Jae Hee is secretly married and a father
by javabeans
And no, I don’t mean that in a drama way. News has come out that Jae Hee is in fact married with a young child, according to a women’s magazine article that seems to have caught the Jae Hee camp by surprise. The article states that he is living a married life though has yet to officially register the union and also has a hidden son.
On the 23rd, Jae Hee’s agency issued a statement in response, saying that because he doesn’t wish to cause trouble for his current drama May Queen, he is addressing the story and moving on so he can focus on his work. His rep confirmed that he is in fact married, but objected to the wording that suggested he was being secretive. Yes, but what fun is it for the tabloids if he’s just being a quiet family man instead of harboring a seedy double life?
The statement asserted that Jae Hee’s relationship is honorable (and registered), and that he did not disclose the news out of consideration for his wife, who is not a celebrity. “He is taken aback that it was reported before he announced it himself, but it is a situation he could confidently reveal.” (Meaning: nothing skeevy going on here, move along folks.) He apparently felt uncomfortable at the idea of his first post-army publicity being about his personal life rather than his work, which is why he chose to keep it quiet.
I’m more surprised that he could have gone this long being a husband and father without the press getting wind of it, but I suppose he’s not really a high-profile star. And since Jae Hee is a stage name (he began acting under his real name, Lee Hyun-kyun, then switched to Jae Hee early on), perhaps he managed to fly under the radar. Aw, but you do have to respect a guy who keeps his private life private and chooses not to turn it into a headline moment. At least not intentionally.

I didn't mean to say that it is a bad thing... so I suppose I should use the word "surprise" instead. It's just my brain-washed media mind calling it a "scandal" whenever a celebrity does something ordinary in their private life, but that comes as a surprise to audiences who may usually only see the celebrity as their role in dramas/ movies or some mysterious entity that comes with their status as a celebrity.

Smart move. Start a family early before getting under the spotlight.
Fans who really cares will understand.
It actually benefits them more since family's support is very important.

Having to live in a fish bowl has to be rather stinky. I applaud him for his concern for his family, which should always come first in my book. My hope, to borrow a line from someone else, is that he can live long and prosper, and his family is his sanctuary and strength.

I'm a bit new to dramaland...so I don't know who he is, but I do hope the press will let him be. Poor celebrities, can't they have a private life? So what if the guy is married and didn't shout it everywhere?
I am actually happy that he's married to a "normal" person and that they have a kid. I wish them happiness.
Thank you, javabeans, for giving us these news in a neutral tone, and not in a gossip-like way. That's why I love your dramabeans! :)

The old concept of actors/actresses getting married would lose popularity isn't true anymore. Married life helped them to stay out of troubles. Knowing that they have loved ones, they have better reasons to work hard.

He's the male lead in Kim Ki-duk's 3-Iron, in which he was just so awesome. That's like one of my favourite films ever and Jae Hee's character I equally adore, so I have a real soft spot for him.
As for the news: good for him - wish him and his family all the happiness the world and I hope the press leaves them in peace. They deserve privacy.

It's an independent, art house movie by the Korea director Kim Ki-duk - who usually makes quite controversial films. His most recent one, Pieta won the top prize at the Venice Film Festival and is Korea's submission to the Foreign Language Film oscar. Along with Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter...and Spring, 3-Iron is one of Kim Ki-duk's more reflective and gentle movies. There is still some violence, but very very little really.

Poor him! The guy lives a normal life, and yet someone had to turn people's attention to his family, just because it is his. I hope this is the end of this story - the news is out and the journalists/paparazzi will leave them alone, for lack of other 'scandalous' extras.
It's nothing wrong to want to be acknowleged for one's work and not for showing off one's private life. The second one is easier, but also very cheap in my opinion. I hope Jae Hee will continue protecting his privacy and that his agency won't make him go around showing cute baby pictures.

It amazes me how certain actions of the press and public can go scot-free under the disguise of the so-called "freedom of speech", "journalism", "free press" and whatnot. It really is no one's business except that of his immediate family and in-laws, if he is married with a child or not, if he registered his marriage and birth of his child or not. Why he has to explain himself to us, I can not begin to figure it out!!! (smh in wonder!)
I think we, the public, have to re-examine the imaginary boundaries we currently have on privacy and personal space, especially with celebrities - they are human beings with a life as well, just like us plain old people. The fact that they chose to be artistes does not give us the right to encroach on their privacy, just like anyone would get hell-raising-mad if their precious privacy/personal space is remotely perceived to be invaded.
I do not see news being given about the shoe repairer* around the corner who lives with a woman that is not his wife but has gazillion kids from said woman and others as well - what? he's not an actor/artiste/ celebrity/socialite, so it doesn't matter? The so called moral standard does not apply to him too?
Thanks for the opportunity to vent.
- end of rant -
*This is a complete figment of my imagination. Any resemblance to any person(s) alive or dead or yet to be born is totally not intended and purely coincidental. And even when coincidental, well, it's his life not mine, so, no worries.

I third the rant. I don't want to know what anybody does in their private life, really - the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker, Lee Min Ho, whatever - unless someone else is being harmed by it, I don't want to know about it and I don't think anyone else should, either.
Conversely, I don't think actors should take jobs if their personal life will affect their performance - for example, a spouse has forbidden them from doing any love scenes. It's a JOB. I don't want to know about their private life, which means I don't want to know about how they like to spend Sunday afternoons waltzing in their kitchen, and I also don't want to be thinking about their demands/inhibitions/political views when I am trying to lose myself in the story.

This is not really anyone's business but Jae Hee and his family's. I can see why he didn't want to announce it publicly after being released from the army since his wife isn't a celebrity and now he is just trying to protect her and his child from these false rumours.
Why can't the paparazzi and the public just leave celebs alone. I get that they live these fascinating and exciting lives, but they are also "normal" people who do mundane everyday errands too. I don't need (or want) to hear about celebs grocery shopping, going to the gym/salon, or what they ordered at Starbucks.
I'm glad Jae Hee is clearing up the rumours, but the press/public shouldn't chastise him for hiding his relationship. I'm glad he was able to keep his personal life private for so long. Hopefully the press will back off now since he's given his statement and just let him live his life peacefully.

Okay, I'll admit I had to Google Suri Cruise to figure out who she was. For the most part, I ignore the gossip magazines and I forget that they are loitering around like skunks in the lilac bushes.
Still, the massive American gossip industry, as near as I can tell from glancing at the tabloid front pages, focuses on a couple of dozen celebrities at a time. Middling stars like Jae Hee, with a few good TV and movie roles to their credits, have no problem disappearing into the vastness of the LA suburbs. No one much cares who they date and marry as long as it doesn't involve public debauchery or criminal activity. There isn't much that they can do that would amount to a career-ending scandal.

I am the only cynic visiting this blog. I am going to take off the rose-colored glasses for one second and say that celebrities minor or otherwise made a deal with the devil, Money and Fame in exchange for living in a fish bowl. in the west the fans owns the body, in the east they own the celebrity's body and soul, it is ridiculous how much influenceeastern fans exertson a celebrity's life. Sometimes, it is in the star's best interest to keep their personal life private. Privacy has nothing to do with it. If this story been about a " western " star, I would have bought the privacy line. " eastern" star, I do not buy it, I am sure that almost every asian reading this story does not buy it either. Sorry, just put the glasses back on..NO!, something still smells fishy, but then again, it is his business.

You're not the only one. But my inner cynic shows its teeth when she sees a couple's wedding pictures delivered to the press and reads some lame squeeks how happy someone is and how good they look together. Or when a starlet buys a fashionable pet to show it of via selcas.
But do you mean all Asian actors are supposed to give in to that idiocy that telling around about their personal lives is? I didn't quite get your idea. Do you mean Jae Hee kept quiet because he did something wrong? Or that he kept quiet not to confine himself and family in a fish bowl under Big Brother's surveillance?

The magazine tried to make it out as something dodgey with the whole him being secretive. At least have some common courtesy & tell him before hand that you'll be releasing the news of him being in a relationship/has a son then perhaps they could've gotten the exclusive from him - work hand in hand rather than throwing it out there.
