More additions to Medical Top Team
by girlfriday
Okay, so I was wrong about casting for this drama slowing down — what’re we, staffing a whole hospital for this show? We’ve got more additions to the cast of MBC’s fall Wednesday-Thursday drama Medical Top Team with Alex (Smile Donghae, Pasta) and Lee Hee-jin (Monstar, Best Love) signing on. I don’t think they’re on Team Genius (that’d be Kwon Sang-woo, Jung Ryeo-won, Joo Ji-hoon et al) but who knows, maybe it’s a hospital full of ’em. Only geniuses need apply.
The new medical drama from the writer of Brain and the PD of The Moon That Embraces the Sun is about a group of doctors who are each the best in his or her field, gathered together to form — you guessed it — the Top Team. Alex will join the staff as a doctor specializing in imaging, who also considers himself the right-hand man to Ahn Nae-sang’s Chief of Surgery. He’s a hit with patients, and is famous for his sweet bedside manner (which fits him to a tee), but he’s also extremely ambitious and competitive, so it sounds like he’ll be a source of strife for our leads.
Lee Hee-jin will play an experienced surgical nurse, who’s meticulous by nature and a perfectionist at her job. She doesn’t stand for mistakes, but that doesn’t mean she’s cold; she’s sociable and singlehandedly sways popular opinion around the hospital. She’ll develop a particularly compatible working relationship with Kwon Sang-woo, which sounds cute.
Medical Top Team premieres in October on MBC.

Lee Hee Jin reminds me of Rachel Leigh Cook, especially the characters on Monstar and She's All That respectively. Anyone else?
With such large casts here (and in Heirs) I worry that some of these will be little more than bit parts or cameos (or worse, exposition mouths).

But her character description does intrigue me (however Mary Sue it comes off). It's nice to see people who pursue excellence not cast as jerks/friendless/socially inept.

omg.. I thought the same thing too.. When I saw her at the greatest love, I thought she looks like asian version of Rachel Leigh Cook

In her prior "life", LHJ was a K-pop idol - being a member of Baby VOX w/ Yoon Eun-hye.
Nice to see LHJ making inroads re her acting career.

Carla from Scrubs. That was my first thought when I read the character description. Sounds EXACTLY like Carla. Is Sang Woo going to be Dr Cox? Then who is going to be Turk?
Geez-O. Get a grip and stop with all the Scrubs references already! Sorry guys.

Dear Lord! all casting news for Heirs and MTT have already become tiresome (at least for me). I know the writers are good but with so many characters it's gonna be a hell of a task and Little screen time for avery single one of them... whatever, I just hope the stories are good and make sense.
BTW, with so many drama geniuses, can't we get a drama parody with lame doctors? this is just a thought

But 'a parody with lame doctors' already describes most medical dramas. ;)

I actually don't mind the slew of medical dramas this time 'round... Waaaay better than last year, IMO n.n Although, okay, I admit, I DID watch Brain from last yea lol But couldn't even get through episode 1 of Third Ward and Golden Time =.= For this year's lineup of medical dramas though, it's probably all the different and fresh feeling (even though not all might be actually fresh faces to dramaland [a la Monstar] but can be considered the new generation veterans IMO) number of cast members and premises (A Good Doctor..... Squeeee!!! Can't. Wait.)

Golden Time wasn't too bad in the end. You have to remember they were supposed to be interns. They were badly supervised though. All that dithering about time was quite accurate. They made the characters too emotional as well. They behaved as if they were top of the class interns. But the inter- departmental fighting was real. It gets worse in real life.
However that blood exposure in every episode freaked me out. With the high incidence of Hep B carriers in Asians, all I could think of was even if they didn't infect themselves that was some stupid careless behavior.

I dropped Golden Time on ep 3. If that's how a hospital is run, then all the patient would have been dead. and those doctors? Every last one of 'em would have have some type of blood diseases the way they where handle things (Patients blood covered them from head to toe, It even got in the eyes -_- My gosh, I was in Horror just watching it. Me who is a medical student). I was looking forward to it, but what a let down that was.
But I am guilty of watching Third Ward and actually enjoying it. Sure the characters wasn't perfect, but they made damn sure that the patient was getting taken care of, even when there was a dispute in who was going to take care of them. I was also GLAD that my boy got the girl. "Sigh" I was so happy, you have no idea.

Golden Time was a hot mess of scary logic defying insanity. The actors were great, but as you covered, between the medical scenes as the administrative stuff, it was so, so bad.

Maybe during "2013 in review" we'll have to go by genre: best medical drama, ghost drama, etc.

Well, MBC has to do SOMETHING to counteract "Heirs" airing at the same timeframe as "MTT." "Heirs" can keep all the young puppies -- I'd much rather watch these seasoned not-kids on my television screen any day! :P
And now with Alex confirmed as a cast member? *swoon* THAT. IS. IT. I am SO recapping the hell out of this beast!!! *cracking knuckles*
Wheeeeee! Come on October!!!

There will be more so many more. The Orthopedics and general surgeons are not cast yet right? I wonder who it will be.
So far all we have are some thoracic surgeons, Internal medicine head, a radiologist and a resident. This is getting as hard to keep track as Heirs.

Since Heirs and MTT will be airing at the same time, I only hope I can find a site that will make them both available. (Are you listening DramaFever?)

ALEX!!!!~~♥ ♥
i'm so torn about this. On one hand, i really really hate the cliche of 'geniuses' over-running this drama. Why can't they have Eom Ki Joon reprise his character from Scent of a Woman in this drama? Now THERE was a Dr i could root for, all prickly-pear and cuddly-angry-puppy.
On the other hand, there's Alex. That's a big scale tipper......

The more I see it, the more I see CODE BLUE in it. Hmm...

Code Blue was propaganda to make Japanese people feel more secure about riding in Helicopters when injured. At least at the start... This doesn't seem to resemble that.

I am totally getting on broad with this drama now after seeing all these wonderful actors and actresses in its lineup. Hopefully this drama would be as good as Brain *fingerscross* I couldn't stand all those medical dramas that came out this year...
Speaking of MTT the plot gives me the vibe of Iryu Team Medical Dragon instead of Code Blue and man is Iryu Team Medical Dragon an awesome drama! Hopefully this drama will have some actual nitty gritty surgery scenes and not just filming the doctors in a surgery room

I am more excited about this drama than Good Doctor. I don't really know why though. Maybe because most of my favorite actors are in MTT lol.
Anyway, the only korean medical dramas I have watched was Third Ward and Brain. But I don't get why people disliked Third Ward. I liked it and thought that the whole idea of oriental hospital and western hospital forming a "Third Hospital" was grandiose.
But the end ... Curing cancer/brain tumor and all was a little bit too happy and unrealistic for me but I understood it as the gem of the Third Hospital.

I enjoyed Third Ward too as a light drama - it was a good concept but the writing/plot was not very tight.
Oh Ji Ho's character was somewhat serious in this show and I got to see for the first time Kim Min-Jung who played the female lead and she was very comical!

I will check out this drama due to Jung Ryeo-won who won me over in King of Dramas with her character Lee Go Eun!
Also - out of all the kid-idols - I find Choi Min Ho such a cutie!
Don't mind having to look at the male actors like Kwon Sang-woo and Alex - at least they will dress up the screen with eye candy in case their characters happen to suck (hopefully this is NOT the case!). Hope for GREAT acting and characters from them.
