The new millennium wipes the slate clean and sets us up for the final game (thank goodness). In the search for answers, everyone muses on the role of Fate—is it a real thing, an entity out to mess with us all, or just another name for good old-fashioned timing?

EPISODE 19: “Do you believe in Fate?”
It’s January 2000, and Samcheonpo narrates that despite his hopes, the world did not end because of Y2K after all, and he still has to report to the office for his first day of work. Haitai makes sure to rub it in after chatting on the phone with girlfriend Ae-jung and telling her how much he loves her.
Samcheonpo tells us that he failed spectacularly at getting into grad school, and finally joined the rank and file at a big company. His job: the all-important, highly specialized Copy & Fax Minion. We watch him struggle to make ten copies (he makes a thousand instead, ha) and he narrates: “The world should’ve ended.”
Yoon-jin stuck through the hard times at her job even when they couldn’t afford to pay her, so now she’s in her third year at the office. She comes home the bedraggled breadwinner, while Samcheonpo irons. Heh, they’re already like a married couple, and she warns him not to touch her tonight because she’s tired.
Binggeure is already wearing lab coats and putting in rounds at the hospital, and Na-jung is busying herself with the new goal of getting a driver’s license. Samcheonpo argues with her about TV rights (FinKL vs. Heo Jun), and gets attacked. He tells us she returned from Australia with her personality intact.
Mom and Dad are in good spirits because Dad has just been rehired by the Twins after a two-year hiatus, which he spent working at a friend’s business. Mom steams crabs for the occasion, and Na-jung tears into them with so much gusto I’m jealous. Dad wonders if she starved while in Australia, but she doesn’t pay them any mind and just chows down to her heart’s content.
The doorbell rings and Haitai returns to the kitchen to tell everyone to hurry up and grab their cameras, and then Chilbongie shoves him into the room for a big jolly, “I’m HE~RE!” Aw. Everybody cheers, and Na-jung just glances up while stuffing her face some more, since she saw him just the other night.
He comes bearing a chocolate cake for Mom and a 30-year scotch for Dad, and the other guys marvel at his memory. Dad gets walloping drunk right away, and the other kids get excited when Binggeure mentions that Chilbongie is doing a talk show interview soon.
As they eat he notices a piece of crab on Na-jung’s face and stops to peel it off and wipe her cheek clean with his hand, and it catches everyone’s eye at the table.
The gang drinks upstairs after dinner, and Chilbongie confirms that he’s due in America by the end of January. Poo. He’s taking some extra time off while he can, and the other guys suggest it’s a good chance to get his driver’s license. They tell him that Na-jung has already scoped out a surefire academy in Jeonju that promises to get you a license, and the two exchange an awkward look. Road trip?
Road trip! They get on the bus to go to Jeonju, and Chilbongie sighs at the amount of stuff to be memorized on the written test. Na-jung tells him it’s a piece of cake and that the trick isn’t memorizing, but comprehending.
He pouts. Aw, this brings back happy memories of the time she tried to tutor him in school. My favorite thing about Chilbongie is that he’s realistically terrible at studying.
Na-jung scores 100 on her test, as expected, and then goes to find Chilbongie expecting to congratulate him. He tells her he failed with a sheepish grin, and then we cut to the whole group laughing hysterically at the story as he tells them he scored 44.
One by one, Binggeure and Haitai get called away on boyfriend duty, and then even Samcheonpo gets the bright idea to call Yoon-jin while she’s sitting next to him. Heh. That just leaves Na-jung and Chilbongie alone again for an awkward beat.
He says he’s going to retake the driving test tomorrow, and asks if it’s okay if he sleeps over in Binggeure’s room. He looks at the medical texts on Binggeure’s desk with a smile (hilariously failing to read the English title to himself), and notices Garbage’s notebooks with a long face.
Binggeure has gone to the hospital to visit Garbage, but finds him sleeping after a long surgical rotation. He just leaves a coffee and a post-it on his desk and heads out.
Samcheonpo reminds Yoon-jin about his sunbae’s wedding tomorrow, and gets thwacked for trying to sneak up like a zombie and steal a kiss. Points for style though.
Mom is a happy camper now that the house is bustling again, and sighs that all they need is Garbage and it’ll be like old times. Binggeure and Haitai freeze awkwardly at that, knowing his fallout with Na-jung keeps him away. Dad sighs that it’s been a year since he’s seen his best friend because of it all, though he has plans to see him soon. Mom presents Dad with a pair of matching red mittens she knitted for their family—Mom, Dad, Na-jung, and Joonie. He characteristically complains while still putting them on, even hitting Binggeure for trying to steal them.
The parents wonder about Yoon-jin and Samcheonpo and why they aren’t getting married now that both are gainfully employed. Dad jokes that they’ll just have kids right here in this house and never leave.
At the wedding later that day Samcheonpo is as doting a boyfriend as ever, running to get Yoon-jin the food she wants, or answering questions about how long they’ve been dating in number of days, not years.
But when their friends ask about when they’re getting married, Samcheonpo says he has no plans for marriage. Yoon-jin is caught off-guard, clearly not on the same page, and Haitai sees it written all over her face.
She makes painfully insincere attempts to agree with him, and excuses herself to go to the restroom. Haitai yells at Samcheonpo for his thickheaded ways, and he just sits there totally oblivious.
Chilbongie and Na-jung are on their way back from Day 2 of driving tests, and he’s failed yet again. He asks her not to rat him out to their friends, and she deadpans, “Tell me the truth. You’re dumb, right?” Pfft.
He swears it’s because he didn’t have time to study last night, but is determined to pass tomorrow. She acknowledges his persistence, wondering if that’s what got him to the major league.
Samcheonpo comes by to ask Yoon-jin if she’ll come to a movie tomorrow with the gang, but she answers noncommittally that she’ll see. She answers a late-night call from a work sunbae, and Samcheonpo gets all rankled that he’s calling so late. She reminds him that they’re just friends, “besides, it’s not like you and I are getting married or anything.” Oouuuuch. Please, take the hint.
He doesn’t, but thankfully Na-jung and Haitai are around to pull their hair out and scream at him to hurry up and tell Yoon-jin that he wants to marry her. Samcheonpo argues that he DOES want to marry her, but not yet—he’ll tell her when the time is right.
They try their damnedest to make him understand that he has to let her know that he intends to marry her, even if it’s someday in the future, but he doesn’t understand why. It’s like banging your head against a wall, and Haitai and Na-jung nearly explode trying to reason with him.
The group makes plans to meet at the theater later that night, and Na-jung runs off in anticipation of getting her license today. Binggeuere worries that Chilbongie will fail again today, but Na-jung says he couldn’t possibly unless he was a total moron…
…And of course he failed again. Pwahaha. He explains how close he was to passing with a goofy grin, and Na-jung smiles back like she’s patronizing a simpleton. They realize there isn’t time for a whole meal before the movie, and he happily suggests this new bakery he discovered that has the name of some dinosaur or something (it’s Tous Les Jours, which he reads like it’s English).
She takes his word for it, only to arrive at the bakery and realize what he meant, and has a grand ol’ time piling on the jokes, which go totally over his head. She asks him to go inside and order the Tyrannosaurus bread, or on second thought, the whole Jurassic Park set. He just smiles and nods, repeating her words like it’s a real order. LOL.
Haitai and girlfriend Ae-jung are the only ones to meet them at the theater, Binggeure and Die-Die having ditched them to watch the sex movie that’s playing on the other screen. Everyone gulps awkwardly at that.
Ae-jung is shocked that Haitai is actually friends with famous baseball star Chilbongie, who says he’s heard a lot about her and that they reunited on New Year’s Eve. He adds that he and Na-jung did too, which startles her.
They settle into their seats for the movie, but then Chilbongie tenses up when the man next to him introduces himself as a reporter who interviewed him once. Uh-oh. He remains wary of the reporter’s presence the whole time, and then chases him out afterwards.
He asks the reporter not to write the story he’s about to write, and the reporter doesn’t look inclined to let it go. “She’s your girlfriend, right?”
Chilbongie: “She isn’t. Not yet. I like her on my own.” He confesses that he likes her and promises to give him an exclusive when he’s officially in a relationship, and the reporter softens at that. Whew, bullet dodged.
Dad goes to see his bestie (Garbage’s dad) while he’s in the hospital for a regular checkup, and they chitchat good-naturedly with zero hard feelings on either end about the kids’ broken engagement. Dad asks after Garbage and says it’s time he meet with him, and promises his buddy he won’t beat his son or anything.
Garbage runs down to meet Dad, head hanging, and sits down in preparation to hear the worst. Garbage apologizes for not calling and apologizes again, and Dad tells him to stop saying sorry: “It’s not your fault. It’s not anyone’s fault.”
Dad says he’s okay now, and tells Garbage to call Mom at least once a month. He promises, all quivering lip and shaky voice like a little boy.
It’s when Dad takes a deep breath and calls him “Son” that the tears start to spill uncontrollably. Dad says he opposed the two of them dating because, “I don’t know what you thought about it, but you’re a son to me.”
He starts to say after they lay Na-jung’s oppa Hoon to rest… but gets choked up just bringing up his son’s name. Dad says that after he died, Garbage called them mother and father and filled their lives, making each day a little better. “And I was grateful.”
“But when you said you were dating Na-jungie, I was disappointed, and worried—Ah, so I’ll lose another son this way.” He admits to being worried for Na-jung, to being angry at the both of them for breaking up, and thinking of yelling at them until they fixed things.
But he sighs that things don’t happen in life the way you want them to. “And what you are to me… Could I live the rest of my life not seeing you? I’m okay. I’m okay now, so call home once in a while.” Man, nobody can break my heart like Dad.
He chuckles, “Still, saying everything on my mind to my son for the first time in a long time feels nice.” He’s back to his nagging self by the time Garbage walks him out to a cab, and tells him to wear a coat when it’s cold.
He digs out those red family mittens that Mom knitted for him and stuffs them in Garbage’s hand without explanation, insisting he wear them. Awwwww, Daaaaaaaad.
The air is still frosty between Yoon-jin and Samcheonpo, and he trails after her with the reminder that he made reservations at a French restaurant for tonight. Haitai bets they’ll break up, Binggeure bets they won’t, and Na-jung bets they’ll break up at least once. Dad: “I bet you’ll all be dead in three seconds.” Ha. Everyone skedaddles.
Dad heads out for drinks with his team and Mom takes Joonie to Masan, which leaves Na-jung staring at the family car keys with an evil glint in her eye. She asks Haitai and Binggeure who wants to be the first to be taken for a ride, and they tiptoe away gingerly.
Right on cue, poor Chilbongie comes by sing-song-ing, “Na-jung-ah, come out and play~!” Binggeure and Haitai mime at him to run for the hills, but they’re too late to save him.
He doesn’t seem worried until they get in the car and she tells him it’s her first time actually driving in the city and not on a practice course, pffft. I’m so scared for you. Also, who gives licenses away like that?
It doesn’t exactly put him at ease when she suddenly forgets which pedal is which, and things just get worse as she takes him on the tensest drive ever, screaming in fear while crawling along in the street.
Samcheonpo ends up stuck at an office party much later than he’d planned, and has to call Yoon-jin to apologize and cancel their dinner plans. She then answers a call from her sunbae, asking if she’s busy tonight.
Samcheonpo ends up in one of those horribly awkward situations where his work superiors are drunkenly asking him to call his girlfriend over so they can meet her, and despite his attempts to explain that they’re fighting and she can’t come, they make him feel pressured enough to grit his teeth and make the call.
Naturally Yoon-jin says no because she hates those things, besides the fact that he isn’t exactly her favorite person right now.
Na-jung and Chilbongie finally make it to his place in one piece, and it only took them the entire day to drive across town. Ha. She’s way too freaked out to even consider driving back on her own, and asks to leave the car here while she takes a cab home. Hahaha.
Samcheonpo counts down the seconds till the noraebang clock runs out, only to be told they paid for an extra hour and won’t leave until his girlfriend shows herself. Oy. He tries calling again, but now her phone is off.
The situation inside just gets worse, so he heads out to try calling one last time. He gives up when she doesn’t answer, thinking it’s over. But when he looks up, Yoon-jin walks through the door, all dolled up and prepared to do the thing she hates, just for him. Aw. Marry her, you fool!
Na-jung and Chilbongie stand in the street waiting for a cab, when Mom calls in a panic to say that Dad got drunk at the team party and fell and broke some bones. Oh no. Someone has to go to the hospital to sign for surgery, and Mom’s in Masan, so Na-jung has to go.
Na-jung starts to freak out, crying at the lack of cabs when she needs to go to Dad. Chilbongie watches her tensely for a moment, and then caves: “Hand me your keys.” What. If he knows how to drive, I’ll die laughing.
Sure enough, he gets behind the wheel and weaves through traffic with ease. Na-jung gapes at him, and he smiles sheepishly, “So… I was going to tell you, really…” Hahahahaha. She snaps at him that they’ll discuss it later, though she totally gives him the death glare of doom.
Yoon-jin sings a duet (Trip Sketch’s “Fate”) with Samcheonpo in front of his coworkers, and totally makes his night.
Na-jung and Chilbongie pace back and forth outside the operating room, and the doc comes out to say that Dad will be fine. He’s got a bunch of broken bones that’ll need to heal, but he’s okay.
Na-jung’s legs finally give out once the relief hits, and Chilbongie catches her before she falls. He sits her down and puts an arm around her to comfort her.
At home, Samcheonpo comes to Yoon-jin’s room and says he has something to give her. Ack, she looks like she’s expecting a ring, which makes me positive he’s going to muck it up instead. He tells her to close her eyes and put out her hand, so she does, palm down, totally expecting him to slide a ring on her finger. While she has her eyes closed he futzes with something, and then tells her to open her eyes.
She opens them to find three bankbooks tucked into her fingers, ha. He says that he really likes her, and that he wants to do a fancy proposal too, “But I’m a person who needs a plan. What can I do, when this is who I am?”
He asks for her understanding, because who else in the world would? He tells her that one account is for a house, one is savings, and the last… is for their wedding. Aw. “These funds haven’t matured. But when they do, I’ll propose.” Best non-proposal proposal ever. He asks her to be patient till then, and hugs her sweetly. And then he adds that if that sunbae calls her again, he’ll rip his head off. Ha.
Na-jung finally calms down once she knows that Dad is okay, and then she tells Chilbongie to fess up and hand over his wallet. Haha, caught. He cringes and hands it over, and she finds his driver’s license right there.
He swears he was going to tell her, and she just rails at him for making her the idiot. I think you’re pretty even on that score. He pouts, “Well what was I supposed to do? I have to go back to America in half a month, and I’m out of time.” He fesses up to doing it on purpose, not really knowing what else to do after seeing her again like that on New Year’s Eve. He felt like this was his last chance, and if he lost it it’d really be the end.
He asks if she remembers what he asked when they parted—if they met again years later and she didn’t have anyone by her side, for her to date him. He wrings his hands nervously and takes a deep breath: “Na-jung-ah, I like you a lot. I liked you when I first saw you, and I still… I like you now.”
Mom breaks the tension with a call, and Chilbongie goes to get them some coffee. When Mom hears that she was able to get to the hospital so soon because she was with Chilbongie, she says it’s good luck that he was there, and tells Na-jung to buy him something to eat. “Heaven helped us.” Na-jung looks up at Chilbongie coming toward her, perhaps with new eyes.
Na-jung: Sometimes there are moments when I really feel like there is a God. Even if there isn’t, there are times I feel like there has to at least be a something like Fate to explain certain situations. This exquisite coincidence, this unbelievable timing, this ingenious reversal—it’s possible that my fate is playing a game with me.
Or a writer is. Just sayin’.
Garbage sleepwalks to his bunk, where his buddy tells him about Dad’s surgery. Garbage scrambles to run out the door, but his buddy tells him that was already hours ago: “You’re late. You’re beyond late.” Augh, always Oppa’s curse, isn’t it?
Garbage: Fate is damned. Fate is cruel. And Fate… is strong. Fate throws us into dilemmas, traps us in corners where we can’t do a thing, and in the bitter end, even ignores our sincere prayers. That’s how Fate is damned. That’s how Fate is cruel and strong.
As Oppa narrates, we go back to New Year’s Eve, when he finishes his work and steps outside as it starts to snow. But as soon as he does, someone runs out to say that his professor is calling him back. He gets delayed, stuck in traffic on his way, and gets into a fender-bender that sets him back even more. By the time he reaches Na-jung’s house, all the lights are off and everyone is asleep. He sits out in his car, not even able to step foot inside.
Chilbongie tells Na-jung he has a few more days till he has to leave, so he’ll be back tomorrow to see her and Dad. She walks him down the corridor, and he smiles after her.
Chilbongie: Another reason why Fate is cruel and strong: timing you can’t predict. This is how Fate is cruel.
Na-jung walks him to the elevator to send him off, and the door slides open to reveal Garbage standing inside. Smiles fade and faces freeze all three ways.
Na-jung: Fate pushes me to the edge of a cliff, makes it so that I can’t budge, and in the end passes me the ball. In the end Fate is choosing. Now I just have to make a choice.
COMMENTS
Yes, you do. Please, for the love of Fate, make a choice and make it quick. I’m glad that the conclusion isn’t that she’s just going to leave it up to Fate to decide for her, because that would be the worst kind of deflating after waiting 21 episodes to find out the answer. Fate as timing, I can get behind, since after all love is just one of those things that lives or dies by timing. But in the end choice is what really matters.
I wonder what kept Oppa from going inside the house on New Year’s Eve—was being late worse than not showing up at all? Was it meaningless if he missed that window? Or was not going inside the damning choice, not the missed timing? Perhaps it won’t matter, as New Year’s Eve clearly isn’t all there is, and they still have to deal with the fallout of their relationship. It’s yet another thing that happened offscreen for this couple that drives me bonkers, but at least in this case the breakup was actually a fizzling out, and the feelings left over are the ones that matter, once they deal with them.
Oppa just has this horrible history with being late—late to show up, late to realize feelings, laaaaate to act on them. I hope he isn’t now doubling up on his problem by shooting himself in the foot and giving up because of lateness. That seems like the worst thing he could do. I dunno, Fate’s a bitch and all, but showing up seems far more important than being on time. Having a rival in Chilbongie lit a fire under his ass once before (er, sort of) so maybe seeing him with Na-jung now will get him to act. Who knows, maybe his whole character arc is in learning to actually get the timing right.
Chilbongie was hilarious in this episode with his blatant lies about driving just to spend time with Na-jung, and of course the show does its classic twist of taking something funny and making it meaningful when you see it under a different light. I still can’t believe he didn’t say a word when she spent an entire day driving him from Shincheon to Gangnam or was calling him stupid, but that’s just his style, and why he breaks hearts. My favorite thing is that he is actually still endearingly dumb regardless, just maybe a little less than he was letting on. Ha.
I loved Samcheonpo’s story in this episode, and his whole conversation with an incredulous Haitai and Na-jung cracked me up. But it’s great to see him step up, be consistent to his nebbishy worrywart character, and still make the proposal that hits the heart. Who needs a flashy ring when the person you love shows you he’s planning for his life to be with you?
And of course Dad tugs all the heartstrings, because he’s amazing and he’s Dad. Garbage’s place in the family was always the stuff that touched me the most at the start of the series, and I was sad about it falling to the background when he started dating Na-jung. It was nice to be reminded that his relationship to Mom and Dad can be mended and forgiven separately, as a son—that warmed my heart more than anything, because Dad doesn’t need him to marry Na-jung to love him as his child. It’s the best kind of I-just-love-you-for-being-you statement there is.

I loved the drivers license subplot and CB's little white lies. After his second time failing that, I had an inkling that he might lying. It's adorable how he's always concocting these schemes to spend time with NJ. U
Despite the cuteness, the show isn't leaving much room for the development of a CB-NJ ending. NJ is fresh off a broken engagement and failed long-distance relationship. She's only been back in Korea for a week or so and CB is leaving for America by February. I doubt she's eager to jump into another long-distance relationship (if she even is ready for a new relationship). She hasn't even spoken to Trash yet.
Speaking of Trash, why does everyone seem OK with his (probably self-imposed) exile. Everyone, including SCP the bigmouth, avoids talking about him. No one except NJ's parents and Binggrae seem desperate for him to come back. I mean, it's been a year since the "mutual" breakup but NJ is still cool with everyone while Trash isn't... What happened?! I demand flashbacks!
Anyway, I'm annoyed that a select group of people seem to be bashing NJ for daring to "consort" with CB instead of running to Trash as soon as she got to Korea. After so many episodes of NJ running after Trash, baring her soul to him, and being happy with absolutely nothing from him, it's good to see a reversal. I just wish it wasn't so angsty. I started tearing up before NJ's dad even said a word to Trash.
A Trash-NJ ending is still easier to plot at this point, but it'll be brutal. Trash-NJ thought the fact that they're perfect for each other would be enough. Getting back together after realizing that's not true is probably terrifying.

I just watched the episode and I have to say, it was a really good episode. I especially loved SCP and YJ's relationship, when she came at the get together despite saying no, my heart melted. and that proposal was the BEST thing ever! I Loved Loved the way he showed her that he was indeed serious about their relationship and was already planning for their wedding. AWWW.. That was the best non-official yet official proposal ever! SCP is such an adorable dork and YJ is a bickering, yet a loving girlfriend. and next favorite of mine was the oppa-appa scene. I could always see how much both the parents treasured trash, but it was refreshing to see appa spill his heart before oppa like that, and oppa was so apologetic the whole time. I also felt bad for him because it was more circumstances than anything else. sometimes, long distance relationships just don't work. and I now properly understood oppa's stance in those earlier episode in regards to dating NJ. He does love them alot and he understands that they see their own son in him. It was a tear jerking confrontation, but in the midst of all, the most beautiful moment was when appa gave him the red gloves. Sure, oppa doesn't know its significance, but appa does! He gave it to him because he considers oppa his son, therefore that glove certifies his place in the family regardless of his fall out with NJ. It was such a sweet gesture. and then those chilbong and NJ scenes were super adorable! LOL. Chilbong pretending that he failed that exam. Ahhh..He took all those remarks made by NJ of him being an idiot and dumb and didn't say a word! ahahaha..such a cute dork! God, I'm so glad to see chilbong back on the screen. and that car ride?! It was EPIC! ahahaha. I guess CB got his payback for lying. lol. But, despite everything, I was glad that he was there at the time NJ got the phone call, so he could get NJ to hospital right away. and this is where I applaud the writer for her incurring theme of timing, first it started with scp and yj's relationship and not that timing continues in Oppa-NJ-CB triangle. Timing does indeed give you the most amazing opportunities at times, yet you also miss those amazing opportunities because the very timing. I felt for oppa's misfortune in regards to timing, but then I was like this is almost realistic because oppa is a busy man, a surgeon who has almost no time to spare, even for sleep at times, so it's realistic that he misses all these opportunities at the hands of fate/circumstance. At times, I even feel that oppa is married to his work, I felt that especially in this episode. Realistically speaking, even if him and NJ get married, how is that going to work? because he really has no time to spare and NJ wouldn't be able to put up with that, especially the NJ of now. so, that makes me think they are almost incompatible and also fuels my thinking that maybe his doctor friend is the one he should end up with because atleast then they will both be in the hospital together and oppa wouldn't have to worry about leaving NJ for his work.
Though coming back to the CB and NJ scene, I loved CB's 2nd confession. I still can't believe he is so famous when he gets all tangled up while confessing to a girl like that. lol. His hands were shaking during it. I really feel CB's sincerity and I think NJ's heart has been slowly melting towards CB for a little while now, but we will see her full reaction to everything in the next episode I guess. I'm thinking...

... Other than that, at this point, I don't care that much about who she ends up with. Because I realized after watching this episode that I love all these characters way too much, so wherever their happiness lies and if they are happy with their choices in the end then I will be happy for them. So, even If I want chilbong as the husband (and CB has great chances of being the husband after this episode), I'm still okay with trash being the husband. If he beats his odd luck with timing and him and NJ can still make their relationship work then hey, I'm all for it. Let's see where the writer takes us in this ride.

Still on Chilbong's ship! I don't understand why people call him creepy, stalker-ish, or annoying just because he likes someone for years and things he does for loved ones. I find it rather cute and endearing that he still fights for Najung after all these years. Compared to oppa -who does nothing, executing actions after stimulus comes- i prefer this guy who takes initiative and not backing down even though the girl he likes most likely not liking him back. This guy puts lot of effort on Najung, because why? Because he thinks she's worth it. Let's sums it up :
1. When Oppa and Chilbong was given free time because an event cancelled suddenly, what did they do? Oppa chose to play billiards with his colleagues, while Chilbong chose to ride bus for hours, getting sick when tomorrow he has interview, and ride back home for hours, only to see the girl he loves for 3 hours.
2. For those who says that Chilbong is annoying and suffocating, when does he annoy Najung? Sure, Najung feels uncomfortable at times with him, but that's not because he's annoying. Presumably, it's because she couldn't reciprocate his feelings, though she's acknowledged and appreciate it. Remember when Najung sees her photo in Chilbong's cap? She simply puts it back in the cap, and let the cap be there, not bothered to hide it.
3. And, he didn't exactly disturb Najung and Oppa's relationship. He even gave them space, by never contacting them for years. Yet oppa feels intimidated and scared when he saw Chilbong in television.
4. And about his lie of haven't got license, i find it endearing though. You may think it's biased, but he just shows us how much he loves Najung, and still thinks Najung is worth it despite having unrequited love for years. And once again, i prefer Chilbong over Oppa, because of what? Both of them have distance with Najung, while she was working in Australia, Chilbong in Japan, and Oppa in Korea, why did Chilbong hold on to his love, while oppa eventually gave away, resulting in the break up?

I like your points here and tend to feel the same way. I wasn't sure about your last sentence, though. From the subtitles I read, both Oppa and NJ fell out, became dull, less of a priority for each other. It was not just Oppa. Their break up was mutual, it seemed to me.

Being in a long distance relationship and in a one sided love are two totally different situations. CB had no pressure or feelings of guilt/having to keep up expectations like NJ and Oppa did. With NJ and Oppa, a big part of their break up must have been the guilt and disappointment in not being able to always recieve each others' calls,msgs etc. All CB had to do was: like NJ in his heart. He never had to juggle liking her with his baseball games, whatever else he had going on in Japan. so the situations aren't comparable to declare CB being the better man. From how Oppa still keeps their couple mug on his desk and tried to make it to New Yr's, perhaps he let NJ be (while in Australia) because he didnt want her to feel pressured. It is in keeping with his character to put her first while he'a been suffering the whole 2.years as can be concluded from the various medicines on his table in all the scenes. CB on the other hand was often more about himself than NJ. I dont really get how people see him leaving NJ and going to Japan as some grand sacrifice.

I Loved This Episode.
The last few seemed like they had too much filler.
I'm firmly on the Trash ship. And I don't see how they could spend so much time showing us Trash-Najung romance and then suddenly switch to CB.
Even with the mystery yanking us around I really love this drama. So many lovable characters, hilarious yet touching moments.
I love Samcheonpo- Yoonjin. That scene where Najung and Haitai are trying to convince him to propose to YJ. "Should we just kill him?!!" I laughed until I cried. And then when YJ shows up at the Noraebang. I heard that they are making a CF together which just made my day.
And Dad is just so so good. That scene with Trash... They are both amazing actors. My husband told me that Sung Dong Il ISN'T from Cheollado. HOW can he be so good at Satoori?
The one thing that is dampening my enjoyment right now is I am really truly dreading the CB shippers reactions if Trash ends up the husband. I want to rewatch this drama later when I don't have this fanwar cloud hanging over me.

Lol. And I'm dreading trash shippers' reaction if CB ends up as the husband. I'm actually almost 99% sure CB is the husband, unless the writers decide to play on that 0.1% possibility and turn everything around, which is still possible. so, the pendulum can swing either way. But, I just hope people drop this shipping war by the end of it all, at the end of the drama, just take away the message and not the hatred for a certain character.

Thank you so much for the recap! I watched the episode but I like to read the recaps as well.
This week was very good for the drama, I liked both episodes but the highlights are definitely Samcheonpo's not proposal-proposal I envied YJ at that moment because that guy is a keeper, just saying. The other highlight was Dad's talk to Trash, wow! He is the best father ever for both series (AM 97, and AM 94) I think his worry was legit. Thank you so much for a wonderful drama writers. I know it feels that is dragging but I do like the fact that our characters are living "reality" of those time, like IMF.
I still thinking CB is the hubby :)

CHILBONG THE ABSOLUTE DORK IS BAAAACK~ He was so cute when he said "Na Jung-ah lets plaaay~" man he was MIA for so long I forgot that he was so adorkable...
Loved the Oppa-Appa scene.. How can anyone not be touched by that? Great acting from both sides.
Even though CB's comeback was sweet and seems like NJ finally saw a different light to him, I am still 100% convinced that NJ-Trash will be endgame. Her reaction when she saw him at the elevator says it all, not to mention the preview for the next episode(although previews can be very misleading). The next 2 episodes would perhaps tell how NJ-Trash work things out and rekindle their relationship, and then NJ telling CB that she chooses Trash over him. It's not like I hate Trash-NJ(i love them i swear) but please pretty pleaseee writer-nim, give CB a good ending that he deserves. They treated him badly these past few episodes so it should be given that they give him a good ending(if he doesn't end up with NJ).
Anyhow, I noticed something that's been bugging me for awhile. Why do I feel that Joon(NJ's bro) is nonexistent? Only when Mom said that she was going to Masan with Joon that I was reminded that NJ had a brother. He was not there in most of the scenes, during dinner time when everybody's there and even when NJ was going to go to Australia. It's disappointing because Mom's pregnancy was something big and even became one of the important conflicts that happened in the early episodes. It would have been awesome if we got to see how the boarders mingled with Joon, and we get to see him grow up or something. I'm not sure if it was intentional and the writing made it seem that way or not but I found that to be really disappointing. Perhaps it's just me but I don't know, it's just really weird for me.

Sung Dong Il ahjusshi... just reminded me of his cancer scare in AM 1997 when he was praying at the chapel and wishing to walk Shiwon down the aisle...
This scene just reminded me of his subtleness and the way he calmly delivered it and Jung Woo just crying his eyes out... oh man I can't. Can they 2 be in a movie or something?
I dunno if Chilbong could've picked a better time to confess again... its just again my thought of the writer having him conveniently there and now he is chasing time as he is going back to America... its like "confess now! or never!" But no, the timing shouldn't be worked that way... Because its seems he is always fast... it make it seems that Oppa is this perpetual tortoise in his steps.... sigh...
And I dunno if its storyline of Oppa being a doctor, there sure is lot of hospital scenes in this drama... I mean if unknowingly someone watch this might they thought this is a medical drama instead?
Samcheonpo... he could be a square but his type of proposal was the most sincere and genuine... and so sweet...
To have come this far, truly I am not sure if I am ready to have it end in the next 2 episodes...

I thought that this show has been meh for the last couple of episodes... and I was starting to feel disappointed with it, just like many people here.
But what can I do? This show gets my heart.
Samcheonpo & Yoonjin's story, that's amazing. It reminds me of the scene in 49 Days wher JIW's character shows his bank book.

Oppa-ya! that scene with Oppa and Sung Dong Il made me weep like a baby even though i had just woken up. Stellar acting from both Jung Woo and Sung Dong Il and downright one of my favorite scenes of the series.
I was happy to see the two dads still being friendly and close and found it really touching when they asked about each other's kids esp. when NJ's dad says "How's your 3rd son?" like it hurts him to say his name. sighhhh and Oppa just saying "sorry" over and over
I'm looking forward to the next episode mainly because I'm sure we will see the backstory of the breakup OR at least Najung's feelings since I think this episode made it obvious Oppa still wants to get back together. cruel fate! At the hospital too, although he was worried about NJ's dad, I personally saw his expression and his instant reaction to go out when Michael mentioned NJ signed the guardian form, as him wanting to catch NJ. When Michael said it was 2 hours ago, he deflated again and talked about fate. It kinda made me think maybe he's the one who made the final move to break up before-- it would explain why he is the one moving into action (but getting thwarted and then stalling) while NJ is trying to go about her life after returning to Korea as if she's fine and dory. If they just drifted apart then it doesn't match up with Najung's character at all to not give a damn about him after returning (even if it's not in a romantic way). Which is why I'm sure the writers are deliberately keeping those insights into Najung's feelings from us. However, her almost possessed eating scenes, i felt, were a subtle way of showing that she's not as okay as she seems.
Did anyone else catch how clean Oppa's desk is now? even the ashtray didn't have any cigarette butts. I thought it was a nice way to show how Oppa has been missing (and trying to cope without) NJ in his life.
Now onto Najung-CB. The only scene where i saw Najung show an interest in him that *could be* more than friendly was right at the end during the phonecall with mom. Up until that point, throughout all their scenes together, she was the same as always - unaffected by him as a male that she had feelings for. Even during the confession, her reaction seemed one of trepidation - like knowing he liked her but also knowing she didn't feel the same. But like I said, the final scenes and her voiceover do suggest that maybe she had an awakening of feelings. If that is real then I hope episodes 20 to 21 have some impact-ful scenes that will show their new bond. I am willing to be convinced, mostly because of Oppa♥. If NJ is not in the same mind/heart set as Oppa, i'd rather he be set free than being the one clinging to her. Oppa's pain in these past 2 episodes made me choke up and I just want him to be better and happy again. I have a feeling though, that a reveal of Najung's own personal pain, will have me rooting for them with the same force as before.
One of the scenes that stuck with me the most is when NJ's dad gave Oppa the red mittens. On the one hand - they are the family gloves so it could suggest he's going to be back to his position as "the son" BUT the mittens were made with the red yarn that used to appear only when NJ and Oppa were both in the living room and there's the folklore of "the red string of fate":

so i'm hoping for this interpretation to be true and that Oppa was destined to be Najung's husband and therefore also part of the family.
The fact that the writers pre-planned having the oppa gorilla/bear (?) and najung Seal right from the start makes it seem like they were the planned endgame. Shin PD has said that Dog Chilbong was not planned but just added to up the fun.
As for the preview.. I'm guessing Oppa may play noble idiot and let NJ go (for her sake thinking she wants to be with NJ. the way Jung Woo's eyes flickered over to YYS in that elevator scene was such detailed acting. i love him as an actor. sidenote: the peck during Najung-Oppa's first kiss scene at the hospital was also an adlib by Jung Woo :D)
But back to the preview, so maybe Oppa lets NJ go and maybe CB-NJ date, but she doesn't seem that happy in the preview so either way, I'm still confident NJ-Oppa is end game. But I want the writers to resolve it in a way that recaptures the NaRegi magic. If not then I will accept CB-NJ as long as they have some impactful scenes that shows they have a bond that is greater than CB's intense one-sided love. Because I don't want Oppa to be a second choice.
I think the only thing that will drive me nuts is if they play START during NJ-CB's scenes lol

You were wondering why Oppa didn't go into the house on New Year's Eve... at first, I was also wondering why, but when they showed a view of the house, the lights were out, meaning well.. everyone's sleeping first of all and it'd be rude to wake everyone up for some drinks. LOL. And second, it just means he was very, very late for that reunion.. It was supposed to happen the 31st, but seeing how the lights were all out, it would most likely mean that it was way past midnight and way past their meeting time. So yes, it's all about timing. Oppa keeps being late.

Not going to lie that I love these 2 episodes because Chilbongie is back! And of course, as usual, loving stories of our secondary characters too!!!
Disclaimer: I'm a Team Chilbong bias, hence my view and perspective will most likely slide more towards him.
It tugs my heart whenever i see snow scenes in the show. Najung and Chilbong just naturally come to my mind when there is snow. And the 2 years of New Year countdown. *Smile*
At the earlier episodes when the group suggested to have a gathering on 31 Dec 1999, given their personalities, I was sure that Najung and Chilbong will turn up. The rest of the gang ... I'm not so sure. And thought that if there is a scene where Najung and Chilbong will meet again, that day will be D Day. Nonetheless, when the mysterous Chilbong walked up the stairs, my heart just uncontrollably pumped harder. I so wish that I was right. And I squee when they smiled at each other.
And if Chilbong were to be the husband, I had also hoped that Najung and Oppa's relationship would die down before he reappeared. Their relationship wane off because of long distance is as realistically as possible for the drama. Realistically, being in a relationship, madly in love with each other somehow is just not enough. Commitment, compromise, trust, faith and communication are just as important.
Regarding Najung's feeling towards Chilbong. Najung probably never consider him as a potential when she was in love with Oppa - there wasn't any space in her heart then. She probably still just consider him as a good friend when they met again in 1999-2000. Then his confession. Unlike last time when there was no space, this 2nd time she is able to let it really sink in. Not forgetting her mom's words. Perhaps, this is a trigger point that make her question her feelings towards Chilbong.
I could buy this because that happened to me, well not exactly in the same scenario. I was so comfortable with a guy friend whom I thought I was just having a platonic friendship with. Until one day another friend asked if I ever consider him as a love interest since I was so close with him, and he had been very sweet to me. It just suddenly triggered me to see him in a different light, and question myself if subconsciously I had liked him differently or not.
I think the cliffhanger in Episode 19 is doing the shippers a good service so that at least we could enjoy our Xmas. It has come to Najung's choice. Whether to give Oppa and herself another chance, or to give Chilbongie and herself a chance. With Oppa, given their past experience, they will have a better understanding and hopefully better equiped in dealing with what might happen again (long distance relationship or weekend couples?). With Chilbongie, it will be a total new experience, but knowing his persistant character, he will give his damn best to make it work even if it's going to be long distance. One advantage Chilbongie has over Oppa is that his training and match schedules are more or less fixed, chances of missed calls would be much slimmer.
Oppa shippers can dream that Najung chose Oppa in the next episode, while I continue my hope with Chilbongie over Xmas.

Yes, I agree that it will be a flashback bonanza in the next two episodes if CB is the husband, and the lack of NJ's responses to CB's big moments with her is what's making us all nervous.
But, if NJ had no feelings whatsoever for CB, why did Yoon Jin want the remote when the sports news was playing on TV? If NJ had no special feelings, why would it be hard to see him on the news? YJ is her confidant, despite her nasty habit of dishing when inebriated; why did she panic to change the station? Wouldn't they all love to hear about their friend's latest achievement? NJ ultimately said it was ok-- she's not affected by it since it's in the past . . . hmmmmmmm.
NJ didn't seem awkward at all after the confession, etc. so what did that mean? Was it regret?
I like that CB always treated her as a lady, even when she was scarfing down the crab, or screaming at him in the car, or looking like a total wreck. The whole deal with the license was romantic, even with her teasing him about being a moron. It's like when he ordered 50 burgers just to see her and boost sales at her job--he got to spend time on the walk home with her, and impress her with his skills (even tho' she was oblivious and trying to get him to switch to basketball).
He always planned ahead to spend time with her in a way that seemed nonchalant so that she wouldn't feel burdened. But that being said, I'm nervous that there will be another switch and have her go back to Oppa (whom I just love as her brother). I'm hoping she can have the best relationship with both of them--and Oppa will be her Oppa brother. But the previews made me nervous. . .

Girl like brother-like guy. Bam! They date after a dozen episodes. Bam ! He proposes and she says yes. Bam ! She gets job n moves abroad . double bam ! They break up. Bam bam bam !!? That's me trying to figure out what happened . bam ! That's me getting hit by a bus.
Hmm I was little confused cuz last episode was little ambiguous. Maybe just for me. I din't think oppa n najung were the type who calls it quits over anything. They seemed to be of the stronger make.
After all the heartaches they made the breakup look like "meh..who cares?'
Anyway I'm jus Happy to see chilbongie. that goofy smile. His puppy eyes. And his abs..those abs ... * drool*..are like compensation received after the chilbongie-less episodes I sat through.

And I believe NJ had shown a little bit of awareness towards CB only that she still loved Trash at that time.
And I know that it's a different episode and I'm a total CB shipper, but when Na Jung broke the wedding, OMG I was crying like waterfalls! Totally broke my heart.

I am a Oppa-Najung shipper but not nearly as invested as many of the commentators here.
I think Oppa is end game because a CB ending would feel unearned plus, as many people have pointed out, Na-jung has never seen him in that light. Even if they force it with flashbacks it still would not feel right. Just my opinion.
As for their break-up I actually think drifting apart without talking about it makes sense for these two especially if they are endgame. Neither one would want to risk the relationship by talking about the gulf because how much they care about each other which would only increase the gulf between them. End result is that they cannot talk about anything anymore and drift apart.
And my second to last point, as much I would like netizens to not have a say in a writer's vision but they do and the overwhelming feeling here in Korea is pro-Garbage. I think people would riot if CB got Najung so that will, unfortunately, factor into the husband choice.
Now my last point, be careful what you wish for. I remember being annoyed with the 1997 husband hunt because the love triangle was not real. HA.

I think for the looks of where the show is going, that this will be my first time going down with the second lead ship.
It's a strange feeling because it's the first time having second lead syndrome, i guess i'm just used to entering a drama knowing exactly who the main lead is and because of that shipping that pair, but chilbongie is just so damn good, hot, cute, perfect and some more.

I was never bothered by CB white lies before, I too thought they were cute.
But not this episode.
CB had a lot of time to tell NJ the truth, instead he didn't, why? Because he didn't want to get caught and disappoint NJ for telling her a lie.
But then NJ got a call from her dad, in danger and needing a surgery right away, and CB let her go after taxis and when she could get any taxis, he struggled more about his feelings and finally told her he could drive.
I can't believe he didn't tell her right away he could drive and took her keys when they found out dad got into an accident, in a situation like this you don't think about you first but others, isn't NJ and father more important than his feelings and his image in front of NJ? Why he struggled when Father was in danger. That is why I didn't find it cute to be honest.

It wasn't that long of a wait though, hardly few seconds, it's because there was an intersaction of the other scene in the middle. He took the time for the news to process, even he was really worried and NJ kept calling for taxi in the middle! It's kind of a stretch to blame characters for their actions when in such emergency situation because they are under stressed circumstance and ultimately need more time to process some things, what's important is that after those few seconds of quick thinking, he did take NJ to hospital right away! I think it's petty to dwell on such little details because I could pull out hundred other details about other characters like that, these characters are essentially human characters, thus not perfect, but ultimately it's just their choices that we have to focus on!

It's sad how I enjoy Samcheonpo-Yoonjin couple more than the main couple (or triangle in this case). It's just frustrating. I still think that it's too late to turn the tables now to Chilbong's favor. I mean, we only have 2 episodes left and Najeong never showed even a slight (love) interest in Chilbong. She obviously loves him but only as a friend. I won't buy the "maybe we should be together coz that's our fate" excuse. Najeong and Oppa spent all those episodes being in love with each other. If she ends up with Chilbong anyway, what's the use of all those episodes building up NJ-Oppa's relationship? However, if she does end up with Oppa, I will really feel bad for Chilbong coz he's a really interesting character but the show just used him to make the viewers pity him and root for him. He deserves more than that. I just don't like it when the writers play with my emotions as if they think I'm stupid and that I would just go with anything they present me. Well, there's only 2 episodes left so I'll finish this drama for sure but for the record, there were lots of times when I felt like dropping it.

I'm curious here.
Why so many people here expect flashbacks with NJ and CB?
If they show us flashbacks with NJ feeling confused and interested on CB, I'll be disappointed on her character because this would mean she was two timing the guys, and accepted Trash proposal and almost got married to him when she was not sure about her own feelings and liked CB all this time? What logic is this?
I can accept NJ developing feelings in 1999, but not later because she never showed anything.
Why they always cut NJ and CB scenes before? To keep this damn mistery until the end.
Why on episode 19 they don't show NJ that bad about not having trash on her life and even thinking of CB as a good rebound partner ? Why NJ seems normal?
It can be:
- Because for the sake of mistery until the end they are making NJ feelings not known like they did with trash episodes ago.
-Because the truth is NJ is avoind Trash and her feelings, not letting anything show on the outside but she still loves trash a lot and can't deal with the break up/rejection/failed relationship.
Not many people noticed it but NJ was eating WAAY too much in this episode. Even dad said so. I think NJ is depressed and this she comforts herself by eating - all the time might I add.
CB in the preview seems to have the same ball he threw to NJ, when she went to watch his game. I think either NJ gave it back to him (meaning she rejected him) , or NJ did not accept it (rejection)
I believe in NJ and her feelings, she will stay true to her heart and even though timing wasn't the best for her and Trash, fate will bring them back together.
The red line of fate don't lie. They are tied by it.

just please accept my rebound in nj eating behavior
she is eating her fav food after back from foreign country who the food is totally different , indeed it is mom cooking/home cooking from go 2 years
if her guilty pleasure is eating, pr she depressed so eating waaay to much, it should be done in Australia scene than in home,
but the scene is only show her favorite food which is mom cooking at home,
and if i said , they eat ramen in ep 18 is because nj remember her feeling eating ramen with cb in earlier ep
you might think it because ramen easy to make, and it's snowy
so that is the logic

I will watch this once it is over and I have read all the recaps. I am not interested in who she ends up with because in 2013, everyone looks happy and I am very glad for them. Clearly, whatever happened in 2002, did not ruin the relationships they all had with each other and that is spoiler enough for me.
I kind of don't really care who ended up with who (who whom? My grammar is not that good)
Anyway, I know I will watch from where I left off because I want to laugh and I want to cry. I love Korean Dramas for what they make me feel - no matter how predictable everything is.

I am an Oppa shipper, but I'll be okay with CB if they convince me over the last two episodes that Najung loved him. What I am worried about is the last two episodes won't give enough time and it will feel like a cute trick rather than a good plot. Fingers crossed.

I am just so tired of this guessing game.. i wish they told us 5 episodes ago who the husband is.. i am a chilbongie fan but if they told me 5 episodes ago trash is the husband then i would have been sad for a bit then got over it and ENJOYED the drama.. now i'm just so nervous and keep on guessing constantly.. sometimes that takes the fun out of the drama.. aish…

It will look stupid if Na-jung will end-up with Chilbong. At episode 19, i am rooting with Chilbonggie as a man and not as husband-to-be for Na-Jung. And the last scene was like, they made Chilbonggie the bridge of these two lovers and i feel sad just like before Trash confessed about his feeling for Na-Jung. It's so unfair!
Still a good show for me because of the emotional attachment with family and friends. Still looking forward for the last 2 episodes.

I emotionally checked out of the whole "Who's the husband?" thing weeks ago lol. I feel like when it first started it was cute, and made the drama interesting. But after a while, it got annoying, and it felt as though the writers themselves didn't even know. Not to mention the "fan/team wars" got ridiculous...I'd be happy with whichever one she chooses.
I can't complain about the last two episodes though. The writers definitely have the drama moving along. They showed NJ finally worrying/thinking about the direction of her own life and doing what she wants, her relationship with Trash was finally tested...But now that i think about it, the end of their relationship felt kind of abrupt. I know time passed, but it was like the beginning, they didn't really get into the lovey-dovey beginning of the relationship. It was just like boom-6months into the relationship, boom- engaged, boom-breakup...it would have been nice to at least see the break up conversation..but that's just me.
Dad and Trash's scene had me in tears. It reminded me of the scene with Dad in Reply: 1997 when he's at the station with his uncle. I really appreciated it because they brushed over his reaction to them dating in the earlier episode. We just saw him act weird when he found out, then totally fine the next episode. The jumping around in this drama is poorly done. I understand what they're going for, but it makes some of the important scenes and moments in the drama seem trivial.
I did like what they did with the whole fate thing, and Trash always being late even though he doesn't mean to. May the odds ever be in the two men's favor!

It will look pathetic (not appropriate at all) if Na-jung will end-up with Chilbonggie and not to Trash Oppa. Basically, what Trash Oppa and NJ had was not just a boy and girl relationship but they are also friends and siblings, as NJ said they are "special couple". And it is evident, NJ heart is still with Trash Oppa, the more it breaks my heart for Chilbonggie.
At episode 19, i am still rooting with Chilbonggie but as a man and not as husband-to-be for Na-Jung (anymore). And the last scene was like, they made Chilbonggie the bridge of these two lovers and i feel (what!!!!) sad because it was just like before when Trash confessed about his feeling for Na-Jung. As I watch Korean drama's that are so conflicting in cultural values, I am very curious about one thing.
Culturally, when a couple 'dates' in Korea, are they 'dating' like in US or just kissing and hugging?
I have been curious about this because some dramas make kissing sound such a big deal and some dramas (rarely) make 'other stuff' as casual as it is in our country.
Culturally, is dating in Korea same as dating in US?
I originally come from a country where dating does not exist as a concept but romancing does. It is perfectly acceptable to have a 'boyfriend' but not really acceptable for it to go beyond hand holding and perhaps *gasp* kissing. French kiss, OMG.. Truly scandalous.
Kissing is scandalous and extremely intimate and all the other stuff has to lead to marriage.
Just curious - as a society - is Korea more US and Europe like or more conservative?

i am so happy to have puppy chilbong back... but show you lost me. still have my theory on who the husband is, but does that even matter when the show itself doesn't even know. like what a massive misstep on the whole writing, which is such an unfortunate thing. the show went for too much (or too little from the looks of it) with this overplayed mystery. pacing continues to be off and now that we have reached the end, it is showing. i hope for the sake of the viewers that the show explains itself, particularly like filling in the gaps (but i guess that is too much to ask for now). like how do we not see into critical scenes and yet we get weird and useless fillers...i dont understand. the actors should be praised for the work they have been putting into building their characters beyond the limited development they got. characters are not plot devices and i am resenting that is how they have been used. i still love the spirit of the show, but there are too many issues because i have more questions than answers. which is sad since this is the final installment in the series that i thought finally got it right. i cannot wait to see how it ends and not because i did not enjoy it, rather i just need to make sense of it. good or bad or just plain old wtf... looks like we are leaning to 'wtf'.
personally i felt that breakup was a natural progression for the couple given their circumstances. sometimes we think that we can beat the odds and that the love we have going isn't going to falter because we are special and we reinvented love, but that isn't always the case. it is not they didn't love each other, it is just that maybe their love was not strong in that place and time. it doesn't null and void their relationship, it just a circumstance of it. i think najung and oppa loved and still love each other, but the love they have now is different because they filled two years of silence with it. and what does that then mean for their future?
also, i think chilbong lying to spend time with najung is something that countless people have done. we have all been there when we have taken the long way to class to pass that person we liked's locker or would make up any excuse to talk to them such as asking them them what day it is. it is because sometimes love and relationships are formed on these clumsy fragments. and even if nothing comes from it, at least you felt something. it was cute and endearing, definitely something he would do. one thing i like about chilbong is that is honest and forward and their isn't any malice. when he knew he had to fess up about it when it came to dad, he did. and he explained why and it was done clearly. he is a good kid.
like can we have a moment for dad's scene or can say scenes because dad is slaying it. it was breath taking... like literally, i could not catch a breath because i was ugly crying. that is love right there and that is what makes this show so amazing writers. YOU SHOULD HAVE FOCUSED MORE ON THIS. man an hour and forty six minute episode or whatever... and i get a scene like this every 5 episode. what a waste.
it is interesting that everyone of the secondary characters have ended up with their first love except for the main triangle. definition of messy and interesting. either najung or chilbong will lose out on their first love. let's see.
yoo jin and samcheonpo 'not-so-proposal' is what life is made out of it. it is not about the extravagant and flashy displays of...

If NJ will end up with Trash Oppa, why the long 2 years gap before the wedding. If you went through such a period of separation, i would reckon Oppa would want to seal it once they are reconciled. I think it will be Chilbongie. He still has to complete his US contract and give time for the relationship with NJ to mature.
If you were NJ and you have split up with your first love and still remained basically the same in temperament, wouldn't you swoon over somebody who was just there waiting for you and making known his intentions at that?

I'm going to root for Chilbongie <3 Yes she never showed any feelings for him but this was like 2-3 years ago. And sometimes love is just like that. You get to know someone and doesnt feel anything and then BAM one day suddenly it totally hits you. And you are wondering, why the hell you fell in love if you had no feeling before.
Drifting apart is just the same. Najung and Oppa died even none of them wanted to. Of course when she sees him in the elevator, she looks like she has feelings for him because she still cares. And she may want to love him and feels really sorry to not love him anymore but she just cant and there is only friendship left.
Im excited for next week! ;D

yes, they seem to both like chilbong but from my perspective they've remained fairly neutral from the beginning. their recaps are fine and based on what the episode presents.
I honestly, don't know what points against Oppa you're talking about. and using "hate" to describe how the recappers feel about oppa is too much. I've read every recap these girls have done and I didn't get that feeling from them.
if you're talking about their "COMMENTS" under the "COMMENTS" section placed after that recap.... I don't see the need for them to not post their thoughts and opinions about the episodes or opinions since it is in fact written under the "COMMENT" section. it's up to their discretion as to whatever they want to write there.

I just really wish the writer had given Chilbongie a chance. She wrote him up as a fantastic, adorable character, and if what she wanted was this whole husband mystery, then she should at least given him a legitimate stake in Najung, for us to believe the love triangle at all.
I guess I'll just have to wait for Yoo Yeon Seok in his next role & hope that it's as spazz-tastic a character as Chilbongie is.

Wow, I never really read everyone's comments fully before, but now I can see why jb and gf are telling people to stop fighting over the CB-trash wars. Some of these comments are intense. You guys, let's face it. We won't know the husband until the last episode. So stop overanalyzing and being so critical. It makes the drama less enjoyable for you. Just go with. We all know that all of the 1994ers are going to be happy in the end, so don't worry. Enjoy the cute moments.

i may have enjoyed this show better if I stayed away from forums/comments sections.
the shipping wars have soured my viewing experience. (shame on me for getting affected)

and when did everyone get so critical about everything?
is this how good this show is? i can't believe how people state "this should happen because.." "no, that will be illogical cause...." we all have different views, different cultures, varying experiences as to love/friendship/family. and what we're going to see is the writer's own thinking.
