Fistfights in the rain for JTBC thriller Last
by javabeans
JTBC’s upcoming weekend thriller drama Last has a couple teasers out now, which do a lot of teasing and not really any telling. Mostly, I want JTBC to assure me that yes, there will be moving pictures in this show, right? Not just a bunch of still images, set to music like some kind of crime-themed slideshow?
The promotion on this drama has been stylish but totally nebulous, and their main promo poster is really just font. At least we know from the source material—Last is, like everything these days, based on a webtoon—that the plot kicks off when a fund manager (Yoon Kye-sang) has a deal go horribly awry, leading to the suicide of his partner and plunging him into desperate straits. The first teaser tells us, “350 million lost. That’s the reason for my death.”
He doesn’t die, of course, but he does lose everything and sink into homelessness. Thus begins his life in the underground world, where he encounters and clashes with the man who dominates that realm, played by Lee Beom-soo. I do wish the teasers showed us more action (as in, people moving! speaking! doing things!) but even as a collection of stills, Last looks gritty and promising. And with these two fierce actors facing off in a clash of wills, cross-purposes, and illegal activity? Sounds like fun times.
Last follows JTBC’s currently airing drama Beloved Eun-dong and premieres in July.

This looks cool and definitely worth checking... and it's Lee Beom-soo!
At least I think he won't be wasted here like how he was in Triangle (sigh)

Why are cable dramas so amazing that it just slaps the local networks bigtime? If it weren't for SBS' Mask (which is notably good and really fresh), it would be a hopeless case. I want to forget that eternal plot-flop 'Producer' which corrupted my belief in kdramas.
This totally rocks my socks. This is totally great in 360 degrees. There is absolutely no reason to unlove this. Yoon Kye-sang and Lee Beom-soo joining forces is not only a loadful of talent, it is also a proof that small screen can be worth your time. I am loving every bit of this. Makes me want to rewatch the greats Full Sun and Giant again.
(And Giant is still so outstanding in my heart and in my mind. 60 episodes looks just a passing 10 minutes.)

jTBC has been hitting it out of the park this year. What do you mean by plot-flop Producer? My allergy to Kim Soo Hyun wouldn't let me watch.

The visuals remind me of Nowhere to Hide, a Korean cop film from way back, with An Seong Gi and Park Jung Hun.
