Go Soo and Lee Yo-won’s mystery wedding in Empire of Gold

We’ve got two new Monday-Tuesday dramas rolling in tomorrow — Moon Geun-young’s Goddess of Fire at MBC, and Empire of Gold over at SBS. Both are pretty lengthy (Goddess is 32 episodes and Empire is 24) so they’re gonna have to bring their A-games to get me to tune in for the long haul. Here’s one attempt to draw viewers: Empire has released stills of its leads Go Soo and Lee Yo-won getting married, with the promise that there will be reversal upon reversal in order to find out what drove these two mortal enemies down the aisle.
I dunno, when dramas say “reversal,” they usually just mean “plot point.” The one thing that does intrigue me is that it looks like the unhappiest wedding known to man, with no guests or smiles to be seen anywhere. It makes me curious to know if this is a marriage of strategy more than anything.
It’s described as a secret wedding between Go Soo, the “commoner’s son” who had everything but money, and suffered great humiliation and scorn because of it; and Lee Yo-won, the “empire princess,” second daughter of the country’s biggest chaebol group who was born with a silver spoon in her mouth.
Go Soo’s character becomes a “drifting warrior” to claw his way to the top of a real estate empire, while the princess has to protect that very empire from outsiders because she’s going to inherit it. The drama promises a story with twists on twists to answer the question why one person who’s trying to steal what the other person is trying to protect… end up choosing to marry one another. I’m just gonna go out on a limb here and say it’s not love? Or am I not reversing the reversal enough times?
I’m curious about Empire pretty solely based on the creative team that was behind The Chaser, but I worry that the Chaebol Wars will be just that — chaebol wars and nothing else. Without the awesome daddy-daughter love/tragedy/revenge that drove The Chaser, it’s going to have to do something else to make me care.
Empire of Gold premieres this Monday July 1 on SBS.

Both new dramas leave me cold... I just don't feel them at all. There is Kim Bum on the other but even that is not enough to lure me.

I love Go Soo in whatever he has been in so far...this looks...sad, but I WILL watch.
Hey, you people who planned this "secret" "wedding," here's a free tip.
Don't dress your bride in a "wedding" dress, or your groom in a "wedding" suit. Don't have her carry a "wedding" bouquet or put them in a big ol "wedding" church withe "wedding" guests in attendance.
How about everyday clothes at the justice o' peace? Two trusted witnesses and you are set.

Every time when someone says that, I can't stop thinking about the two weddings of Game Of Thrones xD. This is what you call an unhappy wedding !
I know I am going to watch Goddess of Fire because of Moon Geun Young and Kwang Soo so I don't really know if I am going to check this drama although I'm a fan of Go Soo since RM's episodes. The drama looks like revenge and I don't really want to watch this kind of drama again. At least, for now, a fresh drama like Dating Agency Cyrano suits me so I guess I will pass except if it has really good reviews from you :)

Hah...am tryingto imagine a Red-style Wedding taking place in a k-drama.
After all these weeks, poor Baby Ned, Talissa, Robb and Catelyn.
Also poor Sansa.

It sucks for Sansa because he isn't the charming prince that she imagined but heck, he is way way better than the previous ones and one of the few good characters of the show lol.
But yeah, I was soooo shocked. Like I can totally understand the numerous reactions videos in Youtube LMAO.
I watched the two first episodes of Cruel Palace but I can't seem to finish it because I know it is going to be very hard whereas I ain't the fragile type and all because I do love hardcore stuffs but I don't know, I think I don't want a drama as depressing as it right now lol.

Also having something to watch on Mon/Tue will make the waiting for 'I hear your voice' less painful

Is such a wedding in church even necessary in Korea? What I understood from watching Kdrama you just register your marriage by yourself. So does someone need an official marriage?
In Germany you can marry at the civil registry office in front of a registrar. And additionally, if you want to, you can marry in church. But you need to do the one at the civil registry office first.

I always check out the first episodes on every show that premieres and if there's potential i keep watching. if it sucks, or it's not my cup of tea, i'm out.
I've only ever seen lee yo won in 49 days but does that woman ever look happy in any of her shows?
She does unhappy really well.

She was also unhappy (a lot) and sad in Bad Love. And I agree, she does unhappy really well. It was hard to watch her character in Bad Love however, because the lead (Kwon Sang-woo) really loved her and he was all about her. I wanted to pull my hair and slap some sense into her. She still got the guy in the end, but man was her character in that drama irritating (and so was KSW's a little, actually).

It's good she's unhappy here. This means she'll be happy really really soon. I notice the heroine that starts off happy generally becomes sadder and sadder as the show progresses.

Will promise to def try this because of Go Soo. Have loved his dramas Green Rose, Marrying a Millionaire, Will it Snow for Christmas, etc.
Basically watchin this just because of Go Soo and LYW. lol. But Go Soo is my ideal husband hahaha! The stills WHY IN THE WORLD are they so sad aww?
