Grandpas Over Flowers’ Actress Special heads to Croatia
by javabeans
News is out for the next season of Grandpas Over Flowers, which kicked off its run earlier this year by taking its four halbaes to France, and then to Taiwan. Now the tvN show has announced that the actress version has decided on Croatia as their destination. (The show doesn’t quite have a solid title yet; it’s being called the actress version of Grandpas Over Flowers, but that’s not quite applicable this time around, for obvious reasons. Its other working title is Backpacking Trip Round 2: Actress Special, which you can see lacks a certain punch.)
The actresses who’ve signed on are (going clockwise from upper left in the photo) Yoon Yeo-jung (Boomerang Family, Queen of the Classroom), Kim Ja-ok (Ojakkyo Brothers), Lee Mi-yeon (Merchant Kim Man-deok), and Kim Hee-ae (A Wife’s Credential). And, of course, we can’t forget Luggage Boy Lee Seung-gi, who is probably going to be nothing like Lee Seo-jin was in the first season but will hopefully be just as awesome to watch, given his hilariously heo-dang streak of messing things up at the last moment. Or sometimes in the first moment. He’s unpredictable that way.
Na PD stated that after traveling to Western Europe with the halbaes, he wanted to explore a different appeal by heading to Eastern Europe this time. With Croatia not being well-known to Korean audiences, he felt it would be a solid choice for the actresses with its “exotic flavor, beautiful natural scenery, and diverse cultural legacy.” It certainly isn’t an expected pick, and I’m curious to see how they’ll navigate. The choice also ups the ante for this round, considering that France and Switzerland were navigable in English, they had a luggage boy fluent in English, and one halbae even managed passable German on his own. And in Taiwan, they got by with English, a tech-savvy guest guide (Sunny), and their knowledge of hanja characters. Croatia, on the other hand… is throwing them all off the deep end. This oughtta be good.
The Actress Special of Grandpas Over Flowers will depart on their trip in early November. The show will then air later in the month.

hahaha. maybe that is another of Na PD schemes. He made seunggi believe they were going to Spain just to have him prepare and feel a little calm. But then in the last moment go sadistic again throw Seunggi off the road. And when Seunggi complains that he already learned basic Spanish, he'll just say "it's still in europe", "oh, you learned Spanish.. ahhh is that so, but I want to go to croatia.." and "the language, well you can check google..."...
hahahahaha. Na PD, i miss you!!!

it isn't really like that... I'm croatian, so trust me, you don't get fined for just anything... you can have bad experience anywhere you go, croatia is no different... we are actually quite flexible when it comes to foreign tourists... but it's always good to know someone local to ask for advice... :)

I'm Croatian Canadian - I had no idea that people in Croatia watch Korean soaps. I know about Mexican/Brazilian tele-novellas being very popular, and then later also Turkish ones, but Korean drama? Where are you from in Croatia. I live in Seoul.

the television is full of turkish soaps lately, and of course latin telenovelas also.... but there is this little wonderful invention called the Internet (thank god for it) and it introduced me to this unbelievable new world I never knew existed before... and I'm loving it... :)

Well, its certainly a country unknown to a lot of persons on our side. I mean, I know it exists and they beat my country in WC 1998 first stage (which made me bitter lol) but beyond that my knowledge is limited. This will make it lots more fun for us viewers. :D

OMFG, this is gonna be so much fun, I cannot wait! I always say "I cannot wait" for everything Seung-gi related, but for this one - I feel like sleeping off October and half of November so we can get there already!!
Croatia has such gorgeous locales. I've been there for our high-school grad trip and it was awesome! I was secretly hoping for Greece for some reason, but this one sounds just as good.
I think Seung-gi is so much different from Seo-jinnie, and that's what makes it fun I suppose. If we have the same personalities, it just makes it same content-different package. He already started researching on Spain, so that's down the drain. Now he's probably scrambling for Croatian guide books to get himself through this.
Seung-gi is seriously friendly and adorable though, so I'm sure he'll get along just fine with everyone. But his heodang-ness is what everyone's looking out for. He's gonna screw up big time LOL.

Ok, my very first post on this blog. I read Croatia and was like "hurray!" It's really beautiful. On the other hand, it is actually my neighbouring country so I'm a bit annoyed they won't come to where I live ;) . Not that I have the courage to meet any of them, but I guess it would help our tourism and economy a tiny bit :D .
If I am correct, people in Croatia learn English from the 5th grade in elementary school (or around that year), so the majority of younger people speak it enough to be of some help. That is, if anyone speaks understandable English, not Lee Min Ho Engrish. Which I believe Seung-gi does. I can't wait to see that show!
I wonder where they'll be going - to the islands or the land, to the sea or the mountains?

actually, children start learning croatian from the 1st grade, which means at the age of 7 (I would know, I teach English in elementary school in croatia). :D
I also wonder where they'll go... I live in the north which is really beautiful and hilly, but they'll probably go somewhere on the coast. :(

Same here, but integrated in regular subjects. As individual subject they have it from the 4th grade.
I also bet on the coast. More tourist facilities and great scenery ... plus nicer November weather.

Croatia is beautiful (believe me, I live here) ,but the weather here this days (even here on the coast)is like this: rain , cloudy , rain , rain and....waaaait for it......more rain. I really hope it changes for their sake (and mine). No surprise if they visit Dubrovnik or Plitvice, but the coast up north where I live is also beautiful (Istria is like a second Tuscany)

I've actually spoken to some korean tourists in croatia and they were all really surprised at how cheap it is compared to korea. to me, with my croatian salary, which is a bit above average, it doesn't seem that cheap. but, you, know, for someone with korean salary, spending it in croatia might seem like a good bargain. :)
