Time-slip drama Mi-rae’s Choice confirms leads

Upcoming KBS time-slip drama Mi-rae’s Choice (or Future Choice, since the heroine’s name means “future,” of course) has finally secured its cast. Yoon Eun-hye (I Miss You) has signed on to play the time-traveling heroine, Lee Dong-gun (Smile Again, Lovers in Paris) will be making his army comeback in his first drama in five years, and Jung Yong-hwa (You’ve Fallen For Me) gives him a run for his money as the other leg of the love triangle.

The new fall Monday-Tuesday drama comes from writer Hong Jin-ah of The King 2 Hearts and Beethoven Virus, and the PD of Crime Squad and Bad Love. It’ll be set in the world of television broadcasting, and stars Yoon Eun-hye as a writer (named Na Mi-rae) who travels back in time to meet her past self on purpose to set about on a different course in life. Where’s the Bad Idea Fairy when you need her?

Rift in space-time continuum notwithstanding, I do like the idea of Yoon Eun-hye playing two totally different versions of a character, which will be as much fun as you can have without being in a makjang where you play your own evil twin. The character is described as a bright and lovable type who spends her days chanting to herself, “I’m okay!” She works as a desk drone at a large company’s call center and just kind of scrapes by in life. But one day her future self appears in front of her and starts her down a path to pursue the things she really wanted in life. It’s painted as an uplifting success story, so I’m thinking there will be minimum supernatural mythology — just enough to get the gimmick going.

This will be Lee Dong-gun’s first drama since 2008’s When Night Comes, and he’ll be playing the broadcaster’s lead announcer, a man who can be prickly, but is also a highly principled and upright. Jung Yong-hwa plays a VJ who went to film school in the States. But he’s also got a double life, because he’s actually the grandson of the broadcast network’s CEO, and is basically pulling an undercover boss move by playing a lowly cameraman when he’s set to inherit the entire station. He’s described as a smooth operator who dreams of building a media conglomerate that does everything from film to TV.

On paper the setup sounds an awful lot like Nine, but I think we can expect a more heroine-centric success story that happens to use time travel, rather than a story that hinges on it. The writer is one in the plus column for me, and well, any day that Yoon Eun-hye signs up for a drama that doesn’t make me want to spork my eyes out is a good day indeed.

Mi-rae’s Choice follows Good Doctor and airs in October on KBS.

Isn't this basically Nine but with a female main character?

Yey! Finally something to look forward to. This is the first time in my short life as k-drama addict that I am NOT watching anything! I'm sooo looking forward to October!

Yoon Eun Hye is my most favourite actress and Jung Yong Hwa is part of my favourite band. So I would love to see them together in a drama. Well, I also liked Lee Dong Gun in Lovers in Paris, so he is the icing on what is already a very yummy cake.

I loved her in CP but her choices since then have sucked and this is coming from someone who LOVED i miss you lol. I can't wait to see this and hopefully she'll give into the character as opposed to trying to pretty it up every scene.

Hmm... the plot to me seems like something that I would like. And if JYH can step it up in his 2nd lead role, I can see myself liking this. I like YEH but haven't been too into her last few works. I just hope there's a good script for her here. LDG - I liked him too before, but I really haven't seen him in anything in forever. I skipped his last drama. So we'll see. But one thing is that YEH usually has great chemistry with her costars so, it'll be interesting to me to see how it plays out onscreen.

I totally agree. There have been so many mediocre dramas. No one wants to see the same tired formula anymore. If this is going to be just another melodrama people will pass on it and go straight to the competition. It's definitely high on my list because I love the leads, but it's going to have stiff competition from Choi Ji Woo in the remake of "Kaseifu no Mita" unless "The Good Doctor" has ratings so high it keeps people from watching that show. Don't think the remake of "Kaseifu no Mita" will be anywhere near as bold as the original, but it will definitely be different as far as K-dramas go and that alone could be good enough to create a buzz that makes people jump networks when "The Good Doctor" ends . And then there's Ha Ji Won's drama. "Future Choice" has a great lead in with "The Good Doctor" but the writer is really going to have to hook people BIG TIME so they don't jump ship.

Yes, because obviously the only reason anybody could dislike someone's acting is they're a hater or a bitch. Not because they have an actual unbiased opinion based on what they've seen of the person's acting.

For the record, I like YEH a lot, and I think she has a lot of charisma and talent. But calling someone who feels differently names is not only childish and rude, it's pointless on a site like this. You can't have any sort of discussion if your response is going to be, "What, you don't like my idol/bias? Hater! Bitch!" If you want to spread Korean culture (isn't that the cornerstone of Hallyu?), it's probably best to engage people with opposing viewpoints, not offend them, no?

Also, the idea that having many fans translates to actual talent is really dubious. I'm not one of those snobs who deride everything popular on principle, but I also think there were many movements/people/etc with many fans who were very overhyped.

I don't think think so, sometimes i don't like somebody acting but i'm not hate him/her, i just couldn't feel their emotion when they act but sometimes i still watch their drama if the story is good n the other cast is good so they could cover the weak acting

For yoon Eun Hye she's not the best actress but she's not bad too, Actually I miss her in good drama, I like Goong n My fair lady , Lie to me is interesting in the beginning but few end episode is predictable n kind of boring

This plot sounds so meh to me, which is surprising since the world of K2H was so colorful. Then again, the promotional stills/teasers weren't all that great for K2H either. But then it aired and i fell in love by the end of episode 1. Also, the director played a huuge part in all that.
I'm just going to hope that that would be the case with this show too, even if the director will be the one to make it or break it. (I looked up the PD and she's a woman! Why are they so rare in k-dramaland?)
I like the cast and i like the writer. Those are enough reasons to check out this show.

Aah LDG - the arrogant & bad boy (looks & character included) that I can't seem to hate. Welcome back! and teaming with YEH, the screen is already sizzling (at least in my imagination)...

Ugh and by that i mean they strongly resemble.

I'm still hoping for a YEH and Lee Dong-Wook Pairing.

Or a screwball comedy with YEH and Uhm-Force. But then again I am patiently waiting for her to guest on Running Man.

A romantic comedy with YEH and Uhm-Force would be nice.

Oh, and for some utterly selfish reasons I'd really really like to see YEH and Cha Tae Hyun!

Sigh....

Seems like a nice concept but I bet I can tell you what the story is going to turn out like in the end.

Young Mirae (call her YM to avoid confusion) is going to be liking the lead announcer and may even get to be with him in the future. Later on she will discover that the grandson liked her as well and was in truth an undercover boss. So now to get a better life she who has now become Future Mirae (now known as FM) will regret her decision for ignoring him etc and not getting the good life. So she will go in the past so that her YM will get to notice and like grandson, and tips on how to attract him.

Why can one not see the disaster before it actually happens :( if the guy ever finds out about this he will feel betrayed biig time. :) Plus not to mention that messing with time always seems to get back to you at some point. So even if you have the good life for the moment in the end KABOOM !!!!!

Lets see if I am proven wrong this time though.

Ugh... I hope you're wrong because if JYH gets a sizeable amount of screen time in this drama, I may end up screaming. What a shitty actor.

@JohnSmith
"Why can one not see the disaster before it actually happens?".

Some people can, but that's a God-given gift. Non-attachment to events is also a part of this gift. Usually they won't use it for their own benefit or for the benefit of somebody unqualified.

I personally dont get why ppl call yeh acting mediocire .. like seriously.. abide her choices i projects .. every role she has potrayed has got soo much depth n layers... she is one of those that i can say that knows hw to emote solely byher eyes..she can play as childish a character as goo eun chan and anequally equalified career woman as tbe one in Lie To Me. Also she was very good as a rich brat in My Fair Lady..though its not her fault that the story took a downrun..blame the writer..alsofor all IMiss You might have the worst writer but by gawd seungho n eun hye were the soul that kept it alive .. if werent for them.. nobody wud have watched it.. in conclusion. She is not the most paid actresse

so tired, Yeh's fans bragging about the highest paid actress-it's a shame compared to the standard of her acting. She asked for the price lol, and the producer is willing to pay because of Japanese market, not because of her talent.
