News bites: December 13, 2014
by awcoconuts
- Yoon Hyun-min has been confirmed for Falling For Innocence, which stars his good buddy Jung Kyung-ho and Kim So-yeon (I Need Romance 3) as a heart transplant patient and the woman his heart is in love with. This will be the third collaboration between Yoon and Jung, who became good friends on the set of Heartless City, then went on to support each other in the drama special House, Mate. Yoon, in sharp contrast to his cute Discovery of Romance character, will play a smooth guy who oozes charisma, and who becomes Jung’s rival for the heroine’s attentions. Knowing about their real life bromance should make the onscreen tension fun to watch. Falling For Innocence will air after the conclusion of Maids next year on JTBC.[TV Report]
- Jung Seok-won (Mr. Back) will play a coldhearted Japanese soldier in the upcoming film Daeho (which translates to “a loud cry”). Set in the period of Japanese occupation, Jung will begin a desperate struggle to capture the last tiger in Joseon, and he’ll use hunters and military force to accomplish his goal. Veteran Choi Min-shik (Roaring Currents, Oldboy) is also slated to star, and he expressed his excitement for the film, saying, “It’s a story that’s never been told on film before.” That’s all we know so far about the movie, but with these two on board, I’m already sold. Daeho begins filming at the end of December. [XSports News]
- Jung Hye-sung (Pride and Prejudice) has been cast as the heroine’s bestie in the upcoming vampire medical drama Blood, but she sounds like the type of friend you wish you didn’t have — she’ll get in between the developing loveline between Gu Hye-sun and Ahn Jae-hyun. Blood begins airing in February on KBS on Mondays and Tuesdays. [Star News]
- The second trailer is out for Gangnam 1970, which isn’t all that different from the first trailer, but I enjoyed seeing a little more of Kim Rae-won and the increased emphasis on the bromance-turned-bitter-rivalry between him and Lee Min-ho. The brief snippets of their emotional performances are gripping, and I’m looking forward to the heady match-up. [FN News]
- In a recent interview, manhwa creator Yoon Tae-ho offered up some details on the first three episodes of season 2 of Misaeng (the webtoon). The first will focus on everything it takes to keep a company running, while in the second, Jang Geu-rae heads to a used-car dealership and tries to negotiate a deal. The third episode will deal with the responsibilities that come with getting hitched, as marriage becomes an issue for the youths in their late 20s. When asked if Jang Geu-rae would be involved in a romantic storyline, cartoonist Yoon said, “Of course! He can’t stay single forever.” Misaeng 2 (the webtoon, with the drama hopefully soon to follow) premieres in March. [My Daily]
- Hyun Bin’s enormous salary for Jekyll and Me has been a recent source of controversy: He’s been guaranteed over 90,500 USD per episode, and assuming there will be 20 episodes, he’s guaranteed to earn roughly 1.8 million USD. (A guarantee is not the total revenue earned, but the amount guaranteed to be earned even if the project doesn’t get made.) He also is involved with production and gets a cut of overseas export revenues, so he could earn up to 136,000 USD per episode, meaning that his income alone could account for a third of the per-episode production budget of just over 400,000 USD. In the post-You-From-Another-Star-era, revenues earned from exporting dramas to China have skyrocketed, but most of that income hasn’t translated to greater profits for broadcasters or for production companies. [Munhwa]
- The posters are out for the newest project from Park Se-young (Feel-Good Day), another based-on-webtoon film (her last movie, Fashion King, was also based on a popular webtoon) called Cat’s Funeral. In it, she plays a cartoonist who wears her heart on her sleeve, while Kang In (of SuJu) plays a musician who struggles to express his emotions. While I haven’t seen the original material, Cat’s Funeral looks like a cute romance. The movie hits theaters in January 2015. [Enews 24]

So excited that Yoon Hyun Min is gonna be in the same drama as Jung Kyung Ho! I adore YHM.
And their bromance. <3 But we probably not gonna see that in this drama.

Apparently, I really like Lee Min Ho when he's cast as a man. If you go by that trailer. And parts of City Hunter. See it, I will.

LMH looks really really good and rough like that. It's great to see him pick a different role even if he's good at varying his projects. Very excited for the movie too.

I've been having a LMH withdrawal. Need my dose of a new LMH drama/movie this year. On that note, the trailer was good though I'm distracted with the music on the first part. The thing is, it's in my native tongue. It's about a child who turned their backs on his/her (our language uses unisex when it comes to pronouns so it could go either way) parents when he/she has grown up. There's no scene involving the parents. Still, I'll be waiting for this movie distracting music be damd. :-)
How much was Hyun Bin's salary worth on Won? Would it be at least 1B? That's a lot of money. The question was, will he be worth the return for investment? Forget about LMH and Kim Soo Hyun. Will they pay Lee Seung Gi that much money?

The Cat's Funeral movie looks light enough to watch and the slow-comfortable feel I get from the posters certainly doesn't hurt.

LMH said he looks old and needs to look younger after filming this movie. IMO he looks so much better like this than in Heirs. It is all about baby face but rough LMH looks better imo.
Can't believe they asked KRW to lost 15KG ... that is a bit too much, no?

Wow, Geu Rae in a loveline?! Look forward to it, but glad it's not happening in Season 1!
Park Se Young holding that kitten is adorable! I'm glad that Kang In's got the main guy role. He seems like a really sweet and talented guy!

I really like Jung Hye Sung as cool-headed investigator in Pride and Prejudice. Good for her getting second lead role in Blood although I maybe not watch that drama.

OMG so happy to hear we are going to get Misaeng Season2 and 3! Real life marriage issues will be so interesting!!
I hope it will be with the same director.
Can't wait for Gangnam 1970. The trailer is exciting. LMH suits the big screen and looks so manly. Both KRW and LMH are mighty fine !
Saw some snippets of Blood filming locations in Romania. Looks interesting.Definitely will check it out. I have been waiting for a vampire medical drama for years.
Not gripping on the huge salary for HB but what is left in the budget for everything else? It is a gamble , isn't it?

I was surprised to hear the song used in the Gangnam 1970 trailer... it's a Filipino song (Anak by Freddie Aguilar) popular in the late 70s about a child and how his choices affected his parents. I'm not sure the lyrics have anything to do with the story, but it does set the tone pretty nicely.

There's nothing surprising about that, "Anak" was intensely popular in South Korea around the same time Freddie Aguilar released it.
So popular, they left it untranslated (Japan made their own translated version) and in the original Filipino.

The two trailers are great in their own respective ways, and I'm really looking forward to seeing Gangnam 1970. Is it based on a true story?
Anyway, I'm happy that Yoon Hyun-min is doing another drama. I loved him in Heartless City.

yeah, there are a lot of people in Misaeng whose love lines I would be highly interested in, and I definitely think Dong-shik deserves some love <3
(also if we do get some love lines for Geu-rae.....I wonder if that will stop my shipping him with Young-yi, I love how sweet and puppylike he is with her)

You mean no additional news or no news in DB? Newsbites was posted on 13 Dec and the news on the Maid's set was posted on 14 Dec in a separate article.

I was pleasantly surprised to watch Kang-In in the trailer, moving around and interacting with Park Se Young comfortably, unlike his AS4U's MC gig. Bad boy seems to have wisen up. Glad for him. :)

I now have a reason to watch Falling for Innocence: the bromance.
I love Lee Min ho more than Kim Rae won, but in Gangnam 1970's trailer I was more attracted to Kim Rae won than Lee Min ho.
The Cat's Funeral looks cute and comfortable. And I'm down with anything that has cats.

I'm mad that they're gonna make us choose between them in Falling for Innocence. Can't they ever have a happy bromance? Sigh.
So that's what a dude version of LMH looks like. Huh. Korean gangsters are one of my favorite mainstays in Korean entertainment. Hope he does it justice. (Don't kill me fangirls, its just that his face tends to outshine his chops and I prefer that ratio reversed).
Yay! I like Park Se-young, Hope its good. I don't get cat people though, they look so shrewd it makes me uncomfortable. I like hedgehogs.

Almost forgot: Jung Seok-won! I love his face. Kinda shallow but yea. Hope he gets lots of love in this project. Choi Min-sik means good things so between the two of them I am sold.
