More stills and character posters for Master’s Sun

Here’s a whole slew of character posters and stills from the set of the new Hong sisters horror-romantic-comedy Master’s Sun. I like the look of the show so far — based on the teaser, it’s not just a supernatural premise, but actually going for a spooky and quirky gothic vibe. If it can manage to be funny on top of that (and I mean side-splitting hilarity, not mildly amusing romp, please) then I think we’re in for a good time.

Leads Gong Hyo-jin and So Ji-sub look like they’re having some fun with these costumes (though So Ji-sub’s all-red suit is dangerously veering into Santa-meets-gigolo territory). You’d think the CEO of a shopping mall kingdom would have better taste in clothes. In some of the stills Gong Hyo-jin looks like she IS the ghost, and not just the girl who sees them. I’m actually hoping that the scary parts of this show will really scare the daylights out of me, which frankly isn’t that hard since I’m a big scaredy cat. I just want some true spine-chilling summer horror.

The second leads are played by Seo In-gook, military-trained bodyguard (to the hero, ha) and Kim Yuri, who plays a model/singer and Gong Hyo-jin’s rival ever since high school. Her character is engaged to marry a soccer player (a nice nod to the starlet/athlete marriages that are all the rage these days), hence the wedding gown photos. But I’m guessing that doesn’t go so well, if she’s going to be the heroine’s rival in life AND love.

Master’s Sun follows current Wednesday-Thursday drama I Hear Your Voice. On the plus side, it’s a ratings hit and a genre match (or as close as a supernatural rom-com horror series is going to find in dramaland), so they couldn’t ask for a better lead-in. On the downside, that leaves the premiere date still up in the air, pending Voice’s possible extension, yet to be finalized.

So that puts the premiere of Master’s Sun in late July or early August, on SBS.

Well, from what I've seen or read, he was a bit chubby when he won Superstar K. And when he finally appeared in last year's "Reply 1997", he was already a bit buff. I think he's working out more since he's gonna be in that swimming movie with Lee Jong-seok.

I love the raspberry suit. We all know that CEOs like to show off but have an awful taste when it comes to clothes (tracksuits anyone?). It's also great to establish the contrast with the GHJ's character who probably will want to be unnoticed at first. I bet she'll get flamboyant at the end (that dress!).

As fun as these photos are, we still really don't know how this drama is really going to look when we watch it. The photos vibes and even the teasers we've seen are really sort of campy but the actually scenes seem fairly normal drama looking. That would probably work well, it's normal life with this underlying paranormal world thing going on versus going too campy or too horror or too melo/gothic.

That red pimp suit on Mr. Grim, oh my, all he needs is a hat and a cane.

Looking forward to GHJ and SIG in a drama again. I know he was in Rascal Sons, but I've not watched it, Too many episodes for me.

I'm hoping for a Haunted House ride with some dark humor. The Hong Sisters have been trying towards the dark humor before. If they bring in a house of mirrors with the whole thing, I'd like that too.

Whether it's fast humor sorta Mel Brooks style, or slow like The Heathers, I don't mind. Just bring in the funny.

Funny would be great. I'd like to see this show be it's own little world/alternate universe with wacky conversations and banter, did they really just say that, and important things said in throwaway humor banter.

I usually skip or try to not watch horror movie or drama since I live alone and plus im a scaredy cat..but so ji sub? Ermm.... I'm in the middle... I'm scared? Yes! But so ji sub?? Yes!!! I don't know.. I try to watch 1st ep first then I'll decide..if too scared so please dramabeans summarize the drama per episode like you always did (thanx for that)... and I will just read not wacth the drama..huhu..

I think I'll watch this. Haven't followed a drama in a long time, but this spiked up my curiosity. I do think that will be a good drama to watch for the summer. Some scifi stuff some comedy a batch of good actors. sounds like some good ingredients to a refreshing summer recipe.

I think I'mthe only one here who can't get connected with the lead actress :(
I gave her two chances on Pasta and Greatest Love, but as much as I pushed myself to finish the whole series, I couldn't get myself to like her.
Too bad, because I'm really curious of SJS doing a romcom.
Maybe three time's the charm?
