reunions, between MC Kang Ho-dong and PD Na Young-seok, of the golden years of 1 Night 2 Days. Oh, but it gets better: Fellow 1N2D cast members Lee Seung-gi, Eun Ji-won, and Lee Su-geun are considering offers to join them for one big reunionfest. Cue happy dance.

Kang Ho-dong and Na PD worked together back at the very start of KBS’s outdoor travel variety show 1 Night 2 Days, and took it from meager beginnings in 2007 to a nationally beloved program that topped 40% ratings in its heyday. I still miss the magic of the old cast and crew, which is a big part of why I continue to follow Na PD’s shows. A tax evasion scandal took Kang Ho-dong out of showbiz for a while in 2011, shortly after which Na PD wrapped the first season of 1N2D and left KBS for cable network tvN.

Na PD went on to create a string of hits for tvN (Grandpas Over Flowers and all of its spinoffs to Three Meals a Day), and was the first variety producer to win the grand prize at the Baeksang Arts Awards earlier this year. Kang Ho-dong returned to the limelight in 2013, but faced an uphill battle in trying to return to his national MC status.

His fledgling shows Moonlight Prince, Gazing at the Stars, and Transparent Person all failed to take off and were quickly canceled. His lone success since his comeback has been Our Neighborhood Variety Sports for KBS, which I find fun whenever they’re covering a sport I enjoy.

Lee Seung-gi, Eun Ji-won, Lee Su-geun

Lee Su-geun has recently made his comeback to television on tvN’s SNL Korea, after a gambling scandal took him off the air as well. Eun Ji-won has had small roles on variety shows, and Lee Seung-gi has mostly focused on dramas, save for a season of Noonas Over Flowers with Na PD.

The new show is still in the works, but it’s being planned as an outdoor variety program (which, duh), likely with overseas travel. So it sounds similar to Na PD’s Over Flowers series, except that this time the central concept is basically one big 1N2D reunion, for cast and crew alike.

Na PD said, “I’ve met often with Kang Ho-dong and Lee Seung-gi and we’ve always said that we didn’t know when it would be, but we should do variety together again. We kept saying it, and naturally came to plan a new variety show.” Yes, please, and thank you. As long as Na PD is there, I’m pretty sure you could just put these guys in one room and turn the cameras on and get a show, but travel’s okay too.

Answer Me, 1N2D (or whatever it’s called) plans to start shooting in August.

I'm elated, yet worried at the same time. And expectant. I want them together back for the longest time, but not without all 6 of them plus Kim C and MC Mong.

We'll see how it goes...hoping for the best if this goes through!

kanghodong, leeseunggi, eunjiwon, kimC, MCmong(please...) n leeseugun are my favorite cast of 1n2d season 1.... I do really miss them and anticipating their comeback with a new variety with the same fun they did.

DEAR tvN: PLEASE SUBTITLE THIS AND PUT IT ON YOUTUBE! I only get KBS, none of the other Korean networks.

Does anyone know what cable company or service I'd need to get in order to see the other Korean networks??

Normally TVN shows get subbed internationally through Channel M (Like 3 Meals a Day, Over Flowers shows, Reply series and all other varieties they've got).

What I'm concerned about that now though is that it's gonna be an internet broadcast.. so I'm not so sure anymore if Channel M will still work on it. *fingers crossed though*

though, after watching this episode when Kim Jong min was picked by jiwon and the rest weren't it was touching, as KJM was and still is my favorite out of them.
Though either way this sounds so COOL!!!

I’m so happy to see 4 of them together again they have the best chemistry ever in Korean variety show. Love them in 2D1N and now WOW!!! To see them again with PD Na in New Journey To The West is pure happiness and pleasure for me!!!
