Prime Minister and I confirms Yoon-ah and Lee Beom-soo

Soooo… the Lee Beom-soo and Yoon-ah romantic pairing is happening. Yuuup. When the casting for the KBS drama Prime Minister and I was first announced as a possibility, it seemed so strange a match-up that I didn’t really think it would happen, but whaddaya know. Stranger things have happened in dramaland, I’m sure, even if I can’t think of any right now.

Prime Minister and I is a romantic comedy centering around the household of a prime minister with complete competence in the work sphere and zero competence in childcare. Lee Beom-soo plays the 40-year-old prime minister and single father of three whose household is in utter disarray, while Yoon-ah plays older than her years as a 28-year-old “mother who arrives in the house like a Christmas present,” and a love story unfolds between them. (The description says Yoon-ah’s a reporter, so I’m thinking she steps in to mother the children, but as they call her a young mother it’s unclear whether she has her own kids.) So in the story the age difference doesn’t seem too vast, though I don’t know how well that will translate when the real gap is 20 years and Yoon-ah’s just 23.

It sort of sounds like Prime Minister and I is the warm and fuzzy straight version of the employer-and-housekeeper romance, like Suspicious Housekeeper if it were played out the expected way (and if the suspicious housekeeper weren’t an uber-literal, robotic, and slightly creepy character, that is). In that sense it’s the less interesting version, but I can see how a straight-up heartwarming family drama mixed with funny romance has broader mainstream appeal.

Prime Minister and I will follow Mi-rae’s Choice on Mondays and Tuesdays and premieres in December.

Love Love Lee Bum Soo, but Yoona .sigh ! why ? cannot finish You are my Destiny because of her.. then gave a chance to Love Rain, gave up again. Cinderella man I did not even try .. She is no lead actress material, if second lead may be still bearable. Even for the love of LBS , i have to pass this one !Imagine if is Han Hyo Joo,wow it will be great news

The synopsis sounds a bit like The Sound Of Music with less children. Also since she's a reporter, I'm going to assume she's posing as a caretaker to get dirt on the PM? That could be interesting, although honestly nothing peaks my interest at the moment.

It is a strange pairing. I'm yet to be impressed by Yoona's acting - she always seemed so oddly restrained which is completely at odds with her actual personality - but maybe if this character is brighter and less down-on-her-luck like her former roles have been, she'll have a better handle on it. We'll see.

lee bum soo did have a romance with a relative younger actress kim ha neul in ON AIR but even so kim ha neul is not nearly as young as yoona...

but all i can say is that his chemistry with kim ha neul was off the hook in ON AIR. lee bum soo has the skill to pull off a romance with anyone...

sadly, like people have mentioned already, the SKILL gap between them is what is going to prevent me from watching this... lee bum soo is WAYYYY too up there compared to her to be able to watch her acting comfortably...

I really really love Yoona but I don't think she's fit for this role. Crossing my fingers though, hoping upon hope that she proves me wrong

If SM wants use dramas to promote their idols overseas(Japan, China) couldn't they stick to cable? No one overseas cares if a drama was on cable or a major network in Korea. Better yet they can buy/make their own cable network and keep busy doing all the shows they want there (and stay out of other network's dramas).
Seriously the Hallyu boom is pretty much over in Japan. I read an article that said that Kdrama sales in Japan are now about 40% of what it was during the Hallyu peak and it does not look like the numbers are going up anytime soon. That may be one of the reasons that idols with a loyal fanbase are being cast in dramas (Idol fans ARE a loyal bunch and are usually willing to dish out a lot of $$ to "support" so and so) but if Kdrama productions keep catering to idol fans and genuine acting talent is sacrificed as a result they are going to cheapen the image of Kdramas in the long run.

Which is cheap enough already. I agree. When an industry has more room for ratings and greed than for art, it will do everything to keep those ratings and money coming in.

Unless they realize better quality entertainment might seem like a bad move now, but will make them more money in the long-run and by keeping the hallyu alive, it's done for.

But business people are morons. They want gain and they want it stat. So the hallyu's survival and the increase of the industry's artistic quality is probably not even within their thoughts right now, regardless of what the artists themselves want.

Yep. Even ppl in Japan protested about the Hallyu a couple years back. In all honesty, with the Kdrama industry focusing on idols rather than quality, my anticipation for Kdrama has decreased. I've now focused on Korean movies. In addition, I've stopped listening to Kpop with the exception of Big Bang, Se7en, Tiger JK, Epik High, Younha, Urban Zapaka, and vocal groups such as Phantom (Love Sanchez's voice). Too much groups producing for Kidols that they're all about the looks rather than the music. It really takes away the definition of passion for music.

Hope I can watch this movie. not because of Yoona but Lee Beom Soo... I love his acting and I don't mind about age gap but Yoona is too young for this.

Lee Beom Soo has been in so many bad dramas lately. It's sad. "Giant" and "History of the Salaryman" are classics. I will always love him because of those two dramas.

Oh and YoonAH is in this?? That's low. *runs away*

Get it together Lee Beom Soo.
