Taecyeon romances Basketball’s Lee Elijah in new drama
by javabeans
I’m wondering who it is that watched the ill-fated Occupation-set period drama Basketball, took in lead actress Lee Elijah’s awkward and sometimes confusing performance, and thought, “Yes, let’s ask her to act some more.” Because I would like to suggest to that person that a re-evaluation might be in order of their eyes, decision-making process, and perhaps also career path. ‘Cause let’s face it, she was not good in that drama, and it wasn’t merely a case of greenness that experience might eventually overcome, but bad enough to make me angry at her for being so frustrating. (On paper there’s no way the love triangle shouldn’t have worked, but mostly I just thought less of both guys for being dumb over her.)
Be that as it may, Lee Elijah has landed herself another drama: She’ll be romancing Taecyeon in upcoming weekend series Wonderful Season, whose headliners are Lee Seo-jin and Kim Hee-sun. It’s the drama written by Lee Kyung-hee, scripter of compelling melodramas like Nice Guy, Will It Snow For Christmas, and Thank You, so I expect it to be fast-moving and watchable at the very least.
The drama centers around a prosecutor (Lee Seo-jin) who rose out of his impoverished beginnings to success, who comes back to his hometown in the sticks fourteen years after leaving it. In the process, he’ll learn the importance of family, the greatnesss of love, and the value of neighbors and warmth. Taecyeon plays one of Lee Seo-jin’s brothers (Ryu Seung-soo plays their hyung), and he’ll get caught up in a bickering romance with Lee Elijah, who plays a teacher at a rural school who grew up comfortably in a well-off family.
To give her character a bit of a quirk factor, she also happens to be the regional president of the SHINee fan club and always uses SHINee examples while explaining her lessons. Ha. Please tell me there’ll be lots of 2PM digs at Taecyeon’s expense—you can’t pass up such a golden opportunity for meta jokes!
Wonderful Season plans to premiere in February after the currently running King’s Family wraps. Though at the rate King’s Family is going, I wouldn’t be surprised if it got extended a bit, after having repeatedly broken 40% ratings and established itself as a national drama. Sure that show’s crazy and nonsensical, but people are watching. (And yes, so am I. I don’t even know why. Don’t ask me hard questions.)

gee, sounds like basketball was really terrible! (I also dropped it early on and watched the disaster unfold via the OT)
It may be that this is her big acting break, but I feel bad for all the other hopefuls who didn't get a chance, when they've worked so hard.
I've been watching "Cheomdamdong 111" (about the FNC Entertainment agency) and it's sheer craziness what these kids go through for a chance to succeed in the industry! I didn't realise many of them didn't even get paid until 2-3 years after they starting making money!

My thoughts:
1- Dammit... They 'grace' me with not only Taecyeon but Elijah too? I hardly miss weekend drama, KBS. How can you this to me??? My loyalty has no value to you??
2- At least they are minor roles. And I pray to all drama gods out there, make it really really really minor roles. Please~
3- Lee Seo Jin need to fill 1/3 of the drama, 1/3 by Ryu Seungsoo and the rest are the responsibilities of their parents, village president & his family, old flames. Perfect formula imo.

She is sooo bad. Her act makes me cringe everytime.
I wonder how she got a role again... Someone must be pulling some strings.

I do not know the lady, but if she is as bad as you all say, there is no hope for this series, considering her co-star also has the acting skills and charisma of a pineapple. The boy looks cute and nice and all, but he can't act.
'Age of Feeling' cast two bad actors to lead, this one is doing the same. I hope this is not foreshadowing a trend in Dramaland for 2014. If they must insist on bad actors in the role of a lead, at least cast someone capable with them to carry the show.
Casting two bad ones as the leads can often not be salvageable, no matter how good the plot.
Let us hope whatever bug bit So Ji Sub into acquiring a soul will also help these ones acquire skills along with it. I'll pass, but 'Age of Feeling' is one I want to watch and want to be good.

The thing with Age of Feeling, is that Kim Hyun-joong actually took acting lessons to improve, before when he was supposed to do City Conquest, which was then cancelled. I would bet that he has improved a great deal if he is being cast in a drama that is being produced on this scale. I mean, surely the producers have sense and aren't just casting him for his star-power. I would certainly hope so, since I really want it to be good too, and I just have such a soft spot for Kim Hyun-joong. I have no comment on either of the female leads in AoF, so I'm in the wait-and-see mode for them.

Im Soo Hyang is still an amateur but bearable, but I hear Jin Se Yeon has been as bad as in 'Gaksital' in the rest of her works.
But hey, I did not know about the acting lessons. This gives me hope. I really like the vibe I get from Kim and he works in front of the camera so I really do want to see him get better.
As for this one, at least they are not the leads, but still. Some people should not act until they have been taught how to. If they don't improve, let them just find another career or focus on their music, if idols.

I have no idea why Jin Se-yeon keeps getting cast in lead roles, either - she's a terrible actor, and bland and forgettable on top of it.
I wonder if the Korean public thinks she's pretty/she's done lots of popular CFs or something, because I can't see any reason for a relative newbie with so little acting ability, to be scoring roles over some of the FAR more talented actresses in her age group (Kim Ji-won, Han Groo, and Lee Yubi, to name just three)

The So Ji-sub shade is somewhat unfair, at least he proved he could act before he went off to MS even if he's not as great in all his projects as he was in MiSa and Master's Sun.
With Taecyeon, I don't think he even has the raw material to be an actor, at all. I legitimately have no idea why he continues to act, other than apparent idol entitlement.

At least they are not leads.
I am a 2PM fan, but even I agree that Taec should not act. He is so bad, awkward, stiff at acting. I feel so incredibly bad for the good actors he takes the role away from.
I don't understand why the agency is pushing him in acting either. From the group Chansung is better. And I didn't see Junho's movie yet, but from what I heard from others he was good too. If they want to get roles for their idols why not try to get for them instead, who might actually can act?
Taec should just sell and design plushies, from what I heard he is succesful in that.
I guess I will try it, because I loved the writers previous dramas.
I am thinking that what can the directors and writers do when they stuck with "actors" like them. They can for example focus on different characters or sceneries, show other clips when they speak, you know not showing much their emotions, or they can try to limit the characters so that their lack of acting ability wouldn't be too disturbing.
I feel sorry for the staff as well.

I didn't watch Basketball, so I have no comment on her acting, only on her name. Isn't "Elijah" a boy's name? Whatever.
My reaction to Taecyeon's casting is "eh." *shrug* I love him as an idol and a member of 2PM, and I think he's a decent guy, but I've never finished a drama he's been in, and some I've not watched at all. What I saw of him in Cinderella's Sister I liked well enough, though. Overall, I shrug at his casting and am bewildered by hers.
Probably won't watch this.

What's up with the girl has a sponsor, but Taec doesn't? I mean, there is much his company can do, and to keep getting leading roles when his group is not that popular anymore in korea than Japan, or his drama also don't get high ratings, one can wonder if he also doesn't have a sponsor.

i don't think anybody is saying taecyeon don't have a sponsor, it's a known fact that idol groups get acting roles because they have sponsors backing them, but this girl is not an idol and also worse in acting, plus she's a newcomer and she's getting roles in weekend dramas, so obviously people are gonna suspect she must have a big sponsor, also she's not pretty like kim tae hee, shin se kyung or suzy if people want to pull out a beauty card...

The bickering romance story between the 3rd brother and the school teacher sounds great BUT the actors playing them......Very Sad Face!! If only better actors/actresses are playing this.
However, LSJ and KHS are the leads and RSS is in it too, all actors that I like so will watch this. But really the story of bickering romance just sounds so cute. Why does it have to be Taec and LE?? Maybe they have improved by the time the drama airs? Please, please let them improve.

Why didn't they give the role to Jo Bo-ah (Shut Up: Flower Boy Band)? I thought she was okay for a first timer. I'd really want to see her in another drama again.
But anyway, it's not as if Taecyeon's a good actor so let Lee Elijah be his partner by all means. ;)

Omg hahaha I never watched Basketball so I just jumped right into episode 2 to see how bad she is and she is just cringeworthy. Her acting is that of the kid who's just participating in the highschool play for extra credits.
