The Princess’s Man PD returns with new sageuk for KBS
by girlfriday
While MBC is over there having their programming kerfuffle with their 2014 banner sageuks, KBS has gotten some ducks in a row this year, and is already programming into June. This summer will mark the return of PD Kim Jung-min of the hit 2011 Joseon’s-Romeo-and-Juliet sageuk romance The Princess’s Man, in a new project called The Joseon Gunman. So I guess that puts us in late Joseon then. Points for a rollicking title.
It’ll be KBS’s next-next-next Wednesday-Thursday drama, after Age of Feeling and Golden Cross. It’s being planned as a 20-episode series to air this summer, and casting is currently underway for the leads. The drama will be set in the bloom of 19th-century Joseon, and centers around the son of Joseon’s greatest swordsman. He loses his father and sister (hey that happens in Golden Cross too) and as he sets out to avenge their deaths, he throws away the sword and picks up a gun, becoming the Joseon Gunman.
It’s described as a drama that depicts “the youth of that era and their pain and courage.” It sounds like a fun action-adventure series (it’s good to know there’ll be swords AND guns), and what I hope is that it’s also an epically badass hero’s tale. Between pirates and bandits and gunmen, summer is definitely the season I’m looking forward to this year.
The Joseon Gunman will premiere in June.

If this is a gunwoman then moon chae won would be my choice but it's gunman so I don't want her to act in this drama. I want a drama just for her

Lee Jun Ki !!!!
I want to see some real fight scenes. It seem until now the only fight, sword scenes I love only in Iljimae. In Iljimae fight scenes he really rock !
Oh, did I missing something ? Im not read any love story than revenge, fight and sword/gun. So I do hope a male co-star....a great bromance ?
Im so sold....Lee Jun Ki is a few actor that have tons of male fans.

Wooo.
Sounds interesting.
Joo Won seems perfect. He can expanding his genre, sageuk piece will be a challenge for him. Working with an established sageuk PD can benefit him in the future.
I hope to hear some interesting casting for this drama. I can imagine badass action with blood, swords and guns.. awesome. We need someone with depth in acting.

I'm voting Lee Yoo-bi to be the female lead, and would love to see her being some cheeky thief who might discover her horrible past regarding her birth family. Yeah, I hope this drama will have some funny, light-hearted moments like Legendary Hong Gil-dong.
But I did enjoy "Princess's Man" even though it's dark and heartbreaking that I nearly couldn't breathe while watching it.
Anyway, shouldn't the male lead be a very young guy? I admit that Lee Joon-gi was good in portraying the Magistrate, but this storyline made me imagine of a very young man who lost his sister and father to the father's friend-turned-betrayer. Hence, several years have passed with him wandering in every village, carrying his special gun. So I'm guessing the lead male character is around his late 20s.
So, by all means the actor should be looking "not too young and not too old" type. But this is just my opinion and even if there isn't of my favourite actors on this drama, I'll still watch it as its plotline is one of the most interesting storyline in a Joseon historical drama.
But, I'll give you a hint on who I want to be the male lead....
He's also a Lee, and is starring in "You Came From The Stars" as a secretary.
Why I chose him...
Simply because I saw him shirtless in "Blade and Petal".
Who doesn't want that except the female audiences? XD
Anyway, I'll be waiting and (fingers cross) on my favourite actor being cast in this drama.
