Potential My Girl reunion in MBC’s upcoming Hotel King
by javabeans
javabeans: So apparently Lee Da-hae is looking at new dramas, like this new tidbit about her considering an MBC weekender called Hotel King. Wait, that sounds familiar… Hey, is that the Lee Dong-wook…?
girlfriday: MY GIRL!!! …Redux?
javabeans: OH RIGHT. Wait! What? Ooh! Huh? I need a second to gather my thoughts.
girlfriday: So… Lee Da-hae might be reuniting with Lee Dong-wook in a drama where he plays the exact same character as he did in My Girl?
javabeans: Screw the drama, I just want them to fall in love and date and maybe get married now. There were whisperings that they dated after My Girl wrapped, and I choose to purposely not delve into that story because I would rather just believe it happened. Maybe this will be their second chance at happiness.
girlfriday: Maybe it’s better that they didn’t date the first time around, because then that would just be awkward.
javabeans: Orrrrr… if they DID date, it would just shorten the dancing-around period and cut right to the chase where they just get married or whatever.
girlfriday: But the dance is fun!
javabeans: They can dance all they want in the DRAMA, in real life I want results, pronto. Also I have been waiting eight years apparently.
girlfriday: Clearly what we really want is a meta drama where they’re actors falling in love behind the scenes.
javabeans: See the thing is, My Girl isn’t my favorite drama of all time and I actually think Lee Da-hae and Lee Dong-wook have been way better in other shows, but for whatever reason I have SUCH a huge soft spot for that drama, and specifically them together in that drama, and that carries over into the rest of their work and lives (obviously, based on this post, although to be fair I didn’t actually realize how much I wanted them to be together until this post).
girlfriday: Do you need a moment?
javabeans: Carry on without me. *fans self* *dreams of the My Girl epilogue that should have happened, because dammit if that 5-minute ending wasn’t enough* Okay I’m back.
girlfriday: Should we maybe talk about this show now?
javabeans: …fine.
girlfriday: Wait, is this a mystery drama?
javabeans: Whaaa? Well, I guess that’s my fault for not bothering to read before getting lost in fantasies of My Girl: The Married Years. So apparently the hero is a guy abandoned by his father, which turns him cold, and then he becomes a successful hotelier.
girlfriday: Cold chaebol, check. Is our heroine a tour guide, a professional liar, or cousin-impersonator, by any chance?
javabeans: The stories tell us nothing. NOTHING! I guess we only have our imaginations to rely upon. Apparently Lee Yubi is another casting contender for the lead, and okay, I actually like her more than Lee Da-hae, BUT NOT THIS TIME. Lee Yubi can go do something else and leave my fantasies alone.
girlfriday: Hahaha. Clearly reason has no place here.
javabeans: I think really, this story has just proven (rather surprisingly, in fact) that I like My Girl a whole lot more than I thought I did. I don’t really care about this story at all, as it turns out, I just want it to happen, with these two leads. Now if Lee Da-hae declines (Lee Dong-wook appears to be fixed), then all bets are off. Otherwise I’ll see you all here on MBC weekends, beginning March 29. Not that I promise recaps or anything, or at least recaps that are about Hotel King and not My Girl.
girlfriday: I think we just discovered the one thing you’d actually write fanfiction about.

OMGGGGGG MY GIRL. I actually watched that kinda recently. Like last year. It made Lee Da Hae more likeable. She was so freaking cute!!
Ah if Junki was in this movie, that would be so nice to see!

Yay, My Girl! It was my first Kdrama romcom. I used to love to laugh at all of Lee Dong-wook's coats. Those were the days :-)

I admit to not being into the MY Girl craze and boy was it a craze when it was airing. I liked it but I really did not love it. I was much more into DGCH for Hong sisters shows. But I love reduxes and no one does reduxes better than LDH with working with costars again. Granted I know JH has a hand in that but still... Rarely do big names in Korea ever reunite onscreen. I can ship LDH and LDW... I don't ship in real life but I can ship their characters. Dramaland... Make it happen... I wanna read the recaps!!

Am I the only one doesn't like LDH?
I don't like her since Chuno and Miss Ripley..
Even in Iris 2, I can't watch that drama because of her... Is it watchable drama, everyone? I need opinion so that I can change my impression of her...
I don't know, I think I want LDW with another actress in this drama..
Just my opinion...
Sorry for bad English :(

Hm I dont' dislike her, I think she's a good actress. But to be honest I didn't watch any of her series after My Girl. Tried watching Hello! Miss and was disappointed. Was kinda interested with Miss Ripley but she looks a bit unhealthy in there I can't stand it.
It saddens me when I see an actress' looks change when they are already so pretty. Now they all have huge eyes, sharp jaws, and are stick thin. Sigh.

The first time I watched LDH was in Chuno and the character she played was just horrible. Weak.
So that was more the role's fault than herself, but it still didn't leave me a good impression of her.
Then I watched her in My Girl and she was super super cute. Much more fun to watch.

Everyone's entitled to his/her own opinion. That is why there are so many artists around and so many different kinds of drama genre and types. To LDH's fans, she is loveable for who she is. I believe MG was a special drama which got many of us hooked onto K-drama and I am one of them. LDH and LDW will always hold a special place in my heart.

I have to admit My Girl doesn't have the same feeling for me when I re-watch it but every now and then I do re-watch the later episodes especially the last episode because of Jae Hee and Han Chae Young's cameo at the end. But this reunion excites me. Not going to lie I wasn't even giving this drama a second though the first time I heard about it but a possible My Girl reunion? Might actually have to tune in.

My favourite scene in My Girl is definitely when Yoo Rin wanted to buy a bra (at a night market..?) and asked for a B cup. The ahjumma said "Yours is definitely A, A!" and Yoo Rin was like "It's B! B!" and then Gong Chan interjects "Listen to the ahjumma, I think it's A" and then Yoo Rin was like, how do you know? Have you seen them? And then Gong Chan said, "Yeah, I've seen them." HAHA.
Yoo Rin's face the whole time is priceless.
p/s I totally Ctrl+F 'bra' to see if anyone mentioned this already. Ha!

My god, at the ripe age of 15 was when I discovered this drama and the world of kdramas. I was so addicted that I didn't even watch this with subtitles. I watched this on divx while reading translations on the internet. This meant constantly pausing and reading, pausing and reading. So because of that, this drama will forever hold a place in my heart. I worked hard watching it goddamnit! I have not watched any drama with either of them after my girl because I was SO stuck on gongchan and yoorin. If this means they'll be reunited, "well lord have mercy I'll drop to my knees."

Man I think there's been enough of a gap between my last My Girl rewatch that I can probably go at it again.
My Girl was how I became forever hooked onto kdramas (Thanks youtube!). I think I'd watched another melo before it and thought "meh interesting..."
And then stumbled onto a clip of LDH diving onto her bed when she's trying to be pretend to be asleep. I just thought it was so ridiculous but oh my LDW reeled me in right after. They were so cute and silly and gorgeous.
I definitely didn't care much for the overall plotline but it was bearable for the most part because it just kept these two around each other. But man I really disliked LJK in this!
The last few episodes still piss me off actually. I feel forever cheated out of cute couple moments. Couldn't we have had a special or something?!

Omg My Girl was the second drama I ever watched (the first being Save the Last Dance For Me with Jisung and Eugene) and I found myself like weirdly obsessed with it. Like sure, it was exaggerated at times, but it moved me and made me laugh tons and was angsty in all the right places and yeah it's still my favorite drama.
I absolutely ADORE LDW and LDH together and my shippy heart has taken me out of my 4 year hiatus from dramas (crazy right??) to watch Hotel King. I'm a BIT distressed that they aren't all cutesy as they were in MG (SINFUL LACK OF KISSES AND MUTUAL EYE SEX)
But yeah, as JB mentioned above, I could care less honestly, JUST GET MARRIED IN RL PLEASE
Like I hardly ship real life couples, but this pair is golden.
