Ji Chang-wook and Shim Eun-kyung confirmed for action thriller Invented City
by girlfriday
The cast is confirmed and cameras are rolling for the new crime action thriller movie Invented City, which stars Ji Chang-wook (Healer) as an everyman who suddenly finds himself on the run from the law when he gets framed for a murder, and Shim Eun-kyung (Cantabile Tomorrow) as the person who helps him clear his name. Pssh, what’s a tiny little murder rap to the Healer?
The new film from director Park Kwang-hyun of Welcome to Dongmakgol is about an unemployed loser who’s the heroic leader of a team in his virtual gaming world, but a washout in real life. One day he’s accused of murder in an elaborate frame job and his whole life changes overnight, and he sets out to find the truth and fight against the people who set him up.
Shim Eun-kyung plays a genius hacker who helps Ji Chang-wook get to the truth. Hm, a guy fighting a murder charge with a genius hacker fairy on his side? Throw in ninja skills and he’s basically the Healer! Not that I’m complaining about this, mind you, especially from these two actors.
Oh Jung-se (The Lover) co-stars as a secretive public defender, Kim Sang-ho (Doctor Stranger) plays a ruthless man who chases Ji Chang-wook to the bitter end, and Ji Chang-wook’s fellow gamer team members include Kim Ki-chun (Revivre), Ahn Jae-hong (C’est Si Bon), and Kim Min-gyo (SNL Korea).
Invented City is shooting now and plans to hit theaters next year.

Noooooo! I mean, yeesss for finally confirming a new project 👏👏 , but nooooo, whyyy does it have to be a movie?? And it's not going to hit theaters till next year? Are you kidding me, Wookie? It's still July! Next year is still six months away (IF.. it's released on January) and 6 more months before it's subbed and released internationally, and he'll probably be in military by then 😭 Ok, I might be a leeettle exaggerating, and I admit a lead role in a movie is a giant step forward for him as an actor, buutt, for me, as a greedy fan 😝 , the wait is too long!!
*takes deep breath*
Ok then, now, on a positive note, I've seen actors promoting their movies before the movie itself wraps up its shooting, so...
And in the mean time, I'm never (and don't think I'll ever be) tired of re-watching Healer, so...
I guess I'll have to wait patiently! *while crossing my fingers that the movie will be worth the wait!* :-D

Ewwww! Shim Eun Kyung, surely I am not the only one who finds her acting nauseatingly irritating. One of the reasons I stopped watching Nodame Cantabile was because I couldn't stand her!

Shim Eun Kyung doesn't do well in Nodame Cantabile, but in fact she is a talented actress. I think she's good in movies, but not in drama. If you watch 'Miss Granny', I'm sure you will be surprised at her acting skills. It's hard to portray a woman in her early 20s with a soul of a 70 years old grandma, but SEK was so excellent in her role.

I haven't seen her in anything else, but in fairness to her, she was probably a prisoner of the Japanese version of her character. The tone of the Korean version of the drama was a little more grounded and less cartoonish, but she was probably forced to do all those irritating things to keep her recognisable. I will certainly not let Nodame 2.0 stop me from seeing what she can do in Healer 2.weeks.0 :-p

Actors are told how they have to act. You can see it very clearly in Neail Cantabile. It is really funny actually in NC, because you can see that firstly they wanted to go in the comical/slapstick production of a japanese drama action. And than when people started to complain that drama is cringy they took the story and the characters more deeper - what was really nice. In the last episode (which pissed me off) we see again old Nea Il - which means that they wanted make Nodame Canatabile live action 2.0. Thanks God they did not. However drama wasn't as good because of that lack of constancy.
Later on the characters were relly well build. And SEK natural acting in these episodes was very good. She is one of the best actresses in Korea - esspecially from younger generation. She changed Nae Il and I believed in it! If not for that last episode, the Salzburg scenes made before shooting in Korea, the drama would be much better.

I dont know about a healer-esque movie without Park Min Young and all. But I just miss Ji Chang Wook too much so that any new project is a good news for me.
