Kim Hyun-joong quits City Conquest
by javabeans
javabeans: WHAT. Kim Hyun-joong is quitting City Conquest? Whoa. But… that… not… compute.
girlfriday: And yet, I’m more surprised that there’s a City Conquest still around for him to quit.
javabeans: First off, how the hell is that show not done filming yet?
girlfriday: I thought they stopped filming altogether.
javabeans: It’s just been languishing forever.
girlfriday: I don’t understand the order of events. Did he quit first, or did it fail yet again to get a slot and then he quit?
javabeans: I wonder if it’s a matter of it planning to resume filming “later,” and now there’s no later. I know KBS rejected it, but you’d think that a drama produced by an outside company would still chug along without a broadcaster, because if anything it could sell it later as long as there was a finished product to sell.
girlfriday: It’s been cropping up in the headlines every so often, trying to get a time slot somewhere, so it might be that they were shooting with hopes that next time they’d get one, and next time, and next time… and at some point, say when cable refuses to take you, you call it quits.
javabeans: Or you get innovative. Sell to Japan first, like Full House Take 2. Umm… okay maybe bad example. Or go online, or DVD, or something. But to just quit NOW, halfway through, leaving nothing to show for it?
girlfriday: Yeah this way it’s guaranteed zero return. I suppose if it’s an action drama though, it may have been too expensive to continue pouring money into a production that keeps getting rejected.
javabeans: I’m wondering how bad it must be that it couldn’t get anyone to buy it. Broadcast is understandable given the fierce competition, but there are so many cable stations. Not just the big ones like OCN and tvN, but there are tons of smaller offshoots, like SBS Plus and MBC Every1 and Dramanet.
girlfriday: Seriously. And it doesn’t even need to be all kinds of flashy to get a slot, even on the Big 3 anyway. We watch entire dramas with crap production values all the time.
javabeans: If Full House 2 could sell abroad, how in the world did a Kim Hyun-joong vehicle not sell to Japan, or China, or Taiwan?
girlfriday: The only answer is that the pilot sucks. Whatever it is that they’re shopping around at networks must be SO BAD that it trumps all that starpower money potential or something.
javabeans: And from the star’s standpoint, it must be bad enough that his commitment could wane. It’s his name on the line, so to give up on it? Eeek. (Apparently his management and producers are in the process of contract dissolution.)
girlfriday: Dude, can’t you just see him getting sued over this? That would suck. To put your name on something that doesn’t see the light of day and get screwed in the process?
javabeans: I don’t think he will, because reports are that Jung Yumi is also negotiating a contract exit. It could be that the project just took so long that they’re legally in the clear. I’m just speculating that, of course, but there’s usually a time clause in there.
girlfriday: Well she’s already onto a new drama, so there’s no going back for her.
javabeans: And he’s got his overseas tours to keep him busy.
girlfriday: Guess they’ll have to leave the city conquering to someone else.
javabeans: Buh-bye, City Conquest. I’d say we’ll miss ya, but you can’t miss what you never had.

i dont think that its lack of fans in korea i mean the reason why kbs reconsidered was because of the raging fans. so fan base wise the guy is still so strong locally and internationally. I mean despite their band not together they are still on one of the top 5 in daum and KHJ always get a number 1 on his comebacks.
But I think both sides has issues on kbs side we would never know but i guess cc was just too expensive so kbs maybe think that the risk would be too high considering the price of the dramas filming is. Its an action drama so with all the c4s , fights scenes and etc. Dang. I was waiting for this drama myself to air , i mean explosions , kicking ass and Kim hyun joong's hot sexy ass all wrapped in one is something id love to stick my eyes on!HAHAHHA

I thought this drama was gonna air in 2013. shocks* Im a big fan of kim hyun joong but i never finished any of his dramas before since the girls on it have the characters that are quite annoying! like geum jan di's overreaction and oh ha ni's out of this world stupidity. This was supposed to be the first drama of him that i will watch and now its gonna be discontinued. Well that is just heartbreaking.
I was with so much anticipation knowing he will be in this City Conquest thingy. I miss him in the tv screen like its been two years and his picture up top is just drool worthy. Always as it is. WTH have gone wrong in this whole thing. well Im sure hyun joong-ah will be sad but this is just a setback everyone will always have troubles but the guy is strong so he'll be fine. Charge to experience.

Wasn't Ad Genius LTB the drama that took the City Conquest time slot? Well its ratings are pretty damn bad. I still have to finish epi 2 so i can see why it's not really engaging but it's not the worst thing either. They have good actors but the story is just meh. So if one of the reasons they drop this drama was because they thought the other dramas in their lineup would be more bankable, they must be oh so disappointed lol

haha ..true that , cc would be more watch worthy than the dramas they replaced it with. well maybe the strategic planning in their station starts to lose if magic, if it has even any.

I need to put in my heart felt opinion. To me, Kim HJ is no other than just a pretty boy. There are still a huge room for his acting performance to improve. He make a good model though. Seriously, I get a little annoyed watching him in playful kiss. Just my opinion. Don't kill me, pls. I did went crazy for his role in BOF.

Got so super disappointed to learn that City Conquest was scrapped off. How we admired KHJ in his previous dramas. have even travelled to Seoul to see location spots of BOF. went as well to eat in one of KHJ's Jacksal Chicken House, though slightly disappointed when his mom declined to pose with us inside the resto. had enjoyed taking photos with his Plaque of Appreciation from Abiertas House in the Philippines, a beneficiary of KHJ's charitable acts and his attire and footwear in Breakdown album.
Will wait for his future TV dramas or movies.

I personally think it must be hard KHJ especially when he works so hard in everything he is giving to do .and also knowing that he dedicated but not finding a slot to take in his drama it does take a toll on you.and makes your schedule even more tigher if there is a deadline to meet..how is it that the producer's still don't even have. and ending I've been waiting for this drama city conquest to begin already I love him as an singer, dancer, actor we don't know what strain he is under but I pretty sure he is stress out tired and was giving all he had and if he quit well were in his place so he knows what he wants and what he he is doing plus he sure does' nt have problem in letting anyone know how he feels yup one thing he makes he get his point across so i've come to understand im still and will always be devoted in what he does .We love you KIM HYUN JOONG♥♥♡♡♥♥♡♡

Could it be that what the broadcasters were looking for this to be a Lee Min Ho, City Hunter type of drama? I was looking forward to seeing Kim Hyun Joong its been so long. Ah, well, next time.

I have been watching barefoot friends and he is freaking funny and for someone who is so naturally laid back and funny to play someone so staunch that does take some skill and he has pulled it off twice would love to see him in this kind of drama where he can show a different side to him have watched a few of his music videos where he get to get a little physical and he is not bad I think he has great potential if the right drama or movie comes along and as far a the comment of love rain it was a cute story and I liked it but by the time I get to see them they are normally over I think that we need to remember it takes a great director and also a good script to also make a show a success because if you have those two things even the worst actor cant screw it up just like a great actor cant make a bad director and a bad script into a good movie
