Disaster to hit JTBC with D-Day
by javabeans
I have some good news and some bad news for you, and I’ll let you guys untangle what’s what. Cable station JTBC has announced a new drama that they’ve got in the works, titled (tentatively) D-Day, and it’s a disaster drama set in Seoul. The reports don’t specify what kind of disaster it is other than the natural variety, but it’ll paralyze the city, and the drama will unfold around rescue workers and emergency doctors who jump into action in the aftermath.
There have been some popular disaster movies in the past (Haeundae springs to mind as the most commercially successful of the bunch), but this is apparently the first drama to deal with a natural disaster striking Seoul. With all of the buildings and high-rises in the city, the drama will employ quite a bit of CG work, which I’ll have to cross my fingers is convincing—a blockbuster movie is one thing, but a twice-weekly television series? Let’s just hope they’ll make very good use of their lead time and get the effects up to par.
Casting is reportedly underway, and currently the producers are looking to secure lead actors, particularly those who are characterized by “a weighty presence” to carry the dramatic, tension-filled proceedings. But… producing the show is SM C&C, aka the idol factory that likes to package its K-pop stars into all its projects. I’m going to think positively about their involvement, because maybe every single one of their idols will be busy doing other dramas at the moment, or on tour or something. It could happen, right?
JTBC hasn’t finalized a timeslot yet for D-Day, but there’s talk of putting it as the Friday-Saturday drama to follow Beloved Eun-dong, which follows currently airing series Falling for Innocence. It’s aiming to begin shoots as early as June, for a broadcast later in the summer.

It's a pretty unfair statement for someone like Sooyoung who is actually a good actress.
Y'know, I always find it funny how SM basically does nothing for her acting career (they don't promote her dramas nor help her with roles/auditions) but people always have to be so negative with her because she is from SM. It's really sad but at least, she is proving herself with her acting skills.

None of the SNSD girls since their comeback is in June/July. Anyway, Sooyoung is not the only actress in SM: what about Go Ara, Jong Soo-min or even Yoona who improved a lot recently. So there is more!

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 was an anime series of 11 episodes that had a similar premise - an earthquake hit Tokyo, and we follow young kids that were separated from their parents. Although it was animated, it shows that a type of this show could definitely be done as a episodic human drama.

The drama sounds nice, nothing new but disasters are always a good start for some action! The thing is that kind of heavy premise need heavy actors at least for the leads! Some idols can act but most can’t!! So as long those idols are relegated to the second leads’ zone, I think i can survive.
Ha Ji-won would have been awesome in that lool. For male lead: Jo Jung-suk could be great. Or maybe Jo In-sung…

Do they have much budget? Because if the effect is disappointing then it'll really be a flop.
I normally trust jtbc so I'm not worried about the plot so far.
For some reason I think we should believe in SM C&C this time. They've got plenty of good actresses like Kim Haneul, Jung Somin, and Yoon Sohee. Han Chaeyoung is there too and while she's not my favorite, I think she can pull through.
For the actors, they got Kim Suro, Jang Donggun, and Song Jaerim.
In conclusion, I'm anticipating and having my fingers crossed.

I just have to say, after going around forums for the last few weeks, and after watching videos on youtube... dramabeans' commenters and readers are the nicest. there aren't any trolls or haters with anger issues. I don't know if it's the approval system for comments or because there's no plus/minus system that gives rise to attention seeking trolls or what, but it's nice and peaceful. thumbs up!
